Something lost In translation from Austin to Richardson. Torches is our favorite in Austin. At this Campbell Rd location the queso is runny and the fresh taste we love in Austin just isn't there. I had the same order in Austin in the past week and couldn't recognize the product here in Richardson. I hope that Torchies has better QC at their other locations outside of Austin. read more

Torchys is delicious. I love this location. Food is always great and service is too. I always get the same thing: kids chicken taco with chipotle sauce, grilled on flour with chips and queso on the side l. They have the best queso I have ever had, and that is no exaggeration. It's so flavorful with a little kick. They put their diablo sauce in with with guacamole too, you can add chorizo to it if you want as well (I don't eat pork so idk if it's good). You can also get your tacos "trashy" where they add queso IN the taco!!! It's so good! Their meat is always cooked and seasoned well, never dry or cold. They get really busy around noonish on weekdays and are often quite busy on the weekends, the energy there is super lax. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food this isn't the spot, if you're looking for some hearty Tex Mex you'll LOVE this spot! read more

Great taco chain restaurant! My go-to's are the trashy trailer and Baja shrimp! Their chips and red salsa are also sooo good! We usually sit at the bar at this location because the bartender is so cool! I've recently also tried their breakfast tacos and they're sooo filling! read more

Got email stating they were releasing a new taco of the month called the chili wagon. It was very good. Took a chance and tried on some tomatillo salsa. Probably the best salsa I've ever had. The guy who was working that night was very informative. I was coming from 30 minutes away and he gave me the last possible time I could possibly order to pick up my order before they closed. made it there with 5 minutes before they closed and picked up my order period everything was as it should have been. in addition to those items, also got my usual green chili queso and chips. Just like I remembered. Everything was cooked to perfection. I was thoroughly impressed period if there was a down part, it was the few of tortilla chips that I ran into that were stale but they were only a few. great job to the crew that was working that night period you always want to be cautious when ordering late at night because you never know what you're going to get. Either it's going to be fresh because nobody orders it or it will be dry and stale and soggy because it's been sitting under the heating lamp all day. read more

Additionally, the queso didn't come out with the tacos, I had to ask about it. It's like they really don't care. Food is good. Good location. Nice space inside. The service though....I'm still annoyed at the cashier. First off, he was cold and a bit sassy on the phone when I placed my order. When I got there, no eye contact, no smile, he's just going through the motions. I pay while he's drawing on the counter. I wait for my food. He's so distracted and doesn't want to be at work (it's evident) he doesn't notice my food is ready behind him. It sat there for 5 minutes while I waited. I watched him cash out another lady; same attitude. Tapping and drawing and not paying much attention to the customer. a word to the manager: have your employees be friendlier. I don't want the red carpet rolled out for me when I pick up my food but just simple good manners would be nice. Too many other taco places in dfw to bother coming back. read more

Torchy's is great and a local favorite! The environment is clean, staff is friendly. These tacos aren't average tacos and come with a twist and they are LOADED. There's no other queso like Torchy's! My favorite is the trashy trailer park. The creamy chipotle is so yum for those that like ranch style dips. Definitely recommend this spot! read more

I am a Torchy's taco fan, this specific location? not so much. Nice setup, pleasant staff, tables clean.... then it goes downhill. 31 minutes after placing and paying for our order the meal finally arrives. We excitedly dig in and... our food is cold. my tortilla is hard, it cracked when I attempted to fold my taco into a taco shape. My husband takes his Baja shrimp taco to one of the staff who responds to his statement "this is cold" with "uh, what do you want me to do? I can issue you a refund". My husband's response "what would you want? I want a hot meal!" His taco was quickly replaced, mine was not . We will not return to this location, instead we will go to either of the two closer to home. We frequent the Plano and Allen locations on a regular basis. read more

My favorite has to be the brushfire as the jerk chicken is seasoned really well and it comes with the diablo sauce which is spicy!!! The margaritas here are a little on the high end of $12. I love Torchy's but this location is horribly managed. Today I tried their curbside to go, to pick up my online order and they NEVER ANSWERED THEIR PHONE!!!! There were 5 people sitting next to me and no one got food for over 18 minutes. I have had them completely mess up my order but this was just ridiculous. Finally I went inside to get my order. I asked to speak to the manager and he was extremely dismissive. I'll go to other Torchy's but never this one again. This location is resting on the reputation of the chain. read more

