Tacos are really good though not authentic Mexican. I go there when I feel queso and one taco and a drink for $20

We did a quick stopover at this Torchys in New Braunfells during a road trip. It's a nice, open space with patio and indoor seating. We got our usual order of queso/chips, fried avocado and trailer park tacos. And a chicken tender kids combo meal. Everything was good but something was off about the flavor, maybe the sauce or something else. I can't quite put my finger on it but the taste was not quite the same as the OG Sounth Congress location in Austin (which has always been consistent). read more

I love this place. Our server was extremely friendly and took amazing care of us. She took our order when she saw us struggling at the kiosk. She made our drinks, chatted with us the perfect amount, brought us our food, checked on us after, and wished us a safe drive home when we left. Her service was perfect! The place is clean, the music was fun, the chandeliers are almost steam punk and their light bulbs have a great color to them. It's just a cool place to hang bb I had a Torchy's-Tini, which is a nice Mexican Martini and I enjoyed it. I got two tacos - a Baja shrimp taco and Ronin. The shrimp taco is very popular. I got the grilled version but I'm guessing that the fried version is more popular. The sauce seemed to want to accompany fried shrimp. And I'll bet that's really good. I wouldn't get the grilled version again. But what I totally fell in love with was the Ronin taco. It was their taco of the month. Torchy's Tacos was the place I tried today, and believe me it was really good. The place has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Inside you're greeted by a friendly staff. The restaurant has a full service bar with a large selection of drinks. As far as what I order, I had the Republican and the Trailer Park. The first one was a good tender brisket with great flavor the other one was a fried chicken and it was one of the best chicken tacos I've had in a long time. My first experience with Torchys was not that good but it was at an Astros game so they had some limitations and being at a ballgame it was definitely overpriced. So we decided to try them again. This experience was better, reasonably priced, and we enjoyed it. We both had the bowls and they were good. I had fried chicken on mine and the misses had the grilled . Good flavor and very filling. The service seemed ok but what I did not like was that you ordered from a kiosk. Since this was my first time at a sit down Torchy's the kiosk could not answer my questions. Someone then saw me struggling and came to assist. Oh well, I prefer the human interaction instead of ordering from a machine. All in all it was good. We would probably come back......... read more

We actively searched for a Torchy's, which is Phil's first stop whenever he's in town, based on "Somebody Feed Phil" (S6E3). Though he went to the flagship, which he calls "Tex-Mex, not Mexican-Mexican", the food's the same, including the green chile cheese sauce, for which he said, "if you're coming to Texas, you're gonna need a little queso." We also got the tacos, which he calls "Texas tacos" that let you "feel the Texas". The menu has lots of interesting, food-trucky choices. I liked my unique fried chicken "trailer park" taco, but preferred the green chile pork. My wife got a fake meat "mofaux" taco and a fried avocado one. She thought her tacos lacked flavor, but, like Phil, she dipped them in the queso. The guacamole, margaritas, and food make this restaurant quality with fast food convenience, like self-ordering and soda refills (with this being Texas, they always have Diet Dr. Pepper!), with the prices being somewhere in between. read more

