Let's start with the service I make a reservation on Wednesday for 16 people I call back Friday morning and tell him it's only going to be 12. We get there at 11:55. They won't see this until everyone's there the average age of the group of 72 some people take 1015 minutes to get there I said why aren't we sitting at the table he says because it's not set up I said well you've had three days to set this table up Friday morning. Husband ,me and friends went yesterday Tues. Nov 7. when walking in it truly felt like home. We were immediately served tortilla chips and yummy salsa. We were all so happy with the food, the opportunity to have a nice visit and the service was the top. food was nice and hot when served the flavors were right on. The RICE though oh boy so darn good! With so many choices in the area, serving good Mexican food, I had never tried Toledo's. Our friend was celebrating her birthday and excitedly chose Toledo's. We fed off this excitement and were truly looking forward to the experience. Responding to the hostess, we explained that we needed a table for six. There were only four of us at the moment. We explained that we wanted to start eating, and the remaining two may likely arrive 30-minutes later. The hostess commented, "I cannot seat you until your entire party arrives." Understanding this type of policy, we tried to clarify, we were hoping to start drinking and eating before the other two arrive. She stated she cannot seat us. So, we stated instead, "Okay! We are a party of FOUR." We were seated at the smallest table they could fit four people into. Then, just to throw salt on our wounds, a party of two was immediately seated eight-feet away from us at a table for SIX!!! I was SO CLOSE to asking for a manager. But, our server showed up. His name is "Rony." He was the only positive to this otherwise incredibly negative dining experience. We explained our situation, and he assisted us to a larger table without hesitation. In the words of every great infomercial, "But, wait... there's more!" Our friends showed up and joined our "larger table." Unfortunately, since we had already ordered, our menus had already been removed. No problem! I will just grab a couple. I approached the front and politely asked the hostess for two menus. While holding a stack in her hand, and shuffling through them in front of me she rolled her eyes and groaned. It was obvious she was trying to think of ANY reason to deny my request. Realizing, I'm sure, there was no way to convince me that it would break some policy she begrudgingly handed me the menus. Our friends, who suggested Toledo's, were shocked and pleaded that they have never experienced this sort of service (or lack thereof) ever before. This visit to Toledo's let me down so bad. I am usually a fan of Toledo's but thanks to this visit, sadly I will not return for the following reasons; Food was cold and when I asked them to please have it warmed up they did and brought it back to me the exact same. I didn't want to make a big deal about it because it was my friend's birthday so I ate it anyway. The camarones a la diabla were sweet and had an insane amount of ketchup on them which I can not tolerate. The rice and beans were very bland. The only thing that was good was the Albondigas which is basically a staple for them. It was great. That and the service was what got 2 stars. Prices are ridiculously high. I understand I'm in Clovis but I've had better food elsewhere for half the price. My daughter and I were on one ticket and my bill came out to $63 and she drank water!! Atmosphere was fine and our server was very friendly. The place is busy. They bring out chips and salsa. I was not a fan of the chips -- they tasted like they were fried in some kind of industrial oil. Their pico de gallo, on the other hand, was VERY fresh and flavorful, albeit too picante for my taste buds. When our combination platters arrived, all three of us noticed that the food wasn't hot. One member of our party was too hungry to send it back, so she ate her lukewarm food. My other friend and I complained to the server, and she took away our dinner plates, ostensibly to make things right. When the new platters arrived (they are unable to simply heat it up, I guess -- probably due to health department rules), that food wasn't hot either! The flavor of everything was fine -- no complaints there. Our server asked if we would like to speak to the manager, and we said yes, but the manager never came over. When we asked her about this, she claimed it was some kind of misunderstanding. She told us that she was going to write up our complaints in some kind of "report." There was no offer of a discount, free dessert or any kind of compensation for our bad experience. We DID ask for her to take the side dishes of sour cream (which were priced at $2 each) off the bill, and she comped those...begrudgingly. I ate my dinner, and my friend took hers in a to-go box to heat it in the microwave back at the hotel. I called in an order for pick up at 6:45 pm tonight. The lady on the phone told me it would be about 20 minutes. When I arrived it was busy and I understand due to covid