Well... my boyfriend and I have been wanting to try this place so... we decided to have us a date night!! You have to order first then they give you a little pager thingy. It was packed. I got the Crossroads and a side of street corn. Well... i have a complaint but I'm also understanding . They were understaffed and it took a good little minute for our food to come out BUT it was HOT! We also got us some margaritas!! And they were delicious. This place is always super packed but I have never had to wait in line! Once you walk in, you'll go straight to the counter to place your order. Once your order is placed, you get one of those devices that has a table number on it, get your drink, and find yourself a table. I've been here twice now and I've had a pretty good experience both times. The tacos are seasoned and they definitely each have their own special kick to them. So far I've had the trailer park taco (yes. I made it trashy), brushfire taco, Democrat, crossroads, and chicken fajita taco. None of them disappointed I also highly recommend the green chili queso and chips! It's so good! It's definitely on my list of places with amazing queso. The atmosphere is more like a cafeteria. Torchy's Imposter!! First of all, let me start by saying I'm a huge Torchy's fan. My brother lives in Texas so I've been to locations in Dallas and in Austin many times so I know what to expect. What I experienced tonight is NOT Torchy's. I arrived and entered the line at 6:25. They only had 1 employee taking orders. I have no idea why. I finally ordered at 6:57. The food took just under 15 minutes so not near as bad as the wait in line. I got my order to-go so when I finally got home to eat, I was starving. I ordered a "grande" beef burrito, a chorizo, egg and cheese breakfast taco (added green chiles for 25 cents extra) and the Hillbilly Queso and chips. The burrito looked like someone had already eaten half of it! The $3 taco appeared to be bigger than the $10 burrito! I started with my burrito. I took 4 big bites tasting nothing but beans before I found a piece of meat. I took the burrito apart and found a total of 3 tiny pieces of the most rubbery meat I've ever seen in my life. I literally stretched it like a rubber band! (See pix for proof). The burrito was inedible. $10 down the drain. Next was the breakfast taco. There was a pool of grease in the bottom of the paper bag as well as inside the foil completely saturating and soaking the taco. I had to wipe down the taco for a minute to soak up s good bit of the grease before I could pick it up. I will say that this taco actually tasted good. The chips and hillbilly queso tasted good but half the bag of chips were chewy and greasy and undercooked. How do you even under cook tortilla chips? They actually hurt my teeth. I'm not one to leave bad reviews but I felt obligated to protect Torchy's good name. I hate to say it because I was over the moon when I found out we were getting a Torchy's but this location... this is an imposter! Save your money! Wait 6 months to a year, maybe they will get their act together. In the meantime, I look forward to visiting my brother for the holidays so I can get my Torchy's fix in Austin. BEST DAMN TACOS in Memphis! After a long wait, Torchy's tacos enters Memphis food scene, instantly becoming the best Tex-Mex restaurant in town. Must Try: Green chile queso- This is by far the best queso you'll ever taste. The flavors are complex with a dash of spicy sauce and a scoop of guacamole in the queso make it a perfection. My only reservation is that It's a little on the salty side. Trailer park- Named after the OG location in Austin, this fried chicken taco is a must have trashy style where you sub out the lettuce for more of that delicious queso. Brushfire- spice warning, in this superbly spiced Jamaican style chicken taco, mango is your only savior to cut the heat. Chicken fajita taco is also damn good. We also tried the Sandia rita and it tasted pretty good. But we almost forgot about it in the middle of all the queso goodness. We went there on the second day of opening around 7pm, there was about 30 minutes wait in line but once we ordered food came in super quick. Wait was totally worth it. When we left at 9pm, line was much shorter. You can also sit at the full service bar for a quicker service. Interiors are beautiful and trendy. This is going to be so hard for some people to read but I owe it to myself and to the people to be honest. We were excited to try the "New" Taco spot. We beat the rush on Taco Tuesday, I ordered the Brushfire and The