    Steak fajita tacos
    Tara H.

I've been here numerous times since my last review and felt I needed to change my review. It must have been the taco I got the first time, because every other taco has been really good. Not nearly as messy as the fajita tacos. My favorites have been the Brushire and the republican. The mango and Jamaican jerk flavors go so well together in the Brushfire and their brisket with BBQ in the republican is very good. Another I enjoyed was the Baja grilled shrimp. The queso is still awesome. I want to try another dip, but I know I would crave that queso later. No change on service. We get our food in a timely manner and everyone we have dealt with has been nice. I still like the way the place looks. It's unique and fun. No updated pictures because I always forget to take them because the food looks too good when it arrives.

We had an awesome time at Torchys! As a big group it was perfect in accommodating everyone through ordering individually at the counter. We queso was delicious and they offered something that everyone would enjoy. As a non-meat eater, I tried both veggie options and liked both. The fried avocado being the favorite and a reorder when I return in the future! Recommend!!!

I ordered the Crossroad taco and the pull pork was quite good but once I bit. Into the middle of the taco it was all fat which I took off and enjoyed the rest of the taco now however the Hillbilly quest was nice and spicy

Lots of admissions on the front end here: 1) this review is biased. 1a) I hold a Gold Card- I bought $250 in gifts cards during December (to be used by me and The Scientist as we go most Sundays- so we get free queso until the end of 2024. 1b) I am not a fan of the menu reboot. 1c) I'm hoping Memphis is a test market for the menu thing. 2) this is NOT an authentic taco place: go to Guadalupana or a taco truck on Winchester or Summer for that delicious noise. 3) this is not any way biased by the atrocious parking situation created by a) Liquor Store (which I don't think is that good) or b) Henhouse (which I imagine to be like a clubhouse for Karens to discuss the practical and surgical applications Botox, or frien-emeies to debate advances in vapidity). Ok. With that out of the way, I really, really like Torchy's. I loved the secret menu. I was an Ace of Spades, Green Chili Pork Missionary Style, Matador kind of guy. Those are gone. Muerte. Eighty-sixed. Grumble. So for the past couple of weeks, I've careened around the inserted Tacos of the Month that now comprise the revamped menu. The Scientist got her usual order: Tipsy Chick and Crossroads. As usual, the justified themselves as her standard order, with the curve ball that the sauces now come on them rather than on the side. I don't know if this is good or bad. So, rapid fire for my trio: Hogfather: barbeque sauce is too sweet but meat perfectly cooked, textures contrasted to be complimentary, good 3/5; Baja Fish: spiced really well, fish over breaded and slightly over friend, marginally good 2.5/5, Cougar: like the Hogfather but sans sugariness, pleasant crunch from the crispy bits of friend poblano, 4/5. All in all, neck and neck with El Mero. I'm partial to El Mero because it's mom and pop, authentic meets Southern soul. Torchy's is, oddly, independent minded Austin meets profit driven corporate. The staff at Torchy's is, as it has to be said, some of the best in the fast/casual industry. You order queso, that bowl will hit your table within 47 seconds of you sitting down. Seriously. If there's a problem, yo, they'll solve it. Top tip: know what you're ordering before you make it to the front of the line. If you've never been before, you'll make it to the front, get shook, then you're going to take 5 minutes reading through the menu while everyone in line behind you gets angry. You'll ask questions, the person at the counter will calmly answer them and treat you like you're not frustrating everyone else because they're great like that. But still.

One of my favorite lunch spots. The food is always delicious. I highly recommend getting a bowl via the app or website, since you won't see it on the menu. I do have a few issues though. The first being my food is never ready at my scheduled pickup time, and with a quick lunch break from work that can be a problem. My other issue is the constant inconsistency on their app and website. Every time I go to order a bowl, the options have changed. I don't have access to order the same thing I did previously. For example, I love barbacoa (one of their taco meats) but there's a 50/50 shot it's available for bowls. Sometimes it's listed, sometimes it isn't. As a frequent bowl orderer, it can be frustrating to not get my favorites.

