We have been going to Torchy's for several years, mostly the one in Richardson and Allen. About a year ago we went to the one on 380 in Frisco and ordered the same thing we usually order. All 8 or us agreed that something changed. Every item tasted very different, and not in a good way, from all of other times we ate at Torchy's.. The manager said recipes were all the same. Many of the 8 of us are food people and worked in the industry for years. We knew something was very different. We have a series of guest visiting almost non stop from next week into the holidays. For all of them it is the first time to Texas. Torchy's would normally be a must to add to the list of things to do. Today, because of the last experience, felt we the need to make a recon mission to the Allen location to see if it tasted like the Frisco one or like Allen originally tasted. Unfortunately, it was not like it used to be. Allen was better than Frisco but something changed in a bad way. We deliberately ordered things we knew well. Not one tasted the same. I hope Torchy's undoes what they did, because this would be the start of a downhill slope for them. The service, as always, was excellent. I have not complaints there. read more

Yum! These were some really good fast food tacos while visiting Allen. I had the Fried Avocado and Mr. Orange tacos in bowl form. They were delicious. I could have eaten one more of each. Fresh, crispy chips and all of the sauces were tasty, too. Torchy's is a great option if you need something quick (or not), large menu. Torchy's is one of the top 3 foods I miss the most from Texas. Torchy's will forever have a special place in my heart. Is it a super authentic, Mexican taco? No. Is it one of the best tacos you will have in your life? Yes. Do I constantly crave Torchy's when I'm not in Texas? Yes. Have I gained immense weight from eating Torchy's every Thursday for dinner for two years in my old job? Double yes. There is a not-so-secret, permanent "secret" menu as well as a "taco of the month." I highly recommend taking a look at those options in addition to the amazing permanent menu. My personal favorite taco is the jack of clubs (on the secret menu, also vegetarian-friendly), but almost everyone I know has a different favorite taco so you can't go wrong. Just please don't get the fried avocado if it's your first time here. You can get the tacos with either corn or flour tortilla. You can substitute any of the sauces in the tacos (my favorite is the diablo. Super spicy, but so good that they sell it in a bottle). You can also make tacos "trashy" with melted queso for a small fee. The bestselling taco used to be the Green Chile Pork I believe. The Naughty Santa was the taco of the month in December, and it was...life-changing. I wish they could bring it back permanently. I don't eat cheese (it's crime...I know), but the queso is (supposedly) a must-order for everyone I know. The chips, salsa, and guacamole are pretty average, so queso is the way to go here. I sometimes pick up "Lil' Nookies", which is one of the densest desserts I've had in my life. It's an extremely deep-fried cookie dough ball. They're 229 calories each if that tells you anything. It's definitely worth a try if you love dessert. I absolutely love Torchy's and recommend everyone go there. The one gripe I have about this location is how slow the line moves during peak lunch hours on the weekends on certain occasions. Last time I was here, there was only one relatively new employee working both the to-go and dine-lin line. There were 30+ people in line and very few people actually seated. read more

The parking is 90% reserved for Togo orders and very few handicapped spots which means you had to hunt for parking. After walking inside I suspect most people parked in those spots even though they did not have Togo orders. I tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday, and the food was delicious. I had the potato, egg, and cheese taco and the migas taco. Both were delicious, and I like that I was able to customize them. I also liked having the sauces on the side, so I could mix and match. We stopped by Torchy's for a long overdue visit! As COVID is winding down here, Torchy's encourages patrons to wear masks but it's not mandatory. I tried their taco of the month, the Tokyo Drifter. It was teriyaki glazed pulled pork, fried wonton strips, sweet & sour veggie slaw, sesame Sriracha mayo and cilantro, served with a lime wedge on a flour tortilla. Awesome! I paired that up with an always-good Baja Shrimp Taco, some Hillbilly Queso (with chorizo) and chips, and a side that I think is new since our last visit, Street Corn. The Street Corn wasn't quite like what I've had at other places, but it was still tasty. Spouse had two Trailer Park tacos - one "trashy", one not, and an order of their Green Chile Queso. We finished off our meal with a trio of "Little Nookies" - deep fried chocolate chip cookie dough, topped with powdered sugar. Everything was wonderful, and the service was top notch from their very friendly, dedicated staff. We need to circle back there soon! read more

