First time at the new St Charles location we came to celebrate Friday with Happy Hour which is available from 4-6pm Mon-Friday. My go to beverage is the white wine and for food the lettuce wraps. I missed the usual peanut sauce that came with it. Only two servers so I didn't complain about him not asking if I wanted another wine or having to ask for water and getting half a glass, again with no refill. The restaurant is clean, bright and the patio is available if you don't mind a parking lot view. Even as dinner hour approached it wasn't too crowded but more servers showed up so I'm sure service improved for the after work crowd. read more

This review is only based on their Happy Hour menu. Went to the St. Charles location on a Friday . They also have So. Barrington and Burr Ridge locations. We sat in the bar for Happy Hour (Mon-Fri 3-6) and it was not too crowded at 430pm. They offer wines for 4.00,16oz Sapporo Draft for 3.00..Yes 3.00! As well as a selection of craft cocktails for 8.00. The Happy Hour food menu consists of rolls,lettuce wraps,Tempura Shrimp and a few more items. Prices are super reasonable . We had the Chicken Lettuce Wraps which were very good but would have liked more sauce. I guess we could have asked for a small cup of extra sauce so our mistake. The Yakitori Beef was juicy and tender glazed with a teriyaki sauce. My favorite was the Las Vegas roll..a panko crusted roll with a crab mix,cream cheese and jalapeno topped with a spicy seafood mix and tempura flakes drizzled with spicy mayo and unagi sauce. The fire part means not one thing without peppers in it. No crunchy chicken in anything all just white meat. My tongue is still blistered from one bite. No normal stir fry like home, all peppers & hot sauce. Someone said more like a Mexican place. Even sushi was assured no spice but only one plain. Rest must been "sitting" on hot stuff. Drinks mostly ice. Margaritas very small lowball glasses filled to exact top with ice no shaken in ice, with ice left in shaker, no big Margarita glasses. I used to visit this restaurant frequently when it was located at its previous spot, but recently, I check out the relocated restaurant with a friend. The interior vibe has definitely changed. I definitely miss the larger, more extravagant decorations like the large dragon that took up the whole wall of the old place, the new location still has a comfortable atmosphere, more booths, and brighter vibes. The service was standard. They were efficient but nothing extraordinary. The staff took our orders and delivered our food in a timely manner, which we appreciated. We ordered the Lard Nar, which has remained the same in quality from the previous location. The combination of the sweet sauce and the perfect balance of crispy and soft wide noodles is always a winning combination. It's a dish I've loved since I started coming here, and it brings back nostalgic memories. I'll definitely be returning for more in the future. read more

