The pulled pork was decent but lacked flavor on its own; the BBQ sauce did most of the work. Unfortunately, the sides were the biggest disappointment. The jalapeño mac and cheese tasted like Velveeta with jalapeños mixed in, and the mashed potatoes came across as bland and leftover. Their food is pretty good but not great. The brisket is good as is their pulled pork. What they have over every other BBQ joint is a good Chicago dog and great French fries. There are places with better bbq but only if you're willing to drive a good distance. If you're looking for a dog and fries this is the place. They have a pretty good beef gravy so one day I need to try their Italian beef. On this day I got the sliced brisket and my wife got the Italian sausage. We both enjoyed the meal. The price for lunch though is pretty steep. Especially without drinks. The service is order at the counter but you have to ring a bell to get a person because they only have two people working. Toma should be a bigger deal than it is. I've went here 3 times, and am finally writing a review. I've got something different all 3 times and it was all solid. Is it the best bbq? No. But it is HUGE portions, at a solid price, with great service and a very large menu. Where else can you get solid bbq, burgers, hot dogs, good catfish in Chandler? Incredible food. We have loved everything we have tried so far ! the buffalo wings are Incredible. The burgers are so so good! The pulled pork sandwich is mouth watering! To make it even better the desserts at the end ! They are all great but The key lime pie is my favorite and so delicious it tastes homemade! The employees also are all great people and give us amazing service every time we go in. The restaurants ambiance is BBQ and vintage style I love all the coke signs they have on the walls and it feels like a home cooked meal every time you get served. The BBQ is average, definitely not the best. The sides are very mediocre and do not complement the meat at all. It seems like very low effort from this establishment. Adam and Kevin, Thank you guys!!! On my way from an event decided to stop here as it, didn't appear to be busy which I wanted food quickly and to go. It was super fast service!!! It's a Family establishment in which Adam gave me the history of the establishment in 2.2 seconds! That Kid is going places in life!!! I had the rib tips, Mac n cheese with baked beans(recommended by Adam) which also came with a bun. All of it was good! The ribs fell off of the bones and were way better without the sauce. I wasn't a fan of the BBQ sauce as it was vinegary but the food was good without it! I definitely recommend eating here. There's lots of free parking, a great location and has plenty of seating inside. The prices are comparable to any BBQ establishment so nothing to crazy but, is pretty standard for today's restaurants since covid. My only advice would be to wear mask and gloves to protect yourselves and the customers regardless of vaccinations. read more

We order food to go and didn't notice until we got home that they gave us only three small and narrow strips of Beef Brisket that where about 80 % fat. It was disgusting .We also ordered pull-up pork and it didn't have any flavor, it tasted like boiled pork because the barbecue sauce wasn't enough and only on the surface but not inside .For a side dish we got mash potato, it wasn't good or bad just something warm to eat . I went here late afternoon so it wasn't very busy. The guy behind the counter gave off stoner vibes but took my order quickly and answered my questions. He brought out my order of fried catfish, fries, hush puppies, cornbread and peach cobbler. Despite the weird reviews from others, I found the portions quite generous... So much that I took home leftovers. The fries tasted freshly made, and the catfish was very moist and hot. The cornbread was good as well. The peach cobbler was a bit of a let down, as there were lots of very sweet topping chunks, but underneath the peaches looked and tasted like they came from a can along with some spice. Random stop here with good results. The lunch specials are about 12 bucks each. I went with the BBQ chicken sandwich and besides the too dense brioche bun, this was a great sandwich. It was loaded with smoked chicken and a good mild BBQ sauce. The side dish was a very cheddary version and it was good enough, but would try something else next time. read more

My son and I were in the area and decided to try this place out. We love BBQ. My son ordered the pulled pork sandwich combo. He complained the meat was a bit dry. A lot of local restaurants don't marinate the meat in the sauce. I understand it allows customers to choose their sauce without the owners wasting meat marinated in a sauce customers may not be ordering. I loved my chicken and rib combo meal. It was the special of the day. I ate from it, at least, three times. The ribs were juicy and flavorful. The chicken was okay. It was a little dry. But, it was a huge piece with a lot of meat. The macaroni and cheese was nothing special. It's very cheesy and uses shell pasta. I prefer baked macaroni and cheese. The bbq beans were outstanding! The cornbread was fabulous. I didn't love the peach cobbler. It's one of my favorite desserts. It didn't have much bread/crust. I had to ask for the cobbler and show my receipt because the gentleman who served us didn't bring it out. The only other issue was that the same gentleman also tried to bring us food that wasn't ours numerous times. Since orders are placed at the counter, they may want to hand out numbers or take names as customers are placing orders. The restaurant is clean and has plenty of seating. It didn't take long to receive our food. I'd definitely go back. The menu is expansive so there are a lot of options we have yet to try. read more

