I've both had my hair colored and cut at this salon. Caitlin is an amazing colorist and my hair always looks fabulous thanks to her. She listened patiently when I told her what I wanted (violet brown) and I've been loving the color ever since I got it. It always looks fantastic, healthy, shiny and sexy when she's done. In fact the other colorists come over and rave about the color when she's done. If you need your hair colored, ask for Caitlin - she's got a lot of experience and knows what will work and won't. If a color won't work for you; she'll let you know. Now onto my hair stylist,Bree. I had long, and I mean LONG hair for-EVER! (15+ years) I wanted a new cut and had one picked out but was nervous to do it. It was a couple inches above my shoulders and I'd be cutting off 9 inches at the longest point. Bree listened to me, clarified everything I said, was patient when I went over it a 3rd time to be sure I'd be getting what I wanted and then was even more patient as I nearly hyperventilated while I got it done assuring me I'd love it. Well she was right! The cut was exactly what I wanted and I loved it!. The customer service here is top notch from the girls at the front desk to those doing a simple bang trim; everyone is professional and treats you as if you're their only client. Toni & Guy do things a little differently than salons I have been to in the past. They have a color specialist and then a separate stylist. Jennie does my color - she spent a great deal of time with me before we began to learn exactly what I wanted. It came out perfectly. Crystal is my stylist - she does a great job, but I found that if I brought in a picture of what I would like, she could duplicate it exactly. I think their pricing is a little high - but they do offer specials. You can trust them and that's worth a lot to me. I'm a hip oldster and I appreciate their honest feedback as to the styling for my age group as well as for my hair. Recommend the salon without any reservations. Wendy C. read more

Wow! Really I'm very particular with my hair. Going from red/brown back to blonde is tough, but after two attemps of my regular hair girl and six weeks of orange hair(She kept saying it looks beautiful!!), something had to be done. I stop by and consulted with Miranda Niemann and she didnt seem worried. The next day she set to work. My hair is now amazing(if I do say so myself). I'm now blonde with fantastic subtle highlights and the orange is gone! I know I'm hooked and will be returning to Miranda from now on! read more

Needed to replace a salon that was in the same shopping mall because the owner cared little about the customer. Decided to give Toni & guy a try. I went to Stephanie for color and Dustin for cut. I have to say both color and cut were stellar! My hair was extremely damaged and Stephanie knew exactly what to do to give it life and colored it with perfection. Dustin then gave a precision cut as he needed to cut all the damage away. Great services and would highly recommend the staff there very professional 5 stars. 1 star for the run down salon. My complaint is with the salon itself. ....the owner needs to invest in a huge remodel. The talent far out weighs the salon itself! read more

Worst experience ever. Over $500 wasted. My hair is dark, I came in wanting to have a balayage done on my hair. I wanted it to be as light as could be. Now I know that it wouldn't take the first time, nor the second. But after being told after EACH appointment that the NEXT appointment would have my hair the way I wanted it I finally got tired. Not only that but there was little to no progress being done. You couldn't even tell I got it lightened. They'll try to tell you that you NEED their expensive haircuts & their expensive hair products to be put in your hair OR ELSE ITS DAMAGED FOR GOOD. (Even though we all know it's gonna be damaged either way) Anyways not only did they give me the run around on doing my hair they also have a LOT of attitude. Management sucks because she'll roll her eyes at you while she's speaking to you & say she "just stepped out from another client JUST to speak with you" & then continue to give you half assed answers as to why your hair isn't the way you want it to be yet. They lack professionalism with their customers & obviously lack basic morals (constantly lying about when my hair will be the way I want it). Unless you're willing to pay well over $1000 on your hair & wait a whole year to have it HALF way done to the way you want it & want to be constantly pushed to buy their products then I suggest you go there. I'm no longer EVER going back & I'm NEVER going to recommend going there. If I could give them zero stars I would. read more

