Blown away! Cheap price point and really good sushi (for the price). By good I mean doesn't smell like fish, good ratio of fish to rice and adequate portion sizes. Bad experience here today. They needed another sushi chef FOR SURE. 5 in our party today and the items we ordered trickled out very slowly and my granddaughter didn't get her crunch roll till the end of the meal (an hour after ordering). I tried waiting till everyone else's food arrived (mine arrived first) so by the time I could eat it was cold. Tried out the AYCE they have on Wednesdays and Saturdays only. Which was for only 29.99. Ambiance right off the bat was a little iffy. Only about 18 seats all arranged very close to each other, making it a tad claustrophobic. Kitchen in plain sight. Equipment and ingredient boxes nearby. Before I even got the food, I kept getting offered complimentary miso and salad, about 3 times, which is an old AYCE tactic to get you full faster. I made my choices on the rather limited and limiting sheet of paper. First round was Tuna, Salmon, Albacore, Eel, and Crispy Tuna. Took a bit to receive, about 30 minutes. I received the first round, everything was fine, Eel tasted a bit fishy. ...then they started giving me things I didn't ask for. Apparently, there were checkmarks on some items I didn't even notice until I got the sheet back cause they resused a sheet from a previous customer. So that was a bit of a problem. I ate them anyway, and they were pretty good... except some Ikura sushi I got, which tasted really bad. Fishy with a strangely alcoholic aftertaste. Another problematic thing with seating are the other customers, which consisted of 3 with their phones out watching Facebook videos at full blast and a mom with their kid watching a tablet... at full blast. With the claustrophobic arrangement of the seats, these noises got obnoxious real quick. It is neat there's an AYCE option this close by. Sadly, it's nothing more than a gimmicky afterthought by the restaurant. For the same price, there are plenty of other AYCE restaurants in the SGV with quality that far surpasses this. read more

I had their combo #9 to go. It was spicy salmon roll and orange chicken with rice, side salad and miso soup. The orange chicken was good you can really bite into chunks of chicken and the breading was light. I could barely taste the salmon in the spicy salmon roll, it had more of the vegetables you get from a veggie roll. The miso soup was bland and didn't have enough tofu. I really wanted to try the Volcano Roll- broiled salmon roll with Lion King Sauce, hmm interesting and because it looked good in the picture. Maybe next time when I am down this way I'll venture in again and order that one instead. read more

I've actually haven't been here since they first day they opened cause the food was subpar, the quality sucked, and the wait for food was really long!! Im glad to see that since their grand opening the quality of their food has gotten A LOT better!! I ordered the teriyaki beef bowl and it was actually really good. The meat was seasoned well and cooked perfectly, the broccoli was steamed with great taste and the rice is like any other rice. The portion seemed a little small for me but i was ok with it since i'm kinda on a diet. The wait for food was still lengthy buy the quality of the food that came out was better than before. Im not saying this is the best japanese restaurant, i'm saying that its worth a try if you're in the area and craving japanese. When i first came on their grand opening i ordered sushi which i just threw away. I didn't get a chance to order that now but ill definitely come back to see if it was better than before. read more

