A group of three of us stopped by for a business lunch. This a hidden jewel from a bygone era. We all had the large classic cheese burger and fries loaded. The sweet tea was devine. The burgers were old school hand patted and cooked to perfection. The service was outstanding. A couple of notes to address some complaints in the reviews. If it comes loaded it has slaw on it which does cool it down. Ours were cooked as ordered and the fries burnt my mouth. Servers are super nice food is amazing. Love the paint and all the decorations good seating too. I highly suggest coming here. Amazing service doesn't take long for food to come. I got the grilled cheese personally it's slightly wet oily melted cheese and amazing I suggest coming to this establishment. My sister got a small cheeseburger with chili, and we shared chili cheese fries. The chili cheese fries were amazing and the chili had an excellent taste. And her cheeseburger was good, patty was seasoned, and the lettuce was fresh. The waiters were extremely nice, and on top of everything. This place has went down hill. The barbecue slaw doesn't even look like it had barbecue sauce in it. We have always loved this place. I even asked with waitress if that was barbecue slaw. She said yes. She said the person that did make it no longer worked there. The taste sour and my stomach was messed up today. The hush puppies were dry and the minced barbecue was old tasting. Passing through on my way back home to Atlanta when my co-pilot/co-worker guided 4 of us in here for lunch. First impressions may give you reasons to be nervous about your choice in dining. However, the parking lot (albeit potholed) was fairly crowded with other patrons leading us to believe it may be worth the gamble. If you're traveling for business, leave the sport-coat in the car, as this is the sort of place that favors Carhartt. I saw no signs of cleanliness issues as stated in prior negative reviews, but could see how someone may percieve it that way if you're a little too highbrow for what is now referred to as a "dive". I'm sure ole Tommy never intended for this place to earn that name, but let's face it, the place has a little wear and tear. The vinyl seats are ripped, the menus are tattered and worn like your granny's bible, and the entire joint probably hasn't seen any upgrades in quite some time. The menu was worth a few chuckles with options like; Livermush Sandwich, Tater Babies and Weiner's sold individually for .99 each. And you can't be a legit family establishment without the claw game machine. This one is loaded with knock-off Tervis Tumblers stuffed with real cash (no, seriously). But what makes this place really great and worth the review, is it seems like it's been a part of the community for some time. The sort of small town place where people come as a tradition, like I remember as a kid. And if I had Tommy's home phone number, I'd call him myself (like we did back around the time this place was probably established) and tell him: that was a dam fine burger! Maybe even top 5 for me. Putting a burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches may not help your cholesterol levels, but it is unique and delicious. And the young gIrl who served us was excellent. Pleasant, inviting and always smiling. And lastly, I appreciate you serving classic, American drive-in grub at prices that are almost stupidly low. I'm glad we made the stop. read more

We have visited Tommy's three times and will go again. The burgers are lean and even the "small" burger is huge. The crinkle fries are delicious too! Great service every time. The staff is friendly and so are the customers. Now if you are expecting a new restaurant you'll be disappointed. It is an old diner type atmosphere complete with red booths and a terra cotta floor! Some have left reviews complaining that they don't follow Covid rules? So sit in your car and they will gladly bring your food right out to you Seriously this place is a great experience. I use to eat here a complete times a week, Now its not even that. Every time I call to place an order the phone is off the hook, doesn't work or nobody answers it.(even now while typing this on their busiest day nobody answers) Hire more workers,you are losing business. I usually only see 2 people working there but when you have 10 cars in the parking lot waiting 20 minutes or more its a bit silly. I know someone mentioned that they were price gauging since the quarantine. I noticed as well but was told the menus were just old and the prices had all went up. we use to come here multiple times a week. every time we go something ends up being wrong but we've let it slide. this time every order was completely wrong and we had to go back to pick up the right orders. we get all the way back to our place and there's a hair in one of my friends fries. I call once again to ask for a refund at this point but they said we needed to bring the food back. This has been a local restaurant I have went to for years. A few years back it really went down hill, but new owners brought change. I'm being honest when I say the burgers they are serving now are some of the best I have ever had. I get mine with chili mustRd onion and slaw. Yes it is messy but that is ok, my meat is juicy and tasty, well seasoned. and served on a good but. Plus, they don't under or over do the added stuff. The burgers are worth going. I! love the corn nuggets to. The chicken sandwich is yummy too. They also serve fried chicken plate hamburger steak and more. French fries can be normal or fresh cut, I like fresh cut. Tommy's has been a staple for the Dallas/ Gastonia community for years. They've had a few different owners throughout the years, but recently they've really turned the business around and made it a good bit more profitable. They have the best in house made cherry lemon sundrops and their club is out of this world. They have great salads if you're looking for something a little "healthier." i've grown up coming here and i've got to say this place has gone to SHITTTT. it takes 4 people to work the register there. they brought us the wrong food twice in a row then tried to charge me for an "ultimate" when i got a small cheeseburger. the last time i came here i got a small burger and they tried to charge me for a large... the owners daughter got smart with me when i asked for honey mustard and tried to charge me for it when i've been going there my whole life and have never once been charged for a condiment and told me every restaurant around charges for honey mustard but idk about you but i've never paid for something that's the sane as ketchup... this used to be an amazing place to stop and have a bite to eat but tommy's has gone so downhill i won't be stepping back in there and neither should you lol read more

All the people that work here are the best they all help each other for what I can see but that is one who I love the most Ashley she is so sweet and nice as many things I asked for when I was on curb she ran mad made sure me and my family was ok. Made a return trip after not coming here for a couple months. Wife got cheeseburger, but would not order onions as they cost extra. Drinks have shrunk and the utensils are still plastic. Today, the manager blamed it because we ordered chicken and it is cooked fresh. Which is understandable. However, it is NOT always chicken. But it does it take 30 minutes to cook? Our order was taken at 12:10 and we received our order at 12:35-12:40..... 5 tables received their food before we did. We spoke to the manager and she mentioned that she would look to see when the order was placed. She never looked into it and never got back with us. Like I said, this is NOT the first time this has happened. I went there other times in the past and I have ordered the SPECIAL and had to get my food to go because my lunch break was over, the food takes forever. I only received 10% off my order that day.... but wait.... are you ready for the EXCUSE that day... They ran out and had to wait for the truck to get there!!!!!!!! No one.... I mean NO ONE told us, that is what was wrong and we could have ordered something else. We sat down and ordered our food and had to get it to go 50-55 minutes later because they FAILED to tell us that. I do NOT recommend this place to eat if you are on your lunch break or in a time crunch. The food is good, but never for the sacrifice of waiting for 30-55 minutes for food and sorry excuses EVERY. I will never eat here again ! Our waitress, a short medium sized young girl with a pony tail should not be working there at all. We ordered our son chicken tenders, when I opened the box there was only one and a very tiny one!!! My Philly cheesesteak was awful, the meat was burned to a crisp. I understand things like this happened so I called immediately to voice my concern to the manager who was so rude about it and argued with me about cooking it and putting it together himself!!!
