Strongly suspect this is an unlicensed massage operation. I requested a 60 minute massage to include neck and head. The massage was completely random, no bilateral symmetry. And before I knew it I was slathered in oil all over my back. The massager did not speak a word of english, and he obviously completely ignored the details of the request. He did not touch my head, but he did massage my lower legs. I very specifically requested only head and neck. The massage table looked like something purchased at a yard sale. Instead of a clean white sheet covering the table he used a crocheted blanket. Unfortunately, we were running super late but they were still so kind to take us. They had so many different nail color choices - all organic/vegan. After I chose my color, I got settled into their massage chair and my nail tech got to work. I love getting pedicures because I feel so pampered, especially here. She did a great job and always checked in with me about the water heat, making sure the massage chair was working etc. She was efficient and my nails looked great! I forgot to bring flip flops, and since I went with the regular nail polish instead of gel, my nails weren't going to be fully dry/set for an hour or so. They put oil on my nails, covered my feet with plastic wrap and put my socks on so that I could wear my crocs without messing up my nails. I really appreciated that extra step. Walked in around 1:00pm on Wednesday with my daughter, but they were busy so asked me to came back at 3:00. I went back earlier around 2:30, and they just let us got seated without making us waiting another 30 mins. They quickly helped my daughter (3yo) did the nail first. They were very carefully put the nail polish on her, even made a little flower art on the nail which is so cute! My daughter was so happy! After done with her nail, and it's my turn. I did manicure gel, and I love it. The lady put at least 4-5 layers on my nails, (usually other places only put 2 layers) so they looked thick and bright! Taking a trip to the podiatrist ASAP. Got a pedicure somewhere else and as they removed my nail polish the tech found a white spot on my left big toe. Picture for reference. Also while removing my gel-x set, the manicurist told me a tech should not file down your nails first with gel-x. At least not with a big drill bit. So now I'm stuck with a possible toe nail infection and uneven finger nail beds with ridges. The nail tech recommended I not get anything else done till my nails are stronger. Gel x is supposed to be a healthier option for my nails. Had I been fine with so much damage I should have gotten acrylic at the chop shop instead. My partner and I paid about $200 total for manis/pedis. For those prices I'd rather go to Tiffany's in San Leandro. I'm sad to write this bc the first time I went Emily was amazing and knew what she was doing. The older woman that works there was the person who did my nails and toes. I didn't catch her name. I usually get a basic manicure and pedicure when I go to nail salons, but this time I ventured out from my routine and got gel nails. And I'm 100% glad that I did! I'm quite satisfied with the outcome. First off, my nails were filed evenly (I've been to numerous places where the filing is so sloppy; I'm glad that Tomo actually cares). My technician was very precise when applying the polish, applying 2 coats of polish and 2 coats of top coat, and made sure to remove any polish that was on the skin. The outcome was beautiful and near perfect, dare I say. For my pedicure, I got the spa pedicure package that included a sugar scrub. The procedure was pretty standard. I do wish that my technician scrubbed my legs a little longer and with more effort. Nonetheless, the polish looked great in the end. I went it yesterday on 030618. I had 40% off through 5 stars. I read reviews that there are no prices listed so I called ahead to see what it would be. The receptionist said $34.20 got gel manicure and reg pedicure with the discount. Once I'm sitting in the chair the manicurist then tells me that it's a $5 charge to remove the gel. I don't like places that do that because that should be apart of the manicure. It should only be a charge if I were getting it removed and getting no other services. Both ladies then tried to tell me that there's a charge for the brand, which made no sense. I saw skin being removed but it seemed like they barely picked at my cuticles. They do a scrub on your legs that was nice as well as the massage. I wouldn't pay regularly price for the Mani pedi. I made an appt and it was empty upon arrival so I was out within an hour. They also have gift certificates that can used for massage, mani or pedi. I was introduced to Tomo's through a Groupon deal for a regular manipedi and overall, I think that the Groupon pricing is fair. I might hesitate on paying full price for their nail services unless you can request a specific technician who you know does work to your liking. My general takeaways: Pro: RSVPing a specific time that worked for me over the phone was easy. When I came in, I was seen promptly to a spa pedicure chair after choosing my colors. At the end, the Groupon was accepted with no issues and there was no pressure for tips. Con: I get that sometimes excess cuticle removal can be tricky, but hopefully I was just unlucky and nipping a customer on a toe cuticle clean isn't a common occurrence here... Pro: To expedite the service, I had one technician work on my pedicure and another working on my mani off to the side all while I was sitting on the spa chair. That's efficient! Con: Even though the lady who did my manicure was amazing at shaping my nails to a wonderfully even almond shape, in the end she didn't take the time to acetone brush the edges of the nail polish to take care of some of the rough edges of the paint. Obviously, these rough edges shortened the life of my mani considerably (it started to peel in about a week 'n a half...sad!). In contrast, my pedi polish is still essentially perfectly intact (except for where my nail naturally grew) with no peeling or chips more than a month later! Tomo's gets the job done, but there are plenty other nail salons in the area in the same price range (if you're going in sans coupon). read more

