Came here with some girlfriends as it's kind of halfway point for all of us. It's in a small strip center with lot parking. There was plenty of space but I noticed people parked horribly here and all over the line. I parked further away just to avoid this. This spot is pretty small, maybe like 10 tables and booths. We got seated right away tho on a Friday evening. They have some good combos that combine ramen with appetizers or sushi. The ramen prices are pretty in line with most other spots. Food is decent, not the best but not the worst. Prob wouldn't go out of my way to come here but nothing to complain about either. While the waiter was very friendly he needs a little coaching on being aggressive with checking up on us. He prob came by the table every 5 minutes asking how everything was when there was clearly no need to and it was very disruptive for us as we were clearly trying to catch up with each other. read more

This place is so cool. They have lots of fun art work on the walls. They also have a lot of deals going on for the summer months posted. I like that they clearly have all their deals posted and on the menus. The pricing is excellent and the food was delicious. We ordered way too much but we're happy with ramen choices. We got the protein ramen (which was on special for $15) and I got the beef tonkatsu ramen to share with my daughter. I don't often see beef as option for tonkatsu ramen so that was nice to see as my daughter prefers to eat beef. We also got a sushi roll and it really delicious. The waiter was helpful and attentive. In terms of food, definitely tasted better eating at the location that ordering through uber eats. They have some solid combos for a reasonable price. I got these. Spicy Roasted Garlic Ramen - We got the combo and chose karaage Chicken as the extra dish. The ramen broth is strong but very tasty. Definitely one of the better bowl of ramens I've had. One negative was the egg was fully cooked and not yolky, bummer! (4.5/5) Karaage Chicken - It's good, not super crispy but flavors were good. It's a classic! (4/5) Chicharito Roll - How many rolls have hot cheetos on them. It was a fun yet pretty tasty roll. We enjoyed it. (4.5/5) Overall, loved that this spot is local to my house. When I'm craving ramen its definitely a nice spot to visit as food is pretty solid and the combo deals are great. In total for these 3 dishes I spent $36. It's good for those who want something similar to ramen. However, it's not for those who have been to Japan and have eaten authentic ramen. The majority of the food seemed to be premade, and the food came out relatively quick. The ramen noodles were very al dente. The server was kind enough. As for the ambience, it killed the dining experience. The restaurant itself was too cold (need to change AC temperature), the music they had playing was too loud (we couldn't even talk to each other comfortably), tables were cleaned but a little sticky (maybe just our table). Although I do understand why the shop owners would play music loudly, because the neighboring shops had loud music as well. Unfortunately, it was not good for groups larger than six. If you're looking for any sugar-free fountain drinks, they do not have that option, they have is cans of diet soda. The majority of the drinks super sugary, canned juice, milk tea and soda. So if you're diabetic, stay away from that, maybe bring your own drink (cause water is your best "option"). The portions were OK. Unfortunately, the Ramen did miss the bamboo shoots. My Japanese spouse who works at a Japanese company and explained that there is a bamboo shortage. So you have to be comfortable eating the wood ear fungus as the alternative. As for the black garlic Ramen, you would not get much of the oil and the spicy Ramen had too much Korean gochujang. If I could, I would be happy to check out how they prepare their bone broth. It was a bit too greasy feeling. Please note that we would love to try their other foods, however, but the price market that they have, we don't see it as something we would wanna try again. But, if you wanna try something in the neighborhood, I can make other recommendations. I hope the owners read this, and take it with a grain assault. Remember back in the days like the 90s and 2000s, when you walked to middle school then after school, you walked to the nearest plaza to chill, have some drinks, something cheap to eat, and it could have been a taco bell chalupa, and you were pretty content with what was served for food....not ever questioning yourself if what you are eating is just fast food. So that's the kind of restaurant Tonkotsu House really instills. It's a hangout place, a boba shop with food where you don't pay exorbitant prices for a bowl of Ramen. It can never be compared to