Even though the border is less than 45 minutes away, driving cross-state seemed pretty daunting so I pretty much gave up my search and filled the hole in my heart with other icy treats more readily available in NoVa such as bing soo or halo halo. One unsuspecting day, I attended the Fairfax Fall Festival and was pleased to see the logo of a little bird taunting me to try some Taiwanese shaved ice. Could it be?! YES SIR! I rushed over to the stand, leaving my sister, her baby, and my little brothers behind in my dust to get some sweet, cold icy refreshment in my belly. $5 got me a small bowl of freshly shaved ice topped with condensed milk, fresh fruit and homemade lemon jelly. My little brothers eventually caught up with me to ask me to purchase them some bubble tea as well. The result? Refreshingly good! But I could not help but feel a little bit cheated since at Bob's Noodle you can get a small mountain of shaved ice to feed six people for the same price and my shaved ice bowl was barely enough to satisfy my hunger craving. However, they totally saved me a trip to Maryland so maybe the price was worth it.
