We went there at noon on a Friday, ample parking available, but as soon as we walk-in, we realized that there were literally no customers present. The only person eating inside the restaurant was the cashier, which we later came to find out would be our chef & our server also! It was just 2 of us and we wanted to dine-in. Found out that there is a 6% charge to eat in. Plus there is a 4% charge if you use a card vs using cash. Alright, back onto the order, we ordered a couple of entrees and a couple of boba drinks. You pay at counter before you sit down and although the gentleman was very nice, he was really slow. I could not imagine, how they would do, if there were multiple people who were wanting to order. From putting in order to paying, am guessing it took the gent about 10 minutes, not great! The dine-in experience was not great. Floor was sticky, actually very sticky at certain spots. Bathrooms were icky, i just went in to wash hands. Was really hoping and rooting that food would make-up for the experience that we had so far but of course it did not. Both the entrées were really bland. I don't think that it was possible, but somehow they made Chinese food not have a taste. It was as bland as it can get. We doused salt & soya sauce on the food to give it some taste just so we can eat it. Remember the boba drinks that we ordered, we did not get them until almost we got done eating and were ready to ask for to-go boxes. I asked our cashier/server/chef what's taking this long for the drinks and the again very polite & friendly gent told us that he has not made one before so it took him some time to figure things out which explained the yelling & screaming that we were hearing coming from the kitchen :D I do not recall ever having this kind of end to end experience at a restaurant. I didn't heed the warnings in other reviews as I really wanted to try for myself and help support this business venture for the new owners. The food lacked flavor and there was hardly any meat in the beef lo mein I ordered (see pic with almost no meat). It doesn't need to be littered with meat but it's comical to say it's beef lo mein and I joked that I can't even call it vegetable lo mein cause there weren't many onions or much else in it either. Service left something to be desired. From the moment you enter the building, you get a sense that customer service is not their forte. Not that they were rude, they were not. But there's nothing there to draw you back in or feel like you've been welcomed into something special. I wasn't greeted when I entered or at any point but told that they would be right back, and went to the kitchen. The packaging of the food needs more forethought and I implore the owners to do better. I ordered Orange chicken and a sweet and sour chicken dinner plate. I can only assume that the battered chicken labeled "orange chicken" was supposed to be for both meals as they did not do anything to indicate or clearly state if the meat was for both meals or if I was supposed to get a separate container for the dinner meal as one would anticipate - it was just a large container of chicken. This could have been resolved if the owners or whoever was working had the customer service skills to communicate this. A simple sentence and conversation to explain their packaging would have been a nice minimum but it seems they don't want to talk to customers. Not only that but they decided to pack the bright red and bright orange sauces in those white take out boxes that are clearly not for liquids. Imagine a quart full of orange, liquid goo going all over because they didn't tell you that they decided to pack a huge container of said liquid in a non-liquid container. The fact that they don't see that as a problem says a lot about how much they know or care about running a restaurant. I don't think I'd ever want to return even if I was desperate. I hope that they can work on their customer service skills and rethink their food packaging. read more

New ownership and food quality is not the same. Fried rice is broken down rice barely any meat, no flavor. Cream cheese wonton barely has any cream cheese. Chicken has no flavor. Now i have travel further to find decent Chinese food. read more

Great food and service, the only complaint I have is not adding enough meat/shrimp especially for the shrimp and cashew. The restaurant had a great ambiance as well as being surprisingly spacious. The beef and broccoli didn't seem to incorporate the brown sauce and seemed more like just beef and broccoli but it didn't affect the flavor or quality of your typical beef and broccoli. The cream cheese wontons couldn't be anymore perfect. The egg rolls were not watery but packed with flavor with a slight hint of cinnamon and very filling. The chicken fried rice was lacking chicken and looking a little on the darker side but overall was very good. The shrimp and cashews was great but could've added a few more shrimp, if you're thinking of the Panda Express shrimp and cashew as I was, it's not like that but more or less tiny shrimp with cashews and a lot of diced up flavorless white vegetables which is about 70-80% of what it is. read more

I love Tom Moy and was so excited when I moved back to MN that it was still open. Have been there many times since I moved back and it was wonderful. Today however, the Chicken Chow Mein was awful--so watery I thought it was soup and no flavor. It was so bad it went in the garbage! I used to love this place. It was the best but unfortunately they have changed owners and the new ones are awful! I ordered chicken, chow, mein and wontons. The wontons were all crust and barely any cream cheese and the chow mein was awful. I'm seriously going to throw away this overpriced garbage. The sauce is a thick gel type with no flavor and the meat. I don't even know what it is. It was slimy and it seemed like some sort of canned fake meat. It's such a disappointment. I don't know where to go now for tell me and this used to be my favorite place but I will never ever step foot in there again. Also he was a sweetheart but they had an 11-year-old boy running the cash register and taking orders. He tried to charge me about $14 too much and I had to point out that he had done something wrong so that he could re-add it. Tom Moy's has the kinda aesthetic that says-hey welcome come in and eat our delicious food in a chill/comfy environment. I have not tasted Chinese food this good since moving to Minnesota. The lemon chix is so yummy! I very much like having the sauce on the side so I can control the amounts. I had no idea the portions were so hefty! And a bargain too!! I spent $30 for 4 meals-I love Chinese leftovers. I have heard they have a legit buffet on Sunday's for a very reasonable price. Tom Moy is one of the best places around, if you like Chinese food. The food is very well prepared and the portions are extremely generous. The price sometimes seems really low for what you get. The dinner special is only 8 bucks and you are loaded up with food. They also have the best cream cheese wontons around. We would suggest getting the wontons, some chicken Lo Mein and some chicken fried rice. You will be on the top of the world stuffed full. read more

