We have been on the hunt for good, authentic, Mexican food in our vicinity and thanks to Yelp, we were able to find Tony's Burrito. Since Burrito is in the name, we had to get burritos. We ordered a large steak fajita burrito, a chicken burrito, an order of beef nachos and agua Fresca (cantaloupe). Everything was delicious! My husband wasn't a fan of the fajita burritos because he felt the veggies overpowered the rest of it. I thought it was fine. We both agreed that the nachos were the best. Only wished it had a bit more cheese. The agua Fresca was refreshing, sweet, and you could tell it was made with fresh fruit. All this food for less than $30! These guys are the best. Not only great Mexican food, but the service is A+++. I'm a local and eat here at least once a week and every time I am impressed. Conveniently located by Fellger Park, we definitely ate a substantial amount of Tony's when our kids were smaller and we would clock hours at Fellger Park to separate our kids from their screens. It's a serious bang for your buck. Most everything on the menu is kinda great. Caveat warning! So, there is a guy who works here who is really grumpy. That could be charming, but he's kind of mean. He often is taking orders too, for some reason. He probably needs to be put in the back of the house. (I believe that's how restaurant people say "work in the kitchen". ). So, yep, it's a mixed bag here, for sure, but I do love their foo. So this is an official update. The food is pretty good and the prices are crazy good. Glad to have you around, Tony's. read more

They are not shy on their meat and it's very flavorful!! You can not got wrong with anything steak! For sure a must is the steak quesadilla! The flour tortillas with cheese and steak is the perfect snack! You must dip it in the green and red sauce for extra goodness! Steak fajita burrito is juicy with flavor. Tony's has basically become our Begyle before or after spot, and with all due disrespect, I was skeptical about it after surveying the clientele. But it's actually a decent spot. Even though they use those dreaded, dry-ass white corn tortillas, I still enjoy their tacos. Tortillas are merely a vehicle for getting meat into your mouth, but anyone who knows anything knows yellow corn tortillas are superior. I wish they'd up their game on that front, but yo, clearly it's working for them. They offer the usual suspects of meats, and haven't been disappointed by any of them I've tried. I am partial to the steak here though. I wanted to come back and try the namesake burrito before reviewing. They offer a small and large, so I opted for the large burrito dinner. I sure af hope they misheard me say "large" because I was let down with the size. This sh*t looked sad, like a Taco Bell "quesarito", it was that small. It must be a reflexive thing that they're used to all these health-conscious north side whites that order small everything. And if that actually was a large they gave me, then the small must be the micro-penis of burritos. Anyhow, the redeeming factor was the flavor. I could easily see myself craving their burrito again. I really enjoy the red and green salsas, and their rice. Tried some of the gfs sope, and it was also very tasty. I can only speak strictly about the chorizo tacos here. The chorizo tacos here are amazing!! That said, the team at Tony's is stingy about giving you enough chorizo in said tacos. Buried beneath a hearth of cheese and sour cream, I wish Tony's would give you, say, 25% more chorizo in each shell. Then, we would be in business. Paired with the strong beans and rice in the taco dinner platter on a Monday, $6.75 for two tacos, the beans and rice, and a soda is an excellent deal. Décor at Tony's is nothing special, but there is much more seating than I was expecting. Our group of ten on Monday spread across three booths and we were all set, but sticking to four adults or less is the smarter play. Surprisingly good....I say this as it's somewhat nondescript on the exterior and as it's open late, I guess I assumed it was more for those who had been partying...vs having been delayed at the airport for hours. In any event, we couldn't find anything open upon returning from the airport and didn't want to go to a sit down spot since it was late and we were just looking for take out. I initially thought...eh...burritos at night...bad idea. However, I admit, this was a good burrito. We had a chicken burrito meal so it had rice and beans on the side. I only had half, but it was quite tasty and surprisingly not greasy at all. The burrito was a manageable size, with well cooked chicken and the right amount of other add-ins (lettuce, etc). Beans were good and the rice was well cooked and not clumpy like some late night rice options. So, I would say this spot is worth a visit at any time - not just when it's late! read more

Not bad, not bad; really a 3.5 but since these places are like a dime a dozen in Chicago, it seems just "A-OK" to me. Their guacamole came highly recommended, but I found it bland and a little slimy. It definitely did not taste fresh, as in made from scratch right after I ordered. However, I have to praise the massive portion. There was too much guacamole and not enough chips. I would happily pay 50 cents less for 25% less product in this case. I was dining in and couldn't take the extra to go. Oh well. I also like that the chicken tacos here are pulled meat and not chopped little bits. Hooray for clearly identifiable meats. The tacos (chicken and steak) tasted pretty good. What is it with Mexican joints that have a self-serve soda machine but charge for refills? To TBM's credit, they let you have one refill for free and then charge $0.50 for the next one. A decent option if you're in the neighborhood, but definitely not a destination for either tacos or guacamole. Go to Rogers Park or Uptown. read more

I ordered two chicken tacos with side of rice (no beans) and a can of Coke for $7 and change. No waitress service which was fine with me. Food was decent and my order was ready quickly. You simply want onions and cilantro along with your protein, that's it. Start with steak and chicken. For my first time at Tony's, I thought it was a decent taqueria style mom-and-pop joint. The seating inside is pretty small, but fine. You order at the counter and they call out orders. It was pretty quiet when we were there - although they were getting quite a few carry out orders. The food was fine. I liked my taco. It was crispy and the cheese was flavorful. I think overall the beans are kind of bland. Being that was one of the main flavor ingredients for a vegetarian taco, that is probably the basis of the food being good, but not great. The enchilada I had was also so-so. The tortilla was kind of tough and the red sauce was a bit off. If I had to try this place again, I would definitely try the burrito next time. read more

Well i had one of my Taco cravings again and spotted this place. I stopped for lunch just because i wanted a Taco. When i walked in, the two girls behind the counter were so deep in conversation about their "Baby Daddies" that i was ignored for about 30 seconds. This has always been one of my favorites. But they really blew me away when we recently had an issue with our catering falling through for a party. They made 200 tacos, chips and guac, as well as quesadillas--in under an hour! They saved our party and the guests absolutely loved it. I will always be thankful for Tony and the crew! read more

Tony's Burrito Mex can best be described as the go to place after a night of drinking. I had the opportunity to check out Tony's when a friend dragged me here for a late night snack after a night of drinking. Walking into Tony's brought me back to my college days of everyone packing into the nearest and cheapest restaurant for a late night snack. Tony's size is better suited for dining-out. There are only two or three tables in the restaurant and a few bar stools to accommodate customers that want to dine-in. The overall energy of Tony's was great! Everyone from the customers to the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The staff are definitely patient because they are used to dealing with intoxicated customers that take forever to order. The food itself is super cheap and very low quality. I unfortunately visited here when I was sober so I could taste how bad the food was. The chicken in the burrito was terribly seasoned which made it taste very bland. I personally was starving so I finished everything but I wouldn't try this restaurant again unless I'm starving or have had a few too many drinks. read more

But I have no prob having TBH my Mexican food HQ. So, to get into the meat of things: chimichanga - Outside, lightly fried to perfection. Innards: Delicious Rice- good, not overdone by any means, simple tomato-based sauce Beans- basic refrieds, I feel like it could use just a little something. What, I don't know yet. If I figure it out, I'll update the review. Burrito- linger-fickin' gud. Horchata- yum! If i'd had more dishes, I'd list 'em here.
