The food and service was good. But when it came to my kids food we ordered her the kids macaroni and cheese. When it showed up to the table it looked good but it had jalapenos in it. So we asked the server to take it back and get her another one. She came back with the same one saying the owner just changed it up that all the macaroni and cheese going to have Jalapeno in it. She said that she didn't know that they did that . But she was very nice and offered her another Meal and took off the other one. So if you take your kids to eat there and they what the macaroni and cheese make sure to ask if it has jalapenos in it. read more

Epic Fail!!!! I hardly ever complain about bad service but these ppl were rude... I came in this facility, no was was at the greeting station or said anything until I got to the ordering window... no welcoming spirit at all, are you dinning in or take out? As I looked at the menu on the blackboard, I said I'll eat at the bar... he said just sit down and I'll bring you a menu.... he really don't know me and what I will do to him with his poor customer service(no violence intended)... so I sat at the bar for 7-9 min watching at least 3-5 ppl get help and no one says a word to me, btw not even the lady that was tending the bar..... the young man who was there(I won't say work), did bring me water....it's hard not to use the race card so I won't but I was the only person of color(BLACK) there, this place left a bad taste in my mouth and a hungry stomach.... I will never ever go there again, the Toms on Southern was wayyyyy different and customer service was superb, but if this is the treatment that is served out, I'll go to a gas station and buy a hot dog and be happy!!!!!! Just went for the first time and I was really impressed for the most part. The wait staff was very pleasant and very helpful. Fiance and I shared the 3 meat combo. We chose rib tips, brisket, and chicken. It also came with 2 sides and I believe the cost for that was around $12.99. We chose 2 orders of fries for our sides and were disappointed with those. They were dark brown like they were sitting in the oil too long and they were also tastless. Next time we will get mashed potatoes instead. The chicken and brisket were delicious but I personally didn't like the rib tips because they tasted like rubber. All in all we will be back again sometime to give it another shot. read more

This is my second yelp ever... I had to say something about this BBQ. It is most definitely in my opinion the worst I've ever had. I got the 3 meat meal...pulled pork, brisket and sausage w mac n cheese and cornbread as the sides. For 20 bucks the serving size was far from the quantity for the price. The flavor was lacking severely with all the meats and the sausage was pale. I hoped the mac n cheese would be better...I am so sad I want to cry! Mac n Cheese is my FAVORITE food!!!! Can someone tell me if the mac n cheese is the Kraft Shells n Cheese?? It was runny, no flavor, looks and tastes like the Mac n cheese I used to but for my kid when she was young. I have experienced what I consider the best BBQ at JL Smokehouse in South Phoenix...others agree as he was voted best BBQ 2018 and his sides are to die for, it's worth the drive but he is closed on Sunday so I stopped by Toms. I am very dissatisfied, very disappointed and will never return. read more

My husband and I were going to get an appetizer and then order a sandwich. We ordered the BBQ Nacho's and couldn't eat any more! It was a PILE of food!!!! The owner, Rick, came out and talked with us, he offered to let us try their "burnt ends" Fabulous! Then our awesome waitress, Amanda, came back with a piece of fish for us to try, phenomenal! We left with a to go box of a burnt end sandwich, a fish sandwich and an order of fried pickles. And a bottle of their BBQ sauce. Their food is amazing, the staff is terrific and friendly. Sarah's my sister and we ate there together the other day . I specifically asked for my beef to be extra extra juicy, with giardiniera...and it came out exactly as requested....enough so that I had to use a knife and fork to eat most of it. The fries were really yummy too, and the service was fast and friendly. Definitely not training table food, but an authentic and delicious taste of the homeland right here in Mesa, AZ. Excellent food and service. We enjoyed this great food at a wedding this past weekend. Set up very nicely done. I really liked being able to choose the sauce. The three sauce choices, mild, hot and gluten sugar free. Great choices, great sauce and pulled pork. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5, I would have liked an alternative to the potato salad. Allergy to eggs. I would have added potato chips as well as a normal part of the plate. Well done, very reasonable, well set up. Staff was great, friendly, nice, accomadating, fast. Probably the fasted wedding food service I've ever seen. I didn't hear one negative comment from guest. I would recommend for any party, event or wedding. read more