Went here for a new lunch idea with my mom and we were happily pleased! It was great! The atmosphere was fresh and young, the service was super fast! The employees were nice, and helpful! The parking lot was NOT crowded! The brushfire bowl was great, if you don't like hot I wouldn't get jerk chicken or avocado sauce! Overall it was a great experience I would recommend anyone!

I've been eating at Torchy's since I lived in Dallas and I never miss the opportunity to eat at one if it's near me. The food is consistently great and the service is consistently friendly and fast. This isn't your normal taco shop, this is a damn good taco shop with options for everyone and fresh and funky tacos to tantalize your tastebuds. Don't skip out on the queso because it will change your life. I've eaten with multiple newbies here and I've heard "This is the best queso I've ever had" more times than I can count. My go-to is the Crossroads but I haven't had a taco yet that I didn't like. Plus it's great that you can switch everything up from corn tortilla, flour tortilla, or in a bowl! Sit at the bar and enjoy a delicious cocktail or draft beer and watch sports on the large TVs or grab a table inside or outside on the patio and enjoy a quiet meal because everyone is silently devouring their tacos. It can get a little loud, but you probably won't notice because you'll be enjoying your food so much. Don't skip Torchy's! I'll see you there!

I generally avoid dairy. I had googled and it said they had a vegan taco but they didn't have it on the menu. The cashier was new and didn't have a lot of guidance on what could be made without dairy. I got the trailer park without the sauce and cheese. It was still pretty good. My husband got the grande burrito with chicken and it was not good. We also got the trio dip app. Guac was great, got the tomatillo salsa and it was amazing! The cheese dip was really rich and chunky. It was ok but very different from anything else I've had. Service was great.

I was a bit disappointed in this place. I was expecting Mexican fast food, but it strayed too far from authentic Mexican food for me. All of the meat was well seasoned; I tried the grilled chicken and the smoked beef brisket. However, for the size and the quality of the tacos, I do not think they should be $6 apiece. I can find authentic Mexican tacos for a far better price. The service was also less than satisfactory. I sat at the bar and the bartender was short with me and unwilling to give recommendations - she just said "whatever you like." I did like their green chile queso! If you want to grab margaritas and a quick snack, this could be a fun spot. Otherwise, I would go elsewhere for food.

I wish I had a lot of pictures to show but every time I go I'm always super focused on eating and drinking that I forget lol! I am in love with the Hillbilly Queso WITHOUT the Diablo sauce. That Diablo sauce is CRAZY HOT to me. I also really enjoy the Touchy's Tini margarita. It's literally my two favorite cocktails (Margarita and Dirty Martini) wrapped in one! The service is always great when I go. I usually sit at the bar and do queso and margaritas for happy hour. The only thing I don't like at this location is the parking but I make it work every time.

Holy moly...... back again and the Torchy's experience was DAMN GOOD as always. Sarah is no longer with the company but the bartender Zoe was very nice and personable and was very knowledgeable about the drinks and the food menu. Wow... glad that I was able to find this great restaurant and make it a part of my weekly meals.