Whenever I come to Texas, I have to get Torchys. Note: Torchy's tacos aren't really authentic-- more like tex mex. They are super big and stuffed with cheese and meat, I always have to get a fork to eat all the fallen filling! We went at noon on a Wednesday and there was no wait, the place was half full and everyone was SO nice. We got the Trailer park, Shrimp Baja, Beef Fajita, and the Democrat. Order was ready in less than 10 minutes. Trailer Park: 4/5-- sauce was a little too spicy for me. Chicken was pretty good, good flavors and not too dry or chewy Shrimp Baja: 4/5-- also a bit too spicy although the shrimp was delicious Beef Fajita: 4/5-- filled with beef cheese and peppers, this one has a really great strong savory flavor. Point taken off as the beef was kind of stringy and tough. Democrat: 2/5-- was very chewy/ hard to chew. The meat was rubbery and tasteless and they give a huge chunk of avocado which is nice but the ratio of meat to avocado was off in my opinion. read more

First time experience with torchy's today. I was not disappointed. When I first saw the prices of the tacos I thought it was a little much, but we ordered anyway. Four tacos for the two of us totaled around $21. As we sat waiting for our to-go order, someone who had ordered chips and queso had gotten their order and my wife said out loud "that looks really good." An employee I can only assume is the manager of this location says to us "have you ever had the queso?" We told him that we'd never been there before and he then insisted we took an order of the chips and queso for free, gave us two free taco coupons, and had us sign up on their app and put the points from our order on the account. It truly breaks my heart to give my favorite taco place a bad review :( The last few time i have went to Torchy's its just not the same as it used to be. The people are not friendly and when you go to the pickup/ order in counter its very unorganized. The food is always very tasty but no matter how good the food is if you can never get an order right it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. (haha) I cant say i will never be back to Torchy's but i truly hope in the future that they can get it back to the way it was when they first opened. You pay for a better "taco". More expensive than the other, popular Dallas, so called Taco Shops but you get more meat. Full tacos for full stomachs. Crossroads BBQ Brisket Taco $4.25 was better than the competitors. Still a little dry but I would get it again. The smoky beef goodness shined through. Green Chili Pork Taco $3.75 is great! Shred some moist and deliciously spiced pork then pour on som of their tomatillo salsa and you have a fantastic taco. Frozen Marg, no salt was good. Especially when compared to the other shops. The other, dime a dozen, taquerias offer free chips and salsa. Not here. Try the queso. It's very popular. Very friendly up front. Laughed and smiles all the way. Room for 72 inside with booths and tables with another 25ish on the patio. After touring the Dallas areas taco shops who serve up a Tex-Mex soft taco, not to be confused with a more authentic street taco, I must say I'm a little disappointed in what I've tried. Rusty's is a bust with terrible service and dry, boring tacos. Fuzzie's is just slightly behind Torchy's who wins for the first moist pork I've seen. Better than the others and good when you want a fast food taco that's not from the Bell. I'll stick to authentic, street tacos filled with barbacoa, cachete, tripas and adobada. Our "little" city of Allen is really growing up. This is our third big Austin-originated outpost (following Rudy's and Matt's Rancho Martinez), and I think it's a great addition. We had an early dinner on a Sunday evening, and the place was jumping. There were probably 25 people in line in front of me, but it went quickly. My fellow diner and I had eyes bigger than our stomachs, and chose chips and green chile queso along with three tacos each. Note well that these tacos are larger than an authentic Mexican taco (as long as one knows how big those are SUPPOSED to be :) ), and three of them comprise a pretty good face-stuffing. A couple of fountain beverages (including the sadly-probably-short-timed Dublin Dr. Pepper) rounded out the meal. The queso was as good as I remembered it from Torchy's other northern