Setting is quiet, clean, filled with live plants & smells of lemongrass - very relaxing. They have nice touches (bottled water, arm/shoulder massage) and always try to help customers find the color combos they want (although they already have tons). I have also seen them try to do right by customers by correcting chipped paint/smears that occurred after they have left the salon. The core team has been working there for years and the clientele are also very dedicated - many older adults, men, etc - who seemingly come in because they love the quality nail/skin clean up and care too. Moving in to the neighborhood from Los Angeles area, I thought this nail place is only serving some basic treatments such as regular mani pedi and regular gel. They claim that they only serve some natural treatments. So there are no dip, powder, Gel X, etc. all the staff including the owner were very friendly. The ambiance felt very soothing and relaxing. First of all this shop in is Montclair which is part of Oakland, not Piedmont, but growing up a certain type of folks always would try to detach this area. Anyhow, I should have known better, but I had an interview the next day and my regular shop was closed. This is a basic shop and they probably spend way too much money on rent which causes them to overcharge. If you are claustrophobic don't go here. If you want dip powder they don't offer. The staff was nice enough, but again this area hasn't changed much since growing up in Oakland. I actually felt uncomfortable here, not by the staff but other patrons, lets just say they didn't quite look like me. My second time here and I was a walk in and fortunately Wendy who took care of me the first time was available for a pedicure. I have some issues with my feet and she expertly took care of them. She had to take extra time and care and did so effortlessly. She also gave me a lot of good information about the best times to come in as she is also a gel technician. Top of the top! I loved my Deluxe Pedi ($65) with that 20-minute massage. The massage felt like it lasted well beyond 20 minutes. Amy provided an excellent level of service for my pedicure on every frontier, and Cindy was right there alongside her to pamper my hands. Both lovely ladies offered great conversation and were so sweet. Cindy fell in love with my sunglasses, and we became instantaneous compadres. DISAPPOINTING and RUDE customer service from the manager. I have been going to this spot for a little over a year and loved it until today. I called around 2:30 to ask if they had time for a gel mani and pedi, writing this review at 4:45ish so 2+hrs for what ended up only being a pedicure. Mind you they told me they had time and when I walked in they were super busy and didn't even start on me until 3pm. I got there a little after 2:30. I thought I lucked out getting my two favorite people! The dude with the rose tattoo on his arm who does pedis and the guy Tony who does manis, they both rock. While Tony started my massage the owner told him to stop working on me and give the woman next to me her manicure instead. Mind you she had just come in, while I had been waiting 30min already. Apparently she was in a hurry bc she had to pick up her son. This is where my problem is, I JUST had a newborn. EVERYONE in the shop knew bc I had been coming in there my entire pregnancy literally up until a few days before I delivered. I was in a rush too, but for some reason the woman next to me was considered more important than me. I intentionally timed this outing in between feedings. Looking around I realized I was the only woman of color in there as a patron at the time. I of course can't say for sure this was the factor but I can't help but notice these things when they happen especially as a BIPOC living in Montclair. My feelings are incredibly hurt, I place no blame on the staff. It was not their fault at all. BUT the manager is incredibly rude for this. No consideration for myself as a patron at all. This was the first thing I had done for myself after having a very traumatic labor and delivery of my beautiful girl. I was very much looking forward to feeling normal again doing something that was apart of my normal routine. Before the guy working on my pedicure was the done the manager came over and told him to switch with her so he could work on someone else. I told her I DO NOT WANT HER WORKING ON ME. So first she makes me wait longer and then passes me up again so he can work on someone else. She's worked on me before and she is not nearly as good and the guy working on me. Just more salt in the wound. Add even more salt, NO ONE came to restart my manicure until 4pm. I of course told them I had to leave so they just took off the old gel color instead. If I had stayed I would have been there at least 3hrs for a gel mani and regular pedicure. RIDICULOUS!! I was charged for the pedicure(no problem) and a little more salt: $12 for the gel take off. I paid it and tipped well bc I'm not going to take it out on the staff. I told Tony this is the last time I would be coming there. I was humiliated and silently crying(hormones!) and so upset. The guys brought me tissues and I appreciated it. This is incredibly unacceptable and I truly don't understand how the owner could have thought that was okay. I just don't get it. I'm sure they don't care bc they are a busy shop and some of the employees do a really good job. I refuse to give the owner any more of my money after this. I'm upset I have to find a new favorite location after this but there are plenty of other options out there. Again my feelings are hurt and as a loyal patron I expected to be treated just as any other would, but I was dismissed and made to feel less than. That really sucks. read more

