    Scallops wrapped with Salmon
    Jennifer D.

Friday night, my family walked in and saw it was a bit empty. Already was giving red flags. I've been living in pasadena my whole live and I've never been here. This is a first time we were here. There are two areas: one for the grill where the cook in front of you, and another where it is standard dining. We went for standard dining. To start: Ambiance: 1/10 - Depressing. Bland. Simple. Nothing more. Service: 8/10 -it was okay. Unfortunately forgot the guys name but he did his job as normal. Nothing to complain about him. The hostest at the front was nice as well. Food: 1/10. Atrocious. I've had better japanese food else where and I gave this place a shot and I've never felt so digusted. Chirashi Bowl: 4/10 - the fish ok ish. But one piece was very fishy and another had a weird taste. The salad inside the bowl was unnecessary because it did not go with the Sashimi & Rice. The bowl came with miso soup and a set salad. (Next comment) the rice was good sticky rice. Nice and warm and compliments with the fish. "Miso Soup" : 1/10 - just looking at it we were like what is this?? It's not even miso soup. It's like clear broth with super thing mushrooms and some green onions. We all know what kiso soup is and THIS IS NOT miso soup. Mini Salad: 1/10 - bitter and wilted piece of lettuce. And the dressing is like a citrus sesame? But honestly I don't even know what it is. That didn't bother telling us what dressing it is. It made the salad super watery too. Unpleasant. Scallop Salmon Wrap: 1/10 - came with rice that was dry and hard. Inedible. The Salmon was over cooked and dry. It tasted bland. Veggies Tempura (no photo): 7/10 - it's not the best we've had, but after comparing to everything we've ate, it was so much better. It came with a good amount of tempura. I do noticed there was more squash pieces of tempura compared to having better veggies options like other places have. Ie: this has more variant sweet potatos. Garlic Edamame: 7/10 : Came in a standard size bowl. It was over cook/mushy. Some pieces were good, and other pieces were bad. The garlic flavor was nice though. Price for this whole entire meal: $107 with tip. Literally 4 things cost this much is ridiculous. I've been to other Japanese resturants where i got more bang out of my buck and paid around the same price or even less. This pricing does not live up to its par of quality in food. It is such a disgrace of calling this Japanese food. Never coming back again. I'm just happy to try it. Note: Food is Horrendous. It is not our servers fault that the food was bad. He even saw how much left overs there were and was like "oh is the food okay?" I had to say "yeah it's fine". Update: my husband and I got food poisoning and was vomiting hours later after dinner.

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! Really really bad! Really rude server (Miguel)and receptionist! What's the problem with these people. We are just starving that's why we didn't leave! What is Management doing about it?! The food is horrible. The only nice thing today was when we paid the bill- Sarah was nice! But that's it! Not coming back!

My first visit to this restaurant, and I ordered way too much food, but everything was excellent. Started with the vegetable tempura appetizer and order the Chitrashi sushi for my entrée. Both items were prepared perfectly. The tempura was excellent: crisp, warm and delicious. The sushi was very flavorful and fresh and I realize it's been too long since I've had sushi! Recommend both of these dishes

Recently we celebrated a birthday with 13 of us, at Tokyo Wako Pasadena, and it was nothing short of a disaster. While the price wasn't bad, the service (Miguel) was absolutely atrocious. From the moment we sat down, it was clear that the staff had zero respect for us. They kept glaring at us like we were doing something wrong, probably because we were a younger group. The chef couldn't even get a simple order right after repeating it! Completely butchered the steak orders. Three filet mignons were all cooked medium, even though we ordered one medium and two medium-rare and they all went to the 3 on the right in a roll,But somehow he even put steak to the person that ordered Salmon. And to top it off, he gave my filet mignon to someone who ordered a medium-well ribeye. Are you kidding me? No apology, than at the end everyone got their food and someone got mine and that person steak was still on the grill than he says I have an extra steak if anyone wants more. Like no it's not Extra!! It was just an attempt to play it off like it didn't happen. Completely unprofessional! When it came time to pay the bill, the situation got even worse. The staff hovered around us like we were criminals, giving us uncomfortable stares as if we were going to dine and dash. We decided to pay in cash as a group, but that seemed to trigger even more suspicion. They started speaking in another language, and it was blatantly obvious they were talking about us. It was downright disrespectful. This was my first time at Tokyo Wako Pasadena, and it will be my last. The place was practically empty when we arrived, and now I understand why. They had every opportunity to make things right, and they didn't. Do yourself a favor - skip this place and head to a Korean BBQ where you'll actually get your money's worth. This restaurant deserves to fail. **Avoid this place like the plague!**

Hi, do you have happy hour?

They did in the beginning of the year but I think they took it off

    Are they still open?

Yes they are, for dinner. I went there last month

Are there vegetarian options on the menu?

Yes, they have a vegetarian entree with rice, soup, salad, grilled veggies and tofu. They also have soba type noodles with tofu and avocado & tamago sushi, etc. You'll be able to find something for dinner.

