We got there tonight at 6pm. Seated at 6:20. Waited 30 minutes and no waitstaff came to our table. We approached a waiter Travis and he didn't know who our server was. But he was gracious enough to take our order. By 7:45 no salads. No appetizer. Nothing. We asked for the check for our drinks and left. The music was awesome. Wish we could have stayed but we were hungry! The ambivalence was amazing. But the restaurant management seemed nonexistent. I estimate there were maybe 15 tables..3 servers and one bartender. We are so lucky to have tollbooth around the corner. I just wished we would remember more often that you guys are there. The food's always great we typically do takeout and the food's always fresh. The food was very good didn't have any issues. Appetizers were big portions could have been entrées. My only issue is that we were seated in the back dining hall. the heat wasn't on so we kept our coats on and when we asked to have the heat turned up they tried to turn up the temperature but it remained cold. Food took 35-40 mins to get out to our table.one of my biggest pet peeve's is when appetizers come out at the same time as entrees. My first time eating here ( Toll Booth Tavern "Fine Dining" in Francistown ) tonight and i informed the waitress about that and told her i heard good things. She smiled and said i'm sure you will enjoy it. So I ordered the BBQ bacon burger medium well, sticky fingers, and potatoe skins, and a mai tai. The sticky fingers were very good so i cant complain about those however that's where the good stops. With a new restaurant i visit i give them three strikes and i don't go back if they strikeout. Maybe they just cant handle being busy or I'm not sure why they screwed up badly tonight but being a first time customer and knowing that because i told them i was.. you would think they would at least try to make good food. Strike 1. I ordered a medium well and when the burger came and it was pink and very soft pretty much rare and cold. I hate pink meat i like it cooked and mine definitely was not. When she brought a replacement burger back the bacon was as limp it looked like a used trojan and they did not include the fries that's supposed to come with the burger! Strike 2. The drink (Mai Tai) was waaay to strong i don't drink at home at all but occasionally i like a drink when i go out for dinner but this one was pure alcohol. I'm sure some people would of enjoyed that but not me as I'm not an alcoholic. Strike 3. The potatoe skins were barely warm almost like they microwaved it but to my amazement the sour cream that came with them was frozen solid. I asked her for some fresh sour cream and she brought it. I should of asked for her to have my potatoes heated up some more from chef "mic" Strike 4. I ordered a plate of food for my wife to go as she was not with me and my company tonight. I ordered her the Chicken Piccata. When i took it home to her and opened it we were shocked.. The pasta looked like boxed macaroni from Market Basket and with it a tiny piece of chicken. She bit into it and immediately spit it out and said that it was chewy and tasted like it was past its expiration date by days. This made me furious as they charged us 18 dollars for that sad excuse for a plate. Side note my Father ate here once and got a piece of fish which he enjoyed but it gave him a sick stomach for 2 days ish. While sitting in the restaurant i overheard another customer saying that last time he got the fish it made him sick as well.. Bottom line here is i really think they cant handle being busy and they probably need to have the board of health take a look in their kitchen because I'm pretty sure they will find subpar food and or expired food. First ever 1-star review, but I would have to say the employees, especially the manager were rude and/or insulting. Using foul language in front of my 5 & 9 year old. Food was already a 3/5, just mediocre pub food. I wouldn't leave a negative review if it weren't for the ignorance of kids being around. Ok what a find! This like the name says is a Tavern, another name for a bar. This one is over 300 years old and happens to sit on a dirt road that was one of New England's original toll roads connecting Boston to Montreal. Best menu description I have is "Elevated" bar food. The Tavern caters to a loyal local community of loggers, farmers and wandering golfers. Food is local! plentiful! and affordable I couldn't finish my $18 HUGE fish and chips! Staff is friendly, but the best thing about this place is the locals! Our most recent visit to the Toll Booth tavern was enjoyable. Nice outside seating and friendly service. The food is somewhere between pub food and American classics. It is solid fare. We had some wings which were good. Scallops were small, but well seared. Salad was fresh. My wife's salmon was too well done. Sides were solid. This is not a place to go to for something new or out of the ordinary, but a safe bet for things you already like. read more

The atmosphere is great, particularly in the winter because I'm not a golfer and relate better to the ski crowd from Crotched mountain. The food is consistently good and the variety of dishes is perfect. My only issue is with the acoustics in the tavern. If the place is any more than half full, the sound is deafening and it is impossible to carry on a conversation. The staff here must have hearing damage. read more

Although loud this is a great place for live music and a drink/food. We got nachos, I think as nachos go they were decent, drinks were ok too, not the best of worst we have had. The music was really good but so so loud, you can probably hear it from any where in the place. There was a decent space for get togethers but not much space for dancing where the music is only the bar and high tops. Our waitress was pretty nice about the fact that I wasn't getting drinks only water. There are a couple TVs in the bar for watching the game, overall a decent space for enjoying the 19th hole or a music venue. read more

