We use to go to benihana before, but this time my honey and I decided to bring our daughters here, since they are now old enough to enjoy the chef's show. They were so amazed to see everything cooked in front of them. I think it even made them more excited to actually eat the food as well. Only downside is the woman they sat us with she was such a Debbie - downer and was being rude to the hostess and chef! Our chef was still a great sport about it and kept the show going! If I could leave a zero I would - we checked in party of 4. We noticed other parties that came after us being seated. When we inquired they told us they mistakenly wrote 9 and they would seat us in 10 minuets. 30 minuets later still no table. We asked to speak the manager and he made excuses and would sit us next. Another 15 minuets later still no table. Horrible customer service. Do not go to this location. read more

Okay, so I just ate there for dinner and I had such a poor experience that I feel compelled to write a negative review now. We came in and sat at the normal tables (ones without the grill). The service was poor as our watress basically forgot us. Okay I exaggerate a bit, but that's how it felt like. Also, everything came in the wrong order, with our main course first and our appetizer last. We ordered a number of things: Edamame, which never came. Wahoo steak-the only good thing about this dish was the sauce and rice. Actually, that sauce and rice was the highlight of the night, which is just sad. The beef was not seared as the photograph belied, and it was not worth twenty dollars. I honestly could have made that same beef at home and have it taste less bland. Pocky ball - bland and without flavor. The only flavor came from the mayonnaise based sauce on the side. Yellowtail sashimi-it was incredibly fishy in taste. King crab roll- again, bland. All I tasted was mayonnaise. At the end of the meal, I was wanting something just...non-bland/mayo-packed. Fortunately, a peppermint candy saved me. Finally, to top it off, our check took ten minutes to reach our table. By then I was wanting to get out of there as quickly as possible, but the slow service prevented that from happening. I understand that most if the waitresses are staffed at the grill side (on our side, our waitress at the beginning ditched, leaving one waitress to deal with six tables), but that doesn't mean the restaurant should neglect it's other customers. Worst waitress ever!!! If your server is 'MARY'?, ask for another one. She put her finger on both of me my sister's soup, so we simply asked for other ones. She literally threw our soups into tray (from where we can see). From then, she tells us (my whole family) to grab all our dishes from her tray saying "I don't want to touch your food". Can you believe this? Even from the begining, when taking our orders, we were smiling but she had cynical looks on her. She was talking back to us. (sorry, don't have time for this story) We asked for a manager, but he didn't come by, so we asked if Mary called him for us on our way out and he said no. Well this was the email i intended to send this restaurant but i think they suck so bad they disabled there email....... I am writing this email to let you know of the horrible experience I had at your restaurant. My girlfriend, her daughter and myself were sat in the dining area (in the bar) as requested. To start our wonderful evening the table we were seated at was not cleaned, still had glasses on it (we had to pick up the glasses ourselves). We sat for twenty minutes before I actually had to get up and get our own drinks at the bar. We watched other people that came in after us being served, but for some reason we were completely ignored. I started to pay attention to the clock because it just seemed like we were absolutely invisible. Then after fifteen minutes I got up and asked the manager if we could order our food sometime soon, the waitress finally was told to come to our table. We ordered our food and ten minutes later ONE PARTIAL meal came, it was to have rice with it although that came way later. Eleven minutes from the first meal came ANOTHER PARTIAL meal (once again without rice). As for the third meal that too took another ten minutes to reach our table, and on top of that the steak (Whaoo Steak) was cold and way over cooked. It tasted like beef jerky but it was a Filet Mignon with the price of $20. something. It was HORRIBLE! Each one of us ate at different times, we ate alone and this is NOT an exaggeration what so ever! Not once did our waitress ever come to our table to ask if we needed anything or how everything was! We were completely ignored!! I understand that it was Valentine's Day but the bar area was not busy , and I saw at least two other waitresses helping everyone else and not one of them even looked in our direction even though we tried to get someone's attention (I counted three empty tables). I informed the hostess because our waitress never returned to our table to refill our drinks or ask if we needed anything and she actually had already known how bad our service was along with the cold food and informed the manager. Even with one of your employee's complaining to a manager about the service it didn't change how badly we were treated. My experience is that when there is bad service the manager will AT LEAST apologize, but he did not acknowledge us at all!! We waited twenty five minutes, watching everyone else being taken care of, no one looking our way and wondering if we