outpost in Dallas. Cilantro and avocado accentuated the delicious cheese, and the chips were clearly store made. But the tacos were the real stars, of course. We each had a Dirty Sanchez (tacos, here, folks - talkin' about tacos), and I had a green chile pork and a Brush Fire to finish it off. The DSs were loaded with scrambled egg and the cool but tangy ranch made a great contrast in flavor. My green chile pork taco was very authentic aside from size, and had tender pork barbacoa and queso fresco. The Barn Burner's diablo sauce had a significant kick but lots of flavor, and the mango pieces provided a brief respite from the heat of the sauce and the jerk chicken filling. . Although I didn't sample them on this visit, my fellow diner had what our server affectionately called an "argument on a plate" as he delivered them: One Democrat and one Republican taco; he reported that they were delicious as well. There's a nice outdoor seating area here as well as a decent amount of indoor seating, but they do a brisk take-out business as well with it's own dedicated door and two parking spaces. Bottom line: They're not crazy authentic, if that's your thing, but they're definitely more Mex than Tex and can be had on corn or flour tortillas, along with any of several sauces. I'm an established Torchy's fan, with my favorite tacos being the baja shrimp, Democrat (shredded beef), and the trailer trashy taco (which is a fried chicken taco, get the extra trashy!). My first visit here was during COVID-19 era, so they were just allowing curbside pickup and delivery at the time. I parked in my spot, made the phone order, and got my order curbside. Unfortunately there was a limited menu which didn't include the Democrat, but I was still able to get my beloved baja shrimp and extra trashy tacos. These tacos are loaded with many flavors and textures. Don't expect an authentic taco here (which I love). Most tacos are made with flour tortillas, and non-traditional ingredients like fried chicken and cheddar cheese are the norm here. I love these tacos too. The baja shrimp taco comes with fried shrimp, slaw, cheese, and a chipotle sauce, while the extra trashy taco comes with fried chicken, green chiles, poblano sauce, and QUESO. Two tacos is probably good enough for a meal, but if you want to go hard, add the third taco. This bold taco restaurant is located in a pretty commercial area of Allen, near a Target, Tom Thumb, and Lowe's. It's among a whole lot of common chains, which I think is weird being that Torchy's is such a qunie spot but nevertheless, I'm happy to have this taco spot near home. My husband and I came here for dinner one night. I ordered the brush fire and the Democrat. The democrat was SO dry and had a very weird flavor to it. I had to douse it in salsa to make it edible. The brush fire was ok but should be named something else. It wasn't spicy at all. It had an ok flavor and wasn't dry like the Democrat. The tacos are VERY greasy. You'll see it on your fingers after you pick the tacos up. Food took about 25 minutes to get after ordering. I thought that was a pretty long time for a taco place but maybe I'm wrong. Overall an ok place I guess. I don't care for dry meat and greasy tacos so we won't be back. read more

As usual for any Torchy's Tacos location this place had a line that could have wrapped the building (because their food is delicious) but the staff is so great and they move the line quick, so don't be discouraged! Yeah, you may wait 15 minutes for even a to-go order but the food is high quality and you will love it. The tacos are large, so I may get two when I go and then I'm full. Queso is delicious for sharing, their chips are seasoned and fantastic, and everything about what they do is spot on and well priced for what you get. read more

Another fab Torchy's location. Since I was alone, I ordered a Trailer Park (Trashy, of course) and a 1/2 order of chips & guacamole. But, who am I kidding. I could eat the full order all by myself, it's that good. The dining room itself was clean and everyone was friendly. My chips & guac arrived almost before I could fill my drink and have a seat. The taco took a little longer, but it was piping hot, so I assume they had to fry fresh chicken (which is fine by me). It's not too far off of 75, so I'll definitely visit this one again. read more