The world does not need another hipster taco establishment. I would forgive the trendy decor and "edgy" taco names, (dirty sanchez), if the tacos were good. Which they aren't. Or cheap, which they also aren't. I had the Democrat (barbocoa) and the Mr. Pink (seared tuna). They are large, so 2 is enough, but expensive! The Democrat had the blandest meat, completely flavorless. Any taste at all came from the salsa verde which was pure fire. There was no layering of meaty goodness with subtle heat. . . Nothing like what I expect in a barbocoa taco. The Mr. Pink was super dry, almost inedible. The guacamole, on the other hand, was some of the best I've ever had: lots of cilantro, a hint of citrus, a bit of smokiness, and sprinkled with Oaxaca cheese. The 2 stars are for the service, which was good, and the guacamole, which was excellent. I don't understand how this place is always packed when there are tons of taco places around. Well I love Torchy but this location is new and as such has some kinks to work out. I had the Republican, and Trailer park and my dining companion had the Democrat and the burshfire. We have had all of those many times but found flaws in all of them. We also had the Elotes corn and it was not quite right. I will be back at this location but I think it needs time to work out the kinks. read more

Ahh. Torchy's Tacos review again. Starting out as a food truck, and now having chains all over Texas and soon Denver, this taco place will hold a special place in my heart. From their secret menu (especially the Matador which is brisket with grilled jalapeños, onions, cheese, avocado, sour cream, and cilantro) to the trashy Trailer Park which is filled with chicken, green chiles, pico de gallo, cheese and queso, I am hooked on this place. Definitely Torchy's is an awesome place to get food, drinks, and just relax with "damn good tacos." I'm not a alcohol person so much, but, their sweet tea will always get me. In addition, their chips and queso/guacamole are probably one of the best I've tasted. I love how the queso just has that "kick" to it. I could probably live off of those chips for days. I am just happy that they have opened one in Richardson, so excited to take advantage of it whenever I'm in this area (which is pretty often). This place definitely gives off a food truck vibe in a store setting. So glad for this place. read more

The inside of this place is pretty big and nicely decorated. I've had the Chicken Fajitas before but wasn't impressed with it. A friend of mine told me because I tried their "plain" tacos and I should get something different ex: The Democratic (his favorite). I went ahead and got out of my comfort zone and got The Democratic and The Republican. The Democratic was okay, the baracoa wasn't really hot and felt hard, but it was a lot of meat so that was good. The Republican was good, then again I like sausage so maybe that was it. The sausage was huge so that was good. I got them both on flour tortillas. All in all, this was my 3rd meal Ive had Torchy's and I wasn't impressed with any of them. Torchy's Tacos is a more "Americanized" taco. When I think of tacos I want some street, greasy, authentic tacos! These seem to have Kraft Cheddar cheese sprinkled on top and Ballpark sausage in it. Something I can easily make at home. I don't consider this "Mexican". I consider it "Tex-Mex". read more

I have to laugh at folks berating this place for being a "hipster" taco joint. As a connoisseur of both "authentic" taqueria tacos and "hipster" tacos, they fulfill completely different niches in the taco ecosystem. Taqueria, or original Mexican, tacos are the original, and must be respected for that alone. They are typically meat + onion + cilantro + corn tortilla with some variation according to the taqueria and specific type of taco (for example, Al pastor pork tacos often add pineapple). They are amazing and a testament to the wonderful flavors and cooking techniques of Mexico. Hipster tacos are typically larger, more experimental, and more expensive per taco. Torchys is the original hipster taco place (or at least, one of the originals) and there are some seriously delicious tacos being made here. My personal favorites are "the crossroads" for meat tacos, which is a combination of tender beef brisket and onions, cilantro, and jalapeño plus a slice of avocado. but for vegetarian tacos, the independent, a fried mushroom taco, and the dirty Sanchez, a breakfast taco topped with a deep fried poblano Chile, are both excellent. Both of these veggie tacos are worth trying even if you aren't a vegetarian. all tacos are highly customizable, along with the usual choice of corn or flour tortillas (pretty much always choose corn). Most of all, I am impressed with the level of deliciousness in every taco I order -- I've never had a taco here that wasn't at least "pretty good". Alas, I'm rambling. A quick note about this location -- it is right by UT Dallas and the surrounding suburbia, but also easily accessible if you're going north on 75. If i had to compare the average service/quality to other torchys, I would say it's a little lower but not enough to knock off a star. If a different location is closer to you, just go to that one -- I haven't seen much of a difference in quality across locations. If you're a skeptic, I suggest stopping by and ordering a variety of different tacos. My go-to would be one independent + one crossroads, no cheese on either, both on corn, but yours may be different because all of the tacos are tasty. read more

