My coffee cup was kept full, and my breakfast of potato pancakes came quickly. Now, these were not your Bubbie's latkes: There was a lot of flour, egg, and onion salt in them. The food was fantastic. We shared a side of biscuits and gravy, which is the way to go- $10 and 3 biscuits swimming in homemade sausage gravy. And the steak and eggs ($20) breakfast which is two pieces of fillet two eggs, home fries, and toast. With such large portions for everything -and so you don't over eat that way, and it becomes more economical because it can be pricey here. The food was really tops. It's very clean and nicely decorated in a hodge lodge of everything and the service is great. My waitress, though I don't know her name, is wonderful. A quaint little diner spot, ZJ's was CROWDED when we ate there. Lots of people, lots of chatter. The menu is what you'd expect from a traditional diner, with a few more rare items. Prices are a little above normal. Although that said the ham steak was both unexpected and sizable enough to justify the price. Service was fast to begin with but food didn't arrive for about 40-50 minutes after we ordered. Ours wasn't the only slow order, as an older gentleman near us gave up after 45 minutes and walked out. But again... they were packed with customers, so this may not be normal. For some comfort food and diner experience, give it a try. What a nice find and I do mean find. We were visiting Hamburg Village Square and noticed the Zj's sign in the back left corner of the Square. Almost missed it. Hungry we took a chance and were pleasantly surprised. Greeted and sat immediately we proceeded to have a delightful experience. Our server came over quickly let us know that everything on the menu was available. The restaurant was obviously dotted with regulars as we observed the welcomes, interactions and automatic order taking over and over. That is always such a good sign. The menu offered such a wide variety of options it was hard to choose. My wife chose chicken fried steak (gravy on the side) as always. As an old school ham fan I was tickled, intrigued and challenged by a 1 lb ham menu option which I could not resist. As the pictures can confirm we were not disappointed. The service was attentive and very friendly we feel very welcome and taken care of. The food was hot, fresh and very good. We both couldn't finish everything, especially me. The dinosaur slice of ham defeated me for now but I guarantee it will be dealt with later. The restaurant & bathrooms were pleasantly clean. To be completely honest, ZJ's Family Restaurant was not our first choice for breakfast on the day we stopped. However when we arrived at our pre-planned restaurant only to discover a hand-written note in the door saying "closed today," we improvised, knowing that time was of the essence. Located a couple of miles in the wrong direction, we took a chance with ZJ's, and it paid off, as the restaurant was able to immediately seat us. While we had no clue what a souvlaki was, the kids and I are pretty adventuresome eaters, so we ordered several different varieties, along with the usual assortment of breakfast drinks. Meanwhile my wife ordered a more traditional biscuits and gravy breakfast along with a coffee. The décor in ZJ's was old-school diner with a decided Greek flare. A good example of this was the restrooms (see photo), where the women's was Damas and the men's was Caballeros. Had we not been so pressed for time, I would have loved to have wandered around the restaurant, reading the different signs and news clippings. As it was, our orders were up relatively quickly, and we all ate heartedly. My chicken souvlaki omelet was very good, with the feta cheese giving it an unexpected but nice bite. Always a great diner to go to. Small, cute and quiet with good food and amazing wait staff. I usually get the Chilli Dogs with fries and a salad. Today we got those with a Reuben sandwich, french onion soup and a bunch or corn dogs. (As the corn dogs were on sale and we were hungry!) The homemade ranch dressing made in house tasted amazing and never lets me down. Of course, everything else was super tasty as well. Almost from the moment we made eye contact he started letting me know how much better it was in Idaho since they were walking around with AKs and piston, not like "here, in NY, where you can't do anything because of Cuomo's bullshit Safe Act" Then he told me about the truckers who reconfigured their exhaust to spew sideways and were driving through demonstrations spewing exhaust particulates on the protesters. "They think it's so great to to black! They'll be black alright!" I'm glad my mask hid my facial expression. When would my omelets be ready? He then went on to bash the local protest in town, all the while displaying racist views. Omelets were very tasty. Probably a good place for racist and 2nd amendment types. read more

ZJ's is an awesome spot for a low-key sit down spot. It is most definitely a diner in all senses of the term. Their breakfast is on point. They always have creative specials on their specials menu. Lunch and dinner are also on point. I've eaten here soooo many times and I've always been extremely happy with the food and service. The employees of this place range in ages. There are kids who appear to be high schools working their first job and 'real adults' who appear to be picking up a part-time gig after retirement got boring. It creates a very welcoming environment. Every time I head in here, I feel like I can sit down to eat and stay as long as my heart desires, which is never too long, but my point is, they never rush you out or make you feel unsettled. I also really like the location. I like to have a late-morning breakfast and then drag my boyfriend to Tuesday Morning (only a few doors down) to look at the different stuff they've got. Went here yesterday to grab some lunch. It was good! Your typical little diner. The menu is huge so weather you're in the mood for lunch, breakfast, fried food, salad, whatever.. they have it! I was going to go with 3 stars but the service was so efficient I went with 4 :) We were in and out very quickly, the waitress was ready to go from the time she took the order to dropping the check before we even finished eating. This was great as my friend was on a lunch break. It's a little drab inside but again, typical diner. They let us choose a booth or table which is nice. I love that you could make any sandwich a wrap so I got the cajun chicken on a spinach wrap. It was simple, but good. And the fries were nice and thick and soft just how I like them! This is the kind of place that always underwhelms me but I keep coming back hoping for better next time. I've only been for breakfast (or brunch) on Sundays. The food is pretty consistent. Not bad by any means but SLOW. Don't come here on a Sunday if you're nearing the point of hanger. You will reach that ugly point while waiting forever for your food to come. Came here this morning because it was the ONLY diner open in my area on New Years Day (a day when we could all use diner food). I was pleasantly surprised! I usually avoid Zj's because it is not as good as savories and other diners, but it was a nice experience because even though they were busy the waitress was kind and attentive. The flavor of the omelet wasn't that great-something about it tasted not fresh as if they used egg beaters instead of eggs or something. However, it did have a ton of veggies in it. Also, the home fries were really bland and not crispy even tho I asked for crispy. I never salt my food and I really had to salt them to get them down. The corned beef definitely came out of a can (savories does there's homemade so I'm spoiled now). Nonetheless, it was a decent experience. I would place them at a Denny's type of quality or a little better, but if you're in a pinch they have good service and decent food. read more
