This is such a cute place that is close to campus and has really solid food. We got some burritos last time we came here. Service was friendly and not fussy, food is not fussy and very solid, the salsas are in a squeeze bottle with the tip cut off to allow for more volume of salsa.... it's great. Stopped here after moving my son into his dorm at CSULA. Food was really good, hot and fresh. Prices weren't bad. Haven't been back in 5 years since moving away. Was back in the area and stopped in. Ordered my usual cheese enchiladas. Nice to find that the presentation and flavors are still as delicious as they were before. They serve their chips with bottles of homemade salsa which is a great idea. You can apply I individually to each chip as you eat it, or douse all the chips at one! Definitely try the green salsa--it tastes like avocado and salsa! The ambiance is very chill, you can listen to their tunes or have a conversation without that overly excessive music other restaurants have. I recommend you try their menudo. Thanks to y'all we ended up at Las Ranas Cafe. Parking is not the best but we worked it out. We walked in and were seated instantly. From the outside the place looked small but once in, we found a nice table that seated four comfortably and was super clean. We were welcomed warmly and our order was taken immediately. We ordered pozole, taquitos, burritos, and fries. They served complimentary chips and salsas. The food arrived 10-15 minutes after we ordered. And it was served warmly by the server and I think the chef of the restaurant. All tasted delicious! It was the perfect meal on a cold day. We definitely got our Mexican food fix in. Second time here, and it is still so very good! Came here a couple of months ago and loved their chile relleno. This time, I tried the chilaquiles and it was good. It's a little on the tangier side for me, but it's still delicious. My husband grabbed the wet burrito with lengua. Let me tell you, the lengua is cooked so well. It was soooo good! The super nacho was so loaded and delicious as well. Only thing on preference side, we'd like to have some more cheese on this dish. The asada was flavorful, but I still enjoyed the lengua more that we should have topped the dish with it instead. Overall, we would be back again. She returned from the kitchen with a soup container and lid and placed it on the table. I informed her that I couldn't transfer the hot soup unless I had a ladle. Then we are to order my wife order the nopals with eggs and I decided to order the chilaquiles with eggs with green salas. He brought our meal it looks so good including my chilaquiles with eggs. I took a bite of my chilaquiles they were so good it feel like homemade like moms cooking that's I remember. The green Salas was was incredible it tangy and with little bit of heat that remind me home cooking. The rice and beans were so good with flavor including the eggs and also comes with bread excellent for dipping the bread in the green salas that I like. My wife enjoy her nopals with eggs she say it like home cooking also. Before we order our meal the owner brought chips and two type of salsa we enjoy the green salas. I had the three chicken taquitos plate with beans and rice and my children had the California burrito. We all three had the Horchata. They start you off with a basket of chips and two squeeze bottles of salsa. One green and one red. Both were good but our favorite was the green. The chips also had a few red and green chips to add color to the basket. The horchata was made from scratch. Not too much ice and the large glass was truly a large take home cup. I thought it was the best horchata I have had in a long time. My children agreed. The burritos were quite large and my children ate every bite because they were so good. They chose Carne Asada for their meat and both exclaimed it was delicious, the fries in the burritos were hot and crunchy. It seemed like half the burrito was meat. As for my chicken taquitos, they were freshly made. Served piping hot. The corn tortillas seemed homemade. They were filled with a generous portion of chicken. They were yummy. I've had bigger and less expensive from other branded restaurant as well as food truck, the service was so, so the waitress was not very attentive, as far as the ambience it was satisfactory, however, I would not recommend this restaurant due to the portions of food and the price points, and maybe the chef should check the flavor of the food and make sure it is not over salted. If you want a fantastic Mexican meal, this is what you're looking for. Mom & pop food by people who care. I had the super nachos for dinner (It's in the appetizers list) and it looked gorgeous and tasted even better. My friend had the syncronizadas (like a quesadilla) and he raved. The service was also terrific as the woman kept stopping by to make sure we liked everything and we had everything we needed. I hope you like cilantro 'cuz they use a lot. Unfortunately, I've been tested and I have the gene that makes cilantro taste like wax. I had to work around it as best as I could.