I had decided if they couldn't be bothered to come by the time I finished the chips I was leaving. Magically a waitress finally shows up w/3 chips to spare. Placed the order for water and dinner at the same time. Dinner came out quickly but looking pitiful w/barely a full tablespoon of guac, tomatoes or sour cream. Cheap bastards! It was great, everything was authentic - but then Molly retired and the new owners moved the location to the hip and popular Overton Square. Reciently the restaurant has changed hands and the new owners have turned it back into a real Mexican eatery. Now the menu is awesome, and about half of it caters to vegetarian appetites. And not wheatgrass, and Tofu... this is real Mexican food. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of pork chicken and beef. There are very large menu. And now, everything you look at it is delicious. I have been coming here since they opened and just now realized, I wanna try everything on this new menu. We had the beef chili rellinos with mole and refried beans, which I don't know how they do it but the refried beans have no pork and taste like they're loaded with bacon. She opted for a a la cart selection of black bean soup, roasted poblano pepper and cheese tamale, mushroom, cheese and spinach enchilida served with guac and pico. And as soon as our server left with our order, we immediately felt like we should have ordered this or that instead until our food arrived. TBO. Everything was totally delicious. I guess it means we just have to come back more often and try everything else on the menu. My server was amazing even though we did not order alcohol... Since it was our first time trying a few things on the menu, we had several questions, and the staff took the time to explain everything without making us feel rushed. They gave recommendations, explained the toppings and flavors, and helped make ordering easy. I decided to try the specialty hot dogs, and honestly, they were amazing. They were packed with flavor and loaded with fresh toppings that worked perfectly together. The combination of creamy avocado, fresh vegetables, sauces, and perfectly cooked meat created a unique flavor that was both fresh and filling. The stars aligned on this most recent visit and so I got to try them. This location in Germantown is a little easy to miss signage-wise, but Google Maps got me here easily. The parking lot is small but paved nicely and easy to navigate. The inside of the restaurant does feel like a deli, with a counter to order at and a small but reasonable amount of seating. The restaurant's accolades are plastered on walls and the glass windows around the food prep area and it's fun to read the history and writing about this place. There is one semi-essay seemingly from the owner, directed at patrons, grousing about customers having certain expectations about the food they're served (Tex-Mex versus authentic Mexican, for example). The owner is adamant that authentic Mexican is served here, and I have no reason to doubt that at all nor expect anything different, but I must admit the tone was rather off-putting. I can see how it would be frustrating to have your food, your work, be misunderstood or misinterpreted, but it kind of felt like I was being lectured when I hadn't done anything, lol. At any rate, I walked up to the counter to order. Service was adequately if not /especially/ friendly. I placed an order for a sandwich (Tortugas de pollo) as well as a limonada (fresh-squeezed limeade) to go. I waited at one of the tables and my order was ready for me in a reasonable amount of time. My favorite thing was the limonada! It had closer to an Icee texture than a juice or limeade texture but I really liked it. Pleasantly sweet and sour and very refreshing. The sandwich was good if not mind-blowing. Maybe my expectations were just a little too high. One problem was that it got pretty soggy very, very fast - it took me less than 10 minutes to get back to my aunt's house and unbox my food and in that time, the bottom piece of bread on my sandwich was close to falling apart. Some of the chicken was also a little too strong-tasting for me; it's hard to describe but I imagine we've all had chicken that's a little too obviously...well, chicken, lol. Not super mild tasting meat, I guess is what I'm trying to say. That aside, I enjoyed the texture of the cheese and the heat of the peppers. The top slice of bread was also nice and crusty. The sandwich came served with a handful of chips less generous than it appears in the photo and some green salsa. The chips were a little over-fried for me but decent enough, and the subtly spicy salsa went well with them. I think the greatest sticking point for me is the price vs. the quantity of food vs. the relative enjoyment. My meal was a solid bit over $30. I prooooobably could've split the sandwich with someone else and been okay, but given the relatively paltry amount of chips, I was also okay eating it as a solo diner. I think if the price had been a little lower, or the portion of chips a little bigger, or the enjoyment of the sandwich a little greater - any one of those things - this would probably round up to a 4. But ultimately the sticker shock and somewhat condescending vibes lead to a lower rating from me. Idk, I would definitely say this restaurant is worth a try and I'm glad I experienced it and would recommend trying it to others who enjoy this type of Mexican food. That said, I'm also not completely confident I'd return on another visit to Memphis. Well, okay, I would definitely for the limonada. That thing was awesome. ;)

We always get some variation of steak because the flavor of their steak is soooo good! They make their chips in house and they are super airy and tasty with just the right amount of salt. Their salsa is some of the best in town, not too spicy with the perfect amount of cilantro. It's not just hot tomatoes, it's SUPER Flavorful! We love this place!

Also, I had to swap my chair because it was very wobbly. All the chairs seemed old and about to fall apart. My husband and oldest son ordered tacos, but did not know it was only one they were each ordering and our server didn't ask how many or confirm they only wanted one. It didn't come with a side either. So their Lunch was small. We did order queso so they are a good bit of chips and dip. Thankfully it was a good queso. I on the other hand got the chicken fajita, and while it was not a traditional fajita I'm used to, it was still pretty good. I did however about have a heat stroke eating the pepper that I assumed was a jalapeño. Turns out it's a trick and it's really a serrano pepper which was extremely hot. Don't eat the pepper unless you can seriously take the heat! We'll be back to try some other options and read the menu a little more carefully.
