I try to avoid chains as much as possible and support local when I'm able to, but when I get a coupon in my email for a free meal, I will ALWAYS get that offer fulfilled before it expires! Such was my free half-birthday entree offer that needed to be used within seven days. Tokyo Joe's is one of my favorite places to go for fast and healthy. Their sushi rolls and poke bowls have been my regular orders and I love how easily customizable all of their bowls are! My standard order (one day maybe I'll branch out, but you all know me by now...) is their ahi tuna poke bowl with brown rice, topped with avocado, edamame, crispy onions and jalapenos and crushed macadamia nuts (and don't forget the lemon slice, it really brightens up the dish). Warm and hearty while still being light and healthy, the fresh tuna and perfectly ripe avocado chunks compliment each other, crispy fried onions and jalapenos give a little zing of heat and the macadamia nuts and edamame beans basically melt in your mouth like butter. The traditional sauce included is slightly sweet and pulls everything together, just like a good rug really ties the room together. #TheBigLebowski During times of COVID, their menu is a little more limited, so check online before you go in with a specific dish in mind! We sat outside on the patio where every other table was closed off, and they had bright "sanitized" and "dirty, needs to be sanitized" signs on each table. They brought out our dishes in to-go containers, which I appreciated because I can NEVER finish an entire bowl in one go. I still plan on supporting local as much as possible, but this is a great go-to when I'm in a hurry and want to feel good about my nutritional intake! read more

The food was beyond disgusting. The banh mi bowl had a raw, uncooked egg on top and the chicken was mostly raw and undercooked. The lettuce had dirt spots and did not appear to have been washed. The portions were extremely small and the entire dish was cold, including the rice. I will not eat raw and uncooked food as this is the perfect recipe for food poisoning. To top it off it took more than 30 minutes to be served. I do NOT recommend eating here and I will never be back. read more

The only reason I came to Tokyo joes was because I wanted sushi and I only had Apple Pay at the moment. But I plan to never ever come here again. How is their California roll a popular item? I went to Tokyo Joes for dinner at 7 o'clock on 11/24/19. I received good service ordering my food and I didn't have to wait very long. I took my order to-go and attempted to eat my Joe's pad thai when I got home. To my surprise, half my 'chicken' was large lumps of rubbery chicken fat. In my photo, I set the multiple lumps of fat to the side (left) and set the real chicken (right) beside it to show the comparison. Disappointed and unsatisfied with the poor execution of the Joe's Pad Thai dish. On a Sunday night when I'm trying to come home to a hot dinner... instead I got half a dish of rubbery seasoned chicken fat. Very unappetizing. read more

Great service and nice selection of bowls and poke. I opted for a surf turf bowl based on their recommendation (it's not on the menu). It's great to have both beef and shrimp. I found the ingredients fresh and looked very appetizing. That sauce..... whatever they're doing, it needs to change. I would improve their teriyaki sauce - it's way too sweet. I know they strive to make things right but my hubby said he'd eat it. Not because he didn't find it sweet as well, but he dislikes complaining. read more

I first went to a Tokyo Joes in Denver and while that was a very long time ago I couldn't recall what I thought about it. Years later Fort Collins finally gets a Tokyo Joes and I was eager to go to give it another try. It all started coming back to me. I remembered that their rice bowls seem good and fresh. The veggies were the highlight for me with my bowl since they were steamed and still had a crunch to them. I liked my chicken teriyaki bowl.:-) Like any new eating place that opens in town it is often crowded especially during lunch hour and it may be a challenge to find a place to sit. Once the newness wears off though it should be more manageable. read more

I don't understand why they changed the menu so much? No ramen, no surf and turf bowl, no MUSHROOMS!? Who is making these decisions and why? I've tried it 3-4 times since all the changes, and I just can't get into it. I was a once a week patron, and now I'll look elsewhere for quick Japanese. Good place for some basic Asian bowls. Nothing too fancy or any items that really stand out, but quality is consistent so you know you can't go wrong. They have a good spread of different sauces to put on your bowl. The yakatori is my favorite, green curry is a close second. Lots of veggie options as well. You can build your own bowl or choose from some signature bowls. They also have sushi options. Service is quick, restaurant is clean (although I usually get to-go). Never had a problem with the staff, but never had an experience that exceeded expectations. They have a nice relaxed feel in the eating area if you do stay. Usually not too many people eating in so it is also pretty quiet. read more

