Well, from out of town and looked for something that wasn't a chain restaurant. Appetizer of fried artichoke hearts was good but wasn't very hot. My margarita pizza on "thin crust" was barely passable but I was hungry and half of it. Hubby had linguini and clams but he failed to see it also had ham in it!! Ham linguini and clams. I've never. Hard to be from an Italian family traveling in Ohio! Wine was good. This place has potential and I'm sure we just didn't order the right things. read more

It had been years since I was here for dinner. Glad to see this simple but upscale-feeling place still delivered outstanding service and creative and modern Italian-style dishes. I was sorry to read all of the negative reviews and candidly they gave me pause, but I didn't experience any of the complaint items. If I could give a negative review I would. This place doesn't deserve even 1 star after our experience tonight. We have lived in Hudson for 15 years. We never had such a horrid experience anywhere in this town! We walked in at 7pm. The girl came to the hostess stand and said she only had a high top for our party of 5. I said ok we'll take it. She sat us and brought us drinks in a timely matter. But from this point forward it just went all down hill. We were chatting amongst ourselves for quite awhile. Then I realized our server had not been back to our table to take our order for a good 20 minutes!! We noticed she was running the bar, sitting people and then waiting some tables. She noticed that we were watching her and finally came by to take our order. We didn't say anything, we ordered. She brought out bread for our table. Then it took forever to get the goat cheese appetizer we ordered. I had asked her if that app was good for 5 people, she had said 'yes, if you have extra toast.' Well when she brought it there was no extra toast. She didn't say anything and we didn't bother to say anything. Then when she came back 10 minutes later (because she was clearing a table by us) she saw we had goat cheese left and the toast was gone, so she said 'your extra toast is coming, the guy in the back dropped it, then he burnt it.' whatever, we didn't really care and just said 'ok, thanks.' And she walked away and brought the extra toast in 5 minutes. Then dinner took forever to come. When it did we all dug in. My hubby ordered the Cajun chix pizza. He hated it, but tried to eat it but he complained the whole time. She was no where to be seen. Another person at our table ordered a regular pizza w/pepperoni and it was so doughy. these pizza's cost $18 each and were worse then a school lunch pizza! The Cajun pizza tasted and smelled like Taco seasoning! The toppings were literally sitting on top ofthe pizza instead of being cooked in a little like every other pizza out there! And not to mention very little topping w/so much dough left! 12" pizza $18! My chicken saltimbocca was good. My sons fettuccini looked like it was done much earlier and sitting while everything else cooked. I had a side of linguini w/marinara. It was very light on the marinara so I wanted to ask for more. I waited and waited and waited. She wasn't anywhere to be seen! Hiding out in back or something. I ate all my chicken and my hubby ate half his pizza. She finally came out right to our table and asked if everything was ok. I asked her if I could get extra marinara, she said yes and was off to get it. She brought it out and I said thanks and she was off again. Everyone I was with chatted as I finished my pasta. We chatted awhile longer before she came by to ask if we were done and wanted boxes. My hubby was the only one with food left. I told her we are done but no box. I continued to tell her that my hubby won't tell you this, but he hated that pizza. I told her how it smelled and tasted like Taco seasoning instead of Cajun. All she said was 'o.k' and walked away!! No gee, I'm sorry you didn't like it or anything! I was shocked. So we waited and she brought the bill. 18% gratuity already added for a party if 5! What! Ok, so you treat us like shit cause as you pointed out when we complained about that, that it says it right in the menu 18% gratuity for 5 or more. Oh, and she also charged us $18 for the pizza my hubby hated! When she came to get the check, I asked for a manger, and she said she was the manager!!! Again, utter shock! She said cause we didn't complain when she was by the 1st time (when I asked for extra marinara and she left to get it) is why she charged us. And also cause he ate a few pieces. I told her he ate the pieces cause she was never returning after we started eating! That's why everyone was done when she did come back and I asked for extra sauce!! So I said, 'then charge us for half the pizza then.' She said no! She was being so mean and rude we couldn't believe it! Which made us get angry with her!! My hubby told her he didn't want to pay the 18% gratuity after how she treated us and the fact we were there for 2 hours! She told us if we don't pay it she'll call the police!!! Wait what is happening here!! Omg! When I complained about the pizza earlier, I said it was worse then a school lunch pizza, so after we paid and we're getting up to leave, she asked loudly to another couple sitting at the bar eating so we could hear, if their pizza tasted like a school lunch pizza and they said no. Ok. So if you have a party of 5 or more, definitely stay away from this place. Apparently even the management thinks it's ok to treat you like crap cause they are getting their tip anyway. Also, don't get the pizza! Every other place out there has much better pizza! Matter of fact, get a frozen one from the grocery store and cook it at home, much better! read more

