Definitely come during lunch because the quantities are gigantuous :D Ordered the sashimi lunch special (around $11) which came with salad, miso soup, rice, and 12 pieces of sashimi! Talk about a ton of food. Sashimi was fresh (but the slices were rather thin and not as fatty as a more expensive option), which is already saying a lot for a small sushi place in north haven, and while at the time the place was pretty empty, the service was excellent. Always makes the food fresh and the flavors are great! The lunch boxes are a golden egg, only like 12$ for steak or chicken teriyaki, a California roll (i always get sweet potato roll instead for 1$ only extra ) , fried shumai, soup or salad, egg rolls, and rice!!! get there before 3 and get the whole package for a sweet deal! Extensive menu with offerings I don't often see at sushi restaurants: white fish, squid, scallops. We started with the scallion pancakes and age tofu, both of which came out super hot and good. I ordered the yellowtail and jalapeño, spicy squid, and white tuna and cucumber rolls and my vegetarian ordered the California roll and seaweed roll. This was my first time trying sushi and other dishes. We ordered the New England Roll, Chicken Teryaki, Shrimp and Veg Tempura, Wasabi Shumai, Soft Shell Crab and Haru Maki. The Wasabi Shumai was good. The wrapper was mushy and fell apart. The sushi roll fell apart too when I picked it up. I've never seen anyones sushi fall apart. I know u r supposed to eat it in one bite to get all the flavors at once, so I tried to get it all in there while it fell apart. lol The Tempura wasn't what I expected. I thought Tempura was a light, fluffy batter. This was penco bread crumbs. I got a burst of oil in every bite​. That really disappointed me with the Crab. We love this place and get delivery from them quite often. Teriyaki bento boxes have a LOT of food, so just be prepared. Everything we've ordered from them has been consistently fantastic. They have this cool sushi sandwich thing which my husband loves. I get the salmon don, which is awesome. Tempura is fresh with a variety of veggies. Their sushi selection is very extensive, so if you like options this is a good place to try. Prices are very good for portions and quality. read more

I've been trying local sushi places with the hopes of finding a gem. Well this place is quite literally a diamond in the rough. The plaza it's in is barren and I wouldn't have given two thoughts to this place had my coworker not recommended it highly. The special roll menu topped out at 39 rolls if memory serves me correct. Each and every one sounding more and more delicious. My coworker put it perfectly - pick the rolls with the ingredients you'd eat and it's guaranteed to amaze and delight. My personal favorite was the volcano roll. Who knew panko crumbs could add such a phenomenal texture to sushi? Also to note - anything with deep fried in its description means it will arrive with the most perfect tempura crust you'll ever come across. My mind is blown and my stomach was filled to the brim. I make fun of my girlfriend when she eats sushi. "You know we discovered fire, right?" I purposefully time my remarks for that perfect moment when her mouth is full of raw fish. Because I don't fight fair. So, since I didn't get sushi, I decided to get the ugliest dish they had. Look at the pics. See that brown one? They call it Beef Don. I got it because every other entree I've ever had placed in front of me was a work of art. (See Charlotte P.'s pictures to see the sushi plates. Masterpieces.). Beef Don is tender beef and onions on a bed of rice; simple yet savory. As you can see, the worst looking dish still looks pretty damn good. The decor and service in Tokyo II is excellent as well. The wait staff is very attentive and they've succeeded at creating a very soothing environment. The miso soup is served with little ladles for spoons. For dessert I had Fried Tempura Ice cream which is hot, fried pastry wrapped around vanilla ice cream and dowsed with chocolate sauce. It's like getting your belly rubbed by an angel. At the end they give you fresh pineapple and orange slices. Yes. Five stars. read more

They have a wide variety of sushi and they also have tempura and noodle dishes on the menu as well. I like that they offer the option to make sushi with brown rice( not a lot of places provide that option). They are so much better than the other sushi place on Washington avenue. My friend brought me here about 10 years ago and I've been coming back ever since. I almost feel guilty that it took me this long to write a review. There is always a daily specials board with things like live scallops, Toro tuna, Some sort of special role, and something warm from the kitchen. Sam is a great sushi chef, and very friendly. His wife is always there taking great care of the customers and treating everybody like family. It's funny when you go to a restaurant so often you and watch their children grow. One of my favorite things to get there is a tornado roll, it's got to have at least a dozen pieces and one of the best things I've ever tasted. They have a large menu and everything is just as good as you expected to be. I recommend getting something off of the big white board, those are some of their best creations. I'd like to stop here at least twice a month. Even when I'm in a hurry you can call ahead and get take out or even stop in for a quick lunch. Their service is fast and efficient. Definitely an asset for Washington Avenue and a great place to get some great sushi or Japanese food. read more