Tried Torchy's on Friday 1/3/20 and was very impressed. Ordered a beef fajita taco and it was great. Got back in line and ordered a breakfast taco and it was great as well. Breakfast tacos are served all day long which is a bonus. Long lines(which speaks well to the quality of their food) and good service. Will be back, for sure! read more

I finally discovered that I can eat ONE taco and be full. That special taco is the migas breakfast taco! Oh my word, when it came to my table, it was huge! By the time I finished it, I couldn't eat my chorizo taco but I did anyways. Only because I didn't want to get hungry later lol. I was stuffed yet I stuffed myself more. On to the tacos, the migas is literally everything I want in a taco. Please try it if you haven't! Especially if you like their breakfast tacos, it's a meal changer!!! As for service, we go our food quickly, much faster than the plano location by costco. I'm sure it's due to the amount of customers, which is why it's not as long. The noise level does get loud when it's crowded but just enjoy your tacos and ignore it. If you can't, you're not fully enjoying the food! Also I was wearing my exo shirt, which 1 of the servers complimented me on which made me feel less dorky. Come here for dinner bc lunch can be a wait which is not my thing bc I'm ready to eat by the time I'm inside! Do it for your stomach' s sake! And bring a friend if they haven't been! Came here for lunch on a Saturday with kids. Food was fast and delicious. I had the Chile Pork Tacos and Crossroads Taco. Chile pork was 10/10. Crossroads l would skip next time. The food here is legit. My friend recommended Torchy's for dinner so we decided to give it a try. Looking at their menu, it was certainly not your normal taco and not that cheap either. But, I still wanted to try it because their tacos looked very good. On this night, I decided to try their beef burrito (7.50$), the trailer park taco (3.75$) and the brushfire taco (3.75$). I also ordered chips and salsa (3.50$) while my friend got their green chile queso (5.95$) to see how they were. After 10 mins or so, the food was delivered to our table. Well, the salsa and queso were amazing, the tacos were delicious and the burrito was huge, filling and great. If you are here for the first time, I definitely recommended the trailer park and brushfire taco because they were to me the best ones on the menu. Be worn however, the brushfire will kick your butt because it's hot. Now the food were great but the prices wasn't for me. These tacos were definitively on higher end and I'm not sure if I can make it a regular place for me. But man the food here is good and you should for sure give this place a try. read more

Decent, very decent. I only give it 4 stars because there are so many places in DFW for cheap and flavorful authentic Tacos, but Torchy's has a right to be. I like the mellow hip concept, and self-serving approach. The tacos are creative and tasty. I particularly like Democrat, Republican and their breakfast stake taco. They put a decent amount of meat on the product, so one should get full with a couple of items. We will be back. read more

This place is ridiculously busy. We can in on a Monday afternoon around 1pm and we lucked out, the line was short, but once we ordered, the line had backed up to the door again. Ridiculous! The food is still good. There's a secret menu and I've had almost everything on the whole menu now. The best is probably the crossroads. I didn't like the Republican (sausage taco) or the Mr. Pink (tuna) or Mr. Orange (salmon). Just wasn't that good. The Baja shrimp is great, as well as the green chili pork which is a must try if you're a first timer. Guacamole and chips is a must. Service this time was slow, the ordering took forever, not just waiting in line, and then after ordering, they told us "your food will be out in 15-20 minutes." that was a huge surprise and they were right, it was 15 minutes at least. At least expectations were set properly. They'll settle into a groove and it'll be fine, just some growing pains starting off. It's still the same torchy's, enjoy the bar and the atmosphere. read more

