Let me tell you about my experience with Tonya! I was never a person to be into fitness but 2020 came and I knew I needed to make a change and become healthy so I began kickboxing/cardio for four months and still was not seeing the results I wanted. In April, I began training with Tonya and her personalized workout programs were amazing. By the time I began training with her, the stay-at-order was in place due to COVID & she made customized workout plans for what I had available at home to use. Her meal plan was also very effective! I immediately saw results after only a few weeks of her workout plans and now that I am 4 months into training with her I've never felt more confident! I'm excited for the times gyms open here so I can apply everything I learned from her and bring it to the gym atmosphere. She is the reason I have such an appreciation for fitness now and this is only the beginning of my journey with her. TONYA YOU ARE AMAZING!

    One month Peach Combine progress

This is long overdue but let me tell you about Tonya. I am an injury filled ex dancer who has worked with many trainers over the course of my life. None have ever made me feel as supported as Tonya does. I use exercise to help me manage a mood disorder and she is always understanding that some days I need the extra push and some days I need a break. She never makes me feel like taking a break will stop me from reaching my goals. Recently I did two of her at home challenges. The workouts are easy to follow and customizable to your fitness level. Tonya is always just a short text away if you have a question or need motivation for the day. She understands that confidence is so important regardless of where you are on your fitness journey. If you are looking for a trainer that will challenge you and support you Tonya is your girl.

    Tonya doesn't offer wimpy workouts!

Unfortunately, F45 Sunnyvale feels like a major outlier -- and not in a good way. I'm genuinely surprised this studio is still operating under the F45 name, because the experience here doesn't reflect the same standards I've come to expect. Trainers at this location don't demonstrate exercises live, they just mirror the video playlist from an iPad onto the TV screen and leave it at that. One coach in particular gave off the impression of being completely new to the F45 environment -- they didn't look or carry themselves like a trainer at all, and there was no engagement or technique correction throughout the session. It made the class feel unstructured and even unsafe at times. The equipment and studio upkeep also leave a lot to be desired. The space feels gritty and worn down, lacking the clean, energized environment that most F45s provide. I couldn't help but compare it to F45 Branham Park or F45 Mountain View, which are both far superior in terms of coaching, energy, and maintenance -- and they're priced similarly. If you're thinking of trying F45, do yourself a favor and explore one of the other nearby studios. Sunnyvale's location simply doesn't deliver on the brand promise, and I walked away feeling like I wasted both my time and money.

The way this works is that you start with a Fundamentals course (3 total classes) where you are taught the main lifts. This is all about getting used to the movements and understanding the right form. From there you are allowed to jump right into classes. The schedule is available online. No signups needed, you just show up. The workouts are challenging but doable. Love that the class is structured so you often work with a buddy which lets you get to know other people in the class. The class times are convenient for someone who is working the usual 9 - 5 schedule and there are classes available every day. The workout is posted on Facebook each day so you know what you're getting into before you arrive. Most importantly, the community that they have is really open and welcoming. I haven't worked out in years, so when we just started, we tried many exercises. She always asked for my feedback to ensure I didn't experience any pain. But moving forward, there will hopefully be something in place to protect the attendees from heat related illness in the summer. Other regulars have told me this happens every year during heat waves and have also complained about it. Going forward, don't wait for bad reviews and attendee complaints before something is done. Some folks aren't afraid of going to corporate. ORIGINAL: This is my gym and I spend a lot of time here attending lots of classes, so this makes me really upset to have to change my review, but I don't think anyone will listen otherwise. The AC in the group fitness room has been broken off and on the last two weeks, to finally break completely on Monday. Two weeks ago, I had symptoms of heat stroke from trying to push through one of the classes during this heat and almost went to the hospital. I talked with the front desk about the dangers of heat sickness, especially since most people who attend the classes are elderly. I said that if the AC is not going to be working in that room, we really shouldn't be having class. My thermometer I brought stated the room was 90 degrees, not even counting everyone's body heat. The AC has been broken all this week and nobody knows anything about when this will be repaired. It went from "maybe" being fixed from Tuesday, to Wednesday, and now to "maybe" next week. Meanwhile, the instructors have to be up there in a sometimes 70 person class (of mostly elders) in 90 degrees with no air. Opening all the doors does absolutely nothing. This is a dangerous health hazard. One wall fan isn't going to cut it. We need someone to actually care and have backup generators or at the very least, a tech on site to repair things like this. Meanwhile, front desk is nonchalant and giving us the run around because the AC works perfectly fine everywhere else BUT the group fitness room. I get there's certain things you can't help, but you need to at least have something there as a backup to ensure attendees are safe. I can no longer attend the classes I love due to being susceptible to heat illness. People are in danger of doing cardio in 90 degrees. It just is not acceptable.

I've always been a pretty athletic person, and I have worked out regularly on my own. I booked personal training sessions because I specifically wanted someone to watch me while doing workouts, improve form, and make sure I'm lifting a safe weight. I did a consultation and everything seemed to check out - Benny is incredibly fit and so I figured if someone knows good form and lifting properly, it's him. He's also a really nice and sweet guy. That being said, I really do believe it's the job of a personal trainer to know when someone's form is ready for a certain lift, to know which exercises are safe, which amounts of weights are safe, and to advise a beginner on when to stop. On the second personal training session, as a 120-pound woman, Benny gave me 272 pounds to lift -- on my second, ever training session! Since that session I have consulted 2 medical practitioners and 4 other folks who lift regularly; all 6 have said it's extremely irresponsible and negligent to give someone *that* much weight on a second lifting session (there's no way their form can allow for proper lifting of 2x their body weight! And a trainer's first call to duty is safety) and that this workout plan was barely short of pure recklessness. Benny had me lifting more than two times my body weight on a deadlift. For context, if you're a 200 pounds man, that means lifting 400+ pounds. As you can imagine, my back completely went out (I heard and felt some sort of sound), and was in incredible immediate pain -- right after the injury, I couldn't bend over without immense pain. Had the pain gone away in a week or so, I wouldn't be here writing this review. Unfortunately, it's been over a month and that pain has not fully gone away -- 6 weeks and $500+ in medical bills later. Most likely I will need to have an MRI to see if there's any kind of disc issue. These 2 sessions alone will likely result in over $1000 in medical bills, if I go ahead and do the MRI. I wrote the bulk of this review at 1 am in the morning in bed, because the tingling in my right leg has actively prevented me from falling asleep. My experience involved 3 days of intense pain, 1 week of extremely limited movement, and a month of continued lingering pain and tingling in my right leg down to my feet. Even a month after the injury, I cannot lift anything substantial without the pain returning. Woke up on Christmas morning with a backache. I can't in good conscious recommend this gym. I regret coming to this gym so, so, so much. You can always get another job, another car -- pretty much anything. But you can't get another back. Giving a complete beginner 272 pounds to deadlift on a 2nd session seems to fall short of reckless. If this gym employs someone that gives a workout like that on a 2nd session, I think it needs to re-consider it's standards. Back issues are no joke, and I'd give anything to have to live pain-free again.
