I have no idea how this restaurant is in business. It perhaps goes down as the worst sushi experience I've ever had. First, it's a small business, with one sushi chef, so I was willing to wait for our food. There were 2 tables ahead of us and from the moment we walked in the door and sat down it took 50 MINS to get 2 rolls and 4 pieces of nigiri. They didn't even serve us our miso soups until the rolls came out, which there was no reason for, considering I'm sure they have a pot of it ready to go in the kitchen. And we also ordered a green tea that never came. The wait time was so ridiculous, everyone around us started asking for their food to-go or cancelling orders as well. How is this place making any money? And after the longest wait ever, I was just so hoping the food would at least be good... Wrong! It was horrendous. The fish was so chewy I couldn't even bite into the salmon to tear it into two. And it all tasted slimy and "fishy." And I am no novice to sashimi and nigiri. I have had better fish at cheaper spots. It was so inedible that I was turned off immediately and did not finish any of it. And we still were missing a roll, which I had them cancel due to the wait time and taste. I can't believe this place has the stars it has and has been in business as long as it has. I've had disappointing restaurant experiences and rarely take the time to write a review, but here I am! That's how bad this was... Stay clear of this hell hole and I hope Mission St can get a better neighborhood sushi spot! read more

Always walked by this restaurant but never had time to walk in. Today around 1:30pm we walked by again and saw no one inside, so we went in. We were the only customers, ordered two sushi (not even rolls), waited 40 minutes for 4 small sushi! This chef took his sweet time to go in and out the kitchen doing god knows what?! I think he's either very inexperienced which doesn't seem like it or has ultra poor time management? I don't understand how you make 4 small sushi rolls for 40 minutes? Unbelievable! The fish was fresh. I like that their sushi had less rice than the average restaurant. They had Tamari sauce to accommodate my gluten allergy. The salmon sashimi was ok but the yellowtail was extremely disgusting. It had a rubbery taste and smelled pretty bad. Just staring at the photo I took disgust me. Small cozy place with a kind and knowledgeable owner. There's not much in the vegetarian section, although everything turned out quite tasty. I'd skip the cucumber next time and load up on more avocado or asparagus. Both were absolutely delicious! Despite even owning a condo just around the corner (admittedly not being there a whole lot), I never noticed this extreeeeemly small place. Literally, there are probably at most 10-12 seats. The 2 person staff was attentive and charming. So - what's up with the most important aspect, the food? Delicious!!! Just plain and simply delicious. Ok, edamame is edamame, not much can go right or wrong here. But really, the seaweed salad was classes better than anywhere else before, so full and such a wonderful consistency. A seared Albacore salad was an excellent addition. Of the numerous available rolls, we chose a caterpillar roll, a dragon roll, and Tomodachi roll, but could not get enough and had to add a salmon spicy tuna roll, but after that simply could not resist to re-order another dragon roll. Directly across from the South Pasadena gold line stop, with 4 tables, a kind wait staff of 1 and a happy sushi chef in full view, this place doesn't disappoint. The menu is simple, like the environment, but big on freshness and taste. There's a slight twist on some of the rolls with a nice ponzu (citrus-based) sauce. Overall, you have a classy basic menu. But keep in mind, it's closed on Sundays and Mondays and between 3 and 5 PM Tues-Sat. So control your cravings to open hours, lest you'll miss out (as I have.) Have gotten the Rainbow roll and some unagi a couple times now and it's been great each time. I can walk to the place and kinda wish I'd started going more often sooner... It's take-out only right now but you can call in your order if you want and takes around 20-30 min because there's only one sushi chef. Came in and was greeted and provided a table. Not much seating here at all but being middle of day, we were licky enough to find a seat. Simple menu but lots of good choices and overall reasonably priced. Service was decent and friendly enough. Now to the food - tried some such which was good. Fish was pretty good with nice cuts. Ordered yellowtail which was good. Also tried some rolls which were hit / miss. Enjoyed the spicy salmon roll ( although not really spicy) and shrimp tempura roll. All ingredients seemed fresh and were tasty enough. Tamadochi roll was so so, but overall wouldn't say it deterred me from not wanting to come back. Would recommend if you're in the area. I always drive by this place and decided to check them out today. Im a sushi lover and always willing to support local restaurants. This place is literally a hole in the wall but those are typically my favorite type of spots. Nothing glamorous. When I walked in, the room was very small. I ordered the spicy jalapeño salmon roll, a spicy tuna roll and a miso soup. ($22.05) which is consider extremely expensive considering the portion and quality. The gentlemen behind the counter was not friendly. I asked him if I can eat there and he said he would charge me an additional 15 percent. I told him never mind and paid and he then showed me another receipt of someone that left a tip, hinting that I should leave a tip. I told him why would I leave a tip if I'm taking my order to go?? He shrugged and I walked out. Both rolls were VERRY and mediocre with not much flavor. The miso soup was very salty and not eatable. The complimentary salad he gave me didn't have any dressing, just lettuce. I wouldn't have left a review but felt obligated to warn those that are considering trying this place. If you're hungry and want quality sushi at a descent preceding and good service, drive a few more blocks to Tokoro. Don't wast your time and money here!!! read more

I've been wanting to try Blue Fin out for a while now, but never got around to 'til recently because I'm lucky enough to have a number of other really great sushi spots near me. But since I ride the Gold Line, it was a convenient spot to meet up with a friend for dinner on a Thursday evening. We tried the seared salmon belly sushi and the Tomadachi roll. The salmon belly was good -- tasty and fatty, in a good way. The Tomadachi roll (spicy tuna and albacore topped with onion), however, was just okay. I didn't expect for the restaurant to be as small as it is, so I wouldn't recommend this place for large parties (greater than four or six). I'm not sure if it ever gets busy because there was only one other party dining in when I was there, but there were lots of customers picking up take out. Because of this, our orders came out considerably late, but the server acknowledged the wait and gave us miso soup on the house. read more