would ever get our check. We could have easily just walked out without paying and probably should have since the service and food was not worth what we paid but once again I had to go to the manager and ask for our check and let him know of our terrible experience. I received more compassion from the hostess and the tattooed bartender who saw what was going on then I did from the manager. All the manager said was "sorry" then walked away. The hostess proceeded to apologize and I could tell she was completely embarrassed for the managers behavior. After I finally received the check I personally gave it to the manager and let him know how terrible the service was and that he had no business managing a restaurant, and before we left the hostess apologized again and was very sweet. I own my own business and even when we get real busy I have never treated a customer like the way we were treated. I normally go to Shogun but thought that I would give you guys a shot and I will be sure to let all my family, friends, customers and Face Book know where NOT TO GO. I hope you take the time to follow up on this manager and waitress, we were there 2/14/11 at 7:20 pm to 9:32 pm and please commend the kindness of the hostess. I hope she has better luck at the Long Beach location where she told me she was being transfered to. Hi I came in yesterday for my fathers birthday and unfortunately i was dissapointed. I reserved a table for my family and we got seated next to a couple. I asked for a certain cook and got someone else. It seemed like everyone in the restaurant was depressed. No one was really in a good mood and made the atmosphere sad. The cook did not even bother putting on a good show, in fact he didn't do anything. He did not say one word through out the demonstration. I ordered the chicken teriyaki with fried rice. It had no flavor. Ive had better experiences here before. The only thing that saved my rating from a one star, was the kind service from the young waitress. Great place to eat on a date or with the family. Definitely sit around the Teppanyaki grill so that you can experience the whole show by the chefs. It's a lot of food too, but it better be for the prices. We had the seafood steak combo and it was really good. My husband liked the fact that he could request more seasoning and it was customized to what we wanted. They also gave us coupons (money off offers) for our next visit. I've been to this location many times over the last 17 years. Unfortunately less often during the last 5. Things have gone downhill, and we have chosen to go to another location further away. Tonight we tried again, and unfortunately it will be the last time. First, the waiting for the table, standing in the lobby waiting for more customers so they can fill the table I presume. I had requested that we be seated and wait at the table but no. After finally being seated it was 20 minutes before we saw the soup. The salad arrived shortly after but was very wet- the lettuce was washed but there was too much water. Swimming in 3/4" of water at the bottom of the bowl. Not very appetizing. I ordered the ichi ban - my personal Tokyo Wako favorite for many years. Ultimately everything (fried rice, and all the vegetables) put on the plates was drowning in sesame seeds, and much of the food was burned and/or tasted of burnt butter. My lobster tail was extremely small, and after I ate some I found it to have an awful "fishy" taste - it smelled bad and I realized it was spoiled. The manager came, and offered to remove it from the bill. They almost made up for it with the filet mignon. It was perfectly cooked. Alas, not a good experience right to the last. After giving the waitress my credit card we had another 15 minute wait before they came back with the receipt to sign. The rest of my party was waiting outside. Also, they really need to clean the floors around the table before seating anyone. God knows they had enough time. If you love Tokyo Wako as much as I do, save yourself the potential disappointment and drive into Pasadena. This location is on my blacklist. Then she said they don't want to start the grill until someone else comes cause we only ordered one meal for the three of us. I'll give it ONE STAR. 5/11/12 went there to let me son experience it for his first time. I ordered a " Han Job" to drink, my GF ordered a Margarita which she didn't like after tasting my beverage. So she asked to exchange it, and the waitress acted like she drove to Mexico to get the drink after making all kind of funny faces the waitress finally took the drink back . When our chef came out he was about as exciting as watching GRASS GROW!! He did the " FIRE" thing ( aggh) and did the onion valcano which he knocked over to soon ( awww). The food was ok. The thing that gets me, is how they just assume no one at the table is allergic to shell fish. They just plop ship on ur plate. I went in with my family recently to celebrate a birthday, and I think it maybe be a new regular place for us to celebrate! The atmosphere is fun, most of the time when you walk in you can hear the tambourine from another birthday celebration. Our chef, Bobby, was beyond amazing! We've been there before and all the chefs are great, but Bobby had our entire table laughing the entire time he cooked. He grabbed everyone's attention while he worked, even the kids! Disgusting!!! My family and I decided to go to Tokyo Wako to celebrate my husband's birthday. We ordered filet mignon and chicken and it was the worst meal I've