Hey Everyone, I hate to rush to the point but I just had to mention how horrible my experience was. I ordered the hibachi steak w/ broccoli and to my dismay it seemed like they confused my order with just broccoli and maybe (or less than) 1 ounce of steak. I called to ask if they could correct the order if I brought I back but It was almost impossible to get an answer. Annie who answered the phone told me 4 ounces was the standard and I suggested sending in a picture and she said she would refund me for my meal only to call me back 10-15 minutes later asking for the food to be brought back. Which would've been fine if we hadn't talked for 10 minutes about how she was going to refund me my money. In short, do not come here or even give it a second glance they do not care about what is right and are looking for an easy dollar. read more

3.5 I rounded up. We just moved here and I was so excited to see a Hibachi place in the area! After reading the reviews, I had high expectations. The crab rangoons were over cooked, crunchy and dry. The pink sauce that comes with them was gelatin, like it was actual jello. I thought maybe it had been refrigerated and would thin out as it sat, but it didn't. That was interesting. The steamed pork dumplings were really good. We ordered chicken/shrimp, teryaki chicken, and hibachi chicken. I guess I was expecting the usual onions and zuchinni to accompany the proteins but when you order, you can only choose from broccoli or mushrooms. There is an additional charge for onions/zuchinni. The portion size was a little small for the money. This spot is close to our house, the service was fast and friendly, and our order was correct which is a win in my book. Have been going here since I was a little girl. The food has always been delicious. Prices barely went up during covid. Cheap hibachi and great quality for the price! Moved away for a few years but am now moving back to the area. I was praying that the place was still a hit and oh yes it was! Just as I remembered it, wonderful! We will definitely be stopping by here all of the time for a quick dinner! I have the hibachi steak with mushrooms and my boyfriend had the hibachi steak with broccoli. I've lived in this area for about 7 years and I can't believe I never came here before. I was look up reviews on yelp for asian food and wanted something different than my go to and I saw this place. Their menu had a good variety of food and the prices were decent. My husband called and the girl that answered was really friendly and helpful. Since it was our first time ordering, we had a few questions. Takeout only took about 15 minutes. I got the hibachi chicken and shrimp. Good portion. The shrimp wasn't overcooked and the chicken was good. The rice was also nice and fluffy. My husband got the chicken hibachi and he was pretty impressed as well. We opted out of the shrimp sauce and got the hot sauce and ginger sauce instead. The hot sauce had a good kick to it and very flavorful and my husband liked the ginger sauce. I must admit that expectations were high after reading all the reviews about the quality and value, but unfortunately it just didn't do it for me at all. Yes, the service was very personable and friendly, and yes the food came out fast, but that's where the positives end for me sorry to say. I found the food to be pricey for what you get, as my chicken and scallops in a standard to go container with some broccoli, sweet carrots and rice came to about $20, which does not scream value at all, but quite the opposite, as it was pricey for the amount of food received, which was the standard portion found in any Chinese based restaurant. I also found the food to quite bland with no flavor outside of being way too salty, and I mean way too salty. I get that the name is Tokyo one express but in my view, this feels like a Chinese restaurant using a Japanese name, as nothing about the establishment says Tokyo to me, outside of the sign in the building. Like I said, I really wanted to like this place, but it did absolutely nothing for me at all, but again the employees were friendly, so at least there's that. read more

I find myself always searching for a great hibachi spot. Tokyo One Express pretty much checks all the boxes for me. Fast, convenient, and tasty. I've been here several times and their hibachi chicken is definitely my go-to. You also get your choice of broccoli or mushrooms to accompany the fried rice and carrots. I know some places just have one option. The staff are super nice and are professional. The small dining room has a TV that usually has some sort of news channel on, but I watch a quick show on my phone while eating. Self server soda machine here, but I usually get a cup of water. There is usually a board of specials to choose from, I need to try a couple one time. The shopping center this place is located in is called Camfield Corners... there used to be a Bi-Lo grocery store that anchored the entire strip, but I'm not sure what will go in there next. There are a couple of other businesses there... an Indian restaurant, nail place, pizza, and haircut place but the lot is never super busy. I suspect it will be even less busy now that the grocery store is gone. read more

I've had hibachi take out from here several times and its not bad but I've had better! Lunch chicken hibachi entree is probably in the $7 range. I'm not really big on the carrot side that you get either, just not a huge fan of carrots I guess. As long as Tokyo Japanese is in business down the road I will not be going to Tokyo One for their lunch hibachi take out. Amazingly, I lived in the area 15 years before trying this inconspicuous little restaurant at the corner of Camfield Corners and found it to be everything that my fellow Yelpers say it is - simply good Japanese food at really good prices served by appreciative, on-site owners. I can't recommend much from the menu however as I always order the Hibachi Chicken served with broccoli, fried rice and sliced carrots (yes, carrots, which are in fact addictive!) Speaking of addictive, all entrees are served with their own house-made shrimp sauce. The servings are enormous and consistently prepared. Went here the day after Thanksgiving in Charlotte after turkey overload and lots of Black Friday shopping. My sister in law and I were ravenous and wanting take out to go relax and kick our feet up. We ordered steak and veggies. Shrimp and seaweed salad. As well as a side of fried dumplings. All of the food was delicious, drizzled with white sauce made it even better. About thirty dollars ended up feeding four of us, with leftovers still. Great deal, friendly service, and very convenient location to the Ballantyne area. Not so with Tokyo One Express. The food is tasty and inexpensive with a nice variety of options and friendly service. Camden Corners is nothing fancy--it feels like the no-frills strip mall that it is, no table coverings, no alcohol. And I'd rather them stir fry their carrots than serve them soft and sweet (as many express hibachi places do). But it's good food at a good price served with a smile. We'll be back. read more
