The hibachi/teppanyaki experience left a lot to be desired. The fried rice...was not what any of us expected. No onion...no egg... no meat for flavor...very bland and basic. It was one step above plain ol' white rice. It didn't really taste like jasmine rice either. That could have been just a side effect of the lack of seasoning. The zucchini and onion portions were VERY small. The zucchini was in slivers. We were served slivers...no...seriously. It looked like someone had peeled some zucchini...and had served the peel and NOT the rest of the zucchini. So odd. Also...the guy cooking didn't talk to us at all. He didn't ask how we wanted our steak. He actually cooked the steak first...and then left it on the grill while cooking everything else. It went on the grill before the chicken. I've never seen that before. The server was very kind and attentive. The guy cooking wasn't talkative...but he seemed nice. It almost seemed like they didn't have a cool available and they grabbed the guy in the back and said..."Hurry! Get in there and cook for those people! I don't care if you don't know how...just do it!" He did the flaming onion thing...that was cute. It was a very small volcano though. Lol. It was three pieces of onion. I would give this place zero stars if I could. I went there with my husband and three kids and our meal portions were SO small. Literally HALF the amount you would get at any other Japanese restaurant, and our bill was 85 dollars. My jaw hit the floor. They rip you off on food and then take all your money. I really don't suggest going there.. I will NEVER go back there. My kids each got like 5 little pieces of chicken and like half a cup of rice... so sad. We were beyond disappointed. Lunch yaki meal is $7.50 and really good. If you don't want to drive to Osaka in Bristol for Japanese I think this is the best in Abingdon. Ps I ate here when they first started up and it's gotten a lot better since then in my opinion. read more

Our waiter was what I'm assuming was the owners 10 year old son. My wife and I got steak and scallops. Both were over cooked, the scallops were so thin it looked like they bought them and cut them in half. Kids enjoyed the chicken which was 1.99, but one daughter wanted just white rice which was 5.99 for a side of just rice. We finally got our bill and it was 94.00 regardless of the size of your party they automatically add a 20% tip. read more

This is the best Japanese food in town. My 22 month old loves the food here, unlike the others we have tried. We always order online and we haven't had to wait. Portions are enough for two meals. Service is great and staff are very friendly. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

The Cheese burger is sooooo good. You have to try their hot dogs and mozzarella sticks. The pizza with pineapple is sooooooooooooo good.

First off, let me say that I rarely complain about restaurants or my meals. I have worked in food service in the past, so I know how difficult of a job it can be. Also, I used to love Tokyo! I have only eaten inside the restaurant a couple times, but my husband and I used to get take out from there quite frequently. Reasonable prices, good food, and nice staff... what more could you ask for? I decided to place an order there last night after work. The lady I spoke with had very terrible English and could barely understand me as well, was somewhat rude and actually hung up on me as I was placing my order. I was pretty confused, but soon after received a call back from the restaurant apologizing and asking me to repeat my order. When I picked it up, everyone was nice and the transaction went smoothly... I hopped in my car and drove my 20 minute commute home, pretty excited to prop my feet up and enjoy some yummy sesame chicken. I opened my box up to find a USED BAND-AID in my carrots! I was appalled! I promptly took not only my meal but by husband's meal back to Tokyo and demanded a refund. They didn't quite grasp why I was so upset and even laughed about it. Sorry, but I see NOTHING funny about a nasty, possibly diseased ridden Band-Aid contaminating my food! They have definitely lost two customers over this! I don't think I will have the stomach to ever attempt to eat there again, and it breaks my heart! read more

I am an ex employee of this restaurant. And I shouldn't even give this place one star. I'm not just saying this because I was an employee. As a former customer, the place was absolutely disgusting. They never clean. The grills are never cleaned, the floor is RARELY swept. And the do not clean off the tables. I have found multiple roaches in the establishment. When I was employed, I would clean the tea urns. Then one day I came back after being off for 3 days and found roaches inside of the tea. And they never clean the tea urns. Which means that they has been serving tea for 3 days with roaches in it. I would suggest that if you are looking for quality, good service, and an amazing/beautiful atmosphere, I would say go to Osaka's in Bristol, Kobe's Japanese Steakhouse in Bristol, Sakura Japanese Steakhouse Bristol, or Yamato Japanese Steakhouse in Johnson City. read more

My husband and I had been here before and not bad so had taste for japenese and decided to go here,walked in at 5:30 pm and was shocked no other customers was there so we ordered and started off with dirty silverware that lays out on table uncovered then get our food and portions was very small compared to last visit for the price, waitress never checked to see if we needed anything and sat at a table near us eating and on her cell phone entire time then ask for check and of course tip is added in bill which is fine but if u have to pay tips then u should get service without asking!!! read more

As there is a limited number of sit down restaurants in this area, it was a pleasant surprise to find a Japanese restaurant. Myself and 3 work associates had dinner of hibachi steak, chicken and shrimp. The routine is the same as at other Japanese type restaurants, appetizer soup, salad and then the entree'. Here they serve zucchini rather than sweet carrots which was fine. The fare was fine, not great but not bad either. As we got ready to leave, and was presented with the ticket, a gratuity had already been added to the ticket upon questioning what must have been one of the owners, I was told that's the way they do it even though we were a party of 4. I told them that I preferred to figure my own gratuities but it didn't seem to make a difference with the person at the registered. The $10 tip was there to stay no matter what. It's not that I mind tipping, and I'm usually at or above the 15-18% that's normal. I just don't like having them decide how much I'm going to tip. So, just beware that there will be an extra hidden cost if you decide to eat there. read more

I give this restaurant only 1 star for the poor customer service. I always call my orders in for pickup on my way home from work. When the lady answers and takes my order the order is correct. The last 2 times I called the man took my order and it was incomplete both times. I am very clear on the phone when I order. The first time it happened I didn't say anything about it and waited patiently for the rest of order to be cooked. There was no apology that it happened either. Second time I was even more clear in placing my order and repeated it 4 times to the man slowly. I get there to pick it up and again it was incomplete. When I told him it wasn't all that I ordered & this was the 2nd time this happened all he did was write on a box and throw it over to grill for me to wait on it again. I told him I repeated my order to him 4 times to make it clear and it was still incorrect and I did not want the rest of the order. No apology, no discount nothing. Poor communication and poor customer service makes this place lose my business. read more