ShinsenGumi, Tsujita, Daikokuya, even Ajisen Ramen (which ranks low on Ramen Joints), but if you were a high schooler, didn't have a car, and live within a few blocks of walking distance, this would be the Quickly's, Tapioca Express of the Old, and ah yes, Lollicup for those who've never experienced teenage angst in the late 90s and 2000s, this is that type of Ramen Store. But for me, if I were looking for a really local Ramen store where my only option is to drive to get there, Probably would hit up that old school joint Tamaya down in Hacienda Heights. Now I didn't say Foo Foo Tei, because Foo Foo Tei has always been IYKYK. Somehow I was browsing through my archives and I thought I took some photos there at Tonkotsu House, but can't seem to find any. It was pretty much back in May to July of 2025 when I visited. I ordered the Spicy Miso I believe, a Philly roll, with the smoked salmon on it.....the roll was ick. The soup was overpowering. A little too rich and heavy in my opinion. Interesting thing is, they have a little t-shirt sales shop going on inside. The food is alright for the price--you basically get what you pay for. But the servers and the overall experience were honestly disappointing. Let's start with the service. It was our first time coming here, and my partner and I were excited because the place has a lot of high ratings on Yelp. Right when we walked in, there was a poster saying, "Please wait for the server before sitting down." As soon as the server approached us, all he said was, "Hello, for 2?" As a former server, new or returning customers should still be greeted properly with a "Good morning," "Good afternoon," or "Good evening." Instead, he just pointed and said, "You can sit wherever you want." Fast forward to ordering-- The menu looks good and appealing, but once the food comes out, especially the ramen, it's a different story. They serve it in a plain white bowl and it came out messy. The outside of the bowl had broth splashed around it, and no one bothered to wipe it before serving. The taste of the ramen honestly reminded me of instant cup noodles. Since it was our first time, I also expected the server to at least mention any promotions or ask if we've been there before, but nope. We were just handed the menus and left alone until it was time to order. When we finished eating, I noticed the servers just standing around chatting, laughing, and playing with the card reader instead of paying attention to customers. Not professional at all. When we left, they didn't even say "Thank you," "Come again," or "Have a good night." Nothing. The place is also very small and crowded. Several people were coughing really loud without covering their mouths. Maybe the food was spicy, but damn--have some manners. If you don't mind inhaling other people's breath, then this place is for you. Just nasty. The lighting is way too bright. There's no vibe at all--it literally feels like eating cup noodles at home. The brightness also makes the dirt on the walls, tables, and chairs way too noticeable. If they dimmed the lights a bit, at least the place wouldn't feel so harsh. I've been coming here since it's opening and have given a fair chance to this place. Roughly on Covid time, this spot popped up. Which was nice to finally have an additional Ramen location in the city of El Monte. The Ramen is OK. It doesnt wow you. I do like the fact that they have additional appetizers. And now have sushi rolls. Unfortunately, the rolls fall flat. I mean significantly flat. I've had some really bad rainbow rolls. Where the fish was old and smelled. I do have to give them credit on their service. It's Great. The inside is cool, with a mural of anime characters, enjoying Ramen together. Best thing about this ramen joint is the affordability. They have all day combo which makes up for the flavors. The ramen broth is pretty weak. Taste pretty watered down. Noodle is kinda whatever. And they could probably do better with the presentation. Looks like the noodle is just dumped there and the broth color doesn't look super appetizing. I'm a fan of their black garlic oil ramen, after coming here for the past couple years I say this is a still a solid place for your ramen fix without going all the way to like LA or Little Tokyo. I don't like using the word authentic to say that a ramen shop is good (I've only been to Japan and had ramen once so I don't have much to compare) but their food is decent and it's good enough to fill your belly. Worth the drive from Pasadena I've tried their Chicharito Roll, they're Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, they're pork fried rice and as a creature of habit, we always order all three and have enough to bring back home. The portions are perfect for me who enjoys to repeat delicious flavors.