I needed something quick and healthy and Toyko Joe's fit the bill in addition to being less than five minutes away. I ordered the grilled tofu and veggie brown rice bowl with the green curry sauce. I was looking for a non soy sauce based sauce and the staff were uber helpful and really nice about my admittedly odd request in an Asian restaurant. My bowl was tasty, filling and healthy. All good standards for a successful meal. Authentic Japanese? Probably not so much. But it is a quick and tasty take on Japanese cuisine. read more

The tea options are on point and sitting on one of the 2 patios is a great way to enjoy a meal on a nice day. I love Tokyo Joe's and have historically visited this restaurant A LOT! I came in today for the first time since my 7 month old baby has been eating and asked for a very small side of rice while I waited for my food so he could be done eating when I was served my food. The girl at the counter wanted to charge me $2.50 for a side of rice for a 7 month old to start with. I would NEVER pay that, so said I would pass. I cannot imagine any child size side of rice costing $2.50. Then, to add insult to injury, she brought out my dish with one of the dragon sauces already on it. I had already told her I would feed him from my food. I had my food remade, but I am seriously annoyed about this horrible experience. I have never had a bad experience at Tokyo Joe's, but maybe that's because I've never had an infant with me that was hungry. The food was good, as usual, but that does not make up for the bad experience. read more

This is probably the best affordable option in town for Asian fusion food, hands down. I haven't tried the sushi here but I have enjoyed dining in and takeout from this location. The last time I got an ahi tuna bowl, I was a bit disappointed with the portion of tuna given and how thinly they were sliced, but overall it wouldn't stop me from coming back here. The rice didn't seem like sushi rice which was odd.. my partner got a salmon bowl which was less cooked than we'd normally prefer, but mainly it just had no flavor and again, strange rice.. This place overall was pretty great. It was clean and had friendly service. The tofu is actually super tasty. I got the bento box with tofu teriyaki, edamame, white rice, and California roll. Future reference, i wouldn't get the California roll. It had a funny texture and tasted like walmart sushi. That being said, everything else was great. read more

I eat out often and this place is super kind to my 70year old veteran father. Patient. Kind. Remember his order. The manager kicks ass. Some people have a cult-like love for certain fast-causal restaurants. They rave about them so much, you'd think they made unicorn hamburger patties sprinkled with bits of sparkly rainbows and magical marshmallows. They hype is so thick, I'm often left wondering how much of the Kool-Aid they drank before eating there. In-N-Out is the most obvious example of this situation. I ate there, and it was fine enough, but not so much that it was worthy of shouting accolades from the mountain tops. So, when Tokyo Joe's made their way to Fort Collins, I was feeling that hype hysteria kick up again. We ate there when we lived in Denver - and it was great - but I wasn't doing cartwheels down the street upon hearing the news about the expansion to Fort Collins. It was more of a "Eh, that's cool," kind of response. It took a few visits as a restaurant critic to really appreciate Tokyo Joe's for what they are. In a city full of restaurant options, and not a whole lot of great fast-casual ones, Tokyo Joe's brings a healthy, more upscale version of fast-casual dining to the Choice City. I'm not doing cartwheels, but I'm certainly giving them the thumbs up. read more

You will not like this place. Minuscule "veggies". Do you like your sauces? Thick and tasty? I had the Green Curry and was very good and an awesome kick. Good portion of sauce. Do you like piece of chicken cut into fingernail size? I felt I needed a spoon honestly. So - if you like to go out and pay $9 a bowl for noodles and sauce this is perfect for you. Of course you will be hungry later because you are not eating any real food. Lots of people mentioning bugs in their food. I think that is weird and wondering if the food inspection people read here. I don't know what I was expecting when I first entered this Tokyo Joe's back in August, but I was pleasantly surprised by this little gem. The best part is, my love has not diminished in the least. I'm guilty of enjoying my fair share of chain food places from time to time, but I feel no shame in admitting my place as a member of their Addict Club. The only thing keeping me from coming more often is the fact that I live on the other side of town. I like the asian fusion vibe you get when you first walk in. The furniture is pretty cool, kind of like when a metal shop meets a playground meets a sushi bar. Plus, I have always had a pleasant experience with the staff. They are always very friendly and get my food out to me very fast. The food is what I'm here to talk about though. I'm a sucker for curry, so I have yet to order anything aside from a build-your-own-bowl with tofu and their delicious green curry sauce. I mix up my veggies and carb (brown rice or noodles) from time to time, but that's about as creative as I get. Why order off the menu when you can be the master of your own destiny? I'm intrigued by their sushi, but I have yet to come in on a sushi night to try some. They have a small selection most days, but on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays (sushi nights) their menu doubles to include some more interesting looking fare. I'll have to get back to you on how that goes, once I finally get my hands on some sushi. One last thing - I like their drink selection. You can be boring and order a fountain drink from their Pepsi machine in Japanese (they do have some cool iced tea choices as well), or you can order from their hot tea menu. They have a variety of green, black, and herbal teas that you can choose from to really try to solidify the far east ambiance. They also have some beer options, which is pretty cool. read more

