I've been to this place a couple of times in my travels. Mostly because I stopped here because it marked the halfway point of my journey and I wanted BBQ. The service was pretty good. The speed of my order was pretty quick. Also the people working behind the counter were nice. So no complaints about the service. The food however was a different story. The first time I came here I tried the brisket. It was tough and seemed like it hadn't been cooked long enough. The second time I came here I tried the pulled pork. The pulled pork was rather bland, lacking any seasoning or anything. I will admit the ribs here are decent but that's about it for the meats. They do have good bbq sauce.The sides were good, I had potato salad and baked beans both times I came here. I honestly thought that was the best thing on the menu. This place is a run of the mill fast food bbq joint so don't expect nothing too fancy. One great feature about this place is the fact you can buy a bag of ice for 99¢. There we were, driving our way out of the South, lamenting having somehow missed eating BBQ and just in the nick of time, the sign for Tops BBQ appeared! It's actually a pretty decent BBQ place. Not much selection of sauces (just hot and mild). We ordered brisket, pork shoulder and a slab of ribs between four people and were very well fed for only about $20, including a couple of sides. The ribs were the standout, with brisket in second and the pork shoulder well behind in third. The friendly staff was patient and helpful. If you're looking for the best BBQ in Arkansas, this probably isn't your best bet. But if you happen to be on I40 and want a good, solid plate if BBQ, Tops is definitely worth a stop. read more

The staff was really friendly but that is truly the only good thing concerning this particular location. We spent $40 and literally threw most of our food directly to the trash. I would call it bbq. I had a 1/2 slab of ribs and the brisket nachos. About $30. The nachos were full of gristle and you can't taste any tig but the sauce. The ribs were scalding hot. Shame on me for not sitting in the drive thru line, delaying the people behind me, and verifying my order. Stopped for barbecue on our way home to IL from Baton Rouge. Should have taken the time to go off route and eat in Memphis. The man taking our order (Stephen according to my receipt) was impatient and rude. We were the only ones there so not sure what his problem was. He was certainly friendly to the couple that came in after us. We ordered 2 regular brisket plates. There was 3 small pieces of brisket on each of our sandwiches and literally half of that was fat and inedible. The fries were soggy, bbq beans and potato salad were just okay. The cashier wasn't able to give us a receipt since she said the machine was broken.....and used a calculator to ring up our order, $23 later for 2 people, didn't get our money's worth at all! Quality of food: Cold, tasteless, and I have had better microwave dinners! Meat was not smoked, but more of a processed pressed type.....it was tuff and tasted like it had been boiled! beans were bitter and had chicken in them....and the coleslaw was nothing more than just mustard flavored cabbage and onions. Do yourself a favor and get the chopped pork sandwich and a sweet tea. Tops is located super conveniently off of Exit 10 on the interstate, and is a great BBQ stop off for travellers heading through Memphis. The locals (I grew up in Marion) also get their BBQ here. The Tops chopped pork sandwich is solid- it is has that great smokey, juicy pork that you expect from Memphis-area BBQ. They put a standard mayo-smoked cold coleslaw on top. Recommend including a side of beans and a sweet tea. Haven't tried their ribs, but have heard town rumors that the chopped pork is really the best. Tops has a drive through, seating area, and catering business. They also sell party packs, so it is easy to pick up the fixins for a BBQ family dinner at home. read more

Definitely not like other Tops locations. Food was truly mediocre and stingy portions, not particularly clean overall. The employees weren't outright rude, but pretty close. But the worst was what happened with the Men's room. It was dirty with an unflushed toilet and all that implies, truly nasty. I reported it and I kid you not, the employee asked "what's wrong with it?". All I could think to say was "it's dirty" while I wondered what he thought I meant when I told him the bathroom was dirty. His second statement really shocked me, "I guess I'll have to use the women's toilet", no he was not joking, the dirty bathroom was a real inconvenience for him. Working in town decided to have dinner... the sampler looked enticing on the menu board and included 2 ribs, 3 pieces of brisket, and about 1/4 cup of pulled pork. I chose cole slaw and BBQ beans as sides. Ribs were VERY thin and more like jerky... not much flavor. Brisket tasted decent but was very fatty. Pulled pork had NO flavor and was very dry. BBQ beans are not BAKED beans and were kinda sweet. Cole slaw was loaded with sweet pickle relish. I don't believe they actually cook the meats onsite but rather buy them bulk elsewhere. The staff was friendly but not worth the $32 meal. Bottom line... eat elsewhere... McD's would be better. read more

I was heading home to St. Louis from Atlanta and while driving through Memphis decided to stop for some legendary "Memphis style barbecue" and decided to try Tops. I spent $59.33, and I have no problem paying ridiculous prices for GOOD food, but the amount of food I received and the toughness of the meat, in all honesty, were not worth any more than $19.33. SIXTY DOLLARS for one slab of tough ribs, a pound of pork (which I asked if it was pulled pork and told it was, but it wasn't), and ONE slice of brisket...a pint of baked beans and a gallon of tea. I really truly wish I had checked before I left the store, i would have asked for ALL my money back with the exception of the ribs and tea. I say "mistake" because of 3 things: a) the meat lacked flavor (I mean, any flavor); b) the meat was dry (the brisket in particular had the consistency of styrofoam); and c) the meat was very tough--almost like it had been microwaved.