Democrat. Brushfire: When I saw Jamaican chicken in the description I thought it would be full of flavor like Jamaican wings would taste. Basically it's just chicken, the mango had a fresh flavor but nothing more than that. The Diablo sauce IS HOT, be aware. Not hot and good just HOT like Tabasco sauce. The Democrat: Barbacoa meat and all its toppings. This was a sheer disappointment. NO FLAVOR. Period!!! I felt like I ate nothing, just was chewing with no satisfaction. The service is fast, food is meh!! I've had better tacos from Taco Nganas on Summer Ave., NOW that's "DAMN GOOD" Mexican food made by natives. Hell the Chalupa from Taco Bell tastes better than this place. Granted I have not had everything but I don't need to either. Great food is LOVE at 1st bite. Friday night wit tha Hubbz. He's nu to this establishment. I wanted a burrito so, that's how we ended up here. No complaints about this dining experience. The drinks were delicious, trying to step outta the box, I ordered something with grapefruit. It was yummy n I dont do grapefruit. I even squeezed the grapefruit wedge just for the extra pucker.. Torchy's has the best queso that I've been missing since moving from Memphis! However, the bartender & manager lacks professionalism & respect to ALL customers. As a black woman, I was greeted with disrespect from the time I sat down to eye rolling to constant non- verbal facial expressions & body language while others around was greeted with respect & given better customer service. Bartender gave my friend's entire order to the white couple next to us who didn't order it. However, when we expressed not receiving our order, we were asked to show our receipt for proof of purchase yet you gave the couple next to us mealS without verifying their receipt and without them paying for the orders when they offered. "State laws" were only applied to us (3 black women) whom sat at the bar of age but "state laws" were not being abide by other white customers whom had been sitting at the bar prior to us. When asked, the manager said the bartender was new and didn't know in order to tell them. My thoughts: so you as a manager is not EFFICIENTLY training your staff on "state laws" that could jeopardize your business. When the manager was confronted about her lack of professionalism and disrespect towards us, she then tried to compliment us and apologize in a passive aggressive manner. The best way to start this is: this is Tex-Mex inspired - Not Mexican food. Everyone that compares this to Guadalupana, Emilio's, Summer trucks, Nganas, Las D etc has already started disappointed. It's a little over busy, but that's any new restaurant. Queso: A+ The flavor is really good, the chile chunks are a nice pop of flavor. Chips: B They do the trick. They can carry the dip and do not overpower the flavor. Salsas: Inc I haven't tried them all. But the Diablo and Chipotle ones are very good. Tacos: B+ Different ingredients with a fresh taste. Their own mix of flavors. The shrimp was good, the brisket was great and the weirdly popular Trailer Park was okay. Overall, think they are hitting their groove and still has room to improve. Torchy's is without a doubt an amazing restaurant to try and a wonderful addition to Memphis. They do not sell traditional Mexican fare and they do not pretend to do so, so everyone comparing them to other Memphis restaurants and taco trucks is missing the point. There is a reason Torchy's is so popular in Texas, a place where you can find authentic taco trucks almost everywhere you look. If you want cheap, close-to-authentic tacos, you have plenty of other options. I would know, as I have tried them all (taconganas, el huasteco, Maciel's, etc). What makes Torchy's unique are their flavors, the vibe, the queso and their delicious sauces. Is a completely different experience. I had previously tried Torchy's in Dallas, San Antonio, Denver, and a few other cities, and this one was one of the best. We've been here twice, on opening day and a few days later, and while things did take bit to come out and we missed a few sauces, everything was fantastic. As a newly opened restaurant with new employees and a constant crowd, things won't be perfect right away. We tried the Mr Orange salmon taco, the Bushfire, the Crossroads, the Baja Shrimp, and the Naughty Santa (from the secret menu). Everything was delicious. Special mention to the Crossroads because the meat was fantastic. I also love me some Diablo sauce, and the queso is (as usual) to die for. Perhaps the chips could use a little less salt. The drinks are decently