A quaint little diner spot, ZJ's was CROWDED when we ate there. Lots of people, lots of chatter. The menu is what you'd expect from a traditional diner, with a few more rare items. Prices are a little above normal. Although that said the ham steak was both unexpected and sizable enough to justify the price. Service was fast to begin with but food didn't arrive for about 40-50 minutes after we ordered. Ours wasn't the only slow order, as an older gentleman near us gave up after 45 minutes and walked out. But again... they were packed with customers, so this may not be normal. For some comfort food and diner experience, give it a try. Make sure you're in good company just in case you find yourself waiting.

Visited for the first time in years and we were happy we did. Food was tasty and Dee, our server was genuinely friendly and so cheerful. Entire experience was a positive one. Will return.

What a nice find and I do mean find. We were visiting Hamburg Village Square and noticed the Zj's sign in the back left corner of the Square. Almost missed it. Hungry we took a chance and were pleasantly surprised. Greeted and sat immediately we proceeded to have a delightful experience. Our server came over quickly let us know that everything on the menu was available. The restaurant was obviously dotted with regulars as we observed the welcomes, interactions and automatic order taking over and over. That is always such a good sign. The menu offered such a wide variety of options it was hard to choose. My wife chose chicken fried steak (gravy on the side) as always. As an old school ham fan I was tickled, intrigued and challenged by a 1 lb ham menu option which I could not resist. As the pictures can confirm we were not disappointed. The service was attentive and very friendly we feel very welcome and taken care of. The food was hot, fresh and very good. We both couldn't finish everything, especially me. The dinosaur slice of ham defeated me for now but I guarantee it will be dealt with later. The restaurant & bathrooms were pleasantly clean. We were so happy we have had so many disappointing experiences for so long we've stopped going out for breakfast. Now we've found 2 new places in as many weeks. Anyone who knows, knows.

Chicken souvlaki omelet

To be completely honest, ZJ's Family Restaurant was not our first choice for breakfast on the day we stopped. However when we arrived at our pre-planned restaurant only to discover a hand-written note in the door saying "closed today," we improvised, knowing that time was of the essence. Located a couple of miles in the wrong direction, we took a chance with ZJ's, and it paid off, as the restaurant was able to immediately seat us. While we had no clue what a souvlaki was, the kids and I are pretty adventuresome eaters, so we ordered several different varieties, along with the usual assortment of breakfast drinks. Meanwhile my wife ordered a more traditional biscuits and gravy breakfast along with a coffee. The décor in ZJ's was old-school diner with a decided Greek flare. A good example of this was the restrooms (see photo), where the women's was Damas and the men's was Caballeros. Had we not been so pressed for time, I would have loved to have wandered around the restaurant, reading the different signs and news clippings. As it was, our orders were up relatively quickly, and we all ate heartedly. My chicken souvlaki omelet was very good, with the feta cheese giving it an unexpected but nice bite. For good food, unique offerings, attentive service, and reasonable prices, I rate ZJ's Family Restaurant was being Very Good, and would definitely come back the next time we are in town.

Corn dogs and fries

Always a great diner to go to. Small, cute and quiet with good food and amazing wait staff. I usually get the Chilli Dogs with fries and a salad. Today we got those with a Reuben sandwich, french onion soup and a bunch or corn dogs. (As the corn dogs were on sale and we were hungry!) The homemade ranch dressing made in house tasted amazing and never lets me down. Of course, everything else was super tasty as well. Chilli dogs are one of the dishes I reccomend most, but they have a variety on their menu at fairly reasonable prices.

Great Sunday brunch spot with the family of 5. Good food, low-key, can be busy during 10-12.

I ordered an egg breakfast sandwich with home fries and an apple juice, which came out to about $25. While the food itself was a bit on the bland side and felt a little limited for the price, the ambiance really stands out. It's a great place to catch up with friends or family over brunch and enjoy a warm, welcoming vibe. Not somewhere I'd go out of my way to revisit, but I'm glad I stopped in and appreciated the atmosphere.

Here's where it all fell down. After placing my order, I turned my back, reading the menu. Then I heard the microwave "ding" and saw my pain au chocolat removed. Really?? (I once had a Cordon Bleu-trained pastry chef explain that croissants should never be re-heated because it ruins the scaffolding of the butter/flour feuille, or "sheets"). I then tried the various seats in the Danish-style cafe. Stool? No love: They're metal and lack cushions. Chairs at the tables were also metal. I settled in an honest-to-God church pew: The kind the Puritans used, to reflect upon their sins. Do yourself a favor and get your treats to go.

Headed to the counter and showed the app, they said have a seat we'll get your bag ready. The place is cute inside kinda homey with little kiosk with stuff for sale. She brought my bag over and had a cup for coffee. She let me to the coffee station & I had the coffee of the day. I normally don't drink flavored coffee but it was real good, a nutty and creamy flavor combined. My bag had a bowl of broccoli cheddar soup and slice of blueberry crumble pie. The table by me had sandwiches that looked good, will definitely be back.

For those who have never been, there's two entry points; the front (from the street), is wheelchair friendly, while the back (from the parking lot) has some stairs. There are two single bathrooms available in this place. If you're dining in, you can order at the counter and they'll bring the food to your table. Regardless you need to order at the counter anyway. They always have a great selection of baked goods and coffee, plus specialty drinks on rotation. They offer light breakfast and lunch if you don't want just a coffee and pastry. They sell gifts and ground/bean coffee along with flavored syrups. For this particular trip, I ventured in to get lavender syrup (Torani). I treated myself to a specialty rotating drink (Hansel and Gretel frozen coffee - frozen coffee with gingerbread and white chocolate). I also purchased a blueberry muffin and a pumpkin cream cheese muffin (also a rotation dessert specialty). All were excellent, as par for course here. I don't hear at all but speak well, so the kind lady at the front grabbed a pad and writing utensil to communicate with me, which was very helpful and so we both were on the same page. It was very appreciated. Another reason I love this place, they're so accommodating
