I have been going to Tommy's bagels for many years with great experiences with everything. You have to check your prices that you are being charged within new sophisticated register. Yesterday I bought two egg sandwiches with no extras on it and I was charged $16. When I brought it to the cashier's attention, he said the price of eggs went up.‍. I have been coming to this bagel shop for decades and the quality has definitely shifted down in the last few years to the point where it's very hit or miss. I ordered an egg bagel with lox spread. I receive a plain regular bagel with lox spread that is 98% regular white cream cheese with a few minuscule specks of lox in it. If I wanted a plain bagel with plain cream cheese I could have gone to dunkin. The lox is now prepackaged, so I just might as well get it from the grocery and the last time I had the whitefish it was very salty and not the same. The bagels themselves are good in texture, but i would skip on the spreads and just buy your own at the store. if my bagel was made incorrectly on a slow Monday morning, I don't know what would happen had it been a weekend. Tommy's Bagel is a small old fashioned bagel store. They have a very large variety of bagels that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Bailey's are delicious as well. Both bagels and bialys remind me of NY. The best. A large variety to fill your sandwich, from all fishes to deli meats and egg salad. Been going here for 13 years. My stomach is in knots over how bad the cream cheese was. They layered it on to the point where it was comical and unmanageable to eat, there was almost 3 inches of cream cheese. Best bagel in central Jersey without question. I mentioned this to the new owner recently and he was genuinely flattered. My three star review is based on counter service. When I bought a few bagels and received my change a"Thank you" was needed. Instead change was given and employee quickly headed over to some patrons seated and started chatting A customer before me was given a thank you when the employee heard the ch ching of money landing in the tip jar. Stopped here on my way to play golf at Knob Hill. It is literally down the street. They have biali's which are hard to find in a lot of places. I had to order one and I got it with strawberry cream cheese. Thy don't make their own strawberry cream cheese either when I ordered they got a container out of the fridge in the front. Some places do that and I never understand since it doesnt seem hard to make strawberry cc. FYI, they do not have a grill here so you can't order any egg sandwichs or anything like that. Kind of a bummer but all good. It is a small bagel shop but has a lot of other items. The biali was good not great. It tasted like your standard bagel with nothing popping out at me. The texture and the flavor were typical of a nj bagel spot. I also ordered some of the other bagels and they were pretty similar. They did have quick service which is always a plus. You can get in and out without worrying. 3 star place all the way. read more

We were turned on to Tommy's at a World Cup brunch party. Amazing is an understatement. They are not in the neighborhood but I was near on a Sunday morning and had to stop. This place went from the best bagels in the area to the worst bagels in the area. I don't know why they changed the recipe of the bagels up. They taste different and the texture is different. The consistency is way off.. And the owner is cranky, nasty, and treats the customers like he doesn't care. Shame because Manalapan had the best bagels in NJ hands down, not anymore. I waited in line but when I got to the counter no one would make eye contact with me, looked around me at customers behind me, and took their orders. I just walked out. No point in making a scene. Tommy's isn't the same. The new owner is incredibly rude and is always messing up orders. He also charged me for someone else's order one time and was irritated with me as If it was my fault he messed up. He always seems irritated, especially when you ask him for cold cuts. If he doesn't want to cut them then he shouldn't sell them. Overall he's rude and incredibly unfriendly. Definitely not someone who should be working with the public. I've had many New York bagels in my time, and I've got to say that Tommy's takes the cake as some of the best. I wasn't expecting much from a strip mall bagel joint in Manalapan, but when my Dad told me that this was his new go-to spot I knew it had to be good -- the man knows a thing or two about a bagel. On a Tuesday at 9 am it was poppin' off. You can definitely tell that lots of regulars hang out here. Luckily, we were able to snag the last table! My bagel was hot and perfectly doughy, and was so large that I was only able to finish half! The scallion cream cheese was flavorful and had just the right amount. I hate when bagel stores put on too much cream cheese, and the sandwich just turns into a mess. There is no grill so you can only order cold sandwiches, but I'm sure the epic bagel and cream cheese combo will have me coming back for more! read more
