The noodles had a wonderful chewiness, cooked just right, and the toppings were fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The chashu pork was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the soft-boiled egg had that perfect jammy yolk. My wife wanted some ramen to warm up with on a 7° January evening. We had never been there, so we thought we'd try it out. It's small but nice and bright inside. Our waitress was very helpful and efficient. I actually wasn't in the mood for ramen so I ordered the beef bao buns, and some shrimp tempura. Both were really good. I really love shrimp tempura and this was excellent. The batter was nice and light and the shrimp was delicious. My wife had a traditional pork ramen and said it was excellent. Great everything - food, atmosphere, service, prices! Inside is very clean and casual. We were seated right away and ordered some seaweed salad and edamame to start. For my meal, I took the waitresses's recommendation and tried the garlic ramen. It was delicious and came in a very decent portion! Stopped by today for lunch and ordered the Tonkotsu Classic ramen, with fried oysters and edamame to start. Delicious ramen and the pork was perfectly soft and tender, it also had a nice smoky flavor. The fried oysters were crispy on the outside and buttery soft inside and did not taste like they were bought frozen and then fried. It tasted as if they battered and fried them to order. A little closer to home than the cluster of ramen restaurants in Schaumburg, Ton Ichi is a nice find that I hope to come back to in the near future. We were having a family get together after a dance recital, and decided on this place since it was pretty close. We ordered a few appetizers - pork dumplings, edamame, calamari, and, uhh... french fries? All of these were cooked well, *even the french fries*, which, well, isn't something you really expect at a ramen restaurant. Once everyone was there, food came out very quickly. Everyone else got ramen of some sort (plain chicken noodle for the kids, otherwise miso-based for the other adults) but I was in the mood for an unagi don. This was perfect. The rice was chopstick-perfect, steamed broccoli, was... broccoli, but the eel was cooked perfectly and slathered in sticky, thick (but not too thick) savory sauce. We had a fabulous dining experience at Ton Ichi Ramen! First of all, the space might be small and located in a strip mall, but the interior is an entire vibe and makes for an elevated, gourmet feel. The employees were very kind, attentive, and accommodating to our group, adhering to special requests and allowing us to peruse the menu at our own speed. The Spicy Creamy Vegan Ramen was delicious! The noodles were nice and chewy and complemented the umami broth nicely. Real ramen in STC? I'm crying tears of joy; my dreams have come true! We called and ordered takeout. The restaurant is nicely decorated, modern. I only saw one worker behind the counter who took my order. The food was ready quickly, and was hot and packaged well. Each ramen came in a recyclable to-go bowl, so bonus, no dishes to wash. You pour the hot broth over the noodles and meat already arranged in the bowls, which means nothing gets soggy or overcooked on the way home. We got the spicy miso ramen which was both of our favorites. The ground pork is so comforting and the broth spicy but not crazy. We also got the classic tonkotsu and as another reviewer noted, the broth isn't as next-level rich as some of the most popular ramen places in the Arlington Heights area, but it was still really flavorful and satisfying. The slices of pork were so tender. The noodles for both are thick and bouncy, done perfectly with just the right chew. The eggs were cooked just right, too. For the kids we got the chicken ramen, and while it isn't as flavorful as the pork ones, the kids devoured it. I can't wait to go back and try more. Egg is always beautiful cooked to soft boiled. Husband gets the Tonkatsu Don, and wow that slice of pork is killer. The crust is always perfectly light and crispy. Makes my mouth water. I always beg for a bite of his pork and he always asks why I don't ask for my own. But the ramen is too good... :) 3) To go: Usually when my husband and I are too busy, we pick up dinner from a local spot. And I LOVE ordering from Ton Ichi. Everything is packaged nicely and my broth is separated from my noodles. Our order: Chicken Karaage Chicken buns Fried oyster Pork cutlet rice bowl Rich garlic pork soup ramen Chicken Karaage - 3 stars Flavor was good but each piece was small and dry. I thought they should go for a bigger piece so the meat can hold juice and tenderness better. Chicken buns - 5 stars Unlike Karaage, the chicken was juicy and tender. They can fry it properly, but just Karaage chicken was cut into too small pieces. Buns were moist, soft and easy to eat. Spicy Mayo and garnish was very refreshing. To me this was the meal of the day. Order this chicken buns instead of Karaage as an appetizer. Fried oyster - 3.5 stars I have been having a craving for oysters for months. When I saw oyster fries on the menu, I immediately decided to order it. The result was..... medium? It was crispy outside and oyster's flavor was there but unfortunately not very fresh. I would say it contained only 60% of the flavor I expected. I understand here is in the middle of continent and it should be tough to get fresh and juicy shellfish. But I found it a little bit disappointing since my expectation was high. Pork cutlet rice bowl - 4.5 stars When it was served, I loved the smell of it. It reminded me of my childhood in Japan. And with the first bite, pork cutlet was juicy. Their marinated flavor was yummy as well as sauce over the rice. I could not fault with the rice either and the whole dish can travel well. Pretty classic Tonkatsu bowl I would say! Rich garlic pork soup ramen - 3.5 stars Soup was proper tonkotsu (pork bone) broth. Hot and creamy but the flavor was lack of punch to me, unfortunately. "Rich garlic" in the title did not taste very rich. The noodle was boiled a little too long and soft. But all the toppings were enjoyable. As a whole, we enjoyed fried goods a lot here! Always an incredible meal here. My daughter loves ramen and we were so happy to find a place near home! She always gets the shoyu ramen with a few items left out and I have enjoyed the pork ramen with tempura shrimp as well as the pork and chicken ramen. I just went here again last night and I think the food is getting even better. It tastes richer and the broth of the T8 is creamy and flavorful more so than anywhere else I've had ramen. The waitstaff is more attentive than they were starting out when they first opened and the restaurant no longer smells like cigarette smoke and hasn't in a while which is so nice. We are eating our way down Main Street in Saint Charles, Illinois and tonight our dining spot was Ton Ichi Ramen. The restaurant has a great vibe, it is beautifully decorated, well-maintained, and clean. Contemporary music played in the background, and it was at a perfect volume as were able to hold a very comfortable and enjoyable conversation at our table. The service was very fast and accommodating, honoring a coupon we received in the mail and promptly bringing take home containers. We ordered 2 Vegetable Ramen dishes, a Spicy Tonkotsu (Kimchi Ramen), and Classic Chicken Ramen. The dishes were beautifully presented and generous in size. What we learned about ourselves, however, is that we are not Ramen people. The dishes consisted of a broth with noodles, which we did not find satisfying. If you have a taste for adventure, and like trying new things, such as two different kinds of seaweed, or eel, this menu would be for you. read more