things have been a bit crazy. I paid and sat down to wait. The lady next to me said she had been waiting over 40 minutes and all she ordered was 2 enchiladas. After 45 minutes of waiting I got up to ask how much longer. It took the lady 5 minutes to come back to tell me it would be another 10 to 15 min. I was not even offered water while I waited, so I paid for something to drink.. I finally received my food at 8pm, an hour and 15 minutes later. I would not have been so upset had I not witnessed the things I did while waiting. I watched an elderly couple wait over 30 minutes to be seated, while others walked in after and were seated right away. I finally got up and mentioned it and then they sat the couple. The couple said they signed in but even if they didn't plenty of employees walked past them and not 1 damn person said "have you 2 been helped". A man who looked to be a manager of some type spent 15 to 20 min taking the lable off a candle and lighting it and then walked past all the waiting customers to place a candle on a table. Another male employee stood around and bitched about work with the female hostess. The biggest thing for me is I watched 2 young girls come in dressed half naked. They sat them right away and I watched them get there drinks and food before I received my food which I ordered 40 minutes before they even walked through the door. I was told the cooks were backed up...ok....well at least prepare the orders as they come in. It was complete bullshit that I waited as long as I did to get dinner for my family, one of them being a young child home sick. We just got home from having dinner at Toledo's. 6 of us and the only one with a take home box was me.... and that was only because the broiled Chicken salad was enough for two people!!! Also and our table we had orders of Tostadas, large combination, 2 item combo, and chili relleno. All was tasty. We were seated and our server took our drink orders and brought chips. We ordered food and it came very fast. Surprised by how fast it came. However my Chile relleno burrito was cold and it took a while for our server to come back to tell her. She did say when she dropped off food she would come right back to fill our waters but that didn't happen. By the time she came back my party was almost done eating so I just opted to have them take it off the bill. The server never gave us our check, just TOLD us our total. I've been coming here since Covid restrictions have been lifted. I've never been disappointed. I usually get their bowl of menudo, but this time tried their chili relleno burrito plate. It came with refried beans and rice which was plenty enough if you wanted to split it between two people or take some home for later. I love chili relleno and was not disappointed with this dish at all. Plenty of chili peppers and stuffed cheese that oozed out when you cut into the burrito. I went with my family just the other day, it wasnt that busy but there was a wait. We ordered two Red Beers. Both costed $10 each, im sorry but wasnt worth it. Tasted very watered down. I had the Sopas and my Husband had the Menudo kids shared chicken strips with fries & beans / rice. My food, the sopas wasnt warm. His menudo had a big piece of fat. Uneatable. Why serve that? Big disappointment today (4/18/24) at lunch! I joined my GF for lunch hungrier than a hippo! Chips were hot and salsa was tasty, my Bloody Mary was refreshing...then came the food. The bread along with the contents looked like it was slapped together blindfolded as the top slice was half on half off the lower slice. It wasn't wrapped up and when I picked up the cut half the contents came sliding out onto my plate. My fries were bland & limp even though they were dusted with seasoning. My friends chili relleno was over-breaded & her taco was 'crappy.' The shell tasted like it came out of a box & the meat was over-spicy. Her words, not mine. I'm only giving 2 yellow stars because her rice and beans were good and flavorful, the drinks were refreshing otherwise I'd give a complete thumbs down on the experience! Used to like going here, but over the years it's gone down hill. This trend of asking for a phone number to be seated is irritating. Not everyone needs my phone number. This last visit we arrived at 5pm and the screen that we now use to check in said 15-22 minute wait. Which was fine, there weren't many people there yet. We got seated within 10 minutes. Looking at the menu it's clear the "nickle and dime" bug has hit. A dollar extra for a chile relleno on the combination plate? Two dollars for sour cream. And the salsa is terrible now. I asked for the hottest available and it had no heat, like they forgot to put in any peppers. Our server was pleasant enough, when we saw him. He went missing for 15 minutes to get the salsa. MIL and her sister ordered chimichangas and were were tripping out that they received two totally different meals. One had overly big chunks of bell pepper and the other no peppers? Very inconsistent. A side of sour cream was $2 and guacamole $4. If our meal was good we wouldn't have cared but all of our dinners were bad.It was really disappointing.
