City Barbeque is a restaurant chain that has locations in about a dozen states. The restaurant…read moreoffers lunch, dinner, and catering. Dining in, takeout, and delivery are available. I do not recall being a previous customer at this chain, but my husband chose this particular location for lunch. The menu listed chicken, St. Louis ribs, beef brisket, turkey breast, sausages, salads, sandwiches, sides, desserts, and non-alcoholic drinks. We got chicken, ribs, potato salad, corn pudding, and Texas toast. The serving size was pretty large--enough for two people. The flavors were pretty good.

Dinner's on me." Best call I made all day. The food was outstanding, but the experience is what sets this place apart. From the moment we walked in, the staff -- especially Mama at the register -- brought an energy and warmth that made you feel completely at home. Everyone was respectful, attentive, and genuinely kind. On Tuesdays, rib bones are $1.98 each -- an incredible value. The sides are à la carte and very reasonably priced. I requested my sauces on the side and tried three different flavors; every single one delivered. I'm particular about my food and never hesitate to send something back if it doesn't meet the mark. This night? Not a single complaint. Rating: 5 out of 5. I will be returning -- without question.

We had a brisket sandwich, two of their burgers, a polish boy, fries, onion rings, and their bbq sundae. Safe to say their food is some of the best BBQ I've ever had the opportunity to try. The seasoning, temperature, and flavor were all on point. These people know what they're doing in the kitchen. The bad: Notice how I said they know what they're doing in the kitchen. In terms of customer service, it was a different story. They make it extremely hard for you to obtain a reservation and they are mostly full when they do decide to open. I had been trying to get a reservation at this place or even order online for weeks now and I could not manage to. I called every time I wanted to at least order some food to go and the phone went to voicemail every single time. Apple Maps has hours posted, as well as google and yelp, however none of them are consistent. They seem to open whenever they please and make the customer feel like they have to hunt for them, like the customer needs their brisket more than they need your money (it is a business, after all.) The ugly; I have managed to sit and eat at this place a total of two times out of an attempted estimated 15. When I picked up food, they said they replaced my mashed potatoes with fries because they did not have mashed potatoes. It was not the end of the night. The second time they were out of their mushroom Swiss burger for some reason. Lastly, their food is NOT cheap at all. One sandwich and fries costs $25-40. Their taste delivers and justifies such an expensive price point however the journey to get the dish you want from them in front of you is a horrible experience.

I continue to suffer residual side effects from dental work I had done at the beginning of August. My taste buds have been severely affected and I don't feel things taste right many times, nor do I get the nuances of spice. I'm hoping this resolves over time, but it has been quite upsetting for the last several months. Unfortunately, both the dentist and the specialist I went to told me that it may take a very long time to resolve, if it resolves completely at all. Now, back to Irie. I arrived precisely at 11 and a very friendly gentleman unlocked the door and ushered me in. Food was ready and prepared in the serving trays. I was getting food for myself and my buddy at work so I ordered a jerk chicken bowl with rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains for him and half-and-half bowl of jerk chicken and curry chicken with rice and peas, cabbage, and macaroni and cheese for me. I also got one of the small rum cake cakes. I think the total was $35 which is fairly reasonable for a hearty lunch for two these days. The interior is clean and unremarkable and they have no seating. It is purely takeout. I didn't get the gentleman's name, but I told him I'd tried every other Jamaican place around and he said I would like like his the best. He was either the manager or the owner, I'm not sure. The food was still nice and warm when we dug in a little while later. Everything seemed tasty to me, considering my aforementioned condition. I did taste the chicken curry, but the jerk chicken I didn't get the flavors of although I did get the heat. My buddy said it was very good. The standard chicken dishes are chopped chicken, but they are also available on the bone at the same price. The mac & cheese was creamy. The rice and peas were well prepared and not some of the lower quality stuff I've had in the past. The cabbage seemed a little on the bland side with just cabbage in the mix, although my buddy liked it so it could've just been my messed up taste buds. I am used to having bits of carrot and thyme in the stewed cabbage from other places, and that is typically the way I make it at home. I also tried one of my buddy's plantains, and it did seem sweet from what I could tell. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to gather much flavor from the rum cake. My buddy said it was good and almost like a butter rum muffin. All in all, it was a hearty meal, and I will definitely go back in the future, hopefully with my ability to taste properly restored at some point.