I rarely eat meat as i'm a vegetarian 5-6 days/week due to health rather than morality (I have no morals). However, during my adventure times, all rules go to the toilet. I missed old fashioned Texas BBQ while I was in the Lone Star so might as well settle for Texas-Style BBQ in Arizona. And I am happy that this decision was made. Food: B. Rib Tips - Yummy. Slipped right off the bone. Grilled Chicken - Dry as expected. The sliced version makes it convenient to eat. Pork Ribs - Tasted rushed as the meat didn't slide off easily. This just means longer roasting but due to the traffic and re-opening, I am sure the demand was nuts & unanticipated. I will try again in the future. Potato Salad - Good. Not inundated with the commercialized mayo and salt. You can actually see and taste the potatoes. BBQ Beans - OMFG~! The best side that I have tried. The flavors and baked beans were just perfecto. Cole Slaw - On the raw/dry side which is my preference. I don't want to eat a mayo cabbage salad. Adding the Tom's pepper sauce made it much better. Fried Mushrooms - Juicy and deep fried. Comes w/ ranch but I preferred these with no sauce. Tom's Hot BBQ Sauce - Has a good peppery kick to compliment the sweet or mild OG bbq sauce. Tom's Gluten+Sugar Free BBQ Sauce - Toned down version of the OG BBQ sauce. I don't understand anyone who would use this sauce as the restaurant in itself isn't meant for people who have gluten issues, diabetics or with other sugar issues. If you have certain diseases or conditions (and chances are you are healthier than I ever will be) then Tom's is not an ideal place to eat. The food is highly fatty, carb-filled, high salt, etc. Tom's Chicago Habanero Pepper Sauce - Water downed, peppery variation of the OG bbq sauce. Tom's OG BBQ Sauce - Sweeeeeeeeeeet~! Very sweet. As if the sauce contains a pound of honey and sugar per serving. The sauce goes well with the grilled chicken & I think i would prefer the hot bbq sauce on the pork meats. Service: A. Counter/Self serve. No wait-staff even though a friendly floater is available to accomodate. Potions: A. Gigantic. Should fill any fatty to satisfaction. Pricing: C. Expensive for what is provided. The pricing is similar or higher than traditional fine dining eateries. Parking/Accessibility: In a mall on the eastern side. Parking lot is plenty, but, convenient parking is not so good. May have to walk a bit which is good to burn off some calories/fat later on. Location: Chandler aka Southeast Phoenix. We have always looked forward to ordering from Tom's. We go for the fish and chips, brisket and hot links. The last 3 visits they've had no hot links. This time they had no baked potatoes. The fried catfish was mostly cornmeal crust and very little fish, dry and overcooked. The french fries were also overcooked and very chewy. I got it home and opened the container to bbq sauce all over the meat, which tasted horrible and has a overwhelming smell of way to much of a spice. But the food- The corn on the cob was mushy, like it had been boiled hours before, and the taste was absent The cornbread was good on the edge, but undercooked towards the middle The brisket had a weird almost chemical taste that made me think the product was prepared a day or two in advance and pre-sliced for portions because it was dry too The pulled pork was mushy, the meat didn't have any body to it The Mac and cheese was runny and the noodles were overcooked, it tasted packaged. Driest BBQ Brisket EVER. Ordered the loaded potato with brisket, a brisket sandwich, and a side of onion rings. YIKES! The potato seemed reheated as it was hard at the bottom and dry. The brisket was a generous portion, but it too was dry, and no amount of butter, cheese, or sour cream was helpful. The sandwich was also pretty dry, starting with the bun. It was beyond day old, and the brisket was dryer than the Arizona desert. I poured the ranch dressing that came with the onion rings over the brisket, but it didn't help. Now on to the onion rings. Double YIKES, the batter was thick, very thick, pancake batter thick, they came out very dark, not golden like the photo would suggest, which leads me to believe that the oil had not been changed in a while, it also tasted like fish. This place isn't bad, it's just not great. I usually find myself eating here as an alternative to the usual fast food places in the area to try something different. My favorite meal there is the western burger, but one thing that would make this burger be great is to flame broil the beef patty. Also, the onion rings, while fried fresh are usually lacking some batter or onions are too big. The fresh cut fries are really good...pairs well with a side of ranch or BBQ sauce. Ordered food to go at lunch time. The young man who took my order was friendly and kind. I ordered two meals, a brisket dinner and a baked potato w/brisket. I asked for extra potato toppings, which I was charged for (no problem) and I asked for extra bbq sauce. While I was waiting for my food to be made, I walked over to the condiment area (with serve yourself large bottles of bbq sauce), which is open to the kitchen. A lady in the kitchen starting loudly complaining about my ordering extra condiments and they need to start charging for extras and how ridiculous it was. I was a bit shocked by how loudly she was ranting. Especially since I paid for the extra potato toppings and there are large bottles of self serve bbq sauce right there in the restaurant for everyone to help themselves. So I'm not sure what she was so upset about. But anyway, the food was okay. The brisket had a lot of fat (which I like!) but the meat was very salty and dry.