I was concerned they were going to be snobby about me opting for a cheap hair cut, but they were very pleasant and scheduled my appointment for a few days later. My appointment was with Justin; he was delightful and listened to how I wanted my hair cut, then cut it that way. I didn't give this review 5 stars because I was surprised when the receptionist came over to ask when I wanted to schedule my next appointment while my stylist was present... Personally, I felt obligated to schedule something; I will probably cancel and set one up when I'm ready to get a cut again. Friendly staff and quality technique. I've worked with several of the employees at the SanTan location now and they all do a phenomenal job. They truly go out of their way to make you feel like a valued customer. Recommended. One common mistake I see a lot of people make is that they don't speak up about how they want their hair. A stylist can only bring your vision to life as much as you describe it. So, if you are have a difficult time describing what you want, pull up a picture on your phone. Just left and will be calling a manager Monday. My girlfriend is the most selfless person I know and never does anything for herself. Last week I set an appointment with Daniel over the phone. I didn't know what to ask for but I've heard her talking about Brazilian blow out so we set her an appointment for Brazilian blow out, cut, and color. I orchestrate a slick plan to have us arrive just in time for her appointment. I ask at the front desk what she's signed in for. They tell me cut and color. I ask about the Brazilian blow out and they tell me they don't do that there. I wasn't going to leave at this point. It was already a massive undertaking just to get her there and surprise her so I decided to wait and talk to a manager later. I go to pick her up and she's already paying which was not how it was supposed to go, furthermore, they charged her 153 instead of 118 as Daniel quoted me over the phone. He sold me a service they don't even offer. I'm highly disappointed. Absolutely ruined my surprise for her. I'll update this as I see how it's handled. ***UPDATE*** I called today to speak with Jennifer. The call dropped on her end and now when I call back it says the destination mailbox is full. I called corporate and put in a request for the owner of the franchise to call me back. read more

I came into Toni and Guy wanting to get partial highlights and because my sister recommended them. Mind you, I have been to several different, great hairdressers who have done a fantastic job with my hair. I only came here because they have a reasonable price for what I wanted. After arriving, I was approached by Jen, my colorist, and she took me back to get started. Long story short, the highlights came out okay. She quickly foiled me and I was waiting for probably a good 45 minutes before she washed them out. Not to mention, I have never seen employees push their product on their customers as much as these people! Every minute, she was trying to sell me something and wanted me to come back in another 8 weeks for a full highlight. My hair was already damaged enough as is and a good hairstylist would've recommended a break and a good product to repair my breakage. The highlights are some of the worst I have had. Very patchy and some parts of my hair aren't toned, which is very upsetting. I will definitely not be returning. They are such a franchised salon that the quality and individuality have disappeared. read more

I'm not very adventurous with my hair; it's long with layers and I wear it straight. So, it's probably an easy cut for most stylists. That being said, I got a great cut from Shelley. She was thorough in finding out exactly how I wanted it cut before she got started, and then as she was working, she explained exactly how she was styling it and how it would affect the look. (I.e. "I'm going to cut the layers this way and it will give more volume." or "I'm drying at a high heat and then giving it a blast of cool air to set it.") After my hair was cut and styled, she made sure it was to my liking and told me that if there was anything that I didn't like, I could always come in and we could play with it a bit. I also liked the "DIY" product card that they provided at the end of the appointment. It lists the products used and in what order, so that you can try to replicate the look at home. Like I said, I'm not too adventurous, so it's not hard for me to style it, but the DIY card is a nice touch. And if I'm interested in some products, I may even check out the ones that Shelley used. read more

I haven't found a color or cut person that I LOVE since moving to Phoenix. I purchased a groupon to try here hoping to find someone to stick with. When I booked I was told there was a surcharge for the people that were available when I needed to go. That's fine, I get that you won't get a big discount on someone with more experience. When I came in and met the colorist I got a "I don't do groupons" response from her. I explained the up charge I had agreed to pay, she talked to the desk girl, and she did my hair. It looked good but not anything exciting when I left. What has me furious is that 6 weeks after having it done it looks like my color hasn't been done in 6 months. To me it seems like she did only a good enough job to have it look nice that day. I went to a stylist I loved for 7 years who I saw every 4-5 months and my hair never looked this grown out between visits. So, now I'm off to try someplace else, still hoping I can find someone to keep. read more