Nice upscale ambience and really great and attentive service. Loved the table bread and herb butter. Our server made some recommendations - decided to try their specialty "white wine-lemon butter sauce." So I ordered the chicken Piccata and it was ... slightly warm soggy breaded chicken in lemon water. Not a sauce. Certainly the mixture didn't reduce, but also maybe they forgot the butter? The atmosphere was okay, nothing great. The food was decent. I had the veg napoleon app. For some reason, I thought there would be more to it and the zucchini and squash were raw, which was not expected. I had the special which was sea bass. It was good. The mashed sweet potatoes it was on were good too but a bit too sweet (maybe added sugar). I also had the GF cake dessert. Is made with almond and hazelnut flour. Small restaurant in Hudson that features Italian food. The place is comfortable and reasonably quiet. A good crowd on a Thursday night was nice to see. I ordered the linguine puttanesca. A delicious and flavorful take on the pantry dish that you don't see often on menus. I love it and this was an enjoyable meal. Friends had the daily special: shrimp and lobster stir fry which they both enjoyed. No drinks or desserts this night. Service was excellent and all servers were hustling. We had a 6:30 reservation for three at The Tomato Grill (my wife, our baby in a stroller, and myself). I even added a note in the reservation about the stroller to give them a heads-up. When we arrived on time, we were told there was no table available and that it would be about a 20-minute wait. During that wait, we noticed our reservation had somehow been trimmed down to two people. After about 20 minutes, we were offered a high-top table right in the main walkway by the bar, restrooms, and kitchen -- not exactly stroller-friendly. We declined, and were told they didn't know when another table would be ready. We were finally seated around 7:10. My wife spoke with the manager to calmly explain the situation, but the manager was dismissive and condescending. Instead of listening, she talked over my wife, said they were "busy," and walked away mid-conversation. We understand being busy, but the entire point of a reservation is to have a table ready at the time reserved. Once seated, we discovered how much they nickel and dime you. My chicken parmesan that looked like a college kid made it, was $20 and they wanted an extra $5.50 for pasta to go with it. My wife had pasta with marinara sauce and asked to switch her pasta type from the listed penne or linguine to just regular angel hair and was charged $1 extra. The $9 side salad tasted like bagged lettuce, and they would've charged another $1.50 just to split it. We originally planned to order drinks, an appetizer, and dessert, but by that point, the experience had soured the evening. The server was kind and not at fault, but everything else was a disappointment. We won't be returning. read more

The bruschetta used to be out of this world, they must have a new chef because today's was mediocre at best. The pasta, so incredibly salty, at least two 16 oz glasses of water needed for both of us to consume our meals. My son got the shrimp alfredo, overpriced really for the 4 shrimp on his plate, but so salty, I can do so much better in my own kitchen and not pay $19 for one plate. I might pay that for a family of four to eat. My pasta side was also extremely salty as well. Perhaps the new chef does not realize how salty parmesan or pecorino Romano are so salt should really not be added. read more

This is a review of the chicken parmigiana I got from takeout here. My parents went to eat here and picked me up some takeout on their way out. I asked them how it was before I dug in and they said, it was alright. My mom said, "Fair to middling." These are people who typically like most things, so even a mediocre review coming from them is the definition of being damned by faint praise. It's hard to keep food looking good in transit but this is definitely the worst looking chicken dish I have ever seen. The chicken itself both looks and tastes like a year old frozen bird. You're not tasting meat, just the store quality marinara slopped on top of it. Unclear if there was any cheese or breading or anything, as it looked like a mess of burnt spinach and god knows what. I'm only giving two stars because the caesar salad tastes normal- about what you'd expect from a Domino's salad. If I get indigestion later we'll know the culprit and this is getting downgraded further. My opposite of compliments to the chef. In Italy this guy would be drawn and quartered. read more

