After spending the day exploring Sequoia National Park, we were starving and decided to stop at Tony's Taverna on Wheels. It was Thursday evening, and the place was much busier than we expected. There was a pretty long line, and we waited about 20 minutes for our food, but once we took the first bite, we understood why so many people were there. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and made to order. This definitely isn't your typical fast food, it feels like real homemade Greek cooking served from a food truck. Between the four of us, we ordered the Three Rivers Plate, the Smash Burger, and the Falafel Pita Sandwich, and every single meal was a hit. The only thing I wish was different is that the burger didn't come with fries or another side. That said, the burger itself was juicy, full of flavor, and cooked perfectly, so I really can't complain too much. If you're driving out of Sequoia National Park and looking for a great place to eat before heading home, don't skip this spot. It's well worth the wait, and we'd happily stop here again on our next trip. read more

A bit pricey IMO but was one of the better spots we ate at in Three Rivers while visiting the park. The steak sandwich was very tasty with tender steak and good flavor, just wish it came with a touch more for the $20 price tag. Loved the chimichurri, sharpness of the pickled onions and you can never go wrong with using dutch crunch bread for any sandwich. The loaded gyro fries while looked amazing, were slightly underwhelming also for the $20 price tag. It did have solid flavors but barely any gyro meat unfortunately. Basically was a bunch of fries that also could've been crispier too. Luckily was able to go when there wasn't a big ole line so the wait wasn't too bad for food. I'm not 100% certain it was this or what caused it, but after eating our stomachs were a bit messed up for a bit and pretty sure it was eating here (Luckily nothing too crazy lol). For a little town, Three Rivers, there are multiple options to eat after a day at Sequoia or Kings Canyon NP. On our way out the park we decided to stop at Tony's Taverna in Wheel. This is the food truck of Tony's Taverna which is a large restaurant. Nestled on the side of the road with its own parking lot, Tony's Taverna on Wheels is not to be missed for lunch or after a long day of exploring Sequoia National Park. They serve Greek classics like gyros, salads, hummus, and more. They also sell fish and chips, chicken sandwiches, and burgers. Staff is courteous and service is quick. There's a few picnic tables under trees for some shade, and restrooms are also available a few steps away. I had the Three Rivers Plate and it was just what I needed. It's came with a Greek salad (dressing is vinaigrette), homemade hummus, a warm and fluffy pita, and protein (I had lamb gyro but you can get it with chicken). The flavors were on point and portions were just right for the price. My companion had the gyro sandwich and it, too, was delicious. The only thing I'll warn about is that the Greek salad comes with lots of red onion. Not a big deal if you're headed back to your lodging for a quick break and can brush your teeth. :) Lastly, Tony's just opened a brick and mortar restaurant up the road. Their lunch menu seems to be the same/similar but the restaurant's menu is different than the food truck's. read more

I went to order after 8 of my friends had ordered and the woman told that I would have to wait 15 minutes before they would take my order because they were too busy. I explained that I was with the group of 8 and asked if I could just order pita and hummus, no grilled food. The chef came to the window and said that I would have to wait 15 minutes to place any order. At that point, I called the main Tony's Taverna restaurant, about 1 mile away, and placed an order. I wish i was a short drive away from this truck because I would eat there everyday if I was. Tony's has one of the best ribeye salads I've ever had. So tender and salad is fresh crispy and delicious. Delicious Greek food truck/pop-up on the side of the road! I was in town for the weekend on a trip to sequoia national park and we stopped here for dinner one night and it was delicious!! I had a gyro salad with some top notch (crispy on the outside and soft in the middle) fries. Service was friendly, and quick and efficient for cooking in such a small space inside the truck. They've setup a big picnic seating area with lights as well so a great place to come and hang (and play some cornhole while you wait) with family and friends. I grew up in a Greek community. Greek food is among my three most favorite cuisines in the world (at least the many I have tried). I am always skeptical in Central California when trying a new Greek eatery because I am used to the best. My mother was a wonderful, great cook. She learned from several Greek chefs - Louis Philipopolos, John Karabatsos, and Mama Pappas from Tarpon Sprit Florida's famous Pappas Restaurant - all long gone. I believe I am half Greek through osmosis. I reluctantly stopped at Tony's Taverna food truck in Three Rivers CA hoping for but not expecting good Greek food. My wife and I were still gastronomically satisfied from brunch several hours before. I wanted to check this place out, mostly for a meal at a later date. I asked what their most authentic dish was and the nice man told me it was all authentic and the chef was from Greece. As I perused the menu I saw the standard things offered in most local Greek restaurants. With no meanness intended, I call it Greek fast food. Mostly gyros. I was hoping for something more dinner like such as pastitso, arnifassolakia, moussaka, or the like. I have found most gyros to be something called Greek and thrown at people who don't really know what Greek food is supposed to be like. Well.... We've been coming here for a few years now. The food is always excellent. The gyros are to die for. They're very filling, full of meat and tzatziki sauce. Every bite is just a pleasure. It's a food truck with plenty of parking, and an outdoor picnic area that's clean. Bathrooms are pretty good for being like an out house. The service is always done with a smile. Frankly, we didn't expect too much since the lunch wasn't good at all. But once we bit it into the juicy meat, all our apprehensions blew away. I was blown away by how tender the tasty the meat was. The pita wrap, onions, tomato and the sauce served as a perfect accompaniment to complete the perfect gyro. My wife couldn't stop raving about how tasty the hummus was. We went on a summer evening when it was really hot outside, but luckily the sun was down so we were able to sit at a table in the shade. Our party ordered a lot of things and everyone was happy with their meal. We had the beef/lamb gyro, chicken gyro, falafel gyro, mediterranean salad, fish & chips, grilled cheese, chicken tenders, steak sandwich. At the time that we ordered, we were the only ones there. I'm a big gyro fan, but this legitimately might be the best gyro I've ever had. I was most impressed by the perfect meat to sauce ratio, you could tell Tony has got it down to a science. Also, my stomach felt great after, while oftentimes that is not the case after a delicious gyro. Wife got the steak salad and loved it. Pita and hummus also phenomenal. Wanted to believe. Three Rivers needs a good restaurant desperately. Afraid this won't be the one! Alas the beef and chicken was minimally spiced and dry. The "Greek" rice was not what the menu said it was. My dinner was to have been accompanied by Pita bread and charred lemon. It was not offered to any of the 4 dinners we purchased. The water was highly chlorinated - ice tea covered it up slightly. GET AN RO SYSTEM! The veggies were under water cooked. It was quite loud overall and hard to talk with each other at our table. The service workers were great and properly cordial. Hummas was terrible. A friend who ate here previously warned us not to order the Spanakopita- as the phyllo dough was soggy and tough - we avoided it. OVERALL THE QUALITY COULD NOT COMMAND THE PRICE. Hello We drove to the restaurant to find they were closed but according to the website they were open. On our way home we stopped at the Food Truck this was Tuesday Dec the 30th. We mentioned our disappointment about restaurant being closed and was told there was a power outage. We ordered and hate to say it took more than 40 mins. to receive a 1 simple sandwich. We kept on going back to the window and was told order was lost or receipt missing. We were about to leave when order was found. It was a chilly 40 minute plus wait with no heaters for customers who have to wait. We did pay for the sandwich using cash-just saying.