I went to Toni and Guy this morning to get a simple blond highlight job. I walked away in tears. My hair turned out orange/banana yellow - and is breaking off like crazy. I think she must have have left the color on too long- I'm not certain what happened, but my hair is completely dry and damaged. I realize there is some damage with any type of chemical treatment, but my hair is seriously destroyed! With a reputation like Toni and Guy, I expected a top notch hair job. To top it off, after the stylist dried and brushed my hair there was a huge chunk of brown right on the front of my forehead that she accidently missed so she put on a few foils and wiped off the dye before I left. My scalp was burning the entire drive home. Stay away from this place unless you want to shave your head. read more

I was looking for a new hair stylist and I've seen this place many times going to san tan village. I read all the review and I was so scared because I wanted a big change but didn't know what to do with my hair. Very time I looked in I thought it was to high class for me, but I took a chance and went in as a walk-in, I only had to wait 15 mins which was great it gave me a change too look around and gave me a feel for the place. I was offered water or coffee which I regret not getting the coffee(lol). I got the hairstylist jennifer a she was great she helped me pick a great new style and color I went with that new look ombré that another stylist had on her hair. Jennifer made my experience fun and enjoyable, then I went with Justin for my hair cut and he even took the time to show me new ways to do my hair. all of the employs were very nice came and made conversation with me well waiting for customers my hair feels so nice and soft and I've been getting a lot of compliments on my hair style and ombré look. After my local barber shop started playing really loud regaton music I had to find another place for my do. I'm old, like really old, 31 I think, so I couldn't handle all that bass in my head while I had clippers next to my ear. After much trial and error at other barber shops and some salons, the wife told me she was taking me to see Rosie. Well I haven't had a better haircut ever. I don't say much as far as direction is concerned. Unless you count "Make me look like Alec Baldwin from 30 Rock or that Mr. Big from Sex in the City" as clear direction. Rosie always takes real good care of me and makes me feel welcome there. Which can be tough since it is a salon and I am a guy in a salon. Really the only bad thing I can say about the place is that i have to beat the girls away with a stick after I walk out of there. Rosie makes me look like a stud so that is something they got going for them. They always remind you of your next appointment they set for you the last time you were there which is nice since I forget stuff always. Guys you can get a real good "gentleman" (that's what my wife calls it...) hair cut and skip the emo bangs unless that's what your into. They do that too, I think. They wash your hair before and after your cut and style it so you look good on the way home or whatever nefarious deeds your up to for the day. WOW! If you have a chance to get your haircut by Jennifer M. you're in for a wonderful treat. I bought a Groupon; figured I might be stigmatized for being a "Groupie" ---see what I did there? lol; but they made me entirely comfortable - as if I was their client for the last decade or two. Sitting in Jennifer's chair for the first time .... corny as it may sound, brought tears to my eyes (and I think later, hers). Not because hairspray got in my eyes, but because of her attentiveness, compliments, and conversation. Everything she was doing to my hair, she explained how and why....(something I needed with a new haircut)....she did not come across "fake and chatty" - it was genuine interest in a new client and it went uphill with each minute. At the end of the haircut, I told her all of the above; how much I appreciated her - and how she displays a passion for clients, AND hair all at the same time. That's when I think I saw a tear in her eye; but I know she was so grateful to hear the appreciation. She thanked me, as I thanked her for the best hour and a half I've had in a while! People like this amaze me; especially in this world where we are all rushing to and fro; stressed and in a "hurry". They should always be told how amazing they are. She's really good at picking out the perfect color that highlights all your features, that is why I've been the same color for 3 years!