Wanted to find a new restaurant and stopped on by, and I definitely didn't regret it. Atmosphere was really cool, felt like I was in an industrial kinda party vibe, along with the usual decor for a sushi place too! A fun fusion for ambiance always adds to the experience, and so did my waitress. When I went, it was her first day at this location, and she was very kind to me. Gave me lots of great options and sold me on cool stuff without trying to overly push (I'll always take an upsell if it is cool and affordable). The home made ginger ale was to die for, and I loved the chicken wrap appetizer. It had a great peanut butter sauce and the chicken had a really nice marinade. I met friends for dinner on a Saturday around 5:30 pm. For whatever reason they put us in a small booth right by the front door. The sun was in our faces most of the time. It was warm too. We stayed for about two and a half hours and the restaurant and bar area was never busy. Why not put us in the main restaurant, especially because there was six of us. Just very uncomfortable. I usually go to the South Barrington location. And I have appetizers and maki rolls. The food is always good with a comfortable vibe. I decided to try something new and I had the Kung Pow chicken. It was the worst Kung Pow I have ever had. Very small pieces of chicken, frozen vegetables, and boring runny sauce. Very disappointing. My dish was not worth $17. The tempura was flavorless and they forgot the dipping sauce. The miso soup was also not the best. The Szechuan dish was the winner of the night. I really wanted to like this place because the old Wok n Fire in downtown St. Charles was great... but this new location is underwhelming to say the least. Has me wondering if they're even owned by the same people/company as before. My parents ate at the restaurant not too long ago and told me it's not worth it but I decided to give them a shot anyway. I tried to place an order online but was having issues with my internet so I called and placed my order over the phone. I ordered edamame, vegetable fried rice, and an order of California rolls. I prefer California rolls with masago so I asked for that to be added. The guy on the phone (who was very nice) didn't know what masago is so I told him. I guess they just call it "fish egg" there (it also showed up on my receipt as "fish egg"). I was very disappointed when I got home and saw that the masago was basically just sprinkled on top of the California rolls (photo included). I'm assuming I paid extra for this but my receipt doesn't make that clear so I'm not sure. But in any case, this is not what people are expecting to get when they ask for "fish egg" to be added to a roll. They were also pretty mushy and tasted very bland. They weren't much better than the California rolls they sell at grocery stores. The edamame and vegetable fried rice were also disappointing. There was zero salt on the edamame which seemed weird to me. Maybe some places just expect you to add that yourself if you want it. But I was particularly bummed because I didn't have any chunky sea salt at home, just table salt. Anyway - as for the vegetable fried rice... it was difficult to find the vegetables in it. There were tiny pieces of red pepper and even tinier pieces of broccoli (I mean super tiny). Again, I ordered carryout so I can't say much about service or the atmosphere. But the food was so disappointing I don't see any reason to go back. I'm giving them 2 stars because the inside of the restaurant looked nice... but that's the only thing that impressed me. Unfortunately - I need to update my review of this place. This was one of our local favorites, but can't say that anymore. We arrived at 1:20pm and ordered our typical orders. The place was empty (one other guest in the restaurant) yet our order took a significant longer time than normal , 30-40 mins. We were told that after 2pm is when the kitchen gets their other sushi chef...Ok? When the sushi arrived- was really disappointed and it needed to be sent back. I'd prefer to not mention why here to not embarrass this place - but has nothing to do with the normal ingredients of the role. When we got the situation squared away - the bill was also incorrect and the waiter this time around was less than friendly and pretty short with us. Their is a new General Manager who was very pleasant and tried to correct the situation. Food tasted less than spectacular and an honest review, very average. They probably got a new chef back there. Decided to give this place a shot through Uber Eats since it's been 4 years since my last experience, and they have moved locations and probably have all new staff. I must have had a temporary lapse in judgement, because the sushi from this Wok N Fire might just be worse than grocery store sushi. The cold raw roll was put into the same container as a hot tempura roll, and turned the cold raw roll to straight up mush (both the avocado in the middle and the salmon on top). There was very little salmon for it being a $15 roll, and the other roll was covered in so much spicy sauce you couldn't even taste what was inside of it. Half of my order went into the garbage because the gooey texture and warm temperature of the salmon had me cringing. If you are trying to find a replacement for Sush Diva, go farther into downtown St Charles, because Wok N Fire is not where you want to spend your money. read more

Food came out quickly, my favorite was the steak fried rice. The fried rice tasted just like hibachi fried rice (my favorite). We also got the orange peel dish with scallops, the scallops were cooked perfectly and the sauce complimented the dish very well. We also got the spicy tuna roll and the spicy tuna on crispy rice (not pictured). The spicy tuna on crispy rice was my favorite out of the two. Will definitely be back for that alone! I'm by no means a sushi connoisseur, in fact I'm fairly new to trying and enjoying sushi, but I think Wok n Fire in St. Charles is very good and I will be returning. On my first visit, I tried the sushi sampler and enjoyed everything on that plate which included California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Salmon Nigiri, and Tuna Nigiri. They were all delicious. I also had the side salad with wasabi vinaigrette, and that was very good. On my most recent visit, I started with Pan-Seared Chicken Dumplings, then a Spicy Tuna Roll and a Kappa Maki Roll. On both of my visits (so far) I've had attentive and friendly service. My only "complaint" is the loud dance music. I'm an older Gen-X and would prefer something more subdued. read more

The staff said that the owner does this all the time to get the business and they had multiple complaints but he keeps doing this. I have been a customer of numerous Wok n Fires, but this one is the absolute worst. I usually dine-in at the Wheaton location, and the food and service never disappoints. For take-out, I order from this location. Tonight, we were missing half of our order of sticky wings and an entire St Charles roll. My husband picked it up(we are 20 min. away), and when he got home, we discovered the incomplete order. My husband called and spoke to the manager. At first, the manager said they were too busy to correct the order. Then, she said that he did receive the missing food!!!! As I write this, I just got a text that our order is ready for pick-up (my hubby has now been home for 20 minutes!!!) We are now waiting for a call from Ken, whoever he may be. The wife took me and the mother in law here for lunch while we were visiting her in St. Charles. We liked the rolls and the nigiri. My favorite nigiri is the scallops. My only complaint is that the nigiri fell apart immediately, the scallop separating from the rice, which made it hard to eat. This was a problem with more than just the scallops. The wife liked the tuna nigiri - yellow tail. We ordered the following rolls: Yum yum Tiger roll Mexican roll Caterpillar roll These were good, but the waitress did not tell us which was which when she delivered them so I can't say which was my favorite. We had a very disappointing experience with our last take-out order from this Wok-n-Fire on 6/11/24. Having been here a few times before and never encountering any issues, this visit was particularly disheartening. The food was served cold, tasted old, and was definitely not worth the price. - Carb Rangoon was hard and burnt. Very little crab meat in it. - The calamari was cold and tasted chewy/old - The sesame chicken was rubbery and the rice was hard - French fries with kid's meal were soggy and undercooked. We left a message for the manager and filled out the contact form on their website, but we never heard back. The lack of response just adds to the poor service. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and paid top dollar for food thinking it would be an exceptional meal. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We have been eating at Wok n Fire since it was in downtown St. Charles. I always get the King Pao stir-fry. It has always been my favorite Kung Pao; crisp vegetables, browned chicken, hot peppers, and a thick spicy sauce. Over the last year or so the quality has fallen significantly. My delivery order of Kung Pao today contained large chunks of soggy vegetables, chicken that looked and tasted like it was boiled, exactly 0 hot peppers, and a thin , watery, tasteless sauce. My wife's Sweet and Spicy stir-fry was equally disappointing. Shame to see what was once a first rate restaurant decline. We will miss ordering from Wok n Fire. read more

