This place was super cute. Not my typical place due to dietary restrictions but we are from out of town and met with 10 family members who rave about this place. I called and they told me their options which is great when they know. Everyone was very informative and friendly. I was able to get some modified oatmeal and home fries, which were great. Every single person finished their meal and seemed very happy. Some got the special, some got salad, omelets and everyone was pleased. The decor was entertaining for my little one and he loved how everyone's coffee mug was different. His grandpa had Mario and Luigi. Perfect little diner for family and friends. On our way to Kansas City from Omaha we decided to stop in Glenwood for breakfast. Tom and Tiff's is a local diner and you can tell it has been there for a long time (in a good way!). I had one of the items from the lighter menu and it was still a lot of food. My hash browns were nice and crispy and eggs cooked to a perfect over medium. Pancakes were delicious too. The service was great and the servers were very attentive. My 5 year ols son asked why they kept asking if we wanted coffee every couple of mins. Lol. First, I have to say I was ecstatic they had chicken Livers, which is (odd, I know) my favorite. We thought we would try out this little spot. My wife saw that Robert Patrick (Terminator 2 liquid villain) had stopped by there recently and raved about it. We both got their fried chicken dinner, and it was quite good! Wish I could give negative stars. seriously this place is mediocre at best and the service is horrible. It had been years since I had been here but the only thing I had noticed that changed was the salad bar is no longer there. My husband had an omelet, I had the hot beef and can't remember what my son had because I didn't try it. Lol. My husband's omelet with Pancakes was very good, my hot beef was great just lacking a little flavor, weather it be salt n pepper or some sort of seasoning in the gravy. I really liked this this place. This is your above average mom and pop type restaurant. The staff was super friendly. The waitress recommended the hot beef sandwich and their onion rings. I have to tell you that the hot beef sandwich with mashed potatoes was awesome. The gravy was good the actual beef was awesome and the mashed potatoes were great. This isn't fancy, it's good old fashioned diner food. The best hash browns I've ever had, crispy on both sides! Fluffy pancakes, biscuits and gravy and jalapeño bacon. After having read the reviews here on yelp - we had to stop in to have dinner and try the pie. The cafe has the look and feel of a regular small town diner, the waitresses were pleasant and efficient (went twice before writing this review). Overall the food was okay to good - hand-pattied hamburgers, and several other home made diner type meals. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the mashed potatoes were instant, and the fries are crinkle cut frozen - so you might want to asked whether an item is freshly made or a reheated processed food. My husband said his GRILLED pork tenderloin sandwich was very tasty (they have a fried version as well) - although the sides we ordered were just okay. I had the burger - like my husband's the meat was good - Ore-ida fries were okay. Overall, the food was average - not bad, not great - some bright spots, usually pork or meat related items (Iowa has a lot of pork producers), most everything else was okay. As for the pie, we specifically ask if the pie was homemade (as a previous yelp reviewer had said), our waitress said, "it's homemade, but it's not made here!" I asked if it was "made-homemade" elsewhere, she said yes, they are made special for the diner, "just not here," she said. They had several fruit pie options and a couple cake options too - also "homemade" per the waitress. We were a table of 6, so we ended up ordering several different flavors of pie and one slice of cake - the pies were NOT homemade, neither was the cake. My son did say the pecan pie was good. The crusts were very uniform, industrial looking - the look of deli-mass produced pies. The carrot cake tasted like the bargain carrot cake from any super market, NOTHING special! The frosting had a hard outer surface - probably indicating it had been around for a while. We decided the breakfast menu had possibilities so we went back for breakfast the next morning - the coffee was bitter (although the locals didn't seem to notice - thee waitress filled their cups several times), and their bread products were generic bread quality (probably get them from the same place they buy their pies). Again, the meats made the meal, the ham was great, as was the "really" homemade corned beef hash. My husband said all in all he thought it was "good." As for me, after having read the other reviews, I expected more. Still, it was an okay diner - would I go back? Sure, especially if I am hankering for a pork dish or good hamburger. Ultimately the food is "okay to good" depending on what you order - the desserts probably not worth the calories. read more