priced and very good too. Parking outside the store can be a drag so plan accordingly, but otherwise the location is not bad and there other nice stores to visit on the strip. It was a pleasure eating here! The food is off the charts. The queso was incredible. I should stop by here and buy this by the gallon when I'm in the area. The tacos were great as well. Even saying they were "great as well" feels like an injustice. I met Matthew, the gentleman who runs this location. He was really fun to talk with. I could tell he wants his employees to be as personable and friendly as he is. But...back to the food. They're seriously rocking it! From the meat lovers out there to vegetarians. I'm so happy Torchy's Tacos has finally made it to Memphis!!! This is one of my favorite taco places in Texas, so it's good to see the expansion. I went on opening day, so the place was packed! Line out the door! But the service was still great and people were happy to be there. Only took about 5-10 min to get my food once ordered though. You can order at the counter for sit down or to-go. Or you can sit at the bar and order there. Plenty of indoor seating and plenty of seats at the bar where they serve drinks and have several TVs. There also are a few outdoor seats. All tacos are good, but I like the Migas (breakfast taco), Truck Yard, and the Chicken Fajita. Also get the green chili queso - a little spicy but delish! Also, if you get to-go, they label the tacos for you with a sticker which just elevated the to go game when I purchased tacos for multiple people. Big parking lot - but they share it with some other bars/restaurants so it could get hard to park at night. But there is a side street nearby. read more

My colleague begged me to go to Torchy's, it's a Tex Mex Americanized taco/Mexican joint....ok, drag me in. I'm from San Diego with authentic Mexican cuisine, so I'm spoiled. Menu has typical Tex Mex items from green Chile queso & chips (tasty, good chips), street corn, burrito, something called an Airstream salad with greens, peppadew peppers, pistachios, mint, cotija chipotle sauce - this tasted funky, mint and chipotle does not go together-blah. Various gringo tacos from fried chicken, chicken fajitas, jalapeño sausage, smoked beef brisket, jerk chicken and a few more Mexican flavors from carnitas, barbacoa. I also had the blackened salmon taco, which lacked seasoning even though it had a corn relish and avocado sauce (just put guacamole on it!), the corn tortilla was dry/overcooked and fell apart after one bite. I would love to give this place 5 stars..but I am bias and nothing can compare to true Mexican food near the border. However, I will say for the south this is a pretty good place. I had the Democrat Barbacoa taco which was delicious and I would totally get it again. As well as the salmon taco, but I was not really a fan, the salmon was a little too salty and fishy for my taste. The street corn was great and so was the green Chile queso. I like the outdoor seating and the service is great. We will definitely come back again when I'm craving food closer to home. read more

The food arrives fast and the service is good. However, the meat in their tacos to me is always over cooked, dry, and flavorless. I found a piece of mystery meat in my vegetarian elote (corn). i let them know and asked how we could prevent this from happening in the future (i.e., if i let them know I'm vegetarian, can i count on them to be more careful?). Their response was simply that they have a fast flow in the kitchen and they can't avoid this from happening again in the future. While they mark certain items as vegetarian or even vegan, they cannot actually make that guarantee. Yikes. read more

As a Texan, I was stoked when torchys made its way to Memphis. But I gotta say, this location is spotty. Kinda always feels generally understaffed. Lackluster customer service. Just meh. Food wise. Ran into two consistent issues: Tortillas sometimes come out hard/stale around the edges Queso is always cold. Every time. I'm not sure if they have a warming issue or what. But we asked about it several times and the answer we were given was "they don't have a microwave or way of heating it up." Managers did give us complimentary queso coupons... which was cool.... but we used them to get more cold queso..... so..... yeah. Not looking for handouts. Just want hot queso. Makes me sad. We love torchys and will keep coming, but we've pretty much given up on the queso, which sucks cause that's kinda their thing. As a Texan, I was so hyped about torchys coming here.
