I have to say, my wife and I have been long-time customers at Tom and Jerry's in Rockford and Machesney Park. We have not visited here for about 8-9 months due to travel, but we went for dinner at the Rockford location on September 27, 2021, at about 5:30 pm. I would have preferred to send an e-mail to the owner, but there is no contact via e-mail on any of their sites. My usual order is the Gyro Plate with salad and my wife orders the Chicken sandwich on a pita. I ordered the King Gyro Plate. We sat down for our order to be finished and noticed that all the employees were laughing and yelling out loud in an unreasonable tone that carried through the restaurant. When our food was brought, I had no salad and we had no silverware. When asked about the silverware, the counter person was surprised there were none out and he had to scramble and look for some plastic ware that was mismatched and not individually wrapped. The drink machine gave us both the wrong drinks (the orders were totally different) and the counter person stated they were all out of onion rings also. All in all, a disappointing experience. Attempted to order a meal that was over $40. 00 for myself and family, I asked for water and they wanted to charge me for water as I do not drink pop. Failed the concept of keeping a customer and making a sale but earn a loss in customer. You don't charge for a cup of water. Dont be so cheap. This is solely rated for the gyros. It's half the size of Uncle Nicks. The bread is stale. Uncle Nicks bread taste fresh and buttery. The meat here is salty (to me). The portion size of the sandwich itself is half of the other restaurant. I was disappointed. I hope their other did will be better. Reminder for me not to order gyros here. Every time I come to Rockford I just HAVE to eat something from here. Their gyro's are amazing and big. It is packed with a lot of meat and to me this is the best gyro I've ever had (anywhere). Their italian beef sandwich and reubens are also great. They also have some cheese fries which go pretty good with any choice above. If you are looking for a great lunch you have to try this place. I ate here today for lunch. I ordered the Chicago style dog with everything on it and fries. The dog was good Vienna beef and the veggies were fresh and tasted good. The fries were just OK, nothing too special here. It is located right next to another hot dog joint called Nick's, but I chose Tom & Jerry's cause of the name. I was happy enough with my choice, but it wouldn't keep me from trying the neighbor next trip out to Rockford. Two months ago we got the gyros because we loved them but they were horrible! So today we decided to give them a second chance. We got the two ny steak sandwiches what a waste of money. The steaks had so much gristle and ligaments and tough that they were inedibl, the onions were big and had no favor, the bread was so rubbery that I couldn't eat it. The ownership is what makes Tom & Jerry's such a huge hit. I will not eat at a restaurant that is not clean and this place is very clean. I have eaten at all three restaurants in the Rockford area and the staff has always been accommodating and friendly. The quality of the food is excellent and the quantity is more than ample. I wish this place was closer to home for me the price is right and they deliver for those of you who live in the immediate area. They're good, but recently (as in, last 4 times I've come here) they've cut back on how many onions you get on your euro, and tomato slices are about 30% thinner without any more being added, so total 30% loss. I liked the old proportions better. Anyway, environment is dead on average. Like, dead-on-average, but clean. If you like euros, this is *the* place. Haven't tried their other things because everything else on their menu is done phenomenally well by other venues I like around RFD. read more

