I've been a lifelong Valvoline IOC customer, but their service has been degrading fast the past few years; coming to Tolsdorf's was a much better experience than anything I've had with VIOC in years. They were actually fast, courteous, and their waiting line (I was able to drive right in because they have 3 bays vs always 2 at VIOC) was much better setup and organized. My fiancée went to get his oil changed and was not told upfront how much it would be and before he knew it, they were already doing his oil change, and he didn't have time to tell them NO he didn't want it done by them. Thats so unprofessional in my opinion!! How do you run a business without the customer getting the information needed before the oil change? This was my first time going here. I was way past due for an oil change and had been unable to make an appointment due to a busy work schedule. When I finally had a small block of time, I went here. No appointment required. The service was very fast and professional. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. They even vacuumed my car, which is always a treat. I appreciate their speed and service. My reservation was the cost. My car isn't anything fancy or high performance. They only offer synthetic oil, which bumps the price of the oil change up significantly. After many years of going elsewhere for oil changes, I decided to try Tolsdorf. Their price was not the lowest (pretty close, though), but the convenience and lack of hassles makes it a great choice! I recently had a need for a battery replacement in a Ford Escape. These are a bear to replace, as it involves removing an air filter assemble and takes a good amount of time and effort. I checked around and everywhere else was charging a lot of extra money to cover the labor. I priced a battery itself and considered installing it myself, but did not look forward to the work involved. I got a quote from Tolsdorf, and surprisingly, it was the same price as my purchasing the battery alone. I called back to double-check, and it was still the same. Had the battery replaced today. I don't think I will ever go anywhere else to get my oil change. I never knew that getting your oil changed could be this easy! I had a coupon for $26.99 which included an Oil Change and multi-point vehicle inspection. They even took the time to vacuum out my car and top off the fluids (wind shield wiper, power steering, etc.) at no charge! What a great deal and out in no more than 15 minutes. My only hint of advice for next time is to let them know up front that you don't want them to take out your air filter and cabin filter (unless you want them to change it out for you). This is where they try to catch you on an up-sell at outrageous prices! With that in mind, don't hesitate to bring your car here. I'm new to the area & 100% clueless when it comes to my car. Thankfully I found this place! The staff at Tolsdorf was courteous and professional. Prices are comparable to the large chains, complete with great coupons and offers. However, they beat the big guys when it comes to convenience and customer relations. I was in and out in under 30 minutes for an oil change, transmission fluid and tire rotation. Not to mention the cleanliness of their waiting area is fantastic, compared to the other guys. I stopped in previously to get my oil changed several times with no issues. My recent visit was for a new battery since I was told when I got my last oil change in August that I was as at 50% with my battery. At that time I was told the battery replacement would be $135 but when I returned it was $145. I sent an email to express my concern about the cost, fact that I didn't get a discount on my old battery which was unusual because other places will give you a discount on your battery when it's at 50% and the immediate response from Vince was no apology just telling me that I could return to have my old battery re-installed (since they still had it) and they would refund me for the new battery. Seriously...The amount of business I've given this location and this is the response I get is beyond ridiculous and unprofessional. This will be the very last time I give this place my money because clearly being a loyal customer doesn't mean anything to them. Unbelievable. Routinely overfill oil. Check it after they are finished!!! Tolsdorf's mechanics have overfilled the oil in my car multiple times, as well as other family members' cars. Last time I went to Tolsdorf, I checked my oil level immediately after they changed it and discovered that it was overfull. I notified their customer service guy, and he told me that it was "really not that bad." This is very disappointing, coming from a professional oil change facility. Over-full oil adds substantial stress to the gaskets and seals that keep an engine from leaking, because too much oil results in too much oil pressure. It will reduce the life your vehicle's engine over time. I called the owner of the franchise, Chris Tolsdorf, and told him personally on the phone about my experience. He completely blew me off. Other things that the guys at Tolsdorf say that are good for their business but bad for their customers: "Your differential oil should be changed every 15,000 miles." This is false. The industry standard is 50,000 miles. The mechanics at Tolsdorf also pulled my air filter out and showed it to me, telling me that it was dirty and needed to be changed. It was not nearly dirty enough to warrant replacement, and had a lot of life left in it. Bottom line: the guys at Tolsdorf look out for themselves, at the expense (literally) of their customers. If you go there, check your oil level as soon as they're finished and make sure it's not over filled. read more