I remember my first Joe's experience as a youngin' in Denver. My chicken bowl and white rice was just swimming in terriyaki sauce. Now that they're in my hometown, I visit so often they almost know me by name. The Fort Collins Tokyo Joe's location opened a few short days before Halloween this year to HUGE acclaim. Every lunch hour and dinner rush since they opened the doors there's been a line out the door. Although I do love their food, this might be the one drawback for me. It's a great location on College, with plenty of parking, but the interior is a bit of a nightmare to more around in when they're busy. The cramped minimal seating area is divided by the queue to order where there's only two registers. Occasionally leap-frogging over your line mate to get to the open "Joe" to take your order. Other than that, you can order thru their iPhone App, call it in, and pick it up if you decide to make it a bit easier on your time. Another location in town might help take the heavy traffic off this location - wink, wink. read more

There's few fast-casual spots that tend to get the lion's share of office lunch business. This is all for good reason, which is that the food offered is consistently good and worth the price and trek to the place. Clearly, speed of how the food comes out is important as most people don't get more than an hour for lunch. They may not get as busy as Q'doba or Chipotle, which are great fresh, fast-casual eateries, but that's ok by me because then at least I don't have a huge line when I'm in a hurry. Considering the alternatives to really fresh and well-thought out asian options, I think that Tokyo Joe's takes home the gold in the speed + quality category. Noodles and Co. do make Asian inspired dishes that are delicious too, but my money is on the restaurant that focuses its entire menu to really good and nutritious Asian food. I've had several items from their menu that are already designed dishes, but the beauty is to be able to create your own dish if you're willing to put a little thought and adventure into your entree. If you happen to screw it up and destroy the flavor equation by putting a bunch of ingredients together that don't belong - that's on you, and hopefully it's a learning experience. But that's where the adventure comes in, if you know a thing or two about the ingredients you may just surprise yourself with how good a dish that you created could be. If you need practice, I'd recommend go to the buffet-style Hu Hot Mongolian Grill. There's plenty of ways to fine tune your Asian palate there. Lastly, I want to say that I'd recommend this place to anyone, even those that are a little shy of Asian foods or sushi. They have an excellent menu with knowledgeable staff that are very eager to help you make your perfect food decision. It's a comfortable and hip atmosphere and just look around. Let me start by saying that my wife and I frequent other Joe's locations without problems. On this visit the young man taking our order could not seem to understand us. First he was visibly frustrated when my wife asked for a Zushi Box with tuna and salmon nigiri. It took five minutes of correcting him to get the order in. My order of the Hookipa salad with salmon was put in wrong 3 times. First is was given a half order Kihei, then a full, then a half and finally I got the full order of what I asked for. The young man was obviously embarrassed and flustered which he expressed as anger towards us. My wife's food came out first and honestly it was the sloppiest cut sushi I have ever seen. The California roll was sloppily made and the ingredients tasted old and unpleasant. My food arrived another 20 mins later as I watched every other table around me served. By the time I got my order I no longer trusted it. We left shortly after, completely displeased. We will not return this location. read more

Maggots in the edamame! You have been warned. A few years ago, we tried this location and found live bugs crawling and burrowing in the broccoli. After boycotting for a few years, we tried it again today again our better judgement. My poor daughter was enjoying some edemame, until she picked one up and a maggot popped out! We showed it to the staff, and weren't even offered a refund or apology. Finding bugs in your food twice at the same location is a sure sign to stay far away. read more
