Amazing Austin original updated in Lakeway fashion. When in Austin, this is one of my cravings. Typically my ritual is a very quick stop on S. 1st before heading home to Victoria. However, as an evacuee from Harvey, I was delighted to see the rather upscale Lakeway version next to the HEB. I expected the typical quick paced hustle of the staff, but not at this one. My two favorite Torchys are the one in Lakeway and the one at 620 and Anderson Mill. The Queso is the best in town, I've tried them all. All of their sides are good, especially the street corn and rice. Guacamole is fresh and just the right spice. Brisket in tacos is smoky and nearly tastes like bacon. Not really into chain restaurants but this place has good food. Can't say anything about eating in because we call ahead and get it to go. I am hooked on the chicken burrito done trashy. Trashy means they put additional toppings on and wow, it is good! Highly recommend. read more

So I've eaten at this location 10 times or so, but today... good grief, no service, had to walk out. Stood at the counter for 10 minutes, phone is ringing the entire time, no one answering the phone, no one coming to the counter... Oh wait, there was one employee who walked out from the back saw me and the group of ladies behind me waiting to order, the employee looks at the cash register, then proceeds to pick up a drink cup, go fill it up with their favorite yummy beverage, look at the cash register again, and then proceed to walk in the back and disappear, with the phone ringing and customers getting no service. The food here is very good. I've tried just about everything on the menu. I especially like the brisket taco and the guacamole taco. Their salads are also quite tasty. The cowboy queso is in my opinion the best in Austin. The nachos are warm and are high quality. read more

They have tasty food, but takes a long time if you order to go. I'd recommend ordering 30 minutes in advance by phone or online. Even when I've ordered ahead of time, it's sometimes not ready, and sometimes you have to keep calling again and again to get an answer...I think it's just because they are very busy. read more

It's Torchy's!! Nothing has changed in a decade no matter where they are. Ok food ok location but not a choice for dining out unless in a hurry. It's now a hangout for Lake Travis High School. In my opinion Torchy's has out lasted its stay. read more

Last night I placed an order to go online. I was waiting for my order, and a guy came out of the kitchen, asked my name and gave me a bag. I felt in the bag and there were tacos, a burrito and chips, so I went home. I got home and it was an order for another John. (I'm Jon). I called and spoke with the mgr, and we went over my order. She re-did my order and I went back. She refunded my money and gave me my new order. I got home, and saw that it was the exact same wrong order I got before. I called again and she apologized and I went back again and finally got my correct order, plus she gave me a couple gift cards. I'm giving 4 stars because the food is good, mistakes happen, and the manager made things right. Luckily, I live close by. Basically, look at the contents on the receipt taped to the bag, because I learned that's what's in the bag. This "Taco" joint is too overpriced for the food. The only thing worth it are the drinks. Young employees can be seen goofing off. Terrible experience. Order taker had the personality of a wet mop. Took no care to repeat or even act like he even cared to understand our order. It was confirmed by the fact that our order came out wrong. Found the manager and she quickly fixed it. I love Torchy's. The food is great, the drinks are great and the price is highly reasonable. However what I don't love it being told I had to sit down at a table for my TO GO food to be given to me. I placed my order online before coming to Torchy's. I arrive and it isn't ready yet, not a big deal. So they give me a number and tell me to sit down. Well first off the place is packed and there's no where to sit. Secondly, all the other pick up food that is ready is at the counter, where it should be. So I just stood by the area for the line (no one in line) waiting because I did not want to walk around looking for a place to sit when I'm not even eating here. After a few minutes the guy at the register told me I had to sit down or my food wouldn't be delivered to me, because they need to see my number hanging. Well here's an idea, tell them to bring it to the cashier area where all the other to go food is. That's how pick up works. You pick it up at the register. I also ordered my food 15-20 minutes in advance and the lady who came in after me ordering to eat here for her food before mine was delivered. read more

This is a great taco house! Creative & unusual combinations. Delicious fajita tacos, guacamole, chips, & queso! Yummy even leftover! The corn tortillas are wonderful!! My only complaint is no drive thru- for our busy kid filled days when we need a fix & don't want to troop my kiddos in. read more

The food is always wonderful and last night they went above and beyond. My family and I ordered dinner to go online. We picked it up, drove home, and started to go through our items. Two tacos in a bowl were missing. I called to ask about it, but didn't have to because they had already figured it out and were actually preparing to call me. The manager (I assume) asked for my address and said he'd be right there with freshly prepared items! He brought them to my doorstep, along with an adjusted receipt, and a couple of Torchy's coupons! It was amazing and left me almost speechless - as in I didn't even get his name and I feel awful about it. I was just so surprised (and tired from a kind of long day).