I never take my car to get serviced outside the dealership I bought it from. However the dealership was fully booked this week and I desperately needed to get an oil change before my weekend trip. I researched and read the reviews before I went here and I have to say they were awesome! They don't take appointments so I went during my lunch break and surprised it was not busy at all. With 15 mins my oil change was done along with all the extra services they throw in (like vacuum and windshield cleaning) what really impressed me is that the guys were very nice and not intimidating. They seem to love to work there and the cars they work on. I recently got my entire front end repaired and apparently that shop did not secure my battery on. The guys here made sure to make me aware of it and bolted it back into place for me. I will go here again no questions asked!! read more

I have been here twice. The service people are less than friendly and treat you with an attitude each time you walk in. They do very little to help you out with getting checked in and then try and sell you on $1000 worth of work your car doesn't need. If you can get your oil changed elsewhere do it. read more

The oil change was quick, thankfully! BUT I called beforehand to ask what my total price would be. They asked my make, model, and year of my car. I gave it to them and they gave me a price. They were only $5 more than another quick shop I called but this was supposed to include a quick vacuuming so I went with them. After it was done it was $8 more than I was quoted because it needed more oil and a filter (I just had the filter changed a couple months ago AND they should have known by my model that I needed more oil than their "regular price", otherwise why ask the make and model). I paid it and left, then once I got home I realize it wasnt vacuumed AT ALL even though I specifically asked if it was. Really bummed. I wont be back. read more

Not overly impressed by the service provided at this location, but they're okay! I needed to get an oil change in the Exton area and did a simple google search to find the best deal at a reputable place. I had been to Tolsdorf maybe (8-9) years ago so it was one that I trusted. I found a coupon for Tolsdorf online (one of the Google sponsored ads) for a 19.99 oil change. So I decided to go back to them. When i handed the coupon prior to service (as required on the page), I was told that the 19.99 deal is purely for an oil change and they would not vacuum the car, add other fluids, or do anything else. This kind of seems lame, considering other places will do the full service for the same price (with a coupon). What makes them better than most is the fact they're relatively honest. Every time I have gone for an oil change they always tell me I need a new air filter / cabin filter / windshield wipers etc. These guys are one of the first to come out and tell me that everything looks okay... This is the ONLY place I go for "oil and lube". They're fast and professional and friendly, and although they suggest maintenance items or work that might be needed, they don't apply pressure. One time, the manager even performed a maintenance job that they do not advertise, and charged very little for it. I rarely go to dealership, and when I must, go to AAA, but Tolsdorf is THE PLACE for oil changes and light maintenance. Period!! read more

First time customer. I spent 28 years in the Army and Preventive Maintenance Checks & Services (PMCS) was important. So I expected zero defects from Tolsdorf for something they specialize in and I generally do myself. Isolated incident from a customer never using their services? Judge for yourself. I was also offered an air filter replacement at something like $23.00. No thanks. The automotive store across the street sell them for $14.00. That's a huge mark-up even with five minutes of labor (timed myself). read more

I have been a customer of Tolsdorf, Exton for at least 20 yrs. Typically great experience every time I go in. The employee working the counter today was rude and very unprofessional. Most of the guys are professional and courteous. The guy working the counter Wed Feb 25th at 5:00pm will lose business for Tolsdorf. Absolutely horrible customer service!! I run a large contracting company in Exton. I have referred people to Tolsdorf in the past . I will take my business elsewhere and I will caution people to avoid this place due to the immature, bad attitude employee that represents the company at the front counter.