I had the chance to stop at Ton Ichi Ramen for lunch today. I'm always welcoming of 'ethnic' restaurants in the area as its gives us more options for fulfilling ones diverse appetite during lunch and there are little to no legit ramen joints in the area. I'm always leary of going to a new restaurant right when it opens. Reasons being is because training needs to be done, policies and procedures need to be standardized, and inventory needs to be stocked but I digress and decided to try Ton Ichi Ramen any ways, I'm not even sure they had their official grand opening yet. I arrive at lunch time and was promptly greeted and seated. The restaurant was at 50% capacity and had a light rush of to go orders. Their menu is extremely easy to read and has pictures next to each dish. I decided for my first dish I'm gonna go with the Spicy Miso Ramen and that's what I went with. I told them no seaweed as I'm just not a big fan of seaweed in ramen. To preface my ramen review, I break it up into 4 parts. The first being the broth of the dish as I consider this the most important part of any noodle soup dish. If you ain't got good broth then you ain't got good soup! But first I have a bit of a complaint or not so much a complaint but a quibble. The spoon that give you is a small ladle and in theory it looks nice when it comes out, but in practical use terms it's so inconvenient, I seriously felt like I was going to get stabbed in the eye ball so many times and it's just so big and clunky and I'm just not a big fan. Give me the standard rocket soup spoon or regular spoon, ugh. Now on to the broth, I'd honestly have to say this was the worst part of the dish. The first sip of broth I could instantly tell it was missing that 'deep depth' that one so desperately yearns for when eating ramen. This depth of flavor could be achieved by stewing the broth in pork neck bones, pig's trotters, and/or pork marrow bones for 8+ hours. The broth needs to be creamy filled with collagen and gelatin, this broth specifically in the Spicy Miso did not have this. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying it was bad, the broth was good but in order to for ramen joint to be outstanding it needs to have this depth in flavor in their broth. Next up are the noodles and the noodles were perfectly fine, soft, and chewy. Next was the protein and I didn't realize that the Spicy Miso didn't come with chasu and only came with minced pork. I'll make sure to get the chasu next time. The minced pork was beautifully seasoned and complimented this dish perfectly. Last but not least are the toppings. The bean sprouts added a nice crunch and the corn was good and green onions were fresh. The soft boiled egg was done perfectly, not overdone and underdone just enough to be creamy and not runny. Overall, the ramen noodle dish was good and I'm glad they've arrived in the neighborhood. I can't wait to try the other ramen dishes and if things change for the better or worse I'll make sure to write an update. I consider TIR a franchise type of ramen restaurant. It's good but ain't no body traveling an hour to just come and eat here. Those types of journey are reserved for mom and pop ramen joints or specialty ramen shops and TIR aren't those. Just a note for Ton Ichi Ramen - Get rid of those ladle spoons. No body likes them. Keep up the good work. read more

We almost didn't come today but thankfully my son insisted. Our first time at Ton Ichi was delicious. Our go-to ramen for years was Mitsua in Arlington Heights, once one of the few ramen shops in the country. And now we have this! My vegan ramen was fabulous! I loved the noodles, and every component was flavorful and fresh. The complimentary kimchi offered (when I asked about it's spice level) by our server was emblematic of the excellent care he took of my family. My husband's order, tonkatsu don, was exactly like an authentic Japanese chicken version we were already familiar with, except topped by a crispy pork (think schnitzel but better.) From lovely decor, clean surroundings and great service and meal, we may no longer need to go so far to get something so good. read more

I've been craving ramen this weekend, being pregnant I decided to finally try out this place! I ordered the Spicy Chicken Ramen. I did order for pick up today and noted that I was pregnant so I asked for my ramen to be well done and once I arrived they let me know they removed the egg from my order which I appreciate! Friendly service and nice restaurant environment! The noodles were well I definitely enjoyed it with the seaweed, next time will ask to add more it was a good flavor overall. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The ramen selection was very good, and the ramen itself was quite enjoyable. The appearance and cleanliness of the restaurant was good too. The appetizers/sides...not great. The menu showed photos of beautiful seared scallops. The actual scallops were breaded, not great, and looked like they probably were pre-made from-frozen boxed scallops. The tempura shrimp were more breading than shrimp, and also seemed to have been more akin to a boxed frozen appetizer like you might get at the grocery store. So in the event that I go back, it will be solely for the ramen. read more
