Guilty Pleasure 101: Mexican food! We all, wait let me clarify this, MOST of us have our splendid intoxicated nights and have no place to go to kill a craving at 3 am. Tony fail me not! It's tradition when drinking in large amounts to hit up Tony's to end a night. Though alcohol seems to make everything taste and look better my real test was how are you sober? Oh my am I picky with my mexican food and Sober or Having a good time Tony's never fails with delivering great taste and great prices. I 24-7/365 Lesbian but can't miss out and some friendly banter with the boys behind the counter and my do they take some friendly banter, which always makes for great fun instead of being grumpy even if they don't want to be at work, it never shows. Oh, what can I say about Tony's Burrito Mex? Well, other than that I'm here at least once a week post 1am, if not more often. This is easily one of the best late-night Mexican spots in the city. It's so good that my husband often picks up regular weekday dinner from Tony's as well. You know how some late-night spots are only "delicious" to you after a few drinks on the weekend? Not Tony's! It is a solid choice any time and day of the week. It's consistent and much tastier than many of the copycats around the city. The happy employees, the blarin' Mexican radio station, and of course- every single thing on the menu. You simply cannot go wrong. Perfectly decent Mexican standards, but nothing special. On the plus side, you may save a bit of money since there's no table service, but on the other hand you pay for chips and salsa...so it all works out to be about even. I've generally enjoyed the food I've ordered, and the pico de gallo is far above average, but I can't say much for the vegetarian burrito, as it wasn't particularly flavorful or substantial. If you're craving Mexican food and are in the area, then I'd definitely check it out...but then again it's the only Mexican place in the area, so there you go. read more

My wife used to live right down the street from this place. She used to rave how great it was and I used to not even think about it. One night after a long day of drinking, we went there and I realized how wrong I was. Whoa. It's awesome. Best late night tacos I have had in Chicago. Fair prices too. Oh, Tony's! How I love thee!!! I will admit, I've probably eaten here more than 20 times, and except for one time, I always get the same thing: Vegetarian burrito. No cheese. No sour cream. PURE DELICIOUS. Grilled onions, green peppers, lettuce, tomato, refried beans and a side of rice...yessss please!! The staff is always SUPER friendly and the place is usually pretty clean, especially for being as busy as they always are. My ONE and only complaint: Who taught these guys how to wrap a burrito? This place is awesome. Very good and cheap mexican food and a friendly staff as well. plus FAST service. Great for when super hungry and/or super drunk. Went here after a concert at the Beat Kitchen and I was extremely hungry. Ordered A Steak and Chicken taco with cilantro and onions (the tacos are huge) and a Chimichanga. I stopped here on cinco de mayo to get the obligatory mexican food. I got one of the combos ( one taco, one tostada, and a tamale) and everything was so delicious! All the meat was so tender and juicy and their hot sauce is some of the most amazing sauce i've tasted. I love how authentic everything was and how quickly our food came out. This tiny place is fantastic. I had a super craving for a chimichanga, and this place was on my way home. I ordered my chicken chimichanga with no beans inside and it was perfect. Crispy, huge, filed with juicy shredded chicken, cheese and tomatoes. It was topped with crema and at least a quarter cup of freshly made guac. Beans and rice came on the side. A burrito place called Tony's? BELIEVE IT! Out by where I live in Roscoe, the competition for drunken eating consists mainly of burritoes. Within walking distance I have Burrito House 2, Taco Burrito King (I think that's what it's called, the neon lights are always missing letters, it's on Western near Addison), and Tony's Burrito Mex. TBM is the place that gets my business. They're fast, cheap, and greasy. I mean, this place INVENTED greasy. Twice I've been with friends whose paper bags have ripped apart on the way back to my apt. Laughing ensued. Moral of the story is a.) eat your burrito as you walk or b.) ask for plastic. The best news is that this place even tastes good sober! You'll get what you pay for, so the quality is not THAT great, but it'll satisfy your desire for not-so-$hitty Mexican food should that desire bubble towards the surface. read more

If you are a customer of Burritos as Big as Your Head you should be shot. This is your chance for redemption! The menu is huge but I simply cannot tear myself away from the steak tacos. When I lived in Roscoe Village this was the go-to drunk Mexican food place. I would always get a burrito of some sort and shove it into my mount in a drunken haze. From what I can recall, it was always good and lessened the hang-over the next morning. The outside kinda looks shady but the people who work in Tony's are nice. I LOVE TONY'S BURRITO MEX. While this is a drunk destination for most, I love coming here whenever I'm craving Mexican food. I always get the Steak Fajita Burrito which is gigantic. I never skip the guac because it's absolutely necessary. My boyfriend also loves this place and always gets the chicken tacos. I love the chicken tacos here because the meat is soft and is pulled chicken. Horchada is super yummy too - I like that they don't put a lot of ice in it because it means more horchada! We had one steak burrito and one chicken taco and it came to $8.50. Tom Tom liked the flaky tortillas they serve. I loved the music. They played every song from Zumba class. Check your food before you leave! .. I ordered the steak burrito to go. I asked them to add extra meat and was charged but they did not add it to the burrito. They also left all of the other fixings as well. I found the service mediocre though the food is tasty enough. I've been to a LOT of Mexican places in the city, and this is by far my favorite place to go hands down. I started coming here because I work near by, and now I can't stop! The people who work there are incredibly nice, the food is out of this world good, and they have amazing daily specials you can't refuse. Today, the guy who normally is my cashier made a point to learn and remember my name, it was such a kind gesture! Sometimes they take your order, turn around and immediately make your food, and then you finish paying! The customer service is beyond amazing and it just makes my day to see these people. This is and always has been convenience food for me. I work about three store fronts away and have subsequently eaten a lot more of Tony's Burrito Mex than I would have under any other circumstances. Thusly I don't have the drunken relationship that I assume a lot of the higher raters might. It's certainly not bad food, but with the abundance of Mexican to be found in this city, you're bound to find something better. It's not anything I would go out of my way for. I generally go with something simple, a few chicken tacos and nachos with guacamole. Not bad, but it never sits that well. Recently I tried one of their breakfast scrambles and it was probably the best thing I've ever had there. So there ya go. Take it or leave it. read more