Went here for lunch a few saturdays ago. Very quiet with the sushi bar and dining area fully open. Sat at the bar and immediately started ordering. The chef gave me a complimentary dish and everything was clean and amazing! Designs on the plate made with sauces showed attention to detail and a friendly environment really set the experience off. We visited this location last night, and thought it was decent, but not outstanding. The portions were large and the presentation was nice. The tea was good, and our servers were attentive enough to ensure we never ran out of it. The first items we ordered were the salmon skin salad and the clam soup, which my husband seemed to enjoy. The salmon skin salad was excellent: It was served in a crunchy, sizable heap of beautifully crisped salmon skin strips atop a bed of lightly dressed cucumber. The amount of dressing was perfect: just enough to coat the cucumber, but not so much as to collect in the dish and make the salmon skin less crispy, as we've experienced at other restaurants. We ordered two special maki, the Elf Roll and the Sako roll. The Elf Roll was ok - it had plenty of fresh, buttery-ripe avocado on top, but lost some points on the filling, which would have been better with more scallops and less panko. It also tasted a bit odd to me, like there may have been unfamiliar seasonings or something in the spicy mayo, which I didn't particularly care for. We'd ordered the Sako Roll since I was craving lobster salad. The menu decription mentioned that it was topped with lobster salad & crabmeat, but the topping seemed to be all kani... (if there was was any lobster salad, the amount was negligible.) The rest of our dinner was ordered as sashimi. We got the yellowtail, yellowtail belly, super white tuna (escolar), mackerel, salmon, king salmon, salmon belly, and toro. The escolar was tasty, and the yellowtail belly was fantastic: the cuts were delicious, fresh, and so luscious and rich that they practically melted in our mouths! The rest of the sashimi came in nice portions, but the flesh wasn't as firm/springy as I would have preferred, and most of the cuts had small rips where the layers had started to separate. (To be fair, we went at the end of the night, so our timing may have played a part in that.) read more

We stopped in on a Friday night and the place was packed. We sat at the sushi bar and spent a good 5 minutes just reading the specials on the whiteboard. Then we spent another 20 minutes watching Wheel of Fortune on the big-screen tv while the waitresses ran back and forth past us. Not a quick meal, for sure. We finally got our order in, and it took another 20 minutes or so to receive our sushi and fried rice. Both were acceptable. The fried rice kind of tasted like bacon grease but was otherwise not bad. The sushi... let's talk about the plate first. The art they do on each plate is amazing. and yummy. I love it. The sushi was kind of medium-quality (which is what I was expecting) but some pieces were chewy to the point of being inedible. Six pieces of sushi and a salmon roll were $18, but we really only got 4 pieces... definitely not worth that much $$. We probably won't return, but it wasn't terrible or poisonous. The waitresses are nice enough, but definitely on the slow side. The special rolls are definitely inventive, but you'll spend a fortune if you actually show up hungry. read more