Consensus: Long wait time but always worth my time and money…read more Sugarfish is my favorite non-AYCE sushi spot that provides plenty of value for what you pay for. I have gone plenty of times and I always get the "Don't Think. Just Eat. Trust Me." and it has always been worth it. For $60, you really cannot go wrong for what they offer. I recommend trying to choose dine-in over their to-go option if you have the time because the difference is night and day, but both options are good. Every time I go the consistency is pretty on par. Every piece melts in your mouth and should be enjoyed slowly. My favorite side-orders are either the Bluefin Otoro or the Bluefin Chutoro. It is very complimentary to "Don't Think. Just Eat. Trust Me." You can never go wrong with any order. I would say just limit yourself based on how much you can eat and what your wallet can support. The lighting is dark and the space inside can be small, so be prepared for that.

Very disappointing experience for a gluten-free customer…read more 1. Zero accommodation for gluten-free guests SUGARFISH does not offer gluten-free soy sauce. Apparently, their gluten-free option is simply to serve the sushi without soy sauce -- with no salty substitute whatsoever. We asked if the kitchen could provide salt, miso, or anything else gluten-free to add some flavor. We were told they had none. So the solution was basically: eat the sushi completely plain. For a sushi restaurant, not having gluten-free soy sauce is already surprising. Having absolutely no alternative -- not even something as basic as salt -- made the experience even worse. 2. Zero problem-solving What was more frustrating was that no one seemed interested in helping us find a solution. After we repeatedly asked about alternatives, the first server finally said they would look for some salt, but never came back with it. When a second server brought our food, we asked again and were simply told that the kitchen had no salt and no miso. No alternative was suggested. No other option was offered. Just "we don't have it." I completely understand that restaurants cannot accommodate every dietary restriction. But there is a big difference between not having a specific ingredient and making no effort to help a guest find a reasonable alternative. If you are gluten-free, I would not recommend this location.

The yellow tail that came in the sushi combo A was the star of the show. I would order the yellow tail without any hesitation over and over again. The tuna was equally as delicious. We're ordering different things all the time and I've yet to dislike a single thing. The sushi is soooooooo yummy. For door dash, they sort the food by the group order. My daughter's name is Lotus and they always draw a flower on the top. It's little details like this that tell me the people preparing this food care about it and the customers they serve. We ordered multiple nigiris, rolls, and appetizers for our table. The servers and staff seemed to not communicate with each other, leading to slow and sloppy service. The nigiris came out much later than the rolls and the bowls, to the point where half of our party was done eating before the first nigiri plate came out. In fact, the service was so slow that the servers started to clear our plates while we were waiting for them to bring out our food The servers were awkwardly clashing plates at our table and being difficult about refilling the water and tea. After dropping $800+ as a table, we were waiting on one last nigiri (Yellowtail Belly) to come out. We asked our waiter to check on it for us, and he came back to us saying it should have been on the plate that had the other Yellowtail Nigiri on it. The reason why we brought this up in the first place is because the two didn't come out together. He then brings another waitress who tells us it should have come out already, and then another who tells us completely different information (i.e. it came out with different fish). Overall an unpleasant experience. Would not be back again nor would I recommend this place to anyone, especially since they made such a big deal out of $10 nigiri on a $800 bill.

An unforgettable dining experience from beginning to end!…read more Our little one woke up one morning and announced that she wanted to try caviar, so we found Kaviar in Pasadena because they offer a true caviar service complete with all the traditional accoutrements. Chris was our server, and he was absolutely fantastic. He made us feel genuinely welcomed, anticipated everything we needed, and turned our daughter's first caviar experience into such a special memory. She especially loved the dramatic cold fog rising from the ice, and needless to say, she is now officially in love with caviar! We ordered the: * 50g caviar service (ten out of ten, no notes) * shishito peppers (the sauce is out of this world) * uni pasta (the heavy cream is divine) * Wagyu strip loin steak (melts in your mouth) * baked lobster roll signature roll (pure decadence) * blue crab and salmon signature sashimi (rich, silky, and incredibly fresh) * albacore crispy onion signature sashimi (fireworks in every bite) * garlic albacore signature roll (so good, we forgot to talk) Every single dish was outstanding. We honestly couldn't choose a favorite or even rank them. The flavors were so fresh, balanced, and beautifully executed that we didn't even reach for the soy sauce. Before we left, we also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Tigran. He took our family photo, personally walked us out, and made us feel incredibly special. That level of hospitality stayed with us just as much as the food. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, chic, stylish, and perfect for a special occasion, while still feeling warm and inviting. We were still talking about the meal the entire drive home. Exceptional food, exceptional service, and an experience our family will always remember. We cannot wait to return!

The fish itself was cooked perfectly and stayed incredibly moist. My only small complaint is that I wish the skin had been a little crispier. I always end up picking at the crispy bits, so I was hoping for a little more there.
