It's a classic older neighborhood diner with a counter and booth setup. There is parking around the building. I had the liver and onions with scrambled eggs which came with toast and country potatoes. Wifey had the sausage and eggs over easy. My liver was smothered with rough sliced al dente sweet onions and the liver was tender and tasty with a few sinew bits. The eggs had some black griddle bits and fluffy. There was a mass quantity of potatoes which I took most home. Service was attentive and timely. Although the menu features Mexican fare, the diner standard selections were extensive. Great family diner that I can't believe I never went to before even though I live not that far away and passed by dozens of times. I was there on a Friday morning and it was pretty empty. However, I imagine that on weekends its gets pretty crowded which was confirmed to me when I asked my server. They have an extensive menu with plenty of breakfast and Mexican breakfast items. My Denver omelet was massive, had a good amount of flavor and I couldn't even finish it. The pancakes were also fluffy and sweet. Really good, fast service. The food here is great, the service is also great. My only negative observation was the Asian manager and/or server was somewhat rude and not very friendly. She seemed to try and say something to our server who hadn't done anything wrong. It appeared that she didn't like her being very friendly to us. I saw an advertisement for their caldo de res and albondigas soup coming with a side of rice and tortillas deal, so I figured I'd try it since its on my way home from work. I called ahead but I was already close, so I figured I would need to wait about 10min or so till it was ready. When I walked in, I smelled that diner smell, the aroma of many things cooking! I missed that smell since I havent been to a diner lately. I walked up to the register and said I would pay first but it was already packaged and ready for me. That was quick. When I got home, Hubby got the albondigas, I got the res, but Hubby immediately compared those albondigas to my home cooked ones. Saying that it tasted like it was missing something. I tasted it and I knew right away it was missing caraway seasoning and tomato sauce. I'm not sure I would order this again. It was $18, just for one! We were in town for an appointment & was on our way out and decided to get breakfast so got on of course Yelp which never disappoints:) found this place. Got seated fast which was good since we had a long drive. Hubby got the Machaca beans & rice. He said it was lil bland. I got a basic breakfast eggs bacon hash browns & side of pancakes which was very good & part of the side option! But the bacon had a weird taste to it idk.. when we got bill the waitress seemed offended that we didn't want anything boxed up. Well for one I don't eat that much & two we had a long 3 1/2 + drive & not gonna have food in our truck that long unless it's Prime Steak!! The ambiance was cool old fashion. I went to breakfast with a girlfriend who lives near this restaurant. She told me that their Mexican breakfasts were really good. We both ordered chilaquiles. I ordered mine with green sauce. She ordered hers with red sauce, as the waitress said the red sauce was milder. When I took the first bite of my chilaquiles with green sauce, I needed a sip of water! Talk about spicy!!! My girlfriend didn't even want to taste mine since she can't handle really spicy food. I tasted some of her chilaquiles with red sauce, and they were much milder. I preferred my spicy chilaquiles! The portion sizes were enormous! Unfortunately, I didn't love the rice and beans, but my chilaquiles were delicious. The service was top notch! In search of Menudo, we took our 93 year old Mom/Grandma to Tommy's. She was so happy to eat the soft and perfectly seasoned tripe soup, which she had been craving. The rest of the family ordered burritos, a beef taquito plate and a combo plate with Chile relleno and enchiladas. All generous portions (I forgot to take pictures.). Our server was attentive and quick with taking our orders. We munched on chips and salsa. Then our food was served hot and without much wait. This was my first time having dinner at Tommy's in decades. There are a few televisions showing different sports games. My wife and I haven't been to Tommy's Family Restaurant for years this is our first time in years. We were surprised interior looks different more modern we like it. We came here to have breakfast then we got seated right away then the hostess hand us the menu. My wife was looking at the menu then she decided order a bowl of albondiga soup and then she order a chorizo plate then I order chili Verde with egg on top. They brought the food fast and the food looks really good then I took a bite of chili Verde with pork it was amazing good and it have a kick to it mean it was spicy but good. The rice and bean were very good lots of flavors in the rice and bean including the eggs it add more flavor to the meal. Although I love tommys but today was probably my last time coming here. Came in for breakfast with my sister and she ordered a roast beef sandwich and she didn't like it she barely ate any of the sandwich. Now I understand I work in the restaurant business too. If a guest doesn't like the food we comp the meal. So if my sister barely ate the food why isn't her meal comp? Waitress tried to sweet small talk thinking I didn't notice. I chose to pay the full amount but I think she's in the complete wrong and it's an utter disgrace. When I wanted to talk she walked away. People shouldn't have to pay for something they don't like. Hadn't been here in about a decade. Yes it's remodeled. But yes there's a but, the food quality is a NO, ordered an omelette with fruit.. they charge extra. Okay fine. But canned fruit ????? We came in town for the night & was headed back home 3 1/2 hr drive so found this place for breakfast on of course Yelp :)!! It got pretty good reviews so we had to try. Hubby got machca beans & rice . Was ok was a lil bland he said.I got the basic breakfast eggs bacon hash browns. The bacon had a different kind of taste wasent to good at least for me. What I did like but couldn't finish was the pancakes pretty good. Was nice I had that choice to pick pancakes with my meal :) lil pricey though. We both ordered traditional breakfasts to include the usual ham, eggs, toast and the most amazing shredded potatoes cooked to perfection! We both wanted crispy potatoes and that's what we got. My partner got french toast and she said they were spot on. The coffee was hot, fresh and there was no end to the refills. The menu includes all kinds of Mexican dishes as well. If only we lived in the area, we'd surely try them out! Eating area is truly set up as a diner. Very open, cozy and a variety of types of seating, including counter-eats-style. Nice family atmosphere is tangible! The staff chatting and interacting with the patrons is such a great vibe. Makes you feel like you're hanging out for lunch with family. A casual, down home comfort food diner which also specializes in Mexican American dishes, such as Cocido, albondigas and menudo. What I often get is albondigas, which comes in two sizes, and is a great light lunch or snack. The meatballs are good; it includes potatoes, carrots, celery with a mild flavor. It comes with a side of Mexican rice and tortillas. Highly recommended. I have also frequently ordered the shredded beef crispy tacos, which are also good. Previously they sold this taco a la carte, where you could order just one, but recently I believe you can only order this in a plate. Breakfast specials are also good. Service is friendly and good, although they do get very busy at times. Ambience is also cheerful. There are large booths, and in the past, I have often brought my laptop and plugged it into the outlet to do some work in a relaxed atmosphere. We've also had many lunch and dinner meetings here. It's a place frequented by many locals, and if you've been going there over the years, you're bound to run into friends and acquaintances from time to time! Partner and I came by after a Kaiser office visit, and we were looking for breakfast. I love old school diners, and this definitely had the vibe. I saw that there were some comments about the service being subpar, but that was not our experience. Our server was very friendly and helpful (although she seemed a bit overwhelmed). I did have to ask for the tortillas that supposedly came with my meal and was told that some customers wanted it and some did not. We asked for eggs over medium and they came out pretty easy, very runny (which is fine, it was still delicious). Parking was in the lot, but it was full when we went. Street parking was easy. I get it she's busy so I gave her a pass When it was time to order food I was placing my beverage order with her and I guess she was annoyed that I was ordering drinks and not food so she abruptly and rudely skips my entree order and starts taking my brother's order. My brother had to tell her that I wasn't done ordering. She begrudgingly comes back to me but at this point it was just weird.
