Shrip 46. Shrimp Egg Foo Young
    Lisa L.

This spot is conveniently located on Woodward Ave near the sports arenas. A colleague and I decided to try their lunch specials this afternoon. The food is decent as far as a neighborhood spot goes. The gravy is a little salty with the egg foo young patties. Our order was ready in 10 minutes and came with condiments and fortune cookies.

Left: General Tso tofu. Right: shrimp lo mein. Both would definitely order again. 5/15/20

Just came here for the first time today bc our favorite hole in the wall Chinese food spot is closed now due to COVID. Not many places offer General Tso tofu but this one does... We were so pleased!! Portions are hefty. The shrimp egg roll was massive. They're doing a great job with social distancing, and gave me hand sanitizer after I signed my carry out receipt. We'll definitely be ordering here again.

This place hasn't stopped operation since COVID began, but their operation could use some work. We called ahead and placed an order for pick up. The worker said that it would be 20 mins, so we arrived 25 mins later (to give some extra time). When we arrived, it was packed and there were people waiting outside (there isn't much standing room inside and people weren't socially distancing themselves inside). When we finally got up to the cash register, they asked us what we ordered and were yelling at us to yell our order to them through the protective plastic they have up everywhere. Basically, there's no point in calling ahead because we had to wait for our food and you pretty much place your order when you arrive. Not very organized. The time it took from placing the order to receiving it, took about 1 hour (35 mins of that was at the establishment). As for the food, it was delicious! My crab ragoons were cold when I got them, but I was so hungry that I didn't care. The general tsos was a great portion and tasted great! I might try this place again during lunch time when it may not be as busy.

This item is chicken egg foo young. The food was hot and very filling. The location was close by location. The staff was friendly and finally the cost was super reasonable.

You can't park on Woodward, so you risk tearing up your car driving through the alley and significantly deep potholes holes to park and pick up your order. It's in the new center area, so I was really DISAPPOINTED. I stopped eating Chinese food a long time ago because of the lack of service and connections to the communities they serve. My mother wanted shrimp fried rice, so I thought I would take a chance. Don't EAT here u less you don't have a choice.

We've sat at the bar a few times, but honestly, it's a great experience either way. As a vegan, I really appreciate the variety of options. The fried tofu has an excellent texture and is served with perfectly fluffy rice. I usually go for the vegetable spring rolls-crispy and paired with a fantastic dipping sauce-and the sweet and sour tofu, which is always a standout. My husband typically orders the sesame chicken and is always pleased. Service is consistently quick and enjoyable. While prices are a bit on the higher side (around $20+ per entrée), the quality, flavor, and convenience, especially before a game, make it well worth it. If you're up for a short walk and want a delicious pregame meal, this is a great spot to check out!

I got the Chinese spare ribs which were tender and had a nice taste, but were on the dry side for me. There wasn't enough sauce. The French fries were good with the special dipping sauce it came with. The service was nice. I do think it's a bit overpriced for the portions you get, especially for the dumplings. Overall a good vibes place to go for date nights or with a group of friends though.

Now, that might still start a war if you have to share, but they are all for me. And despite how much I love them, even I can't eat that many at once. Which means enough leftover for the next day. They also have Coke products. I wish they had Dr. Pepper but at least it's not a Pepsi-house. I also like their packaging, they use the old school take-out cartons for the fried rice, a recyclable box for other things, and the rangoons come in a wax bag. So I don't have to feel like a jerk having to throw away a ton of styrofoam containers. I really like their pork fried rice. The chicken low mein is good, lots of nice pieces of chicken but almost no veggies and sometimes the noodles are a little overcooked. But it's all very consistent and reliable which is important. Easy offering and delivery via GrubHub, UberEats, etc.

Hubby and I laughed at how many times we zipped past the restaurant without noticing it. My husband and I both ordered the Major Tom Khatsu, which has a coconut chicken broth base. The chicken katsu pieces were the perfect level of crispy without being heavily breaded. There was also a nice little kick to the dish, which made it so, so yummy. Our friends got the Shoyu ramen with pork belly, and the Corned Beef ramen. The Shoyu dish seemed to be more enjoyable. Though we stuck with water, cans of Faygo pop seemed to be the drink offerings - other than alcoholic beverages. Areas for improvement include the waiting. Johnny Noodle King is a small place, with a main dining area and then what seems to be a bar area attached. We initially waited by the door for our table along with another small group (we were a party of four). We were then asked to go to the bar area to wait so that it would clear the door, but found it interesting how we were asked to move but not the other group. Also, we were standing away from the doormat we were not obstructing anyone's movements. The wait was long, and we asked if we could order food to the bar area (as opposed to waiting for a table). We were told 'no', yet there was a table full of patrons who were eating. There was no notification system, so our friend had to keep going to the front to see if our table was ready. Don't get me wrong; 'hooray' to Johnny Noodle King for having such great business volume. However, they need a way to manage it so that people will not be put off. Once we were seated, we did have good service from our waitstaff, and the food was very good. My husband and I plan to return to explore more of the menu. Hopefully, we can pick a time of day when waiting won't be such a big issue.
