We hadn't been here for a while and were very pleasantly surprised. For breakfast I had a cheddar brown plate that was just perfect for me -- hashbrowns with cheese and bacon on top, served with an egg and toast. The hashbrowns were a flash to the past, crispy outside and creamy inside. The bacon was especially tasty and the whole wheat toast was amazing (I didn't have to search to see which side was buttered). Husband had chile rellenos, filled with bacon and egg and sprinkled with chorizo. It was such a large serving I thought I'd have a chance to try it, but it totally disappeared. We had said we may never go back but that was 5 years ago. We did go back. We were seated right away which is always a good thing. The place was packed and it's a typical coffee shop diner. There's nothing wrong with that. Servers were very friendly, efficient and just great. Absolutely no issue with that. The menu is loaded with items so you have lots of choices. My husband ordered a strawberry waffle that he said was delicious. Of course, it was as it was covered with strawberries and whipped cream. I ordered half a tuna sandwich and a cup of clam chowder. The tuna sandwich was very good. I almost wished I had ordered a whole one. However, I would definitely pass on the clam chowder. I haven't had much luck with that lately. For some reason these restaurants seem to think it's okay to use a lot of flour without flavor. No clam taste. Would we return? Yes because they had a huge menu to choose from. read more

Last visited: May 2024 On the way from a hiking spot -- Marymere Falls -- to Bainbridge Island. Stopped by here at The Big Elk Restaurant, mainly as we heard they serve Elk here. Came here with fam, we are visiting Seattle, WA area. Group of 10 or so. I ordered: - Chocolate Milkshake - Real Elk Burger (extra 1/2 lb Elk patty) - Clam Chowder as soup side Rest of group ordered: - Seafood Platter - Real Elk Burger (x2) - Grilled Chicken Platter - Fish and Chips Ambiance was swell. We got a separate room for our group. There was a fake mirror on the wall, rather clever. I (along with most of others) ordered Real Elk Burger, as that is a signature dish here at Big Elk. The burger is made with real Elk meat. I ordered double patty, so a little extra. Got Clam Chowder as choice of side. I also ordered Chocolate Shake for drink and that came first. Presentation was great and I quickly finished it. It tasted sugary and good and much needed after slight dehydration from sunny weather outside. Real Elk Burger was pretty good, and came with bacon, tomato, and cheese. It was definitely distinct taste from beef, and tasted a little like kidney to me, but in good way. There was almost zero fat on patty and just lean meat. Since I ordered extra patty, I couldn't finish all of it, despite starting off with empty stomach, and had to pack maybe 1/4 of it to go. The side which was Clam Chowder was just decent. It was a little too buttery and creamy for me, but it was Ok. All in all, food was great and I'm rating up because service was really good as well as general food like apps etc. was well prepared and also presented well. Really like this spot for Real Elk meat, and hopefully will get a chance to visit again once I'm in the Port Angeles, WA area. read more

This is my favorite greasy spoon breakfast place. Spouse and I drive from Kitsap most weekends and we love it. The service is unbeatable. The food is great. Worth the 45 min drive. Everything is hot, fresh and made to order. Being originally from the south, love a good biscuits and gravy and they do it well. Betty is usually our server, who we really enjoy, and I have yet to have a bad meal there. Can vouch for the pancakes, poached eggs, bacon, sausage, chicken fried steak potatoes, coffee and more. Like I said, have yet to have something I do not like there. I dont go for lunch, because I have a rule about places being either breakfast or lunch/dinner, so I cannot speak to any of the lunch or dinner options, but the cooks are good and the place is full of locals and regulars, so just a great place to start your day. read more

