After having read the reviews here on yelp - we had to stop in to have dinner and try the pie. The cafe has the look and feel of a regular small town diner, the waitresses were pleasant and efficient (went twice before writing this review). Overall the food was okay to good - hand-pattied hamburgers, and several other home made diner type meals. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the mashed potatoes were instant, and the fries are crinkle cut frozen - so you might want to asked whether an item is freshly made or a reheated processed food. My husband said his GRILLED pork tenderloin sandwich was very tasty (they have a fried version as well) - although the sides we ordered were just okay. I had the burger - like my husband's the meat was good - Ore-ida fries were okay. Overall, the food was average - not bad, not great - some bright spots, usually pork or meat related items (Iowa has a lot of pork producers), most everything else was okay. As for the pie, we specifically ask if the pie was homemade (as a previous yelp reviewer had said), our waitress said, "it's homemade, but it's not made here!" I asked if it was "made-homemade" elsewhere, she said yes, they are made special for the diner, "just not here," she said. They had several fruit pie options and a couple cake options too - also "homemade" per the waitress. We were a table of 6, so we ended up ordering several different flavors of pie and one slice of cake - the pies were NOT homemade, neither was the cake. My son did say the pecan pie was good. The crusts were very uniform, industrial looking - the look of deli-mass produced pies. The carrot cake tasted like the bargain carrot cake from any super market, NOTHING special! The frosting had a hard outer surface - probably indicating it had been around for a while. We decided the breakfast menu had possibilities so we went back for breakfast the next morning - the coffee was bitter (although the locals didn't seem to notice - thee waitress filled their cups several times), and their bread products were generic bread quality (probably get them from the same place they buy their pies). Again, the meats made the meal, the ham was great, as was the "really" homemade corned beef hash. My husband said all in all he thought it was "good." As for me, after having read the other reviews, I expected more. Still, it was an okay diner - would I go back? Sure, especially if I am hankering for a pork dish or good hamburger. Ultimately the food is "okay to good" depending on what you order - the desserts probably not worth the calories.

We were seated right away, and it was a perfect day to sit outside. The hostess let us know they had workers outside, but we were totally okay with the noise, which ended up being very minimal. We didn't order any drinks, but for food, I decided to try the birria grilled cheese, which comes with one side, and I chose fries. Not only did it look so appetizing, but it tasted AMAZING. The bread had some sort of seasoning on it that added so much flavor to the sandwich. The fries were seasoned exceptionally well too. I'll definitely be back sometime soon to try more items. The food today was 10/10, and our waitress was very kind and attentive as well.

The food had a…read morelot of promise, though a few dishes felt like they were just slightly off from being great. I had the Cubano sandwich, which was good overall, especially the smoky meat, but I think the coarse-ground mustard overpowered the flavours a bit and dulled the smokiness a bit. A plain yellow mustard might balance the sandwich better and let the smokiness shine through more. The sweet potato fries, however, were excellent. My wife Laura ordered Emily's Salad, which was pleasant and fresh, though we both thought it could have benefited from a little crunch--maybe some seeds or nuts added in. Our daughter Alex had the birria tacos and carne asada fries. The tacos were tasty, though a little on the small side, but the carne asada fries were fantastic. Umai! (I am a Rengoku fan; if you know, you know.) I highly recommend it. Our other daughter, Sam, ordered the birria grilled cheese and elote fries, and both were really good. Her cherryade was especially refreshing. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, though the dining area and patio felt a bit bare. A few plants outside and inside would really warm the place up and give it more character. The music was pretty good with indie hits in there. I also tried the Old Fashioned. It was definitely strong, which I appreciated, but it felt like it was missing a touch of sweetness or something to round it out. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves, and I'd absolutely go back and try more on the menu. Their waitstaff was top-notch and really were on their game. The restaurant has good ingredients and solid ideas--it just feels like a few flavour balances could be dialed in a little more.

Warm and inviting interior, with nice booth/table seating, at counter ordering, and friendly local clientele. 3. Before Covid timber's restaurant was the best. They had a great buffet, and their meals, even though expensive were worth it. My family and I and our adult kids all went over July 4 weekend. We had a terrific time except for the Timber's restaurant. The food was terrible.. there were 12 of us, and although the service was five stars, we couldn't believe the quality of the food. Not one of us had a good meal, which I know seems hard to believe. I will give one example... Two eggs, potatoes, and bacon. $22. We asked for the eggs over medium and they came over hard. They apologized and brought us two more eggs, both over hard again. Should be simple to make eggs... And why $22? At dinner a couple of my boys ordered steaks medium rare. They were delivered medium well... both of their steaks were overcooked. It was $35 for a piece of meat that was overcooked and the sides were extra. For what they charge at Timbers, you would think you were getting a great meal, but that's not the case. We couldn't eat our deviled eggs; it tasted like an ingredient had expired? We never return food, but we had to send this back. I'm not sure what happened, but five years ago, the restaurant was great. Now it is honestly terrible and overpriced. Timber's, seriously, you need to look at your menu, hire better cooks, and charge a fair price. The Lied Lodge is so great and your staff is terrific, but your restaurant can be better.
