I'm not really sure how to rate this so here goes. I went there for the first time yesterday to celebrate my birthday with the fam. It's a small place and decorated Japanese-style. It even has the room though it was occupied at the time. I ordered the Icy Roll because it doesn't have rice. In my party there was also orders of the Beef don, the sashimi dinner, John's roll and another one I can't remember. Overall the food is good, I very much enjoyed my Icy Roll. However the issue is with the wait. But they did compensate for the wait by providing us some edamame to munch on while we wait. If the food wasn't good I probably wouldn't have considered it again but there may be a possibility for another visit. read more

First things first...don't let the location throw you when you arrive at the restaurant. The chefs originally picked this location based on population density and area traffic and not aesthetics. The sushi here is incredible! Make sure to check the list of special rolls as you can't go wrong with any selection. I highly recommend the samurai roll as well as the dragon roll. My favorite sushi restaurant!! The fish is fresh and well prepared. We live in NYC and like this restaurant so much that it's now a routine to go after taking the train to New Haven when spending the weekend in Connecticut. We always order the sushi for 4 to split with 3 people. It's A LOT of sushi but we manage to finish it. Food is excellent, service a little slow, nice atmosphere. We ordered three rolls and the Japanese Fried Rice to share. The rice is to die for - light and and full of flavor. I would definitely come back again just for the rice. Two out of three rolls were good. We ordered the King Dragon Roll (if you like eel the way I do, definitely get this one), Rainbow Roll (can never go wrong with that one) and the Spicy Girl Roll, which we were told is one of the two most popular ones. The Spicy Girl Roll was not that great - too much fish almost, definitely too much on top. It needed something. And it wasn't even spicy. We enjoyed the other rolls though, as well as a kani salad and soups. I would give it 5 stars if the service wasn't so slow. Had high expectations but not quite the meal I was expecting. Although the food was "ehhh" the service and staff are great. Super courteous and attentive. The meal starts with warm wet towels and ends with watermelons! The 10% check in deal helps too. My family came for dinner and the food was average. We had the tempura udon, chicken teriyaki, a special roll and the sashimi deluxe. The udon was bland and tasted nothing like the Japanese udon I've had before. The chicken teriyaki and special roll were the better part of the meal - nicely flavored and the roll was generous with the fish and had light rice. The sashimi deluxe had a variety of sashimi pieces that were kind of thin and I didn't get the feeling that all the fish were fresh. But props for presentation. I've never had my sashimi presented on ice which was kind of neat. read more

Due to my job, I'm always out and eating on the go. When I usually have dinner here my tastebuds go crazy! This is the only place where I can tell a difference in the quality of the fish. When I lived in North Haven, I ordered take out at this place so many times with my girlfriend. This place has got to be my top choice for great quality sushi at a reasonable price. Even though I've moved, I'm going to still try to find reasons to come here for sushi even though my new hometown is not lacking in good sushi restaurants. The fish is fresh and high quality while the prices are good but the strongest point of this place is actually the rice in my opinion. To me, good sushi rice is often times more important the fish itself and this place has some of the best sushi rice in my opinion. Tokyo II's sushi rice is nice, sweet, and vinegary but it isn't overly so. Some other places are bland but packed together. This sushi rice is light, airy, and seasoned perfectly in my opinion. That only serves to elevate whatever fish is accompanied with it. If you're like me and like salmon or yellowtail nigiri sushi, I recommend get the salmon sushi dinner or the yellowtail sushi dinner (there's also a tuna one for you tuna lovers out there). They're a great value and that's what I normally order with an additional roll and it's plenty of food for the money. read more

This is a fine cusine when there was no covid, but this place is outstanding. They are very strong when resturaunts closed their Business, but they still take orders through uber, grubhub, and doordash. They also do Takeaways! I gotta admit, their steak bento box is very rich and delicious, I love their crunchy shrimp tempura, and After all, a Really nice friend of mine reccomened this place to me! Was told I was wrong and it was not incorrect multiple times (rudely). Offered to send a picture. Asked her if I should come in and show her and she muttered something and hung up. Went late around 9pm and the hostess was happy to seat me even though I could tell they were winding down for the night and closing soon. The waitress was very attentive and friendly and joked with me a little. I got the pink lady roll and the 2006 roll. The pink lady was good and ingredients were fresh. It didn't have the wow factor and reminded me other good sushi I've had in the past...nothing wrong with it just not standout sushi. The 2006 roll on the other hand...holy crud that was AMAZING! I can't get enough of this fantastic restaurant! I compare every Japanese restaurant to this one. For starters, the ambiance is perfect for nights out with a significant other, lunches with a group of friends or your family. When you are seated you are handed warm, moist wash clothes to wash your hands. I don't know what they put on them or wash them with but they always smell amazing and leave your hands smelling the same way. The food is always fantastic. I usually get sushi/sashimi and the plates are ALWAYS decorated with beautiful designs, I even had a perfect Hello Kitty once! If that isn't enough, they put a carrot on every meal, cut and twisted to look like a flower. Absolutely stunning! Their staff is fantastic, they always greet you with a smile, will explain anything you don't understand and if you go there enough, they take the time to learn your name. Terrible food. We ordered chirashi and tempura. Traditionally Chirashi comes in a bowl but this one came in a plate so it was very difficult to scoop up sushi rice with your chopsticks. The sashimi was lukewarm which speaks to the quality of the sushi. We also don't care for the fence prop they used in the plate because you never know if those ever get washed. The tempura was just nope good. The shrimp had more breading than shrimp. The first bite was all breading and the tempura was very greasy. The broccoli tempura was really mushy and great as well. We ended up leaving most of the food on the plate. We left very unsatisfied with our meals. read more