Someone call the police. I was robbed. Charging for the food we were served is criminal. I DID learn some Italian while I was there. Apparently "Gourmet Pizza" is Italian for dog food. Literally the worst pizza dough I've ever seen in an Italian restaurant. It's not even dough....pre-made. Embarrassing. I don't even think a grocery store sells pre-made dough as bad as this. Terrible. Took 1 bite of an entire pizza and left it there. Disgusting. I felt bad for the poor server who has to see unhappy faces all day long and risk tips on what comes out of that place. Overpriced! Let's start with a horrible old fashioned.. I mention that it's way too bitter and she says she'll bring me more simple syrup. Never offered to remake them. Then we order the stuffed pepper appetizer... it's literally ONE SMALL PEPPER that probably cost them no more than $1 and they charge $15!!! Then got the Halibut.. good but over cooked. And then they charged me $3 extra because we split the halibut between two people. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! $93 and went home hungry. read more

I'm quite litterally shocked at all the negative reviews with respect to this restaurant! Prior to writing this, I have dined here on four separate occasions, and not once did I have a bad experience! Let's rewind a bit; my visit was the result of a google search that led me to Hudson Ohio. Previously, I had no knowledge of this establishment. Upon entering I was greeted by a friendly hostess who sat me a t a booth. It was moderately busy, but certainly not packed - which was fine in my book! The interior is warm and inviting, with a full bar to the left as you walk inside while the dining area sits to the right. The menu is loaded with excellent options ranging from soups, salads, pizza and spaghetti, to risotto and carefully crafted veal and seafood dishes. After some difficult considerstion, I decided on a bowl of Pasta Fagioli and a plate of Linguini & Clams, with red clam sauce! While awaiting my entree, complementary bread was brought to the table. The bread was warm and almost made a meal by itself. My entree was wonderfully prepared and generously portioned. The flavor fused from the garlic, basil, and olives further highlighted the clams. So, as far as first impressions go, Tomato Grill did not disappoint and made me a fan. read more

I ordered the chicken Marsala. The chicken was so tough I couldn't chew it. I only tried one piece and told the server who did not offer to bring me another order cooked correctly. The server took it back and still charged me for it. When I bought it to servers attention she offered to take 1/2 off! I DID NOT EAT this meal. Why would I pay for any of it??? We were seated right away but waited a very long time for the server to greet us. The restaurant was not busy. In fact there were no servers visible to the guests. Honestly, after reading some of the reviews on here, I almost canceled our reservation. The reviews on Open Table were much better, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. When we entered, we were immediately greeted and led to our table. Coming from a youth soccer game we probably a tad underdressed, but we weren't made to feel out of place at all. Both the hostess and waitress were very nice and attentive. The sausage and meatballs were both really good. I had the ravioli with a meatball: good dish! Everyone at our table had some form of pasta and all enjoyed their meals. The kids pasta and alfredo sauce was a little bland, so I'd avoid that one; however, when we mixed it with some tomato sauce, our daughter was happy. One thing to know: the portions are small. It's not necessarily a bad thing. My family of 5 ate for about $68 total - which is a bit less than we normally spend. When we left, I felt like I was still hungry, but by the time we got home, I was fine. Perhaps the portions were just fine?? Terrible frozen lasagna, flooding in water, noodles were obliterated in texture, the service was great but the food does not reflect the rating I saw that brought me to this restaurant, the menu is way too big, the food isn't fresh. We had soup and salads for late lunch on a weekday. Even so they seemed somewhat busy and the waitresses were running around like mad. They had us switch seats because a customer had been stung by a bee, but there were tons of bees by all the outdoor seats. The butternut squash soup was bland, and the server not very apologetic. She let us try a spinach white bean soup instead but that one was so salty - and when I told her that, she just shook her head and had a good laugh with another server at 'that Dora,' who 'really likes to put a lot of salt in the soup'. The romaine was rusty; the olives tasted off, like of car exhaust; the silverware was dirty... the only thing acceptable on the table was the water, which, though it came in an old dirty glass, was palatable. Oh, and fyi - it isn't pleasant or professional to tell about every last detail of your fingernail being ripped off while people - your customers, that is - are trying to eat. You especially don't need to emphasize that it was being so short-staffed that was the reason for your hurried carelessness. Pretty sure the chicken was microwave cooked, service was good, but food continues to get worse