The quality of the food has gone down since the time we last visited. Our dinners took more than 40 minutes to come. The food was incompletely cooked, cold and just doused with sauce. The restaurant itself was cold, even through we asked to be seated in the warmest area possible. Most of the other patrons kept on their winter coats while seated at the table. I ordered calamari, lettuce wraps, sweet and sour chicken with brown rice, and Pan Fried noodles with chicken (subbed Pad Thai noodles). Upon returning home realized that they did not provide the actual lettuce wraps, only the chicken. They also did not give me any type of noodle in my Pan Fried Noodles dish(just a somewhat scarce amount of chicken,veggies, and the sauce). While the Sweet and Sour chicken was fine, the brown rice was inedible. The consistency reminded me of oatmeal and the smell and taste was foul, making both my girlfriend and I spit out the one bite of rice we had. I honestly cannot explain the smell/taste or what was actually wrong with it, but something clearly wasn't right. I will admit the calamari was good. I called the establishment to make them aware of the situation. The hostess was nice, sorry to hear about my food, and said she would get her manager on the phone. After a short wait, the same hostess(I believe) got back on the phone and told me that they found my missing lettuce wraps and my noodles. At this point my meal was ruined and I didn't care to return to the restaurant to pick them up. Despite having no interest to return, I never got the impression that there was any type of remorse for forgetting these items and they did not mention anything about me coming to get them, holding them for me, etc. The hostess then told me that despite me using THEIR OWN website to place my order, they cannot give me a refund or credit and I would have to contact Doordash, as that is whom their website partners(?) with. I would caution against placing online orders in the event they mess up 3/4 of your order as they did mine. This experience is making me question if I will ever order from them again, which is a shame as I really enjoyed and would frequently order their sushi rolls. read more

Our first visit to the new location after they moved from downtown St. Charles. It's in the old Sweet Tomatoes location on the east side. It's a nice, large space, but nowhere near as Zen as the old place. Otherwise, there is plenty of parking and it is easy to get to. I was surprised to find a ton of reservations open on a recent Friday evening. We arrived at 7 PM and sat down to check out the menu. We were struck by the great list of cocktails but surprised at the prices. We know things aren't cheap anywhere anymore when dining out, but most cocktails were $15+. Drink sizes were okay, but it would have been nicer to see the higher prices reflected in a good-sized glass. We ordered a couple of appetizers, again in the $15 range. We got a couple of crab rangoons and a lettuce wrap. We got 6 rangoons per order - and they didn't look house-made and were not bursting with flavor. The accompanying sauce also seemed bottle-made. The lettuce wrap came with a good plate of the spicy chicken, but only 4 lettuce wraps. For our entrees, we got the Sea Bass, the Ahi Tuna, and the Sweet and Sour stir fry. The Sea Bass was good, about a fist-sized portion of fish, delicate rice, and delicious asparagus. The Sweet and Sour was also good and a generous portion. The Ahi Tuna was the most disappointing, rather than barely seared, it was cooked to well done. It also came with the delicious asparagus, but no rice. At $40, I should have sent it back to get a correctly cooked piece of tuna, but didn't. Overall, a very meh experience. Our server made the point often that they are very under-staffed. A common situation in the hospitality business. I'm concerned for the restaurant though. Even with challenges in supplies and staff, a restaurant needs to meet diner expectations. I'm hopeful this restaurant finds a way soon to do that. read more

Thought maybe they needed more time to get their recipes down. We went back this evening and was more disappointed then the last time.