Nice to see a Japanese restaurant in Baldwin Park and so close to the freeway too. You'd always have to go to nearby West Covina or Irwindale to get Japanese food. I got the 3 item combo of California roll, sesame chicken, and teriyaki salmon. The sesame chicken tasted alot like orange chicken, the California roll was fresh, and the white rice was topped with a little sesame. All three were ok. I liked the salmon even more. It was tender and the teriyaki gave it a nice sweetness. The portion is little on the smallish side tho. The side salad with Italian and miso soup were ok. All in all, not a bad place to get your Japanese food fix. Of course, we're not comparing this place to someplace like Hayakawa Covina where you'd have you'd have to take out a second mortgage to order the carpaccio, but that's definitely a good thing. I wish i could give this place a higher rating.. but i can't ): why? because the lady that works here was so uber-d-duperly nice! i'm sure she was either the owner if not one of them but eep! i just can't! Let's get this started.. Parking: shared parking lot with tortas sinaola, mickeyD's, home depot, etc. Decor: As soon as you pull/walk up to the place you immediately get the vibe that it's not really a sit down placeee. there's two tables that will seat 4 guests and the rest are two seaters; there were enough seats for about 20?? people in the whole place. It was cute, they had seasonal decorations up but the lighting in there reminded me of the type of lighting you get from yoshinoya or something. bright. white. cold. there's also a flat screen mounted up in one of the corners. Food: +_shrimp udon ($7.50): the soup was yummy but it felt like it was missing something.. there were like 5? 6? pieces of shrimp, two slices of fish cake, and a couple things of seaweed. I'd order this again on a cold day MAYYBE but i'd order it to go next time and probably add stuff to it at home.. shrug. +_spicy tuna roll ($4.95): this was weird. the spicy part and the tuna part were separate.. it wasn't something i was used to. it was literally tuna with hot sauce next to it and these chopped up lil bits of cucumber in the roll.. i wouldn't recommend it /: ): +_philiadelphia roll (7.25): soooo NOT worth it!!! ): not enough salmon and too much cream cheese! boooooo. In the city of Baldwin Park, unless you're looking for an abundance of Mexican restaurants, variety is rare. I've lived her my entire life and have eaten almost everything this city has to offer, and have only ran into at best, decent Asian cuisine. This restaurant fits into the lower end of that category. Don't get me wrong, anything other than Mexican food here is always a gem (and that's partially why you run into other varitity of restaurants in the area other than Mexican food being rated so high), but if you're looking for high quality Asian food, this restaurant does not fit the bill. I can only speak on the cooked food here, but considering they also serve sushi and sushi being one of the more difficult qualities of food to measure up to, it would be farfetched to assume the sushi is also sub-par. What I had here was the 3 item combo which comes with rice, a salad, and a selection of 3 entrees. My choice for the night was the teriyaki salmon, teriyaki chicken, and sesame chicken. First off, I enjoy a decent salad with my meal, it's probably one of the hardest items a restaurant can mess up. Ready to drench my salad in their house dressing, I opened the container to smell it as the look of the dressing did not help in determining what kind of dressing it was. Examining the dressing, it had a strange smell to it, and definitely not one i've ever associated with a salad dressing. It also has a liquid texture to it almost like it were watered down. After assessing the dressing I decided, "OK, guess it isn't a salad night." I moved on to the entrees. The sesame chicken was basically orange sesame chicken, the type of chicken you get at any hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant. My first thought, "What's Chinese food doing at a Japanese/Sushi restaurant?" Tasted rather bland but was probably the most flavorful item of the dish. The teriyaki chicken and salmon I'll group into the same category, bland tasting. It's pretty hard to mess up salmon, but occassionally you run into a restaurant who succeeds with messing it up, this being one of them. The salmon is flat, dried out, and tasteless. The teriyaki sauce spread liberally around the salmon isn't flavorful either. The chicken, taste like well...chicken. Nothing crazy, doesn't taste very teriyaki flavored, and a little on the dry side. This is the type of chicken you drown in hot sauce to make bring life to it. Saddly, hot sauce barely revives it. Overall, if you want quick, "Japanese" cuisine, this place will only be OK, and make you wish you searched a little more. If you're in the area and want something other than Mexican food, go across the street to the Panda Express, it won't be the most delicious, but then you'll already know what to expect and won't be too disappointed. read more

I ordered the 3 item combo (Teri chicken, Ton Katsu & vegetable tempura) & an order of California Rolls. They actually give a lot of food! The pork they use for the Ton Katsu (pork cutlet) is tough and it was really dry. The chicken tasted pre-cooked and was really dry. However, the California rolls & tempura were fine. The woman at the register was nice and friendly. Would I return? Depends on how badly I want Japanese food. read more
