I am not a mechanic but try my best to perform basic maintenance on my '06 Frontier (and before that my '95 Toyota P/U). I used to take my Toyota to another shop in town for all my major repairs/services with no complaints. However, one day I decided to try out Tom Frost because apparently my Grandfather, a retired Air Force A-1 / KC-97 pilot, swore by them. After my first invoice I immediately realized that their labor rates were far less expensive than the other shop, without sacrificing customer service or competent mechanics. Later on, the head gaskets on my Toyota blew - a truck which I've had since I learned to drive (I am now 27). It had 187,000 miles and had recently replaced the radiator, the entire brake system, and front suspension - I was convinced that if I invested the money to get a new gasket, the truck could last another 100,000 miles - I just didn't want to let my truck die, it meant too much to me. Suffice to say, I was ready to drop the $1400 quoted by Firestone. Before I could make that decision official, Dave (the owner), took me aside and explained that there was significant risk to replacing the gaskets. As he explained, the other components within the engine still had 187,000 miles on them and chances are they would not be able to handle the increase in compression (brought on by a new gasket). Perhaps the truck would last another 100,000, or maybe it would last 100 miles before breaking down. It was a scenario that he had dealt with many times in the years he'd been in the business. I was in awe. Here is a man trying to run a business - in a rough economy - who was more interested in saving me money rather than making himself, his business, easy money off of a kid who knows very little about mechanics. I gratefully listened to his words of warning and decided to sell the Toyota before buying an '06 Frontier (which I am extremely pleased with). While I miss my old truck, I do not have any doubts about my ultimate decision because I trusted Dave's years of experience...and his honesty. In the end, his mechanics are people and people can make mistakes - but there is no shop in town that can claim anything different. Having various vehicles serviced at Tom Frost Firestone for many years, I found the customer personnel to be friendly, upfront with what needs to be completed on a vehicle within a particular timeframe, and honest when the work needed may be costly and the vehicle may need to be kept overnight. I also have my regular maintenance such as oil changes, 50,000 miles checkup and such completed at Tom Frost and am told to bring the vehicles in on Wednesday and Thursdays as they are the days which the service personnel may not be working on other customer's vehicles more complicated repairs which were held overnight. Every business has limited resources such as 6 bays and only 6 service people...meaning only 6 vehicles may be worked on at a time. Attitudes of customers whose needs seem to be "only now will do" in this world "only me" do nothing to warm customer service personnel to their plight. One morning when I was driving home from a midnight shift one of my engine lights came on and I drove to Tom Frost directly. I had several more night shifts to complete before time off. Tracy had an idea what may be the problem and went out with a portable computer and did some quick checks. As I try to be friendly and patient with others as I would want them to be with me, Tracy was kind enough to tell me the possible problem, honest what the cost would be, and the time it would take to fix the problem. As it wasn't urgent, I was able to bring the vehicle in another day. David drove me home and picked me up again when the vehicle was repaired. Patience and attitude bring wisdom which in turn brings better social interaction between people. Any business may not have the resources available at the time one does need things completed. Not sure what these other two folks are referring to here but Myself and several folks in my community have been dealing with this company for many years. Their prices are fair, the service is honest and if one has a genuine concern and asks to speak to Dave (owner), it will get handled fairly. I've had a couple over the many years and they have always been resolved to my satisfaction. That may not always mean the customer is always right of course and as most honest folks know that is not always the case. hate to see good folks get bad wrap. Problem with these public formats is you seldom hear about the good things a company does. It's usually only when someone has a beef and usually it's one sided. The complainer is not telling the whole story, has not given a company everything they need to make amends or not given them any feedback at all before coming to these forums and writing something they is likely in appropriate. Zero stars for customer service!! Had an issue with my tire so decided to stop by to have them take a look at it. All i was seeking was an opinion, wasn't expecting them to stop everything and cater to my problems. I was told that they didn't have time to even come out and take 30 seconds to look at my tire. I walked out and drove down to Goodyear (across from Burger King). I walked in and explained my issue and two workers immediately walked out to see what the problem was. The one guy said pull the car over to the garage door and he would try to see what he could do. A few seconds later he came out with an impact wrench and was able to fix my wheel. He then asked what year and model my car was so he could find a lug nut to replace the broken one that he had removed for me. this entire process took approximately three minutes. The next time I need tires for my two vehicles (which will be within the next few months), I will definitely take it to the Warrenton Goodyear. It's crazy how far a little customer service and can go. A+ to Goodyear!!! read more

You requested an amount of more than double the amount the VA State Police indicated we may be responsible for. This is the only mistake this inspector has ever made in all his years as a VA Inspector. He is human, and Tom Frost Firestone stands behind his expertise and professionalism. We believe our prompt efforts to contact you to obtain the information required to initiate a fair refund were only met with unprofessional responses by you, which hindered a resolution. After our multiple requests, one verbally on the phone and two by certified mail, for your full name to issue a refund, of which you never responded we took extra efforts to verify your full name. A refund was made in the form of a company check of which we have a copy. Great service! My car would not start and after caling around to car repair shops and the dealer of my car, Dave, the president offered to come to where I was stranded to see if he could get my car started. He came, could not start it, and we had already arranged for a tow with Fosters Towing. Before he came out, Dave compiled a price for a new starter for my car and had it ready for me. The car was towed to Tom Frost and repaired that day for the price promised. The customer service people also called to remind me my state inspection was overdue and to ask if I would like them to take care of it. It was inspected, and passed, but they were kind enough to let me know I would need new brake shoes to insure that I would pass the next state inspection. Very nice, competent, people. Last week I stopped by Tom Frost Firestone to get my VA State inspection. They always seem to get to my vehicles quickly, and I've never had to wait in any of those long snaking line of cars like at some other locations. This inspection took a bit longer than normal, because luckily the inspector discovered that the new tires that the dealership had recently installed for me were mounted on the rims backwards/inside out. Tom Frost Firestone corrected the problem, passed my vehicle, and provided me with a receipt that the dealership reimbursed me for. Tom Frost has always been able to handle whatever I needed done and on short notice. They work diligently so you are not waiting excessive time for your vehicle. One morning I needed to drop my car off and was going to walk to work in Old Town. Instead I was taken to work in my car and Travis drove it back so I could be on time. When the vehicle was finished they drove it back to my job and dropped it off so I would not have to walk down after hours to pick it up. Always great service and Lacey is always so friendly. I have been going to Tom Frost Firestone since 1996. They have serviced all of my vehicles over this time for all sorts of repairs. Tires, breaks, starter, timing belt, transmission trouble, you name it they have helped me. The staff is very nice and honest. They try their best to meet your time needs for repairs and will go out of their way to help. Just like all companies Tom Frost has its ups and downs, but what I feel makes them stand out is how they go out of their way to make things right when things do not always go as expected. read more

Tires, regular maintenance, state inspections, turkey vs. my windshield assistance, awesome help in dealing with the extended warranty people for a major engine repair (the extended warranty people were AWFUL). I have been a customer for more that 10 years and have always be treated fairly and with prompt service. When I need to leave my car they will bring me home and come get me when it is done. On my last visit I thought I needed a battery so they recommended a system check and as it turned out it was just the extreme cold and by battery was fine.