This guy was was horrible! did some weird stretches, held his finger in one spot, didn't actually move his hands around! i called the front desk lady and she had to explain to him how to do it and he still didn't understand! I've gone to several nail salons in Alameda over the years prior to going to Tomo For Nail and Mini Spa but was never fully satisfied by the consistency of the end results and costumer service. I am SO happy and relieved I found Tomo For Nail. I've been going here for over 2 years and have had nothing but great experiences. I did have an issue once but Emily helped fix it the following day. All the staff are sincere, genuine and really hard working. They take their time to get the job done right, pays a lot of attention to detail, deliver consistent end result and are really enjoyable to talk with. They take pride in their work and ensure the customer is fully satisfied and happy with their nails. My manicures are always beautiful, symmetrical, flawless and lasts a long time. I always feel super relaxed while I'm at this salon, often times to the point where I just want to stay longer and take a nap! I've had mini massages here by Peter and he is also excellent. This is definitely the nail salon to be going to. I'd give it 10 stars if Yelp allowed me to. On a side note, during the pandemic, I started coming back to this nail salon in May. They take proper health precautions such as, temperature checks upon entry, (they are still doing that up to date: Jul 2021), kindly asks customers to please sanitize their hands and all staff are still wearing masks. I only wish I had read the reviews before going here. I saw a Groupon deal for their gel manicure and spa pedicure and thought $39 for both is pretty decent! Well, not worth the deal. It took them an hour and forty five minutes to get my nails done. Now, as part of getting your nails done, it is understood that old nail polish will need to be taken off. It's what we are paying for, to change the polish. You can imagine my surprise and honestly confusion when I was asked to pay for removal of my old polish. This ruined the entire experience for me. They don't have actual nail stations for manicures, so the manicures are done at the pedicure chairs. I guess that requires skills too, but when seated at a slant, pretty sure the nails can be shaped weird too. They don't have the best collection of colors. I have been to this salon twice. BOTTOM LINE. STAY AWAY if you want to have a gel manicure that includes a good cuticle removal, and gel that DOES NOT CHIP AFTER THREE DAYS!!! Gel does not do that unless it was not properly applied. Both manicurists served me, I thought it was just the first one who didn't know how to properly apply and CURE gel, but its both of them. The second time I went, had the same results I gave two chances...... Manager did what people do, when they do not want to take responsibility, tell the customer that maybe it is their nails. I didn't know I would be flinching in pain. He never asked me what level of pressure I wanted. His english is limited, so it was difficult to communicate. I guessed I was supposed to get into certain positions or turnover by one word utterances and gestures. Its funny how rough he was on my neck area, which could have ALMOST felt good because of his thoroughness, but it was just too hard. I kept having to hold back laughing as I flinched in pain, thinking that as rough as he was, he just may pull out a tendon in my neck The front desk area was noisy which was distracting. The receptionist and a waiting client were talking about dim-sum and other things. The large room echoes. The receptionist was initiating conversation as well. Just very distracting. Although the distraction from my overworked neck might have been a blessing in disguise. In the future I will ask for someone else. If you want a very hard massage, Michael would be one to ask for. My aunt invited my sister and I as a sort of a girls day out and you can't beat the price at the moment which is buy 4 get 1 free and very reasonable for a 50 minute massage. There are 6 massage lounge chairs and each has a box for you to put your belongings. The only clothing you have to remove are your socks and shoes. They soak your feet in a tub of hot water while they give you a massage. I think it all depends on what kind of massage you enjoy and I have tried several massage therapists and types of massage. If you want a massage with strong hands, fingers and pressure, this is the kind of massage for you. The spa offers Chinese-style massage - some combination of acupressure, shiatsu and reflexology. I told the massage therapist, Den to be gentle as I have sensitive muscles/bones. I usually go for a relaxing Swedish massage elsewhere but this is definitely NOT a Swedish. It is rather intense, starting with a pressured massage of your skull, gentle massage of face and neck, arms, hands, legs and feet. The foot massage for the most part was rather relaxing and he used lotion to massage but when he got to my back and shoulders, I was in pain. because this kind of massage is rather strong and intense. During the back and shoulder massage I got rather tense and Den asked me if I was ok and I told him to be more gentle. So if you like that type of strong pressure, this is the place for you. My aunt and sister thought it was the most relaxing massage they've had. I think it all depends on what kind of massage does relax you. For them it was this kind of strong pressurized massage. Since for some reason, their website doesn't list any prices or services, I called to ask how much a pedi was. The receptionist told me about the spa pedi which was $18 and their Luxury pedi which was $31. She stated the luxury pedi included paraffin, callous removal and hot stone massage. Since I was going in with 40% off, i figured $18 was a great deal and decided to treat myself. I made an appt. When I arrived, I considered getting a gel mani too since I had a 40% off promo. I asked for the price and was told $21. Cool, so 40% off that would be about $12. Let's do that too! The service itself was good. I didn't care for the hot stone massage and actually prefer a regular one since I can get my calf muscles kneaded. I never received a callus treatment even though that was the main reason why I wanted the upgrade. The gel mani was basic...the massage I received for the mani was nice and strong which I liked...only wish it would've lasted longer. When it came time to check out, the receptionist told me my total was $45. What?! I asked for the breakdown and told her that when I called, I was told it's $31 for a luxury pedi. She said that that's the price after the 30% off promo they're having for the month of May. The REAL price is actually $45. And the REAL price of the gel mani is actually $35. Crazy! I would never spend $45 on a pedi no matter how many hot stones you want to rub on my legs! I mean, I know Park St rent is more expensive but geez! FYI for those curious...their standard spa pedi is $27....without any discounts. The ambiance is not all that great, since you do hear all the Park st vehicle and foot traffic along with a lot of slapping and pounding from the massages going on in the back of the room. So I'm thinking that when people call asking for prices, the receptionist should say "the pedi is normally xyz but after a 30% promo we have going on, the discounted price would be abc". That's just being thorough, detailed and HONEST for the customer. My advice to you if you have a promo code, is to tell them up front that you have a promo code and then ask what the price would be AFTER the discount.