The food is pretty good, even though the place is a bit run down. The service is fair to good depending on the time of day. The booths are old and sunk in, but it is typical for the era of this type of diner .. .so the chairs and tables are a better way to go. Once you get past the atmosphere, or lack of ... and you get to the food, then things brighten up. I love their breakfasts here, they give you a decent size meal for a fair price. Their burgers are pretty good, the other sandwiches on the menu are also good, but the real claim to fame of this place is their broasted/fried chicken, mmmmm .... it is tasty. Oh and the pies and other desserts are good .... and they are in the little carousel so you can pick out the one you like. If you like diners and cafes, this one is a pretty good one. read more

Happened on this place on the way to another boring Casey's saturated fat laden hockey puck (sausage/egg muffin type deal) when I saw Tom & Tiff's. I thought I'd seen a review somewhere so I stopped. 2 slices of french toast,2 perfectly cooked over easy eggs and 3 sausage links for under 6 bucks? Moved to Iowa to work for the summer and I'm staying in Glenwood. Had a few people recommend the place and have to say it is good! Has a very big menu with plenty of options and great food! I have now been there twice and have had chicken fried steak once, and a bacon cheese burger the other time. Both were perfectly cooked and very good! Waitresses have always been very nice! Its never packed in there so you'll never worry about being neglected. read more

Ok, call me jaded but after reading the reviews of this place I felt the need to speak up and advise people on the best meal there is in that little restaurant. The broasted chicken is to die for. This is as good as it gets in that small town. Yes I grew up there but when I visit both my husband and I have to go there to get it. He is from California and agrees that it is the best for miles in the midwest. The burgers are good too, and while I would like to see my fries homemade or real mashed potatoes this place does what almost every other restururant in the business does they cheat a little bit and use processed foods. This diner's staff are always friendly and they make you time there a pleasant experience and I would challenge anyone to tell me where they can get a better deal on the meal. read more

We came here on the recommendations from some locals. We were in the area from Omaha for the day. I was a tiny bit skeptical when we walked in and weren't even sure they were even open, no cars in the parking lot, no patrons at 2:30 on a Saturday. We seated ourselves and were shortly greeted by our server. We asked for some recommendations, which we followed. Homemade onion rings were thick and delicious and very hot! My Reuben had tons of corned beef and the bread was nicely toasted on what I can assume was the grill top, plenty of sour kraut and 1,000 island on the side. Fries were just frozen crinkle cut but they were crispy and hot. The fiancée had the special, which was chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes both topped with country gravy and canned green beans ( did we expect anything more, no!) the potatoes were instant but the CFS and country gravy were pretty good. The star of the show didn't show their faces until we got home. We ordered two slices if pie to go because we were too stuffed. Coconut meringue and banana cream. We each got one we knew the other hated, as not to have to share. I can't speak for the yucky banana cream, but the coconut meringue was ridiculous! The crust was thick and flaky. The meringue was tall and fluffy, and the coconut cream was not too over-coconutty. There was a delightful little sprinkle of toasted coconut on top. All in all, it was a very nice experience, I'd go back just for the pie (the 4th star is just for those sweet slices)!! read more

Very disappointed with my first trip to Tom & Tiff's - we came to eat at around 5:00 p.m. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion and a side of French fries. When the plate arrived, the fries were cold, the bun was cold and the hamburger was small. You are charged an additional 35 cents for the lettuce, tomato, onion. Never once did anyone come back and ask if our order was okay, but the people around us were asked. The waitress took my plate away and didn't bother to inquire as to why the fries were untouched, so I am sure she knew of the issue. When we went to check out(after leaving our payment on the table for the waitress to take for 10 minutes) we had to wait nearly 10 minutes to pay. They had only one phone line and were busy taking orders rather than waiting on existing customers. What kind of a business can't afford two phone lines? The pie display was rather scary, probably some of the product needed to be thrown out. We won't be going back any time soon. read more