Torchy's really fell off. They should just close down and sell out to Fuego. Completely messed up my order. Really upset me not getting what I paid for. Especially when I have to hear my wife complain cause she got the wrong food. And the tacos don't taste as good as they use to. Small compared to Fuego. I live on the other side of town. So....I don't live in Texas anymore but I used to live in Austin. Torchy's was a hot spot for my and my bestie since 2006. I hadn't been in forever and loved that they were popping up all over the place. This place is fun on names, fun on flavor, and just an overall cool place to meet up. Inflation has really hit this place since I've been though. At almost $5 a taco, it's not someplace I would go regularly. I mean the tacos and flavors are on point but it will stay a nostalgic memory for me that I will come back for every now and then. We came during a Texas school day around 11am so there was only one other table there. We definitely beat the weekend and week night crowds. Our food came out fast and hot. I will say again...the flavors are on point. Very innovative and creative with good flavors before it was such a popular thing. I missed one of my favorite tacos and couldn't figure out which one it was. I guess they changed it to make it a bit more family friendly. Of course, I didn't know what it was until my friend explained what I was ordering. So....I missed my Dirty Sanchez. That was my favorite back in the day. The classics were good: Egg was cooked well and they don't skimp on it. So it is a full taco but still too pricey for me for an everyday taco place. I got a Democrat & the barbacoa is really good and not greasy. The avocado, pico, and extras make it even better. Also got a Trailer Park and I really wanted to 'get it trashy' but that added like something around over $1 more! Yea...no thank you for the overcharged add on. We also got the fried avocado taco and green chili pork. The fried avocado was really nice and so was the green chili pork. It was nice and moist, not dry. Overall the food is really pretty good and fun. You will enjoy it and I do recommend the queso also. I wanted some breakfast tacos before heading back home to CA. My friends couldn't think of any spots other than Torchy's, which they said was a fast casual spot with great margaritas. Okay so I've been eating here for about three years and I will say within the last year the food is off and on consistent. When ordering delivery the food hasn't been consistent, and as of today they proved that again. I'm missing the pico to my taco, and the other day I had ingredients on the taco that didn't even make sense. Just tried the Torchy's Tacos in New Braunfels. I'm not a native Texan, so don't have much experience with Torchy's - but I'm a fan now. I tried the chips & queso, the Mr. Orange (salmon, black beans, corn, cojita cheese and avacado with green salsa) and the Crossroads (brisket, grilled onions, jalepeno, Jack cheese and avacado). My husband had the Tipsy Chicky (grilled chicken, spinach, green chiles, corn, bacon bourbon marmalade) and the Republican (grilled jalepeno sausage, pico and cheddar Jack). We loved them all! We finished off with some Li'l Nookies (fried chocolate chip cookie balls) and Scratch Made Churros. They were both good, but our favorite was definitely the cookie balls. Really love the Torchy's Tacos! Fun place, a bit loud, but casual and quick, our visit was a bit crowded but they had plenty of tables and servers were quick to wipe down empty tables. Really liked the Tomatillo salsa, was nice and thick, super flavorful, chips were nice and crunchy - not stale. Baja shrimp tacos were great, they provided a good quantity of shrimps which I appreciated, a nice light batter, and the sauce was great. Their Grande Burrito was supper full and filling, nice assortment of flavors, though wish the ingredients were better spread out, seamed like the top half had cheese and the bottom had pico de gallo, but still really good all the same. They don't have the "local" type soft drinks like some of the first Torchys I've been to, but they have good tea and they're a welcome cumulative site both here and in Orlando Florida where I've been traveling for 2 weeks. We had never been to a Torchy's before. We were in San Marcos for an appointment and decided to use the app to place an order at the New Braunfels location on 306, since we live in Canyon Lake and were heading that way. I have mobile apps for just about every restaurant. Let me review the app first. I had a birthday reward of Queso & chips. Ordering our tacos, drinks and sides was easy and straightforward. We were able to customize the tacos, much like apps such as McDonalds, Whataburger, etc. Where it broke down is that it is not clear what the app can do. For instance, on the Whataburger app, you can choose drive-thru, curbside, pick up inside or dine inside. You can also schedule a time for the pickup. This is where Torchy's app has major shortcomings. Evidently, if you place an order on the app, it is for to-go ONLY. Pick up inside or drive thru. Also, there is no way to schedule a future time to have the order ready. I placed the order while still in San Marcos and the app said it would be ready in 11 minutes. We arrived and went inside. I let them know that I had a mobile order. She went to a holding oven and brought out a large bag with our tacos, queso, chips and rice/beans in smaller bags all crammed together. Went to a table and realized that there was no way to eat our food out of the bags. Plus, the food was barely warm. I asked the cashier about some plates or something to eat off of and she said that she would ask a manager. The manager, Max, came over...I explained our problem with the app and that the order was barely warm. He was very nice and said he would have it redone and brought to us. What thru me is that all the communications from corporate regarding the reward never mentioned that you could redeem it inside the restaurant. I was left with the impression that it was only thru the app. By the way, this restaurant was extremely clean (my wife was impressed)! When the food started coming out, it was piping hot and attractively presented. The chips and queso were outstanding, as was the beans and rice side dish. The carnitas tacos were good, the meat very tender and flavorful. The tomatillo salsa was smokey and delicious. The Baja grilled shrimp tacos, on the other hand, are what I will be dreaming about tonight. Fantastic and I could bathe in the Poblano Sauce! The rice was great as were the refried beans. All in all, a great dining experience (except for the app hiccups) and we will be back ASAP. Again, spotless tables and floors, friendly staff and a manager (Max) who will be rising in the ranks, because he understands customer service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! (As an aside...please explain to me how you can eat these tacos in the car? Very messy, as they should be.) read more

Gave my friend a gift card to this restaurant in Virginia so I had to give this Texas resultant a try. Huge menu but I went with the Trailer Park Trashy tortilla, the Baja Shrimp corn tortilla, Rice & pinto bean combo, one Crossroads, one Steak Fajita tortilla and soft drinks. Oh I also got the Threesome. I liked it all but next time go simple and not get the trashy dish. We all enjoyed the threesome appetizer. A very "meh" experience. We ordered the chicken fajita taco, beef fajita taco, trailer park taco, chips and hillbilly queso,grande burrito, and street corn. None of the shredded cheese on the burrito or tacos was melted, it was actually cold. Which was strange in the burrito because you'd think it would be hot being wrapped up in the burrito but I definitely had some cold bites of cheese and tortilla. The tortillas were just your run of the mill packaged tortillas, not even warm. The street corn tasted very odd and nothing akin to a typical street corn flavor.