But the business ethic at a time like now where there's a pandemic and so many small business restaurants closed down- you would want to entice customers into spending their money at your business, because you need the business of the people more now during this shut down than anything! Anyways, I've been ordering to support my local businesses about 2/week since the Covid shutdown. I've ordered here maybe 3x in 1 month. Always ordered the same thing, my husband orders 3 orders of the same thing (he's got an appetite!). I ordered shrimp AND VEGETABLES tempura dinner, I asked for sweet potato and broccoli only for the vegetables - where as they usually give 1 sweet potato,1 eggplant, 1 broccoli, 1 zucchini. So for asking them to just give me all broccoli and sweet potato, they charged me $2 extra! I asked them why and she said because I had a special instruction. I said how does that justify you charging me extra when it COMES with vegetable tempura ?!!! Then I said, you know what, with the all businesses closed right now, the restaurants that are still open are really trying to do their best to get customers to support them and order from them, and you want to charge me extra for something that already comes with the order that I'm just substituting for a different vegetable??! This will be the last time I support your business and have since moved on to support other local businesses that doesn't charge extra for ludicrous reasons during a desperate time. Stopped in here to try a new sushi place... first impression is clean and inviting. The wait staff is friendly and not hovering. I had the Kani Su salad and was hoping for a little more kick but still very tasty. Then come the #10 Spicy yellowtail roll. A bit of plain presentation but fresh and melt in your mouth. I also ordered the #18 spicy tuna crunch roll. Obviously I'm looking for a bit of a kick... it was delivered! You won't be disappointed with the quality of sushi here. Not a huge fan of Japanese food, so this was a pleasant surprise! I got the steak teriyaki, and my Boyfriend got the chicken teriyaki both were so tender and the sauce was delicious. The pork dumplings were out of this world I could have eaten 10,000 of them. Shrimp tempura was ok ... the tempura vegetables were better. Specifically the broccoli and onion. Very good sushi in North Haven run by a local family. When we went there on a weeknight, there were a lot of regulars that knew the kids and the staff. Service was great. Sushi was very fresh from what we ordered and the variety on the menu is great. So... Went back to Tokyo Sushi 2... And... This place is awesome!!! We came back for the Chaos Roll, a must have, the volcano roll, deep-fried sushi rice, tempura'd with crab, and tuna on top. It's one of the most ridiculous pieces of sushi I've ever had. We got lots and lots of saki! And shumai, the shumai was steamed, the wrapper fell apart in the mouth, and the flavor was perfect!!! They gave us some more Saki and fruit after eating. The waitresses are very friendly, and make sure you are happy. And the restaurant is nice and clean. I'd love to kiss whoever figured out that you could eat raw fish without dying. (If it's a hot chick I might even slip some tongue!) I mean imagine it, a line of people are testing different raw foods. The first person tries the raw chicken and dies, the next person tries the raw beef and gets violently ill. Now you're on the hook here for the raw fish and even after that you still give it a go. Bam, instant hit! That takes some cojones. I want to start by saying Tokyo II hands down has the best sushi in the area. The quality, taste and presentation of the food are by no means the reason why I'm giving four stars (4.75 if I could). The reason is their ambiance is a little hit or miss. Sometimes I go and it's freezing cold. Other times it's like a sauna. I have gone and it's been just fine, so don't be too scared away. For the most part though I take out and that is always five stars. Tokyo II has some of the best special rolls I've ever had. Crazy Yellowtail Roll blows me away. Spicy yellowtail crunch with banana, YES BANANA, deep fried with three kinds of sauce!! I just fell out of my chair. Mango Tuna roll - spicy tuna with asparagus on the inside, tuna and mango on the outside. You kiddin me?!?! When you get your sushi, pay close attention to the plates. As some of the pictures here show, the sushi chefs put significant detail into the presentation. Treescapes with birds are quite often pictured drawn on your sushi plate using the various special sauces they have. Very cool!! Prices are on par with any top sushi place I've ever been too and the taste and flavor is always consistent. If you're within 20 minutes of this place and aren't getting your sushi here, you need to be. Don't make me come after you. read more

Another one of those looks can be deceiving locations. GREAT sushi and the lunch box is very filling. Funny story though, if you see a salt shaker on the table, it isn't salt. For some strange reason, if you want sugar for your tea, they bring it out in a salt shaker! Every time I have been here it has been busy but the service has been quick. Pay attention to the designs and presentation on your plate, every time I have tried to take a picture, one of my dining companions messes it up before the photo. This is another sign of a business that takes pride in the product they serve. UPDATE by request: The Beef Negimaki lunch box is very good from the lunch box menu. If sushi is what you are looking for, the Spicy Tuna, Spicy California and the Peanut Avocado are some of the best I have ever had. I am very excited to write my first yelp! I recently downloaded this app and this was the first time I actually put it to the test. My boyfriend and I were in the mood for Sushi tonight so I decided to get on yelp and find a place based upon reviews and I am pleased to say the restaurant was everything I had hoped it would be. a little skeptical as the restaurant is in a relatively large shopping plaza, it did not disappoint. The place was not packed, but by no means empty, it was nice and quiet, would be good for a fist date because you could actually hold a conversation with out being drowned out by music. We started off with an extra large sapparo, an order of edamame's (perfectly salted and steamed) and pan fried vegetable dumplings. The vegetable dumplings we're flavorful and came with a side of teriyaki sauce which was a perfect compliment. Since this was my first yelp I had to try a variety of items from the menu, I also tried the clear soup which was good, not the best I have ever had but good. I could not pass up on e green salad either, I have the Ginger dressing so rarely that I could not pass it up, it was pretty much your standard japanese green salad. Now to the sushi, what we came for! We split the sante fe roll (highly recommend, it is a new favorite) and the spicy crunchy tuna roll (this one is hard to mess up, but it happens, no worries though it was perfect). Overall I give the sushi a five star review, for freshness, presentation, service and atmosphere. To top it all over I had to try the tempura vanilla ice cream...oh my....awesome. I will be back.