ever eaten. The cooks no longer put on a show except for one young chef. While the chef was cooking for us I asked "where's the show"? He said wait I'm going to light the volcano! That's all he did, and this isn't hyperbole. He literally cut food and piled it on our plates. No show, no personality. Next, the chicken was cut in big chunks, I would say 2-3 inches and it tasted like rubber. I actually spit mine out and never went back for a second piece. After the meal, I asked to talk to the manager, when I told him about not having a show and the chicken being gross, he just laughed nervously and said "so you don't like show?" I told him there was no show to like! He said okay and then I mentioned that the food wasn't prepared well and tasted bad. He said okay "I tell the chef" . At this point I just wanted to get the hell out of there, so I paid our bill which was over $200 and promised myself that I would never return to this location. The food was awful there is no show, i was really disappointed. Also, If it wasn't bad enough three out of four people who ate that night we're going back-and-forth to the restroom all night. This used to be one of our favorite places to eat for special occasions. We always went for our anniversary, Valentines day, birthdays ect. We especially like our cook who we always request, Popo. After last night we will never go back. After paying our bill of $435.00 a server that we have had on a previous night accused us of stepping out on our bill. She was yelling at us in front of the entire restaurant, then the manager comes over and says he going to call the police on us. It was my husband's birthday and we had our family there. The manager was very unprofessional and hurried us through our cooking experience because they were short on cooks. He is rude and very unpleasant. It took half an hour just to get to the ordering of dinner, The food was good but we were seated at a table with a big fat sick slob that took up his space and half of mine. Pretty chill place on a weekday, pretty empty. This one is better then the one in Pasadena mainly because of the service, our waitress was a lot nicer then the one at Pasadena and a lot more attentive. I had the Grilled Miso Salmon...which was Delicious and different, and of course I had to get my salmon sushi. The salmon sushi was as good as the one I had in Pasadena! Regular customer. Took my best friends there for dinner Saturday night. The service was great, but the show the cook put on at the grill was a bit lacking. My 6 year old godson Drew was more entertained by watching the other tables.. The food was pretty tasty, but Drew's mom specifically asked that there be no teriyaki sauce be on Drew's meal, but there it was , dripping with sauce. Luckily, I liked it, and switched with Drew. We got a kick out of the Koi pond, and the help there graciously gave us fish food to feed the Koi. I thought the food was so so, but mom absolutely loves the fried rice. read more

I have been there a number of times over the years and it gets worse with every visit. The food is fine, but last night, the service was way below average. BAR NONE the most awful experience...and what happened after the end of the meal was abominable. Have been eating Teppan-Yaki since I was a small child in the early 70s, traveling to Benihana in Beverly Hills because it was the closest restaurant of its type. Back in the novel heyday of the Teppan-Yaki house, chefs used to take pride in their showmanship, you had beautiful Asian waitresses who would wait on you hand and foot, and the drinks were strong and made you want to order more. You could be sitting next to a celebrity as we often were, but always well-heeled clientele no matter who they were...the place was packed every night they were open. Benihanas in Hawaii and San Francisco offered a similar experience as I was lucky enough to go to a few traveling with my family growing up. When a special occasion came, Benihana was the place. The main LA chef, Fred, was the most incredible of the chefs, was so proud of his skills, and made for an awesome time; so good that he was later recruited for the legendary Ginsu Knife commercial that ran for years. Fast-forward to last night - horrible! It took 10 minutes to get cocktail service in the bar, and the manager who was doubling as bartender did not even know which bottle of scotch (Glenfiddich) my brother wanted as she chose it from the bar and did not know what Stoli was! Throughout the rest of the evening, everything was just off. We kept having to ask for simple things twice, the waitress failed to write down my father's order and had to come out and get it again, and the atmosphere felt more like a Chuck E. Cheese with all of the noise and ruckus of the kids and families. The chef's show was downright awful. He was slow, boring, and not too personable. I've never seen a Teppan chef's hands work slower on shrimp than his. The food tasted good, but the whole thing just made me want to box up my food and beat a hasty retreat. And when we did finally get to the end of the ordeal, we had to search around for the waitress to get the check. When my brother went to try and find her, he opened the service station curtain behind our table...and the busboys were scraping food off of people's plates and feasting on patrons' leftovers - AAAAAAHHHHH! By the way, we were there for my sister-in-law's birthday. NEVER have the staff put that godawful sumo wig and hapi coat on you for the souvenir picture. They have not washed the coat in years and it smells like ancient sweat and I shudder to think of how many unclean heads that wig has laid upon. So sad...maybe I'll have to go back and try Shogun in East Pasadena. read more