I've only eaten here for take out (at least 10x). I've tried vegetable fried rice, chow mein, lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken and cream cheese wontons. All were good except the sesame chicken which is normally difficult to perfect. I'm unsure why they're rated low on food on some reviews, I'm super picky with Chinese food and I think it's delicious. This is my all time favorite chinese restaurant ever! I worked here when I was 16 and it was my very first job. Connie was just the best. Now, I'm 22 and I came back here to eat. Everything was the exact same! It was like I stepped into a time machine. The food is still the same after all these years! And the prices are still the same low price! If a customer orders over $40 worth of food for take out, checks the order and the boxes are labeled correctly, only to find out that the box contains the wrong dinner you would think the owner will be willing to either run out the correct order or mail a coupon for a free dinner because of the mix-up. The owner stated I could drive all the way back and they would do an exchange, or put a note in the computer that I get $2 off my next order. What incredibly poor customer service. read more

I have always liked their cashew chow mein. I went in this evening and ordered two meals - chicken chow mein and General Tso Chicken and egg roll to take out so I could enjoy dinner with my elderly mom. I got to her apartment with the sack and was surprised that we only had one meal. It was very good. They took my number and called back. I called the restaurant and they said that two employees saw me being handed two sacks: one paper and one plastic. I commented that they were saying I was untruthful. She said, "Well I don't know what I can do because they say you got the sack". She then hung up on me. To be sure I went and checked in my car and no sack. This isn't a good way to run a business. We ordered take out for the first time from here this evening. When we got home part of our order was missing. I called and asked to have the missing food credited back to my check card, because we didn't want to drive back and get the missing food. They refused and said I could come back within a week and pick the missing food. I asked if they were serious and again asked to have the money credited back to my card. Again they refused and said when I come back maybe they'll throw in some extra. It was only $5, but the fact is it was my money and I never received the what I paid for. Tommy Moy has the very best Chow Mien and Egg Foo Yong ever! This was a staple growing up at our house for Sunday afternoon lunches. Dad stopped after church at the original take out in the CG Mall (now demolished) while we waited in the car. There was always a line, but it was never a long wait, and the wait was always worth it. The buffet is good. Ambience is friendly and you can still hear the kitchen, like at the old location. The decor is from the old dining room but it's what I expect and look forward to if eating in. I grew up in Cottage Grove, Tom Moys was and still the best Chinese food I have ever had. I remember when it was strictly a take out counter. I remember seeing Mr Moy using an abacus to do his books. He was a nice man and made his customers feel like old friends rather than customers. It was a sad day when he passed away. When they expanded to include a small cafe that was wonderful. The servers were great and always remembered your name and even knew what you would order etc. When I left for the navy my parents would take me to Tom Moys whenever I was home on leave. When my parents passed away they even sent a card. When I have been back to MN I always stop at Tom Moys to eat. I wish we had a place like Tom's here in Indiana where I now live. One star for family owned, 30 years in business. Few if any updates including prices. It brought us back to the 70's when Thai, Cambodian, Indian, Vietnamese food didn't exist here. I don't want to be tough, it is a family place, but 0 atmosphere with Nirvana on, bunch of teenagers running the front of the house and not great food. Veggies were fresh, BF liked his, something veggie with a dark sauce, may be Buddah's delight? Mine was "sweet and sour" which was about of quart of sweet pink stuff coloring my food, but came with about 50 cream cheese wontons. I can't believe someone complained about prices, seriously cheap I can't believe they make money. I wish Tom would take his family to any of the 5 star Asian places and take a hint, or hire a restaurant consultant - then up your prices to pay for it!!! This place has terrible service and All the staff is about 16 years old. We ordered a simple large orange chicken and a large chicken lo mein. We did not check until we got home and our order was incorrect. I call to ask if they will deliver the correct order. But they do not deliver. I then asked if they can give me a refund and I hear someone else get on the line. This woman was very rude from the start and proceeded to ask what the dish looked like. I have been to Chinese restaurants before and what we had received was sweet and sour chicken. She then proceeded to tell me this in fact was their orange chicken they just don't put the sauce on it. So I tasted it and it was not orange chicken. I'm fine eating 25$ for this crappy food the fact that she just argued with me instead of refunding me for something I ordered and didn't receive was ridiculous. I will not be returning. read more