Had a great meal here recently after a long day of skiing at the nearby Crotched Mountain. The building is on a golf course and is not visible from the "main" road, press on, you are almost there. We sat in the tavern/bar area which was comfortable and the service was polite and prompt. It was a Friday night and there was band bits set up so I was a bit afraid that it was going to be loud. We sat 2 tables away from the band and it was not too loud. Well planned sound. 10 beers on tap, most micro :) Full bar Interesting specials, the two that we tried were very good. Salmon and chicken something or other with crab other good stuff. Others at our table had some standard sandwiches and burgers, cooked as ordered. We absolutely loved it. We got a bunch of apps, and they were all amazing. I must try spinach dip wherever I go, and this cream cheese-based dip was simply fantastic. We also got a bowl of chili to split, and some potato skins. All great. I got the eggplant parm, and it's truly enough for 3 meals. My husband got the scallops and he loved them. The historic house is soooo pretty, and you really want to believe it's haunted! Or at least I do! Our server, Madison, was so attentive and great and the chef, Rick, made delicious food. We ate outdoors on the patio here( Thursday night, mid-October) and enjoyed it. The food was decent, typical bar food (nothing super special). My reason for 4 stars is that it was freezing outside after the sun went down, and we did have one of those heat lamp things next to us - but after many requests to turn it on, and even trying for ourselves to get it running, we sat out there freezing cold for most of our dinner without the lamp :( read more

We had dinner three times while we stayed at our condo. The food was excellent and surpassed what we thought it would be. The atmosphere was pleasant. We enjoyed drinks & dinner on the deck. Our table overlooked the 18th hole. Service was excellent except 1 evening. We decided to try again. We were glad we did. Steak Tips, chili, haddock, crispy chicken salad, and Caesar salad are the meals we had. Highly recommend. read more

Union Leader 'Gourmet' gave a very good review recently which encouraged us to make the drive out here today. Worth the trip! Service definitely gets 5*s (thanks Angela!), ambiance etc. 5, price/value 5, food gets a 4 ... sauce and caramelized onions on sandwiches could have been more flavorful. I absolutely envision a trip back soon to include a round of golf!! Golf Course looked awesome - played it last circa 1984 . . . The 'new' owner, Dan stopped by our table today - really nice guy BTW, and he told me they had removed 100's of trees (finding 100's of my little innocent golf balls) . . . Dan assured me the Donald Ross course was still challenging and gorgeous albeit more friendly than the last time I played it . . . which I will do soon, including another visit to the Toll Booth Tavern! And, I want to add that the menu looks amazing and has insured my wife and I will head there for dinner in the near future. But I got a Cesar salad to-go for my girlfriend and when I got home I realized I payed 13 dollars for lettuce and Parmesan.. and they forgot the dressing.... Apparently if you are getting married there, the restaurant brings in a decent chef. Wow - this was up there in the top 2 worst meals EVER. There were 6 people in our party and we were all so disappointed. The clam chowder was tasteless and pasty. The fried tomatoes and mozzarella were well presented but also totally tasteless. I kept looking for the tomatoes until I realized they were so pale that they were the same color as the breading. They were served with approximately 1 Tbl. pesto sauce on top. I ended up dipping them in ketchup just to get some flavor. The fish & chips (which we renamed "whale & chips" because of the HUGE piece of fish) was also totally without taste. How can you mess up fish & chips... in New England nonetheless?! The coup de gras was the "sirloin steak salad". A 6" plate was presented with chunks of steak. Period. When we questioned this and asked where the 'salad' part was, the waitress said "That's it". When we pressed and said this wasn't what we remembered from the menu, she proceeded to argue with us, and didn't want to take it back or inquire further. Finally we asked for the menu, read the description of the "salad" out loud, and she reluctantly went back to the kitchen. One minute later she came out with the big bowl of salad. A waitress that argues with it's customer and doesn't want to rectify a mistake? Shame on you. I hear this restaurant used to be wonderful when it was Malarky's. Too bad. Toll Booth Tavern is a step up from its poor predecessor, Malarkey's. I live 2 minutes away and have eaten here 4 times in the last year. The service has been fantastic each time (perhaps a byproduct of there being very few other customers) and the atmosphere much improved over the overpriced pub that was Malarkey's. Despite its improvements, the food does not meet the standards you'd expect from the rest of the restaurant. For example, the chili suffered from an abundance of nutmeg that was so strong that I couldn't finish the small bowl. I also ordered a burger cooked medium, but received medium rare. The fries were delicious and my children loved the mac and cheese. read more
