    Original Corky's On Poplar Ave!
    Corey M.

Well, unfortunately, I'm 2 for 2 this week. Stony River was a bust and now Corky's. Back in the day, this original Corky's was awesome. I had not been back to this location in many years. I hoped it would at least be close to the way they were. Boy was I wrong. I'll start with the good. The service was great! It was very clean and nicely decorated. The food was pretty much terrible. I got a full slab of ribs. I got them half wet half dry. The ribs were so tasteless and tough. I couldn't even eat them. The menu says they were smoked for hours. My guess is they were cooked in an oven. Full slab of ribs also cost $30... not even close to worth it. The true onion loaf that they used to have was really good, now is just a stack of bland onion rings. The coating didn't even have any taste. The baked beans were still pretty good. But the size you get now for $3.99 is what places normally use as a side sauce container. The beans used to come in a nice little ceramic pot. We also got deserts to go. They were ok but definitely not made in-house. I can't express how disappointing this meal was.

Friendly vibe! Solid BBQ. Got what they recommended! Ribs and catfish. Catfish was moist good flavor was even better with the hot sauce on it. The ribs had a great pork flavor and smoked ring. Just the right amount of chew definitely hit the spot. Also took home a homemade banana pudding. It was quite good.

I hadn't been to this Corky's in 25 years (I believe the original location burned down and this was the rebuild), but it was just as delicious as I remembered. The restaurant was quiet, with good music playing, and we were greeted and seated promptly. Our server was friendly and our drink order in immediately. We had an order of the burnt ends dinner, which was tender and delicious served with baked beans and by far the best coleslaw I've ever had. Additionally we had a pulled pork sandwich, and fried pickles. The pickles were better than anything I've had anywhere else. Reasonably priced and a great experience overall.

    1/3 Slab Dinner

Ordered the 1/3 slab rib dinner (half dry rub and half wet rub), onion loaf, Mac & cheese, southern green beans, cheese grits, and iced sweet tea. The 1/3 slab rib was pretty salty. The wet rub tasted better than the dry rub. The butter rolls were complimentary and one of my favorite parts of the meal. Definitely get the onion load because that appetizer was pretty unique and tasted good. The green beans were super salty. The sweet tea was too sweet for me. Service was a little slow but the waitress was nice. Ambiance: Family friendly

Back to Memphis & we had to stop in for dinner. We were meet by James & he got our drinks & order right away. Got hot rolls & food arrived quickly. I had BBQ pork dinner, wife had chicken sandwich, sis-in-law had catfish. All was delicious. Nice vide in the restaurant as you can have a conversation without the music taking over.

Recommend trying their dry rub ribs, toasted dinner roll and white cheddar grits! Great service and allows you to change your sides.

The staff was nice yet they forgot my dessert and I was too far to go back. So pretty bummed about that. Food was tasty yet not a tasty after reheating. The beef brisket was a little over cooked. I've had better Corky's. So This one is going to get 3 stars. Just make sure you can eat. Oh restaurant inside looked awesome and had lots of seating.

We came to Corky's Ribs and BBQ as a pit stop for lunch and we loved it! The brisket queso was outstanding! Two of my favorite things put together so beautifully. The pork, coleslaw, beans, and pecan pie was wonderful! The staff was attentive and ambiance definitely made me feel like I was at a local shop. I loved it!

Fantastic! Had to stop for more Memphis bbq on the way back through town, and not disappointed at Corky's. Love the atmosphere, perfection, 80s music n' all. It was an off hour when we came, so the parking was easy and seating/service was fast. We got pulled pork sandwiches and they were great. Service was super friendly. Would come back all the time if we lived in area.

How many people will a rack of ribs serve?

One hungry man or two average people.

    Open Pit or Smoked?

Smoked forsure. You won't find many open Pits in Memphis. Its usually smoked or charcoal ovens. Texas, central California have the open pit style BBQ.

I live in Durham, NC. How I can get Corky's ribs, either locally or sent to me? Thanks.

This location is a large building with lots of seating options. I had to try Central as it keeps winning awards and is consistently mentioned as the top BBQ place in the Memphis area. Some of their awards were displayed at the entrance and on the walls. Lots of history. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and had the slaw on the side so I could have it (she's not a slaw fan). I had the small order of ribs with 1/2 dry and 1/2 wet with sides of BBQ Beans and Mac n Cheese. I tried the pulled pork and it was tender and delicious. My ribs were pretty good with my favorite part being the wet ribs. The dry part was overcooked and really dry and chewy. This was a bit of a disappointment. The BBQ beans were flavorful but a bit mushy. The Mac n cheese also mushy a bit but tasted better than it looked. I love great BBQ so I like Central BBQ but may have caught them on a bad day. Oh, they were out of a lot of T Shirt options/size I wanted too. Darn. I wanted to buy one. I would return and try the brisket, pulled pork or poultry items next time.

I ordered wings and two dry slabs of ribs. When my family and I finally decided to eat the ribs on Monday, they were disgusting. They had seasoning caked all on them, and they were overly salty. We wiped off the caked-on seasoning and tried to eat around the saltiness. I was praying the 2nd slab was not the same. When I opened them on 5/27 to see, they were the same. I was trying to avoid calling because I just didn't feel like being bothered. But I called. I left a message for the manager to return my call that morning because "he is in the middle of an interview." So I called back that afternoon and was transferred to Ethan. I explained the situation to him. As I was speaking, he kept making the noise un-huh. So, I stopped talking and asked him what it meant aside from it just being rude as hell. He went on to explain that they missed a step and did not rub in the seasoning and shake it off. I don't care. It's an internal quality issue that should be handled with the prep and cook staff. Not me. He asked if I had my receipt and, in a tone that suggested he was doing me a favor, advised me that he would replace the slab. No apologies for the inconvenience or anything.   After my long workday, I went all the way downtown to get the slab replaced. In person, Ethan is just as rude. I asked if he was going to replace both slabs. He could clearly see the quality was trash. He said no and that he would only replace one. Then went on to offer me sides and a slice of cake. No, thank you. I can afford sides and cake just like I did those trash slabs of ribs. Those slabs of ribs cost $62.40 before taxes. With taxes probably being another 5 or 6 dollars. Your mistakes and poor quality should not cost me. He had a young lady bring the replacement slab back out to me. She didn't say thank you or anything. One thing I know is that a white man or woman patronizing your business would not have been treated this way. As a result, moving forward I will spend my Black woman dollars elsewhere on barbeque and smoked chicken wings. Also, I removed you all from my company's approved catering list where we spend a nice amount with you all yearly. Tell Ethan, thanks for helping me see the light and not spend money where I'm not respected and where my customer experience isn't valued.

The atmosphere was casual and welcoming, making it a comfortable spot to grab a bite. I wasn't really a fan of the mac and cheese, as it leaned way too heavily on the processed cheese flavor and ended up overly cheesy in a not-so-great way. The texture and taste reminded me more of melted processed cheese than a rich, homemade mac and cheese. However, the service was delightful and easily made up for some of the disappointment with the sides. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcomed throughout the visit. While not everything hit the mark for me, the great service and tasty fried chicken make Gus's worth trying if you're in the mood for comfort food.