My husband and I normally enjoy our stay here but tonight was really bad. Server is really nice but the Chef was just horrible. First of all he was dropping his utensils all over the place; drops margarine on the floor; gave my fried rice to someone else; when he was cooking, the food the going all over the place; when he was putting food on my plate, it was so sloppy, it went to the other person's plate..... and I think the worst part was, when he was scraping the dirt, he was so bad, the scraped dirt went to another person's plate and he didn't even apologize. We were told they'd waive the corkage fee for having us wait longer than they originally told us. We had a reservation but still had to wait 35-40 min. At the end of the dinner they brought the check and did not waive the corkage fee. My dad asked to speak to the manager about it. He told him that we were told they'd waive the corkage fee. The "manager" mid conversation handed my dad the check and just walked out of the private room. Did not let my dad finish his statement, did not even try to work with us. Straight up handed the check back to my dad and walked right out. This "manager" should be fired. The manager before him was amazing. Too bad he's at the Ontario location now. read more

Yes, because I am a creature of habit and when I find good food and good service I usually return to a location. Especially tepan grill places! Tepan seems far-fetched and I have to travel two cities over to come to this location, but it really is great. From the mixed drinks, entertainment factor, down to the deep fried green tea ice cream, I do not what I would do without Tokyo Wako. Definitely, make it a point to try their tuna steak, and don't forget to add jumbo shrimp to your order! The soft buttery goodness of seared tuna steak pairs nicely with a glass of Plum Wine. You have the option of telling the chef to what consistency you want your meat cooked and because it is right in front of you while being cooked sending it back is no inconvenience. This is a family favorite for all special occasions and is on my eight-year-olds top list of places to eat. You can't go wrong with Ninja Chicken for the kids not to mention butter garlic in the fried rice, woooh! read more

Sooo. . . My friend and I went shopping at the Santa Anita mall last night, had scheduled in watching the Laker game at BJs or DBs (what's up w/restaurants w/initials?!). . . but, being the girls that we are, totally missed the Laker game - to our dismay. So being pouty, we decided to skip eating at the original choices, and settled on Tokyo Wako. She and I have never eaten there, and I'm always up for a new restaurant - especially a Japanese one. We sat at the sushi bar cause we wanted quick service. I'm assuming they were close to quitting time because the crowd was sparse. Anyhow, we were seated by the cute hostess in a little kimono-type outfit w/the "sockies" and little sandals to go w/. My friend made a comment on how "traditional" they looked. . . There was no on else at the sushi bar, so we quickly made our order - edamame, spicy tuna roll, salmon sashimi, baked lobster roll, tempura, and a firecracker roll. . . - Edamame - a little salty, but a fair portion - Spicy tuna roll - YUMMY. . . it had cucumber in it, and gave it that extra crunchy kick - Salmon sashimi - my friend had this, and I have no comment - Baked lobster roll - Dude. I would TOTALLY go back for JUST this roll alone. .. the lobster was succulent and soft - not all chewy and overcooked. . . the sauces that were drizzled over made this roll really, really good. I'm a little upset that I didn't take a pic too - the rolls looked really pretty - Tempura - on the menu it said four shrimp and four vegetable. . . but we got five shrimp and an assortment of veggies - who's complaining about more food? Not me! - Firecracker roll - okay. . . it has scallops in the middle, wrapped w/rice and nori (seaweed), and has two kinds of fish on the outside - it's escaping me at the moment what kind they are. Anyhow - as my friend describes it, "it tastes like the OCEAN". . . Ew. She and I had a piece each and we brought the rest home. Not so good. :oP So the food? B. . . the service? Eh. Not stellar, especially since they weren't busy. . . Honestly, I don't know if I'd go back - there wasn't one thing that really GRABBED me. . . food, service, decor or otherwise. . . Well, here's the situation: I went here last year. My friend's mom's rich boyfriend paid for my meal so I didn't look at the prices. Can't give my feedback on that. Comparison: The other Japanese restaurants that cook in front of you are more entertaining, however the food here was much better. To second someone else on the page, the service wasn't that great, but the food was GOOOOOD! I sampled everyone's plate! (lol, I'm such a moocher) So, if you don't give a damn about service and money ain't an issue, go there and enjoy the great food! This is go to place when it come for celebration! The quality of the food is amazing and chefs know how to cook to perfection! I'm a seafood fan so I always get scallops or lobster with my meal. I always appreciate to the chef who know how to make perfect scallops! All chef have different tricks up on their sleeves so the show is always a surprise to see and enjoy.
