Today I took my wife's Mini Cooper S to Toms for a battery replacement and computer programming after the battery change. The process from beginning to end was very pleasant, professional, timely, and reasonably priced. The technician, and receptionist were both very kind and answered all of my questions regarding the process, costs and warranty information. Can't say enough good things about Tom and the team at TFA. First used Tom for a water pump, thermostat, and coolant hose replacement job on my newly purchased 996 C4S about a year ago. Work was quick, clean, and never had any issues. Fast forward to now, my car developed a ticking and misfire... fearing the worst (bore score) I took it to Tom. At first it seemed to be a head scratcher but Tom was able to definitively determine that my engine had a loose valve seat and not the wildly popular internet diagnosis of bore scoring. From there, Tom, Grant, and Tony went through everything as if it were their own car and kept me updated on everything that they noticed and should be addressed while the engine was out. The best part about the whole process was getting calls to come down to the shop so the guys could walk me through the progress and explain/show me everything going on. I always felt I was in good hands and they were not cutting any corners to rush or just finish the project. They were making sure my car would be good for the next 20 years. With all that said and done, my car is back together, running better than ever, and many parts were vapor blasted and/or cleaned so the engine and bay look 10x than before... huge icing on the cake for me. TFA ended up doing the following- Valve job, exhaust valve seats on 1 head, heads resurfaced, IMS, UAOS, Oil Cooler, Clutch, Flywheel, Lifters, Timing chain guides, Trans mount, powder coated parts like exhaust brackets and coil pack shields, coil packs, plugs, o2 sensors, injectors cleaned and flow tested, subframe bushings, exhaust bolt replacements, and a ton of engine bay and wheel well cleaning. As far as value goes, TFA takes the extra steps and attention. Working on a Porsche is not cheap, but you get what you pay for here and what you get is thorough authentic work. Tom is a life saver!! I have a BMW 550i that had a battery installed by a mobile unit that was supposedly programmed and was assured it was the correct battery. Two hrs later I received major failure codes including, excess battery drain, and a transmission fault that locked me out of shifting into drive. I immediately called Tom's Foreign Auto and gave him the 411. It was 3pm on a Friday and they close at 5 but he said bring it in and I'll hook it up to my computer and get a diagnostic for you to be sure it's the battery. There were numerous faults related to the battery and it was confirmed that the wrong battery was installed. I asked Tom if he had the correct battery for my car and if so would there be a possibility of installing it. Tom searched and found it and had me out and running in about an hr with a reasonable price. He added the diagnostic fee to my service that saved me some money on top of that. Truth be told I used Tom a couple years ago for engine and suspension work. I saved a couple grand compared to what the BMW dealership had quoted me. During the diagnostic he kept in touch with me, broke down the cost, we talked about what was urgent and needed vs what was recommended and we made a decision on repairs, but he didn't work on anything that I didn't authorize. The car ran smooth and handled amazing after. That's why I called Tom, because he knows what he's doing and won't take advantage of anyone. It's a family run business and it shows.
