I ate here for the first time and saw reviews of slow service. This was not the case. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed, seated and waited on. We had shumai which was steamed and delicious. I got the seaweed salad and was pleased with the amount and taste. For my meal, I had a sweet potato and veggie roll. They added mango to it for me as well as it is normally avocado and cucumber. I enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service and would return in the future. My friend has the regular sashimi and was please with the selection. read more

Best sushi in the area, ridiculously fresh and worth every penny. Baby yellowtail with jalapeno was incomparable to any other place I've eaten sushi. I have been to Tokyo Sushi II quite a few times over the past year and I have been thoroughly impressed every time. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the wait staff is kind and responsive. The waitresses serve oshibori (a warm hand towel for cleaning your hands before eating) which is a nice touch! The sushi often takes a little longer to be served than other restaurants but is well worth the wait - it is consistently artfully prepared and delicious. I have yet to try something on the menu that I don't like and I try something new every time! The prices are also very reasonable. It's a shame that the restaurant doesn't seem to get much business. The location may deter would-be patrons as the shopping center is full of failed, long-closed businesses, but don't let that fool you! Tokyo Sushi II is by far the best sushi restaurant in the area. read more

Went here for my birthday a couple of days ago. Went in sat down and ordered. We were the only ones there and it took more than 20 mins to get our food for two out. We each ordered about three roll and the minute they came out with our food they asked us how we heard of them. We told them yelp and she said we should take pictures and just stood next to our table until we took the pictures. Then we began to eat and our waitress was just staring at us the entire time. It was a very uncomfortable and awkward situation. I will never go back there. (Not to mention the description of the sushi wasn't 100 correct. No mention of a sauce or seaweed powder. By far, my favorite sushi place! I came here every week for the past Summer and i will definitely miss this place. The fish is surprisingly fresh. If you want to go crazy with a roll, get the Tornado! its a meal in itself. The spicy tuna and salmon are good but the yellowtail was a bit too fishy than usual. I have been eating at Tokyo II for 13 years, and it gets better and better! I bring new people there and they say it is by far the best sushi they have ever had, beating NYC, Boston, Greenwich, etc. Sam is a true culinary artist and truly cares about the quality of fish and seafood he is serving, along with Wendy who gives the best service too. My family and I eat there about every week, and it never disappoints. They never have an off-day in quality and taste. IT is and has been my 2 young kids favorite food since they were 2 years old! Their favorites are Spicy Tuna Avocado Bowl, Miso soup, Salmon and avocado in soy paper roll, chicken fried rice, Tuna hand roll, live scallop, seaweed salad......are you hungry yet? Ok, it feels like there is a sushi place every five feet in southern ct. Most are decent, but few stand out. Tokyo II definitely stands out. Its not the location (kind of unassuming in small shopping plaza), and its not the inside or outside decor (pretty standard for a small sushi place). What stands out is the quality of food and the effort taken to present the food. Of course the fish is fresh. Lets face it, if you make your living of selling raw fish and its not fresh your not going to be in business long. The quality of the fish is what separates it and the cuts they give you are generous (for instance a salmon roll is mostly salmon, not rice), and they don't cut corners. I ordered spicy tuna and salmon (among many other rolls). Most places just mash the fish up mix it with a spicy mayo, and sprinkle in some panko crumbs and it just looks like a ball of food, but here there were nice chunks of fish so I could actually ID what I was eating. They had plenty of specialty rolls available, of which I tried several (if your a salmon lover like myself, I recommend the Alaska Beauty Roll). Some places throw so much stuff on one sushi roll it is impossible for the ingredients to stand out, but these were well balanced and the flavors worked together as intended. This is by far the best around and when I go for sushi (which I wish was more often but I can blow a mortgage payment in a sushi black out) I will be going here. read more

I come here 2 times already and the food was top notch every time. I am a little new to sushi so I started with some of their cheaper 4 - 8 dollar sushi rolls like the spiced tuna. Decent local sushi place. Prices are comparable to other Japanese restaurants nearby. I have visited twice, and both times, anything fried/tempura was quite good and crispy. They do value presentation, so the plating is a little nicer, with spots of sauces spread "artfully" on the plate. Atmosphere is casual - what one typically expects from such Japanese restaurants. Hands down best sushi I've eaten in my life. I have yet to find anything that tastes better then Tokyo II Sushi. It's just too good. The Samarai roll is fantastic and I could eat it every day of my life. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to eat the best sushi. I have been eating sushi for many years and I have been to many places but there is something special about Tokyo Sushi II. Once you've eaten Sushi here you'll realize there aren't any other places anywhere near here quite like this possibly anywhere for that matter the wait staff and Sushi chefs are all very friendly whether it's something as simple as fried rice or hardcore hardcore Sushi or or just a California roll no matter what it is everything I've tried has been absolutely Exquisite and out of this world the is one the atmosphere in Tokyo Sushi 2 helps you relieve a day's worth of stress and no matter how I feel when I walk in there I always feel incredible when when I walk out. I recommend some miso soup, Dana roll seaweed salad or a hot sakei but whatever you order I'm sure you'll love it. read more

I have been going to Tokyo II for 13 years now. Since day one I have had many get visits and the freshest fish around. Forget the all you can eat places. If you know anything about eating Japanese food it has more to do about the ambiance and the fact that you need to relax and enjoy it but most importantly the fish must be top notch and done right. I travel all over the country for work and honestly some of the best sushi has been on the West Coast, but there is no doubt that Sam takes pride in what he does when it comes to purchasing and preparing his fish. Best sushi ever! The service was great and the food was amazing. We had the rainbow roll, volcano roll, peanut avocado and the tornado roll. The rainbow roll was a decent size and delicious. The volcano roll was the best of the group we had, not too spicy and had a nice crunch. :) The peanut avocado was so so for me but others liked it at the table, it's basically a California roll with peanuts in them. The tornado is the large amount of sushi, 16 pieces to be exact. It had a nice spicy sauce over the mound of sushi. Besides the sushi being awesome the green salad was a good size and dressed with a nice serving size of ginger dressing. Overall this is the best sushi I have ever eaten and the service was good :) read more
