Good food, in a sort of diner atmosphere. Nice selection of offerings. The wait staff is excellent. Our party of four came for dinner, and we were seated quickly, and our drinks were brought in short order. I selected the "Mile High Meatloaf," and it was very tasty. It came with mashed potatoes and was topped with onion rings. My wife had the Chicken Souvlaki salad, which she loved. My friend Paul ordered the BBQ Ham sandwich that came with fries. He thoroughly enjoyed it. His wife, Elaine, got the Chicken Souvlaki salad and she said it was very good. The portion sizes were large! We were all very satisfied with our meals. read more

Fairly easy to get to off I-90, good parking. Inside is spacious with plenty of seating and a classic diner feel. A friendly greeting started my visit off right! I was seated immediately and my waitress, Alyssa, was prompt in taking my drink and food order. I ordered several side dishes including home fries. I normally get two order and I am so glad I only got one. It was huge! My bacon was perfectly done and side salad was just right and made to my specifications. This place is a 3.5 for me. Big time old school diner. I loved the holiday decorations. They have a display box of pies that looked to die for. My client loved the Manhattan clam chowder. We loved the cottage cheese. The lettuce on the fish sandwich was limp but green. The fish had great flavor and was very moist. With that being said, there was no crisp or crunch to the fish fries. They kind of fell apart and were kind of mushy. My client struggled with the fish sandwich because it fell apart on him. He ate half of it with a fork because it fell out of the bun. Decided to try this local diner while on vacation based on its reviews and menu. Went early on a Friday evening. The parking lot was filled which I thought was a good sign. Was seated promptly. Staff was friendly to customers and amongst themselves which created a pleasant atmosphere. Ordered the Reuben and onion rings. Food arrived quickly and was very good. What a great place! We stopped here while traveling from Ontario to Ohio. This area has very few places right along the interstate but just a few miles in and you'll find Tom's Family Restaurant. Grabbed a fish fry from Tom's on a Friday night and really enjoyed it. It comes with a choice of potato, slaw, roll and a house made pasta salad. Just a older-style family restaurant that has all the items you'd expect on the menu. The dessert display featured some really great looking pies and other treats! This little diner outside of the reservation in Irving is the bomb! I started with chicken taco soup, homemade, with a nice heat that wasn't overpowering. I decided on the turkey a la king, over biscuits. Omg. Fabulous. Firstly, served piping hot, which is very important to me. The biscuits were buttery and flakey, and the gravy of the turkey a la king was very creamy but not heavy. Vegetables were carrots, corn, green beans. mushrooms. My girlfriend got the philley cheesesteak hoagie. The meat was tender and flavorful, loaded with onions mushrooms and sweet peppers. I wanted to get a quick take out dinner, and I THOUGHT that this was a great place-I thought wrong. When I got to the place, I was furiously looking for a separate take out entrance. I was trying to find one, and then realized there was not one, which is a huge inconvenience on their hands. When I walked into this place, I got verbally attacked with questions. 3 people asked me how many I had, and I kept on having to tell them that I'm here for takeout. I noticed the huge sea bass on the wall which made me hurl in my mouth a little, but I still needed my food. After telling multiple people that I'm just here for my takeout, a woman finally came with our takeout. She was scrambling to get our receipt, and after she noticed we were juveniles, she stated to get stressed out more. The receipt was crushed up and it was a mere disaster. When she gave me my bags, I quickly rushed out of the restaurant because it smelled like fish. I ordered 6 entrees, and only got 2 bags. I was a little confused and finally noticed that they were missing 2 meals. I was in such a rush, so I stormed back into the place. People then still continued to ask how many I had, and I was getting overly annoyed. When I alerted the woman about this, she did not use an inside voice. The whole entire restaurant could hear our conversation, which made me upset because I did not want people hearing my personal complaints. She told me it was MY fault that they screwed up our order. "You only told us one on the phone not 3," the woman stated. As you all may know, the consumer is always right, so this woman told me straight up lie. She told me it would take another 15 minutes. I did not have time for this inconvenience, but I still waited. Finally after about 20 minutes, I walked back in and was still asked how many I had. The girl threw the bags at me, and did not apologize for her malfunction. She did not give us a discount, and made us pay full price, even though they screwed up. At this point I was starving, and just wanted to leave. This was horrible, and took up so much time in my life-I could've been doing better stuff. I was very disappointed, because my grandpa was very hungry. Food was okay, napkins were limited, no sauce, and prices are high. Do not recommend. read more

After someone tried to make a drive through at this place - I had to go back and see what Tom had done with the place. It had been quite while since I had been there - so today was my return! The remodeled area (where the car drove in) was well done and really added a special touch to the establishment - let's hope Tom continues to update as needed without the help of another drive in! Let's get started - cleanliness was good throughout. Friendliness of staff - 100%. Menu selection and price - varied and large, but not too large that you get lost in the menu and the pricing is fantastic. Service and timing - you can't get much better! I had the Queen Prime with breaded shrimp, fresh green broccoli, Greek potatoes, side salad with french dressing and a roll. Way too much food for me, but everything tasted great. Point to remember, the staff congregate near the front, by the register and they are not afraid to laugh and carry on conversations fairly loud. I'd ask to be seated in the back dinning area - if you prefer to be out of the traffic and noise and away from the kitchen and front door! This almost dropped them to a 4 star, but then ... I spotted them - freshly made (today) homemade peanut butter humongous cookies. I've never seen cookies this big and the price - you won't believe it - 3/$2.50 - and I have to tell you - these were the most amazing cookies I have ever had and therefore they remained a 5 star! Tom bakes all the deserts and though I only had the cookie - the others looked amazing as well and one of the waitresses said they take the calories out of them - how nice huh? Though this review is based only on my opinion and food selections, my wife had some sort of chicken on some rabbit food - I think they call it a salad and she said it was really good, but then she only had a little nibble of the cookie because she said the salad was too big and she couldn't eat another thing! I'm going to be watching the other two cookies on our kitchen counter closely. The place has ample parking, but as people continued to enter and we left - the parking lot was packed and I'd suggest come early or come late, but later means they might run out of cookies. They do accept credit cards and Tom does come out frequently to chat with customers - he is the big tall guy and he has a really great name! read more