If I could leave no stars I would. we have ordered from here all the time for the past 6 years and their food is usually pretty decent but the past couple of times that we have ordered from here we have had issues with not getting all of our food with our order. The manager has not tried to rectify the issue and this last time we were lied to stating that the delivery driver was at our front door knocking when they really weren't because we were sitting outside. It took them almost 2 hours to deliver our food and the top it all off all of the food was ice cold. I will never order from here again nor will I go out of my way to go to the restaurant either. I do really like Tom & Jerry's. They have a very diverse menu and there is always something for everyone. Their food is consistently good and fresh and hot. I've never been there and seen a dirty table or floor. The kids they employ are all super friendly and nice. So why the 4 star status? Well, I wish they were a little quicker. Ok, so their gyros are pretty damn good. And I was always obsessed with Uncle Nick's. One night, Uncle Nick's was closed so I went here. YUMMY! Everything was better, the meat was better, the sauce was better, and they put tomatoes on their gyros. The bread is where Uncle Nick's is better, since it's like they fry it, where at Tom and Jerry's, it's only steamed. They need to take tips from each other. Just got back from Tom & Jerry's. Must say, we're not impressed. $2.49 corn dog, which I could have bought a box of six for about $6.00. (State Fair corn dogs.) Chicken strip salad which was mostly cucumber & tomato. Cheese fries. Definitely not fresh cut potatoes and definitely the bottled fake cheese sauce. The turkey club was pretty good, but despite everything else negative we also sat in the drive through for 12 minutes. There was only one car ahead of us and almost no one in the parking lot. Tom and Jerry's is easily one of the worst (non-national chain) fast food restaurants in Rockford. That isn't saying there are really any good ones, but Tom and Jerry's is shockingly sub-par in every aspect. The chicken breast was unbelievably dry, the salad dressing was awful, and the restaurant as a whole was dirty, and unappetizing. Tom & jerry's is one of my favorite places in rockford! I still prefer uncle nick's gyro's but tom & jerry's is very good as well. Their fries are thick crinkle cut! I always ask for these to be well done because sometimes they do not fry them long enough or they are a little soggy. They do not salt their fries which I also love. The food was good today, but I have more of a legal concern. The combined sales tax rate for Rockford, IL is 8.25%. This is the total of state, county and city sales tax rates. The Illinois state sales tax rate is currently 6.25%. The Winnebago County sales tax rate is 1%. Rockford sales tax rate is 1%. Why is the Rockford Tom and Jerry's store charging their customers 9.25% sales tax?? Where is the extra 1% revenue going? A business that charges its customers too much sales tax could be opening itself up to a class-action lawsuit. read more

We are from Wisconsin and this is the first time we have eaten here and it was terrible. We ordered a half rack of ribs and a gyros, the gyros was alright but the ribs were disgusting, literaly, I am a rib lover and these ribs were in the category of dog food not for human consumption if you catch my drift. I wanted a refund, the manager said you ate some of it therefore you bought it. I pulled the leathery skin off of it asking does this look acceptable to you, it looks like it has been microwaved 5 times before you served it. Thought I'd try out the new Tom and Jerry's location in Belvidere Illinois well ordering service was decent and the girls were friendly waited 19 minutes for my order in the drive-through when I casually mentioned it to the gentleman as he handed me my food very briskly he explained that they were very busy but as I was leaving the parking lot I pulled around front there was one vehicle in the driveway I got out walked up to the window and not one person was sitting in the dining room . I feel that I'm an understanding person because I work in the service business but that is bad business when somebody can disapprove your lie immediately. Great for fast food. Always served fresh and hot! I always get the gyros plate with extra peppers and no pita and give the fries to my family. It also comes with a salad. Works great for gluten free meals. My husband likes the Italian beef the best, but he also likes the meatball sandwich. I would recommend this one to anyone that wants to get something quick, but still have a decent atmosphere to sit and eat. There is fountain pop, and desserts if you have room after you finish your meal. I did not care too much for the cream of broccoli soup, it had too much flour or something in it. You're not going to find a place like this outside the Midwest, and not just because they sell the Chicago favorites like Italian beef and dogs that have been dragged through the garden. Rather, the sense of community that permeated Tom and Jerry's was palpable during my visit - a mishmash of family and friends, folks that were on their lunch breaks, old friends catching up, and parents taking their kids to get something to eat. The menu attempts to please everyone, offering everything from pizza to gyros, and I think that affects the quality a bit in the long run - as evidenced by my hot beef sandwich, which was good, but came with the au jus and giardiniera in little cups on the side, presumably for the ease of use for those going through the drive through. Once everything was on the sandwich it was the messy experience you would expect from one that was dipped, but still a bit lacking. It's to be expected, I suppose, though it didn't seem like anyone seemed to mind - this is the type of place that has been around forever and will remain a quintessential neighborhood hangout for long after I get in my car and drive away. read more

Was in the Rockford area for my daughter's softball tournament this past weekend. Her game finished around 8 pm, and we were hungry. Against my better judgement, we gave this place a try. Being from the Chicago area, I know you really can't get a good Chicago dog or Italian beef sandwich outside of the immediate Chicago area. Yet here we were 2 hours outside of the city, hungry as hell. Knowing the beef and dogs would probably suck, we both went with what I thought would be a safe bet - cheeseburgers. The burgers were dry and tasteless. Not a single drop of juice remained in the patty. The fries were very generic. With as hungry as we were, even a crappy burger should have tasted good.. In retrospect, we should have just eaten the box of Triscuits we brought with us. Even the cardboard box would have been tastier than that burger. If we are ever back in the area, I will avoid Tom & Jerry's at all costs. read more