A very nice quaint place in Hudson on a historical side street. This is a smaller restaurant that was very busy the day I visited. One thing to note, it was very loud so conversation is difficult. I had a reservation this particular evening and was promptly seated by the hostess. Soon the waitress came by to take our drink orders. The service was very good in spite of the waitress, in my opinion, having too many tables! Kudos to the waitress!!! The pricing is average for the fare, as was the food that I ordered. I ordered Chicken Piccata, or what was described as such on the menu! It came with a chicken breast cut into thirds breaded and "deep fried" rather than dredged through flour and fried in a skillet. The Piccata sauce seems to be no more than lemon flavored "runnings" with a thin slice of lemon on the side to confirm there was lemon in the ingredients. To finish the dish off it was garnished with one piece of artichoke and a few sprinkles of capers. Overall a poor excuse for Chicken Piccatta! I really hate to give less than stellar reviews and I feel I'm being generous with 3 stars...but the Tomato Grill really needs to step up its game. To anyone considering visiting this restaurant ...I would encourage you to at least try it once. However, keep in mind my review of the Chicken Piccata dish...you may wish to consider another entree. Lastly be aware, if you decide to order a salad and split it between two people...they charge a dollar for that pleasure. A dollar is not a big deal , I just thought it was a little tacky. Our server was outstanding. However.... I had checked out your menu on line and found what I wanted and then called an hour before arriving to make sure I could order off the children's menu. I've had weight loss surgery and can eat very little at a time. I was assured that wouldn't be a problem. Our server politely told me the kitchen wouldn't allow her to order a children's meal for an adult but I was welcome to order off the side dishes. I was there with a large group and didn't want to make a scene or hold up everyone else so quickly scanned the menu and picked something else and even though the food was okay it wasn't what I wanted. If I hadn't called ahead of time I would have been okay with our policy but considering I was told it would be "more" than okay it was a big disappointment to me. read more

I was hoping for some great Italian food with friends...unfortunately, the food was not good. I got the eggplant Parmesan...not only was it just bad, it was also burnt. My friends had basic dishes and both said were not good. Chicken Parmesan was tough and veal Parmesan was also not good. Nothing included with main dish, not even pasta. Pasta not cooked well and sauce was also not good. Service was ok. Very disappointing experience, and overpriced. Originally, this review was going to be a two star, but the waitress and the food made up for standing at a podium for 15 minutes without being acknowledged. Originally we had a reservation for 7:30 PM. We arrived exactly at 7:30 PM where we proceeded to stay in there until 745 until the hostess, even showed to the podium. It's a relatively small restaurant the hostess stand is exactly across from the bar, which has about an arms length of room in between, and not even the bartenders, acknowledged as RUDE! After the whole Sis show it to the podium, she then told us that it would be a longer wait for a reservation. I was annoyed AF!! After being seated, I did notice the hostess, was busting her ass off cleaning tables preparing things being a A+ worker. Our waitress is super nice I can't even remember her name, but she was very knowledgeable about the food on the menu, and very very nice. I had the pleasure of having the salmon and my boyfriend had the penne alla vodka and for appetizers, we order the bruschetta, which was amazing!! read more

First we'll start with my husbands Gnocchi with Sausage. Menu offers chicken but he was able to sub sausage. Very accommodating. The Gorgonzola cheese sauce looked like Alfredo sauce. So not sure if it would classify as a heart attack on a plate but very tasty. I ate up the calamata olives for him! I had the Vodka sauce gluten Free penne pasta with chicken.