Tom's Family restaurant is what it is. A very homey feeling place to eat. There is a large lot of plenty of space to park. This place does get busy during dinner time so you might not get VIP parking right in the front the entrance is not far from any place where you park in their lot. When you first walk in, you are greeted with a case of freshly baked goodies. You can't help but to stare and just want to have desert before your main meal. The servers are very nice and friendly. Always attentive us. Always refilling my diet coke and making sure Dan's coffee is filled up and water is always topped up. The food, honestly everything taste pretty good here. I got some meat loaf tower thing. Where they tower the meat loaf with onion rings and some other good needs and it comes stacked up so it looks very big. I hear the soulvaki is good but I haven't tried it personally. I've also had the fried chicken and that was nice and juicy. The skin was nice golden brown, and not over cooked etc. I also had the ham dinner and man that slice of ham was huge, though a little salty for me, but it was yummy. I would try the fried chicken dinner if your not sure what you want. You won't be disappointed. They also have a rotating specials menu and everything on there sounds yummy and delish. The portions are very nice here, and pricing is very great. I would for sure come back. I love this place. P.S. You must must get the freshly baked cookes in the front. 3 for $2.50 is so worth it. Genuinely friendly service in a quaint restaurant off I-90 in Irving. A lot of locals seem to dine here. Ordered the fried chicken and the mile high meatloaf. 4 pieces of the crispiest perfectly cooked chicken EVER on a generous bed of fries! I took a bite and the crust literally shattered into crispy shards of chicken skin goodness! The meatloaf was also moist and delicious with nice creamy mashed potatoes and gravy and 4 crispy onion rings. All pies and cookies are also made on site. Took a slice of chocolate peanut butter pie to go and it was also fantastic! Too bad Tom's isn't close by for us Canadians.. Went to Tom's for the fifth time this year. Never lets me down. Cannot order anything but souvlaki. Kids get fish it is great. Souvlaki is out of this world. The cookies are to die for. Huge. Get three of them one for before you get to the door, one on the way home and one for breakfast the next day. Bear paws are huge weigh about five pounds. Staff is awesome. Very friendly. New Years day 2015 Family and I went back for souvlaki dinner. Out of this world. Bought a piece of banana cream pie for in house desert, bought three chocolate chip cookies for later. Writing this review now, while eating my cookie, Tom should give one to all Yelpers and tell them to write the review while eating them.....out of this world. Have not had anything bad yet. My dad and I stopped here for a quick lunch after a long morning moving some heavy furniture across town. The place is small with some outdated decor but very friendly staff. They have a very simple diner menu. I tried the chicken sandwich with fries. The food was pretty standard for a diner like restaurant. I ordered take out from this restaurant, and my phone call was very short and abrupt. The wait time was about 20 minutes and when I arrived, my meals were ready. However, there is no separate take out entrance so when I entered the restaurant, I was asked by 3 separate waitresses 'How many?'. I quickly got annoyed by this and since the inside of the restaurant is so small, everybody could hear my conversation. The woman who gave me my take out was nearly screaming, and I was so embarrassed to be in her presence. I quickly took the bags and left, feeling very uncomfortable, and quickly noticed that I was missing two meals. I went back into the restaurant and was asked again 'How many?'. When I stated that I was missing 2 meals, I was practically yelled at as though this mistake was my fault. The woman rudely told me that it would be another 20 minutes. I felt verbally attacked and the customer should always be right, but in this case, I felt as though I was not. Maybe if the person on the phone wasn't so rushed and unprofessional my order would have been correct. When I came back to pick up my two 'missing' orders, I was STILL asked 'How many?'. I was furious at this point. The bags were nearly thrown at me and I stormed out of the restaurant. The food was good, but the fries were soggy and smelled weird. Sauce is limited and they provide nearly no napkins and plastic silverware. This trip took over an hour and the food was just average. Therefore, I was disappointed. I like Toms restaurant It always feels welcoming bright and airy. The food is always good. The prices are reasonable. The servers are nice. There is off street parking. They are Willing to accommodate large groups. They will even do separate checks for you with a large group if you want them to. The restaurant is clean. Did a take-out order from the Friday night over labor day weekend and was pleasantly surprised. It's a Greek-American diner menu. Phoning in the order was seemless along with pickup. For food, we got the kids a breakfast meal with some pancakes, eggs and bacon. I then had the beef on weck, while my wife had some souvlaki and a spanakopita to split with our youngest. The breakfast food was decent, and my wife said her food was ok, but man that beef on weck was massive in size. So much meat on a decent sized roll. Luckily I got an extra horseradish as I needed both and barely covered the sandwhich. If you're in the area and need some takeout I would say you can't go wrong here. read more

Favorite local business. Service is always smiling and helpful. Some of my family's favorites are the fish fry, liver and onions, and the open chicken souvlaki.