Toms seems to have been dropping in quality over the past few years. I keep wanting to go back in the hope that it will be as good as it used to be but it just isn't. This visit will probably be my last. The bun on the pork sandwich was stale beyond belief. I had a Maxwell Street Polish. The grilled onions were still crunchy and the sausage was so dried out it almost had the texture of jerky. The fried pickles were nothing to write home about. I was very unimpressed with the service, the lack of interest that the staff showed to making the meal what we wanted and the quality left much to be desired. I asked to substitute a meat (willing to pay extra if necessary) and the staff would not make exceptions (even when we offered to pay more for the upgrade). We first came here on a whim and haven't been able to stop going back. The staff was so nice on our first visit and even let us sample some of the fish, that, is delicious! All the ladies that work here are sweet, unique and know customer service. We just love the bartenders pink boots, how the other girls wear flowers in their hair and have pizzazz. I ordered the smoked chicken dinner for take out and it was terrible! The chicken was extremely dry and flavorless, despite being completely doused in BBQ sauce. I was starving, so I ate the instant mashed potatoes and cole slaw that came as my side dishes, but the chicken was inedible, so I ended up making some buttered noodles instead. This location of Tom's is like my "Cheers" go to place. There is always a friendly smile waiting for you and a good vibe. We are fond of their fish fry, and during the cold snap we had a few weeks back, my daughter and I stopped there on a chilly Friday night. We were asked if it was okay to sit on the heated patio, as the inside tables were full. Another couple also came after us and they were also seated outside. The manager and waitresses surrounded us with heaters and warmers, but that night the wind was just not cooperating, and after all of their best efforts and attentiveness, it still was chilly. The manager came out to our tables and told both parties that he would be taking 20% off of our bills to thank us for putting up with the inconvenience of being chilly! I thought that was an awesome move, as we had agreed to sit there in the first place. Still my go-to place for my favorites: fish fry, bbq rib tips, and nachos with pulled pork on homemade potato chips! read more

Dang it, I hate writing bad reviews. Especially when the staff is so friendly and the service is great. But it looks like the owner or manager actually reads the reviews, and I think the problems are fixable, so here goes. So, this was our first visit to Tom's BBQ, after driving past it for years. Finally decided to give it a shot. Very friendly staff, seated us immediately, took our orders. I've never tried Chicago style BBQ, so kept an open mind. I ordered the Saturday special which was St. Louis style smoked ribs with two sides. Was disappointed they didn't have collard greens or okra, but I guess that's a southern thing. So I got corn on the cob and mac & cheese. It also came with a dinner roll. My dining partner ordered the smoked chicken platter with baked beans & potato salad. Everything came pretty quickly, which was awesome cuz we were HUNGRY. But my first complaint is they serve everything on styrofoam plates with plastic knives & forks. Ugh! So not environmentally friendly. I was glad they gave us the sauce on the side. Two different sauces - one spicy, one mild - so I could use just as much as I wanted. The smoke flavor of the ribs was good, however I must admit the meat was rather dry. My corn was fine, but I was disappointed they didn't give me real butter. They use those little Land o Lakes tubs (more plastic for the landfill) and it was margarine. Is that a Chicago thing? Blech. The Mac & cheese was shells with a cheesy sauce like velveeta and it had a warmth to it like maybe some kinda jalapeño thing, which is not my bag. Again, sorry if that's a Chicago thing. My partner's baked beans were fine (he says "I thought they were decent", which is high praise from him), and he really liked the potato salad and the corned bread ("a little dry, but the flavor was good"), but...and this is a BIG but...his smoked chicken came pre-sliced, which I thought was odd. He told me afterward it was processed chicken meat! Not cut from a whole chicken! Is that Chicago style?? Forgive my ignorance if it is, but that was a real turn off. During happy hour they have freshly made potato chips for a dollar. These are excellent. We have been here several times and everything has been above average. Service is good, they are short on ambience but the rest of the experience more than makes up for it. read more