Regular hashbrowns (not the potatoes cut up) Thick slabs of bacon. Betty, our server helped me figure what I wanted, that fit with their menu. My wife had a Reuben. One kewl thing, we ordered Sprite, and instead of it in a can, or a glass, you get it in a Mason jar, which was not only kewl, but lasts longer without asking for a refill.. Service was 5 star, food 3.5 (only because my eggs were supposed to be over easy and were closer to over medium. If I'm ever out that way again, wouldnt hesitate to stop by again. Stopped here for lunch and it was good. My husband had the clam chowder and said it was tasty! There was a good amount of clams in it. We split the French dip, which was just okay. The meat was a bit rubbery, and the au jus was not very flavorful. We also had the Elk sampler platter which had a nice variety of fried snacks. This is a great joint when you're in the Sequim local town. Great seating lots of menus selections from breakfast to dinner. It may take a while for you to decide whether to get breakfast or lunch! Price is fairly reasonable and service is efficient and friendly! Must try is their local favorite lavender lemonade it has just the right tartness and sweetness. We ordered a few on the sandwich menus and I got their shrimp salad. It is flavored and seasoned nicely. Just ate an omelette (the elk) with a biscuit and gravy. It was not only outstanding but filling and I tend to not get full easily! It was apparent the ingredients were fresh, the onions were grilled to perfection, and the seasoning on everything was perfect. I was rather disappointed in our dinner here. The clam chowder had a sour taste, was not very well seasoned nor very thick. Color was off. After tasting the sour notes I passed on eating it. Most of the seafood is deep fried...I chose instead the sautéed shrimp. It was served in a pool of buttery water, the veggies I believe were a frozen variety small pieces, this wasn't sautéed. The shrimp was ok. The other in my group has the dip sandwich, it was a ground meat patty on a tasty bun. She indicated the mashed potatoes were instant. Service was prompt and friendly however. When Covid was big, this is one of the places that was open and the food was great. So we came back for a second try this year, and the food was just as good. They serve breakfast all da and give you the option to choose lunch or dinner depending on the time. I got the 2×4. They let you choose 4 things for breakfast they have listed. I got 2 sides of bacon to make 4 pieces, 2 scrambled eggs, and biscuits with gravy. Mmmm. It was delicious. Nice thick cut apple wood bacon. The amount of eggs I got was definitely more than just 2 eggs. Was made a little different than the normal scramble I was use to seeing but they were still cooked right. The. There was the biscuits and gravy. 1 giant homemade biscuit cut in half with plenty of sausage gravy spread on it. It was delicious. Also there coffee was really good. Like really good. They give you lots of liquid creamers to choose from and I used the Irish creme liquid creamer. Only used 1 of those and then 2 half and half creamers with 3 sugars. I dont like coffee too much so I always doctor it up. The way I made this though made it excellent. Wish I had the option to make coffee like that back home. There was 6 of us sitting at the table and each got something a little different and will try to post the pictures of them. But I highly recommend this place. The service that was provided was excellent. The wait staff are very friendly and wait time for our food was short. The food portions are huge! My husband ordered the Big Elk Mess which had a variety of veggies cheese and meat, we had to get a to go box it was so big. My omelette had ham and cheese. It totally filled me up. Be prepared for a long wait. Service was super slow here! I didn't get food until 25 minutes after being seated. I got the Elk burger, and the elk patty tasted gamy and uncomfortable to eat. Lots of juice came out of both patties (I hope that it was not because they used frozen meat here.). My coleslaw did not taste fresh either. The only thing I like was the onion rings. The waitress was nice and offered a small to-go of clam chowder. We used 20% Yelp checkin discount. Food looked decent when it came out, but I was disappointed so much atthe food. I finally tried The Big Elk in Sequim. I was a bit nervous due to the bad reviews, but I just had to see for myself. It might be because of low expectations, but guess what? I was pleasantly surprised. Now here me out. I could tell they were under staffed. They had open mic night with a full room. The staff was to busy to give correct greetings and welcoming, but you could see they were running around clearing tables trying to keep things clean and moving. I had the surf and turf. It came with so much food. Sorry I somehow cut the steak out of this shot. The hubby had a basic hamburger. He felt it needed seasoning so he was happy he didn't get the Elk burger. It was not mind blowing, but from the service and food we received that night, we will be back. It compares to, Corner House, Joshua's, Smugglers, and even Taylors. All good eats, but nothing on the menu brings you back, except for the fact you want that type of food. I like to drink when I go out, so was happy for basic wine and beer. I've been visiting my grandfather in Sequim for quite a number of years and this is the best restaurant that I've been to here. The service was friendly and helpful, and the food was great. We had four adults and two kids in our party and we came for a late lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't very busy and there was no wait. We were greeted right away by the server/hostess. The portion sizes are really generous, so sharing an entree is more than doable. My kids each got a cheeseburger and they were huge, and good quality ingredients. We were able to take at least half home. I ordered the Chef Salad and it was delicious! Everything was fresh and tasty. We will definitely be back next time we are in Sequim. read more

About what you'd expect. Simple food from another old "diner" style Sequim restaurant. Pleasant staff but otherwise forgettable.

Everything was great!! Came in a little later and everyone was still in a great mood. Food was fast and so good!