I call ahead and make an appointment, then when I show up I get the second degree as if they don't believe I have one. I often go with a friend who's white (I am not white), and they always start her first and I have to wait for thirty minutes for someone else to free up. Took my kid for a manicure pedicure. Hers turned out amazing and honestly is better than the other place we go. However they were slammed so even though we had called ahead it took forever. Easily half an hour soaking. As a result we had to run out to make another appt and my manicure was ruined clipping kiddo into her car seat. So next time I will plan for at a least 1.5-2 hours there for a pair of mani/pedis, and I will get gel manicure to save my hands. Eh I came here on Friday to get my nails done and I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed with their lack of listening. Upon arriving, I called ahead of time and made it clear that I did not want to get any massages while I'm there. Yes, I'm a rare breed that does not like to get massages - It's just a personal preference honestly. At any rate, I get there for my mani pedi and after they do my pedicure the person doing my nails proceeds to massage my legs. I told her that I did not want a massage and it felt like she was going harder after that. I asked her again and she just ignored me. She does my manicure. Same thing. She rolls up my sleeve and massages me. I told her please, I do not wish to have any massages then she said I go soft and continues even though, again, I couldn't wait to get out of there. Then she proceeds to massage my neck so I repeated myself like a broken record and said please, I beg you, I don't feel comfortable then finally stopped. At this point, everyone and their mom (literally) is staring at me like I'm the monster! Ugh. It was super uncomfortable. According to their Yelp page, It looks like a lot of people love their massages here so if you like them, I would say go here but if you don't, definitely go somewhere else. I'm so disappointed. Pedicure came out great. Manicure was awful and chipped when I got back to my car. Anyway, it's one star for me. I made an appointment for 4 pedicures this morning - it was very easy to make an appointment over the phone. Two adults and two kids. We arrived and they were ready for us. One patron was not wearing her mask. I'm vaccinated but the kids are not, so it did make me uncomfortable. Our pedicures were just totally rushed. No focus on cuticles or getting the nails to look even. It's been since before Covid that I've had a pedicure, so I was hoping for a little TLC. The kids got polish on their toes, but did not get a massage (that part was expected...until we later saw the price!). Kids were charged $31 each, the adults were charged $33. This felt like highway robbery - the Basic Pedicure is just $14, which is exactly what the kids received (no massage, no nail cutting, etc). The woman at the register insisted that we never clarified which pedicure we wanted so they assumed we wanted the $33 pedicure so she charged us for the Classic Pedicure, which was a lot more expensive. By the way, both girls just turned 11 and they charge full price for any kid over the age of 10. That's a good thing to note when confirming an appointment. The worst part of all of this is that despite staying in our chairs and talking for an hour after our pedicures, the polish on the kids is already smudged and messed up. What a waste of money and I feel taken advantage of by this nail salon. read more

I went in here today for a pedicure and had a great experience. I didn't exactly have a reservation but I had called ahead to make sure they could take me. I got the sea salt rub add-on, which was wonderful. They had a large selection of colors and nice massage chairs. The music, the smell of the sea salt rub and lotion, and the general atmosphere were all wonderful, and it looked like the other customers were enjoying their experiences too. If you are a person of color avoid this place. If you through other negative reviews, you will see that this is a theme. I had an appointment for a mani/pedi with my Caucasian friend. We arrived on time. They did my pedicure and did both for my friend. I sat in the chair waiting for my manicure to happen for around 30 minutes after my pedicure was done. New clients start walking in and the owner looks at me and says "you come back tomorrow" I reply that I can't come back and that I have been there for 1.5 hours already and had an appointment. 8 other clients in total walk in and the owner continues to tell me I need to leave and that they can't do my nails. All 8 women were white and I am not. There is no reason for someone that has an appointment that was there first to be demanded to leave. The owner tells me they don't have anyone there that does gel manicures I look at the women that came after me and asked who was getting gel and half of them were. The owner continued to yell at me and tell me that I have to come back tomorrow. She was super angry and I did not to anything to provoke this. I felt humiliated and also appalled that the 8 women who walked in after me were willing to look the other way. read more

I went here for a mani pedi before a big trip. I had an appointment. Most everyone else were walk ins. The staff was very personable with return clients (walk ins) but mostly ignored me. While having my treatment, 3 of my cuticles were nicked and bleed. A solution was applied to stop the bleeding. The technician did briefly apologize. But during the buffing process the skin around each nail was rubbed to irritation. The technician quickly put a solution to almost numb the irritation. I felt uncertain about all of this as I don't have the treatment done frequently. I paid and left. Unfortunately, the next day the skin around each nail was red and sore. I applied an over the counter antibiotic and wrapped each nail in a bandage. It's been 4 days and I am still healing. Is this a normal reaction? I don't think so but maybe. read more

Honestly the best pedicure I've had in a really long time maybe ever! The seats are super comfortable and the salon is very clean and relaxing. The ladies that work there are very professional and sweet. When we sat down for a pedicure they started us off with a 10 to 15 minute leg and foot massage, which was part of the standard pedicure! They did a perfect job shaping my nails and painting them. Then they gave us these super nice flip flops to use instead of the paper thin ones I usually get at my local salon. The atmosphere has relaxing spa music and there are lots of paintings and orchids that decorate the place. I booked a gel pedicure and plain manicure- late evening and got super lucky nobody else was there at the time. I asked for a deep clean of my pedicure but I am not sure the pedicurist understood my request. Anyway, even though I didn't get the super deep clean I wanted, the pedicure was still great and the gel came out really good. In total for a Gel-Pedicure & a plain Manicure with out polish (just the clean up) I paid $80.00 + Tip - the manicurist gave me a 10 minute massage after the manicure: the massage: hands to elbow and on my neck/shoulder area. I think this service is sort of forced upon the client and then charged. It's great marketing! But should absolutely be transparent with the client about the cost and the amount of time. This can help people decide if they want one or not. Other than this: the workers work hard, there's laughter and chit chat amongst them. If you are looking for a more serene experience I recommend going there during the week in between 5pm-6pm. read more

She also very carefully applied the color to my toenails. It is funny to me now, but when I walked in to the shop I didn't notice the beauty of the altar on the floor with lit candles, garlic, chocolates, apples, and tea.