I gained 10 lbs when I saw that a Torchy's was opening 2 miles from my house. Because I will eat here THAT much. Love the queso, trashy trailer park taco, fried avocado, the democrat and the street corn. We sat at the bar, bartenders were very friendly and they have daily specials. The secret menu can be found online and has several great options, they tend to be larger tacos so you may only need one. We will be back, too many times. I need to start working out more for my Torchy's intake, but it is so delicious that it's worth it. read more

I mean Torchy's is the bomb. Duh. The food here is as awesome as it is at any other Torchy's. It's also dangerously close to my house, which... can be a problem. All of the employees I've encountered have all been very friendly and helpful, even if it's super busy in there. I only took off one star because it is always FREEZING in there. Like, always. I've worked in kitchens and I know that it gets hot as hell back there, I really do. I'm sure I used to torture my customers by keeping the AC just above freezing, but it was the only way I wouldn't pass out! But it doesn't seem to matter if we're here in the summer or in the winter- COLD COLD COLD. And it takes a lot for me to get cold. I keep the AC in my house just above penguin habitat level. I've taken to ordering my tacos to go so I don't freeze to death, but I'd like to be able to eat there again! read more

I like Torchy's, but I'm starting to wonder if they are expanding too fast. This restaurant is beautiful. The "enclosed" patio is a nice touch and I like that they open at 7am for breakfast. But the food consistency is... lacking. I picked up tacos for lunch for and colleague; his didn't have the avocado (the democrat) and mine (trailer park) wasn't trashy as ordered. The time before the chicken on the TP was so burned that I threw it out. Sometimes the beef fajitas are stringy and tough while other times they're great. I've been hoping these issues would settle out... but they haven't read more

I love Torchy's but this location specifically isn't great. Every single time we get food to go it is wrong. Everytime! It is so common that we discuss it before we go, sometimes even deciding it isn't worth the hassle. Such a shame that we can't eat it more often because of the poor quality control. read more

OK, I'm going to be "that person". When I moved to Texas, everybody raved about Torchy's. I was excited to try them out, and underwhelmed with the results. To be fair, I probably just don't like some of the more unusual artisan tacos. But the catfish in the "Alabama Shake" taco was overcooked and bland, and the green chile pork tacos were almost entirely bereft of green chile. I had to go back to the counter and ask for more green chile. I was given one comically tiny plastic container full of a microscopic amount. I nicely but stubbornly requested more, and was finally given four more containers, which at that point I considered barely adequate. So, bottom line, I found Torchy's Tacos mediocre and not very flavorful at all. Give me a good old-fashioned gas station taqueria any day. read more

Breakfast this morning was a good experience. I have eaten there before and have felt that a competent job had been done by the staff. I haven't been all that happy with the flour tortillas especially because this is a taco based restaurant. Today was different. Both the coffee and tortillas were of a better quality than before. 2017: Consistent, great tasting food... Although, man....Second time for takeout this month, and service is always SO SLOW. Ok, today I ordered the Crossroads taco and street corn to go. TEN BUCKS for these 2 small items. But I thought I would give it a try, maybe it's worth it. NOPE... not worth it at all! First, it took 22! minutes to get my food, and that was ONLY after asking THREE different employees to ck on it! Then...the taco meat is full of chunks of I don't know what, and couldn't eat it! I rarely write reviews in which I was dissatisfied, just not my style, but while I generally have enjoyed my food at Torchy's, their service lately has left something to be desired. Truly, most of the tacos I have had there have been great with the exception of one Ahi Tuna taco which had been grilled within an inch of it's life and more closely resembled/tasted like chicken by the time it reached my mouth. Their queso on the other hand is freaking good and I don't even like queso, like literally never order it anywhere else. I think it has to do with the ridiculous amount of green chilies in it, which I do love. Now the unfortunate thing about this particular location, can't speak to others, is the poor service I have received the last two times. Literally received 1 of 3 tacos correct the last time I went there and then only got 1 of the 2 reorders correct on the second go around. Often the person delivering the food looked lost and was essentially just wandering around aimlessly attempting to find the correct table. I brought all of this to the attention of our server and told them how while I enjoyed the food I felt that the were putting the cart before the horse and letting the expansion of their brand compromise their company.
