A couple of years ago, after taking my Audi A4 to the dealership for a simple fix that turned into a disaster, I found Tom's Foreign Autohouse. They had great reviews and I thought, why not. Well, I'm glad I did. Tom's has great service and the owner and his staff are super friendly. Tom, the owner and his son have taken excellent care of my car and I never feel they recommend unnecessary services or are just trying to make money off of me. Actually, Tom and his son saved me money. My headlight went out so I took it to Tom's for a fix. The cost to replace my headlight until was $2900 just for the part. Why was it so expensive? Well because it's an Audi and the cost for parts can be ridiculous. After he inspected the problem, Tom pointed out that the headlight looked to be a junk part installed incorrectly. He asked if I had previously been in an accident and was I aware a junk part was on the car. NO! I was not aware and that repair was performed by my insurance company who was supposed to use new parts and warranty the part and installation. Tom advised I go back to the insurance company and alert them as they should be able to pay for the fix. I did exactly what he recommended and eventhough the insurance company required I have the vehicle fixed at their collision facility and not a place of my own choosing, they replaced the part with a new headlight. Tom saved me over $3k and he didn't have to do that. That's one of the many ways he and his team have exemplified honesty and great service. I brought my BMW x1 here for a broken engine mount. Not only was Tom's reliable but, reasonable and honest. My battery had died and I was in a situation of having to tow my car. I had it towed to Murrieta BMW because it was close and last minute. Of course Murrieta BMW charged my up the arse for the battery and labor. They then call to tell me I also had a broken engine mount and wanted $1900 to fix it! I did some research and found Tom's. He saved me over $1k! Called took my 68 VW Bug here after making an appointment. Had it towed it and was told 20 minutes after it arrived that the engine was seized. Couldn't believe what the owner had told me - took the car home back on a tow truck that same day and come to find out after another shop looking at it, it was the carburetor. I don't normally write reviews but I have been in shock until I took it to another shop and found out the engine isn't shot and now all is ok. I dont know if the owner didnt want to look at my vehicle or what but I am pissed I got no resolution and wasted two tow truck tows in the same day. This place came highly recommended from a friend who had the exact same car that I have. When I called them they said they no longer work on this kind of car and we're not able to give me advice on who I should take it to you. Unfortunately I have to give a poor rating to this because they weren't able to give me or unwilling to give me any kind of service. They didn't even ask me if I had a problem with my car. I do not have a problem with my car, I just wanted a reputable place to be able to check it out. They refused do you even see my vehicle. We have an old 2001 MBZ and while driving it from Nevada to San Diego it went into "slow mode" when we stopped for gas in Temecula. A quick look at independent repair shops led us to bring it to Tom's. It was after hours so we left the keys. A few days later, it was diagnosed and a BIG estimate was given to make the old car mostly new. It wasn't what we could afford so we paid for the time spent and decided to tow it to Encinitas. We called a WONDERFUL tow company called West Tow and let Toms Foreign Autohouse know the truck was coming. The tow company had: the car description, a 2001 55AMG MBZ and our name as the client of Tom's Foreign Autohouse. With those descriptions, the tow driver picked up the car and brought it the 50 miles to our home and we paid them $360. When the car arrived on the tow truck, it was THE WRONG CAR! It wasn't even close to our car - it was a nice, much newer 500 coupe MBZ worth about triple our old sedan. So I told the tow driver, "wow, they gave you the wrong car! Let's call to straighten this out!" Of course I called Tome's Foreign Autohouse - knowing that mistakes can happen and no one is perfect, I fully expected they would be so relieved to make this right. Wow, was I WRONG. A woman first told me, "your driver picked up the wrong car!" I explained that he had no idea what car to pick up and of course, relied on Tom's Auto House to release the correct car based on the customer name, and correct car description. She then put "Tom" on the phone. He started YELLING AT ME! I was pretty shocked! He kept saying that "they just give whatever car the tow driver asks for"! Of course, no one would do that - otherwise anyone could show up with a tow truck and tow away any car! BOTTOM LINE: Tom REFUSED to pay to make the tow right. He paid to have the nice wrong car towed back to him and REFUSED to pay to have our car towed here, leaving us to work it out on our own with the tow company. Of course I filed a formal complaint with the BBB for the extra tow which his company necessitated. It seems like Tom knows his cars and is likely a solid mechanic - but when he and his business make a mistake, he is NOT going to make it right, no matter how blatantly wrong he is. He just doesn't care one bit who he hurts, or inconveniences. And that is truly sad. I feel badly for the owner of the nice black 500 MBZ coupe that had a 100 mile tow today too. They won't get an apology from Tom either I suspect. read more

Tom is an honest, awesome, knowledgeable and friendly guy. I am so happy I finally found a shop I can trust to know how to work on my Mercedes. I can also attest that these folks do not try to oversell you on extra work for them to do on your vehicle. He called me back while they were doing my service with three things he recommend i get done in the future. I've been going to the dealership way to long cause each price quote seemed so low I couldn't believe it. He didn't try to push any work on me and he gave me a 1,2,3 order of what was most important as to what was least important. I have to admit his no pressure approach I think made it easier for me to just say "yeah let's go ahead and do that main thing today, and I'll bring it back next month for the two other small things". I didn't get the normal "oh, ok, well you should be very careful cause you need to do this and we have the car now" oh those clowns that do that, shame on them. Not with Tom, he responded enthusiastically responding "perfect Jerry we'll have it done in a couple hours." But he's been in business long enough that I'll bet you he already knows his approach wins over customers' trust and he could prob tell he had won mine over and already knew I would back to see him for the other repairs. It's just so hard finding a mechanic that not only specializes in German vehicles but also won't rip you off or take advantage of you every chance they get just cause they have that German car knowledge. And last I will say this. Tom is a super nice guy that will talk about cars or the weather with his customer. He's also the person that calls you back with the recommendations for your vehicle. You literally get to deal with the man. And the receptionist answered at least 20 questions for me prior to taking my car in to them for the first time. She was kind, sweet, patient and kept a great sense of humor through the whole phone call. Only to remain the same way over the next 6-7 phone calls I made to them between the first call and when I picked up my car. Our 2012 E350 Cabriolet was purchased at a discount with a clunk in the front end only on bumps on the left front, we were given a substantial discount and told it would be about a $2500 repair of something under the dash. I told Tom about the issue and we both thought it was probably the strut bearing, as that is a know problem as these age. I was expecting about $1500 bill for new struts and bearings which is a really good price in comparison to other shops, but when I got the call the car was done an hour later I was told it was a loose panel bracket in the suspension area, and was charged for an hour labor. I was floored it was so cheap and it was fixed, so happy with my choice to go with Tom's Autohouse!!!!! read more
